Keep Taxes Away From Your Wealth (Canada)

Jayson Lowe and Henry present a five-part framework to minimize taxes on Canadian wealth: Defer, Define, Design, Divide, Disconnect. They advocate Infinite Banking through dividend-paying whole life insurance with mutual insurers to warehouse money tax-free, then compare a client case showing claimed tax savings versus traditional RRSP approaches.

To keep taxes away from your wealth. Because I promise you, if you are even the least bit effective at accumulating wealth and you are going to find yourself engulfed in taxation.
This isn't about just taxes, nor is it just about whole life insurance. It's about being connected with like minded people who completely understand that your wealth is trapped in someone else's system and being taken away by chunks at a time. Taxes likely going up. What's the general Canadian family burden when it comes to taxes?
Have you ever wondered if you've paid more taxes than you needed to? I'm not talking about doing something illegal, I'm talking about paying more than you had to because you didn't know what you didn't know. Well, I've had that experience.
You're in for a real treat. Henry has spent a lot of time and energy putting together a remarkable agenda here. And so I promise you, you're just in for a real treat. He's truly amazing and I'm privileged to call him a teammate. What I want to ask everybody, do you feel that you're not taxed enough? And my second question for you, do you believe that our government is going to require.
More or less money in the future? You may recall through all of the content that we share, we often talk about everything begins with the way that we think. When you think about what's going on out there, not only in Canada, but in other parts of the world, we have a situation where we're dealing with a government that has maybe forgotten that if you think of the analogy, a parasite host relationship and that if the parasite draws all the blood out of the host, both the parasite and the host perish. And so we're in an environment right now where we're dealing with onerous taxation. And I want you to think about what's happening out there in the world right now. We have this convergence of events. Increased taxation, volatility, rapid the increasing inflation, longevity, loss of benefits and so on. And we want to help you to keep taxes away from your wealth because I promise you, if you are even the least bit effective at accumulating wealth, then you are going to find yourself engulfed in taxation. This all reminds me of a story that R. Nelson Nash shared with me many years ago.
And he said, Jason, I want you to picture for a moment and he talks about this in his book titled becoming your own banker. And he talks about Willie Sutton's law. And Willie Sutton, as you may know, was a famous bank robber. And when he was asked the question, why do you Rob banks. His response was that's where they keep all the money. And so Willie Sutton's law was formulated rightfully so into wherever wealth resides, somebody will try to steal it. And if you just think about this for a moment, if we were to go to a shopping mall together, and I want you to be right next to me here, so you and I are walk into a shopping mall together and we go into the food court, one of the busiest, most crowded sections of the shopping mall. And I pull out a gun and I point that gun right at your head and I say, I want you to empty the contents of your wallet onto this table right now or I'm going to blow your brains out. Anyone who's witnessing that incident would immediately characterize that as theft. And then secondly, demand that I be punished. And rightfully so. But if I have had gotten all of you on the webinar, if I got all of you together an hour before I went into the shopping mall with that person and I talked to you about how we were going to distribute the contents of that person's wallet together, that's democracy in action. And whenever we get to a point like we are getting to.
Where the government believes that there's going to be some form of progressive civil unrest because of confisitory taxation, too much tax, they're going to turn around and grant you another exception to the rule that they create. And so you'll see another tax qualified program or another process that enables you to defer tax. And so with this phenomenon that's going on out there, you've got all these financial entertainers who take it upon themselves to advise people to get as much money as possible into these tax sheltered programs. Believe me, these programs would disappear overnight if there were no willing participants. So I want you to think about that as Henry leads you through an amazing session this evening. Now, Sarblo, myself, Dan, all of our teammates are going to be right here on standby to, to support Henry to answer questions. But what I want you to really be thinking about as you hear Henry speak, how can this be an advantage for me, my family and my business? Because remember.
Wherever wealth resides, somebody's going to try to steal it. But the fact of the matter is your wealth must reside somewhere. And so if you can build a warehouse of wealth inside of an entity that's going to keep taxes away from it, not only the accumulation, but the access.
How much of your wealth do you want to be warehoused there? The better question is how much of your wealth do you not Want warehouse there. Nelson shared this story with me. Among many stories, I was blessed beyond the definition of good fortune to be mentored by Nelson for so many years. And he said, jason, I want you to picture you and I are together in the Sahara Desert and we're in this tent. And inside this tent we have everything we need. All the food, all the water, it's air conditioned, everything is perfect. And then he says, jason, I don't want you to turn around. I just want you to look over your left shoulder.
Don't be startled, but a camel just poked its head in our tent. Now, Jason, if we don't do something in a real hurry to deal with that camel, we're going to end up with the entire camel in our tent.
And that camel is Canada Revenue Agency. Keep the camel out of your tent. With that being said, I want to turn things over to my teammate, an amazing authorized infinite banking practitioner and chartered accountant. You put those two together and you've got a sure fire method of keeping taxes away from your wealth. Henry, welcome to the webinar. I am going to turn it over to you, my friend. Have fun.
Thank you so much, Jason and I just wanted to thank all of you for setting time aside in your busy day today to attend this session. And all of you attending are likely high income earning Canadian citizens, corporate business owners. And I wanted to just set the expectations that all of you in attendance all have different and unique circumstances. It's very difficult to cater to everyone's needs. And I've been a professional helping Canadians like yourself for over 15 years as a CPACA and the rules have always been changing and people are always different. So it's completely unrealistic that within the two hours that we have together today, you'll learn everything there is to learn for keeping taxes away from your wealth. Nor will you want to. What you're going to learn today in the time that we have for this session today will be enough for you to understand that there are opportunities and ways for you to keep taxes away from your wealth. The goal of the session is going to be enough for you to know what the next steps will be. If you choose to decide to work with us throughout this session. And at the end of the session, my teammates and I will be sharing with you ways that you can get in contact with us here at Ascending Financial. I also want to share that I or my teammates will not be going over any individual financial circumstances here. There will be no advice being provided here. I want to respect the use of everyone's time who's attending here today and also make sure that your questions get properly answered. So this session is meant for educational purposes and it's not intended to dive into your personal financial circumstances. I also want to notify you that if you decide to take the ideas and concepts discussed here and implement them yourself, you have been properly notified that you do so at your own risk and you will not hold anyone here at ascending Financial liable. The ideas shared here that I will be sharing with you is not a one trick pony. It involves a real reevaluation of what you are currently doing and the commitment to see the steps through. So now that I've got that out of the way, I just want to say thank you to all of you and I wanted to start with an exercise. I know all of you are a bunch of smart people. You are, and I just wanted to say you are the business owner. Your management team produced these results for you. Now, it's a pretty rudimentary exercise where in 2014-2015 you'll see the revenues as 282.3 and expenses as 280.4 with a profit of 1.9. Since the revenues exceed the expenses now, a decision was made to change the management team. In 2015 to 2016, where revenues were now 20 295.5, expenses 296.4 with a loss of 1. The next year, this management team decreased revenue to 293.5 and.
Increased expenses to 312.5 with a loss of $19.00. The year next, revenues have increased to 313.6 with expenses 332.6 and a loss of $19.00.
Now in 2018 to 2019, revenues went to 332.7 and expenses were 337.8 with a loss of 14.
And now 2019 to 2020, revenues are 334.1 and expenses were 362.9 with a loss of 39.4. So at this point, for five years, this management team has lost more money than they've made. Did the management team do a great job improving your business from a profitability standpoint? I think we'd all agree that that would be a no. Now let's look at the most recent year of 2020 to 2021. Revenues are 316.4 and.
Expenses were 628.9 with a significant loss of 327.7. Well, where is this money coming from to ever when you have all of this debt or loss. Where is this all going to accumulate? It's going to accumulate in the form of debt. So how would you feel about this if this was your business?
I have some really bad news for you. These numbers that I just went through, they are all real. Using 20, 20, 21 as the basis point for you to see. What you see here is not a couple hundred of dollars, a couple thousand of dollars, a couple million of dollars. It's billions of dollars. And just in case you're wondering, when you're looking at that debt number, this is $1.6 trillion. And I have even more bad news for you. Unfortunately, all of us here are the business owners.
We are the ones who are providing the revenues to the system.
But this management spends your money without any approval from you, the business owner. And in any normal business, this would never be allowed to happen. But this management team spends more than they collect from revenues. And even worse, they go into more debt.
You may be wondering, who is this management team? It's the Canadian Liberal government.
Now, how serious is this situation? What I did was I just put together the last six, seven years of financial statements from the government of Canada. These are the audited financial statements. And let's look at it all together. In 2015-2016, when the Trudeau government took over from the Harper government, the Harper government left with a profit of $1.9 billion and a debt of $1 trillion. Just based on looking at the debt and the profit that was made, the amount of money, the amount of time that it would take to pay this back would be 538 years. Now, if we look at one generation, one generation is about 25 to 30 years. So I mean, this is still not great. That's about 18 generations from here. So if we look at this debt at $1 trillion and we look at where the last audited financial statements are at $1.6 trillion, the debt has increased more than 60%. So almost double what it was seven years ago.
As you can see, they've been losing money every single year. And it begs the question, when will that debt be paid off? Who is going to pay for that debt? And I'm sure you guessed it, it's you and your future generations.
So let's do some simple math. I'm using 2020 and 2021 as the example again. In Canada, there are currently 38.7 million residents, and let's estimate 30 million are working adults. The average Canadian salary is $50,000. Taxes on that income will be 10,500 so, by doing some very simple math, that's $315 billion in revenue. And if we look at the revenues that Canada has collected, that is $316.4 billion. So wouldn't you wonder, where will they find the money to continue funding their expenses? Now, taxes apparently fund many valuable services for society that government claims you benefit from. That may be true. There's also quite a lot of spending that's not in your control and does not benefit you. Now, if we look at 2020-2021, for those of you that have forgotten, we were in the midst of a global pandemic with the government locking people and businesses down, people were losing their jobs.
Well, if we look at the amount of expenses, $628.9 billion. In that year, the Prime Minister decided to do spend $8.6 million in a renovation for his lakeside residence. Now, I don't know about you, but I'm sure you know that home prices have skyrocketed so much that the average home in Toronto is about $1 million. Canadians can't even afford a home today. Yet he spent $8.6 million of your money for his lakeside residence. Now, in case you also didn't know, in 2020, there was a very, very big scandal that happened. It was the WE Charity scandal, where he sent $456 million to close family members for event appearances.
Even his NDP coalition partner, Jagmeet Singh, had something to say about this. An MP blasts him for giving $200 million of a loan to a failing Casino Rama operator. Now, you would think that all of your tax money that you are paying, it gets spent in Canada, right? Well, I hate to break it to you, you're wrong. In 2020, the Trudeau government sent $3 million to the World Economic Forum, which is headquartered in Davos, Switzerland. Not only that, he sent 1.576 billion to the United nations, an international organization. Now, if we look at 2014 to 2015 with the profit of 1.9 billion, that is everything here is very close to that $1.9 billion. So he sent the full profit of 2014, 2015, in what I would say misused spending that Canadians did not benefit from. And that's the worst of it, right? Unfortunately not. Could they increase the cost of your borrowing by raising interest rates and putting more pressure on you?
They already did, and they already are with 1.5% as of June 1, 2022. That means you're working more to pay for your home. And there's a projection that Mortgage payments could jump by 45% by 2025-2026 from the bank of Canada. Could they weaken your purchasing power by using the bank of Canada as an ATM to print more money? Absolutely. During that time, the bank of Canada printed five times the amount of money during that lockdown period.
How has that impacted you in your everyday life? Food is becoming unaffordable. As of April 2022, from CPI data from Statistics Canada, fresh fruit is up 10%. Rice is up 7.4%. And as you can see who I am, I like to eat my rice. This time last year, Ontario average gas price was 1.3 a liter. Now it's 210.9 on average. 60% jump from the average last year. And the bank of Canada official says it should be accountable for the failure to check inflation. Now, I'm not sure what that means. What does being accountable for failure to check inflation even mean? Here's just another way to see how the value of your wealth has been eroded by the printing of money. The numbers in what you own didn't go down, its value went down. And another way you can probably look at it is the government has silently taxed your wealth through the back door by devaluing what you have. If the government prioritizes increasing revenue to recover from all of their spending and debt, what is most likely going to happen to the amount of taxes you will actually need to pay in the future? Which direction do you think taxes are going to go? Up? If it's going to go up? Down? If it's going to go down? Sideways? If it's not going to change? We all understand where we are in today's economic environment now with taxes likely going up, what's the general Canadian family burden when it comes to taxes? Well, in 2021, the Fraser Institute released a research report. They do this report every single year and they look at the amount of income. The average Canadian family income is about $100,000. And what they found in that year is 36.4% of the earnings went to taxes. So $36,400 of the $100,000 went to taxes, whereas 35.4% or 35,400 of the income went to basic necessities. What's very alarming is the government now takes more of your income in the form of taxes than you need to spend while you are living with 36.4, if not more, going to the government as payment for services that they provide to their citizens. You're allowed to wonder, is it actually worth it for you. So I want to just share with you. I think it's important for us to identify what the problem is.
Let's first understand what is a system. A regularly interacting or independent group of items forming a unified whole. So what is the income tax system? The income tax refers to a type of tax that governments impose on income generated by businesses and individuals within their jurisdiction. So how is the income tax system in Canada designed? Well, it's based on your residency. A person who is a resident of Canada is subject to income tax on their worldwide income, not just Canadian. And it's based on the amount of days you live in Canada.
It's based on the income you earn, so the activities you do. If it falls into the definition of income, it will be taxed. It's a progressive system, meaning the more income you earn, the more taxes you pay. And the last part that I want you to understand is the government defines these rules. So when it comes to income taxes, it's important to understand that it's a system implemented and designed for the government to collect revenue. The rules that define what the government can collect and how they collect it is outlined in the Income Tax Act. To fully appreciate the extent of how the income tax system affects you, let me share with you a brief history lesson. As quoted from the CRA, Canada joined World War I in 1914 and because of the war, in 1917 the income tax War act was introduced as a temporary measure. Even though the war ended, expenses for the government continues. And in 1948 income tax was no longer considered temporary and the Income War Tax act was replaced with the Income Tax act as a permanent measure. And this is the history that the CRA is so proud of. As you can imagine, citizens did not enjoy paying income taxes and the government had challenges in forcing citizens to pay taxes. And to enhance the income tax system's ability to collect revenues, the government introduced laws and penalties to deduct taxes from the citizens sources of income. So this is how source deductions like income taxes, CPP and EI were introduced into the paychecks you see today. Whether you like it or not, laws have been designed by the government to ensure that their income tax system can collect taxes, which is revenues from you. And here's a quote that I want to share with you. When plunder, otherwise known as taxes, becomes a way of life for a group of men in a society, over the course of time, they create for themselves a legal system that authorizes it and a moral code that codifies it. Government's revenues come from the backs of your efforts. And another way to put it is they've designed a system in which they control to entrap you to take bites from your efforts. That means as a high income earner and or a business owner, based on how the income system is designed, it's designed to make you pay the most income taxes.
Also, because of how the system has been designed, you may not even realize that you are trapped. Just like the inflation income trial, you most likely reintroduce your income back to the income tax system to tax you again and again and again.
And at this point, this is probably how you feel.
And as of right now, I'm sure and I can relate to this and I just want to reassure you, you've made a great decision to be here listening to this. You are at the right place. And the first step is to realize that you've been entrapped by laws to pay income taxes to a system that is controlled by the government. The government has designed these rules to tax you along the way and spend your money without any accountability. So it's fair to say taxes create a drag on your wealth. And I just want to remind you that you must pay your taxes. However, what I want to share with you today is that there are ways to place the tax rules in your favor legally. Despite how cumbersome the rules are, you do have the right as a citizen to legally pay the lowest amount of taxes. However, the government is not going to go out of their way to do it free. The government will audit you when you underpay your taxes, but they will not audit you when you overpay your taxes. I mean, why would they? If they did, it would mean that they would receive less revenues. So the power rests in your hands to take personal action on minimizing or preventing this from happening to you. And I just want to remind you, you do all the work to generate the income. The government depends on you financially for your productivity and efforts to generate revenue in the form of taxes. And when you let the government charge you more than you owe, you are constantly giving them positive reinforcement to misuse your money. Now, if a business you went to provided you poor products or services, would you stand for it? I'm sure you would say no. And again, I want to remind all of you that this is not a one trick pony. This will involve a real evaluation of what you're currently doing and a commitment to see the steps through. So I want to ask all of you, are you willing to commit to improving on anything that you're now doing financially today to keep taxes away from your wealth. I'm just going to say welcome to commitment, enjoy your stay. So let's get this party started. So the first thing that I want us to take a look at is I want to show you something. The five Ds for keeping taxes away from your wealth. This is your Pentagon of defense. So I'm going to dive into the first one which is deferring the taxes. This is where you're using time instead of paying the taxes today, you defer the taxes to be paid in the future.
When used properly, you lessen the impact of concentrating the income in one year and you can spread it out over multiple years. And where possible, you want to do it in a form that you control. Of course, the risk of what, when you do it this way, you leave yourself exposed to a rise in income taxes, tax rates, and you may not be able to control the future withdrawal. The second D is called defining the income. How the income source is labeled will attract different rules. And what you see is a spectrum of least taxes to most taxes. So if we look at the type of income that attracts the most taxes, it's employment income, like T4. The next would be in the middle about business income. Now this kind of falls into corporation and self employment, but that's a separate conversation. But when you have business income, if it's in the purpose of earning income, you're allowed to use the expenses that were used to generate that income to lower the amount of income that you earned to pay less taxes. The next is about dividend income. And this is now on the leased side. Now there are three types of dividends that can be received. There's eligible dividends, which have the most favorable tax treatment. Ineligible dividends, which have a favorable tax treatment which is less than the eligible dividends. And then you have capital dividends which pay no tax when you receive that form of income. The next one is capital gains, where it attracts, for now, 50% income inclusion. And when you do that, you can also apply any capital losses against those capital gains to lower that tax burden. The third defense, or D is designing the income. The structure and how you receive the income can change the amount of taxes you pay. And this is income that you would receive as a T4. This pays the most annual taxes. Income as a corporation pays lower annual taxes and it gives you control to defer personal income taxes. So the strategy here is, where possible, you want to move the income from the least efficient structure to the most Efficient structure. Again, it has to be legally possible under the Income Tax Act. So least efficient is the T4 salary or employee or other income. The middle in between is the self employed, like a contractor or if you receive a T4A and the most efficient structure is the corporation. The fourth defense or D is dividing the income. The income tax system is progressive, so the higher income you make, the higher the tax bracket you fall into and thus the higher taxes you pay. Well, if you have the possibility, you want to divide the income rather than concentrating the income on one person in that one year. So what you want to do is try to spread it between personally, spouse, children, corporation, whichever form you can. Now, there's a very big word of caution here. The liberal government severely closed many opportunities this in 2017. So now you've been taught four of the five strategic Ds for optimizing your income taxes in the Income Tax act if you can, what you want to do is of course combine multiple strategies and when you can, you will have a better outcome. Before I can get to the fifth strategic D, all of these strategies were focused on improving your position in the Income Tax act and the income tax system. But there's something else that can severely limit your ability to keep taxes away from your wealth. Just like how the income tax system is designed, it flourishes for the government from all of your hard work. There's another system that flourishes from your hard work. After the income tax system takes a bite of your income, many Canadians, much like yourself, without much thought, hand over their hard earned money to the system. Sometimes you hand it over for free. Or even worse, you pay the system in fees to hold onto your money while they use your money to generate billions and even trillions of dollars in profits for themselves without sharing any of those profits with you that they make with your money. Even worse, they pay you only pennies and dimes for using your money when you leave it with them. And here are some of the ways that they attract you to leave your money with them. You get told to put your money in mutual funds, commodities, stocks, bonds, with the promise that it's a great place to store your money for some attractive average rate of return. Now what they don't tell you though, is the heart attack you get when you see this.
Now when you see this, you're going to panic. They tell you to keep your money invested with them and don't worry, it'll go back up again. Don't worry. So you put faith and you trust into the recommendation when it comes to looking at your account and when you do that, this could be you.
If your wealth is going to be used for retirement, then this is probably more accurate.
And I just wanted to show you welcome to the market risk, the ride of your life.
Where you enter onto the roller coaster where it goes up and then it goes down and it goes up and then just before you reach retirement, it goes down. And this is what you go through for the rest of your life. Not even just until when you decide to retire, it's even during your retirement. So what I want to share with you is or show you is you earn income, your income gets deposited into someone else's bank. And you know, banking is the most important business in the world. The banking system pumps the money to where it's needed and at some point it flows through your hands and mine, right? And when it does that, where does it all end up? It ends up right back into someone else's banking system. Every single day. Hardworking Canadians like you generously give your money to someone else's banking system. They've made it so easy for you to deposit money with them because you're making them richer every time you do. You are doing all of the work, yet everyone else is getting all of your money. What about when you need your money? Here's what the system will ask you to do. They're going to ask you to jump through hoops.
Maybe this is more like it, where they ask you, how much income did you make, how much debt do you have, what assets do you have, what liabilities do you have, what job do you do all to get access to money? When you put your money in someone else's system, you're putting your money in prison. This is your money and not only is it generally locked away, you pay fees or penalties or even taxes for accessing your own money. And I'm telling you that if you've been handing control of your money over to someone else, you may not be in the best situation right now. And what I want to share with you is I discovered the path to peaceful, stress free financial life the hard way. I'd like to share with you a little bit about my story. My mom fled to Canada during the Vietnam War. My father fled to Canada from China to escape the governmental regime. My parents worked extremely hard earning a living, working for $3 an hour. I can't count how many times they've sacrificed and struggled to make ends meet and ensure I had a better upbringing. One of the things that did create a lot of tension in my family was the subject of money and because of the dispute, my family would not talk about it. I chose my career to become a CPACA because I knew I wanted to be in control of the money. I started my career working for one of the big four accounting firms where I gained a tremendous amount of experience working with a wide variety of Canadian public and private businesses. I worked closely with business owners and a very defining moment for me was when I was working with them during the financial recession of 2000, 2009. I saw businesses collapse and employees let go. I also got to see businesses recover and flourish. I eventually specialize in the real estate industry, more specifically multi residential apartments, real estate development, hotels and tax planning. What I was able to see and experience was very wealthy Canadians knew how to keep taxes away from their wealth. They had a very particular tool that they used in their arsenal that I never saw before or learned about in my training as a cpaca. And it was something I didn't understand at the time. Well, I decided I needed a change in my career and I ended up working for one of Canada's largest telecom companies as a controller. I eventually got tired of it and decided to become an entrepreneur, building and exiting several businesses. I became a very avid reader at this time, reading almost one book a week. On the surface, everything seemed amazing, but it wasn't. I was exhausted and to make matters worse, my world turned upside down in 2015 when both of my parents were diagnosed with cancer. And my parents meant the world to me. I neglected the things that I built so that I could be there to support my parents every step of the way. I ended up pouring much of what I had into getting them the treatment they needed. And when it came to their life, money was not something that was going to come in the way of it. I ended up depleting a lot of my wealth sources for my mom today. She's alive, cancer free and enjoying her life right now. Unfortunately, my dad didn't get the same outcome. Some of the most difficult things I had to experience was as my dad's time was getting near during the transitioning of his assets when I was meeting with his financial advisor at one of the big banks. When I learned how much money my dad contributed to the RRSPs and how much money the bank made from his money. While he made absolutely nothing, I was absolutely crushed. I could not believe the years of hard work that my dad would sacrifice and the crap that he would take for all that he saved. The banks basically stole his money. It was this Moment I knew I wanted nothing to do with banks when it came to investing. After my father passed away, I went on a three year journey to improve my skills in trading the financial markets. Because I knew I could do better than what was offered. I learned to trade. I was very fortunate enough to learn to trade from floor traders. These were people who could see how the flow of money worked. I also learned and saw people lose and ruin their life savings gambling the financial markets. And the difference was because experienced professional traders knew how to not let their emotions get in the way when putting money in the financial markets. It's kind of the equivalent of someone who's just learning how to box and they want to step in the ring in a match against Mike Tyson. As I built up my trading success, there was only two major problems. I was paying through the nose in taxes and as I built up sizable portfolios, I hated withdrawing from my account because that meant I had less money to take trading positions with. And it was then in 2018, I ended up reading this book.
Where over 470,000 copies were sold. Becoming youg Own Banker by R. Nelson Nash. And if this is your first time hearing about this message, please make sure you get a copy of this book. Those of you who want to build their own banking system, you will want to read this book now. To be honest with you, the first time I read this book, which is about 92 pages, it was difficult for me to accept as a financial professional how the concepts shared in this book can actually change my life. Fast forward to a couple of years. I got so frustrated with the amount of money leaving me in taxes and my money being tied up that I came to my senses and I decided to read the Becoming your own Banker book again. It was then my epiphany came to learn that my money was always trapped in someone else's system. Everything I was doing was making everyone else rich. And I have a debt of gratitude to this man, Nelson Nash.
And it came down to the fact that I did not understand what the problem was. I was not fortunate enough to be able to thank Nelson Nash first for pioneering this concept, but also to thank him for the impact this simple book has made in my own life. And if you really want to learn more in terms of the session, I want to just encourage you to visit watchibc.com for a free 90 minute training on this process of becoming your own banker. And of course do this after the webinar. But I just wanted to share with you whoever controls the motion of the money Directing the flow of money into them is the one who accumulates the wealth. And what is the meaning of wealth? Wealth is the abundance of valuable material possessions or resources.
How much of the wealth that you generate is actually owned by you. And here's a very famous quote from R. Nelson Nash. And as Jason mentioned earlier, wherever wealth resides, someone will try to steal it.
Based on the events especially recently and today, this can't be any further from the truth. In the most recent federal budget release in 2022, the government has described their intent.
That they want to look into your RRSPs. Why do you think the CRA wants to have a closer look into your RRSPs?
In 2016 they wanted you, they required that you reported your and disclosed in your tax return your principal residence. Why do you think they want to know about your principal residence?
If matters weren't any worse. This is from Christa Freeland, Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister, where during the 2020 pandemic, if people have ideas on how the government can act to help unlock that preloaded stimulus, I'm very interested. It looks like your personal savings are about to become the property of of the Liberal Party of Canada. And all of this I just wanted to share with you and show you how vulnerable you are to the system. And if you look at it in the same view that I look at it, you'll probably think this is absurd. But as you remember, and as you remember Jason saying earlier, your money must reside somewhere. Where your money should reside is somewhere that you own and you control. What can you do? Well, the answer is obvious. Create your own banking system. And the way to do this is using a customizable tool which is designed for your unique circumstances, used to achieve your unique needs for money placed with a company that you co own. What is this tool? It's a participating dividend paying whole life insurance policy placed with a mutual insurance company. And when I say mutual and participating, this is where you become a part owner of the life insurance company and you participate in the profits generated from every line of business. When we look at it, when we talk about whole life, you are life insured for your whole Life to age 100. Your total cash values of the policy are contractually guaranteed to equal the total death benefit by age 100. Every day that you age, the total cash value rises. The policy cannot lose value. We don't have many financial guarantees in life anymore. However, dividend paying whole life insurance placed with a mutual insurance company can help create peace of mind and unmatched financial security and here's how the cash values begin accumulating immediately tax free and is contractually guaranteed to grow daily. Cash values can't go down. You get easy access to and control over a growing pool of financial value that you can use to take advantage of opportunities that will track you down. You're not penalized for accessing it early like you are in an RRSP or other financial products. There are many tax advantages, both personally and corporately. It provides a growing death benefit which is paid to your named beneficiaries income tax free. It matters where you store your wealth and this process is not an either or. Becoming your banker is not about addressing the yield of an investment. It's all about where you store your wealth and how you finance the things you need in your life, which most certainly can include investments. Now, when your wealth is stored with someone else, you get this. When you store your wealth using a properly designed participating whole life insurance policy, you get this.
When your wealth is stored with someone else, it's controlled by someone else. So you could end up like this. Where Trudeau announces unprecedented action freezing bank accounts of freedom convoy protesters the RCMP gave bank police info on Ottawa protesters with a list of accounts to freeze. And as the dust settled, Fintrac, who's the governing system of money, has released in a report and said on multiple occasions there was no suspicious donations made to the Truckers for Freedom crowd fundraising. So that begs the question, why was accounts frozen? Money flows to you and stays with you in your banking system.
When you have your banking system, you're going to have needs and finances in your life, whether it be for business, investment, home, vacation, car and school. All of that money should stay within your system. Your money is safe and you keep the interest. Instead of paying interest to someone else, you're paying it to a company that you co own and you benefit from. When you place your money with a mutual insurance company, policy owners own the company, not stock owners. When stock owners own the company, you end up dealing with drama like this where someone wants to acquire a company and the board of directors decide to use a poison pill to defend against it. And this is what happens to the stock price.
Do you want a company that you co own or are part of to lose value like that?
When policy owners own the company and work together, you get to enjoy this. You have your money, you redirect it to a policy that is owned by all other policy owners and the participating company Life company earns the profits and then shares the profits back with everyone else when it comes to whole life insurance policies. They are not a creature of the tax code. They were created before income taxes were introduced in Canada.
When designed and implemented properly, this is your escape from feeling trapped from the income tax system and the banking system. The income tax system is stealing from your wealth. The banking system is exploiting your wealth. When you look at it, everything you own right now, how much of that wealth is actually yours that isn't going to be stolen by the income tax system or warehoused in someone else's banking system. Remember, there's only one pool of money in the world. And what Nelson saw was he was pumping money into the pool the wrong way. He was pumping money away from him instead of to him. So what's the solution? The solution is to break the chains. And this is where the fifth defensive strategy comes in which is disconnect. Take steps to remove the power and control away from someone else's hands, which is someone else's systems. And keep it in your hands. Your system.
Get the flow of money coming to you, not away from you. Remember, your money must reside somewhere. Someone must perform the function of banking in your life and it should be you. And let me show you what it looks like with a client of mine. I want you all to meet Chris. Chris is age 47. He's a mechanical engineer and he earns $150,000 as a self employed individual. He saves 25,000 per year into his RRSP and he's accumulated $250,000 today. And just like all of you attending this session, he's attended sessions like this from us at Ascendant Financial. Here's the problems that he was facing. He's paying way too much money in taxes and is struggling to get by. He has no way of getting any money to invest in real estate because it's all trapped in his rrsp. He's not sure if he'll have enough money for retirement when he decides to at age 65. He also doesn't know if he'll run out of money at retirement. But he took the initiative in reading the book Becoming youg Own Banker from R. Nelson Nash. He watched our videos on YouTube and he booked a Clarity call with me. Here's where his goals were. To keep taxes away from his wealth, have access to his wealth to build his real estate portfolio. And he desires 65,000 of tax free cash flow before CPP and OAS. So assuming that's $20,000 for retirement, he wanted to have access and not have it tied up so he can build up his real estate portfolio.
And this is what Canadians are doing today. They earn their income. The income portion of the income flows away into the income tax system.
The remainder flows into the banking system. And as it's in the banking system, they have automated payments and they have to pay for things, pay for bills, pay for debt, pay for things. So everyone else is getting paid first and whatever's left is saved. And where is it saved? In someone else's banking system. And I think by now you realize the banking system cooperates with the government. And with that you're going through another form of again, a roller coaster. And it's tied to the tax system. Again, when you look at this picture. Well, let's look at what Chris is currently doing. Remember, he's making $150,000 self employed. He sends 45,000 plus 7,000 in CPP to the tax system and the pension system. He needs about 70,000 to $80,000 for debts, interest and shopping. And whatever's left, he saves 25,000 to an RRSP, which is in the banking system, which is registered by the government, viewed by the government, controlled by the government. And whenever he wants to access money, he has to pay up to, let's say, $5,000 in taxes. Chris is making everyone else rich. If you look at all the money that is sitting there, it's all leaving him to someone else's system. Where is he building his wealth? Now, before we dive into how I helped Chris, there's another system that I want us to look at. It's Canada's pension system, the Canada Pension Plan. Let's take a look at the money paid to the Canada's Pension Plan or cpp. When you are paid a salary, the government already starts confiscating some of your income away from you before you even receive your actual money. By deducting CPP contributions straight off of your paycheck. When it's deducted, you don't even see that money or have the ability to access and use that money until you decide to retire. The government has also designed laws in place where if you receive a particular form of income, T4, you don't have a choice. You must contribute to the cpp. This means the CPP system gets paid before you do. So long as you receive a T4, you will contribute to the CPP until you decide to retire. So how does the CPP work? A brief explanation on CPP deductions from your paychecks. Well, for employees, T4 employees, they pay half of the CPP. Where the employer pays the other half, if you're self employed you actually have to pay double the CPP because since you don't have an employer, you've got to pay both sides of it. If you're a corporate business owner who pays salaries to themselves, pay CPP through their corporation. Also pay CPP in the form of T4. In essence the business owner is paying it twice irrespective of being T4. Self employed business owner CPP will get their contributions or you may call them confiscations. Have you wondered if it's money well spent? Shouldn't it be normal that you should at least get as much as you've put in? Let's see, I'll let you decide. Let's see for Chris, is it worth it for him? Chris is self employed earning $150,000. His CPP that he would pay is $7,000. When did he start contributing to the CPP? Well, since 24. When does he want to retire? 65. So if we look at the amount that he's contributed to CPP 40 years times $7,000, the amount of money that he would contribute to CPP over that time is $280,000. Well, after 40 years of contributing to the system, here's how much he will receive each year starting at 65. Index with CPI last year. Here are his pre tax amounts. At 65 he's going to receive 10,168. At 66 he's going to receive 10,269. At 67 he's going to receive 10,372 and so on. Remember these amounts that he's receiving from CPP are amounts he will have to pay taxes on depending on the amount of income he receives. And if we look at the statistics from Statistics Canada, while the general male life expectancy in Canada is 85, if he starts receiving CPP at 65 and dies at 85, how much does he get? Approximately 236,291. I don't think it takes a genius to see that this amount is less than the amount that he's put in. How long does Chris need to live until he receives what he's contributed? At least until age 89. If he dies prematurely, will CPP pay his family back any of the extra money that he's contributed? Nope. For all the money that he's been contributing, is he allowed to access that money? Nope. Isn't that a head scratcher? Chris understood the importance of keeping wealth within himself. He knew it was not a matter of putting more money into investments for some unguaranteed rate of return. He knew the severity of the problem. He also knew he was missing something that his current financial team of accountants and financial advisors could not fill. He was missing someone from his team that could see the picture of keeping his wealth away from other people. He was also missing to know what he needs to do to get there. He was missing a coach. Even the very best athletes have coaches in basketball. Tim Duncan has Gregg Popovich, hall of Fame coach, hall of Fame player. Novak Djokovic, 20 time Grand Slam champion has right now Goran Ivanicevic as his coach. Wayne Gretzky has Glenn Sather.
When it comes to building wealth and keeping it away from others, he knew he needed a coach.
And let's see the freedom and prosperity Chris was able to achieve with me as his coach. Here are the tactical maneuvers that brought Chris to financial freedom. Let's go through stage one. Moving his position in the Income Tax act to increase his efficiency with taxes. The first strategic move was design incorporate his income. He met the criterion under the Income Tax act to incorporate his income. So we changed the design of his income. Where initially where he was self employed earning 150, he would pay $45,000 in income taxes. His corporation would pay 18,000 of taxes. So we've just improved the situation by $27,000. The second strategic move was change the definition to choose dividends instead of salary. So where he was playing self employed he paid taxes of 45,000. He also had to contribute $7,000 to CPP as a corporation. By choosing dividends, he ends up paying 18,000 on taxes in the corporation. And then he will access the money via a dividend which he pays another tax of $4,000 personally. And by doing that he also opts out of contributing the CPP. And ultimately the amount of taxes saved here is $30,000. The taxes that were kept away from his wealth that he was paying to the government was $30,000 and we kept it with himself. Let's go through stage two. Implement the infinite banking concept. Creating his own private banking system to store his newfound wealth. This is where strategic move number three came in. Design and implement his own private banking system.
For this matter, we decided to do a personal and a corporate policy. Stage three was to start the disconnecting process by storing and building wealth in his system. Send money to his system of someone else's system. Here's a trap that I want you to see. The RRSP trap.
Income on earnings were $150,000. He was depositing $25,000 already and it was going to his RRSP. And when he does it this way, he's going to get a tax refund of approximately $11,000, moving from 33% to 26% tax rate. Now the problem is when he moved his money to the rrsp. Well, here's the first trial. If Chris dies today, which he has absolutely, generally 99% of the time, no control over deemed disposition in the income tax act is going to kick in and occurs and all of the 250,000 will be included in his income. So if he earned 150,000 and he had 250,000 sitting in his RRSP, well, in a very simple calculation, yet income earning of 150,000, death occurs, all of that RRSP is going to be included in his income for 250,000. For a total income of 400,000. Income taxes are for him would be $180,000. In other words, 45% of what he has. What he's going to leave behind is $220,000. His break even to withdraw to match the tax refund that he received is approximately $60,000. And so the taxes that he would pay is about the same thing, $11,000. So he's paying about 18.5% tax rate. Now the problem is if Chris waits to withdraw money for his retirement, he leaves himself exposed to a rise in income tax rates in the future. And we look at this generally, we know Chris wants $65,000 after tax cash flow for retirement. And I think we've established that taxes have a very high likelihood that it's going to go up. So the conclusion is there's no actual money saved from taxes. And what if taxes go up in the future when you retire and you need to pull money out of the rrsp, you are at risk to pulling more, you're at risk to paying more taxes for the amount of refund that you actually put into it. So here's the strategic move. Redirect his deposits to his bank account to his private bank instead of someone else's. So remember, he had excess income of 25,000 that he was directing to the RSP. We're going to put a stop to that and we're going to move that money that he was already saving. We're just changing the address and giving it to his personal private bank. And when we move it to his private bank, moving his money into a place that will generally never see another dime of tax to build wealth that also has a tax free death Benefit. The next strategic move was to draw no income from his corporation. Well, he told me he needs around $55,000 to live. And because of the position that he's in now, he's in control his annual income, he can decide not to draw anything from his corporation. He gets to dictate the terms of his annual income and position himself to be in a lower tax bracket. And with that lower tax bracket, he can now strategically under his control, release his RRSP from financial prison and place himself in a more advantageous position. So if we look at the 250,000, that tax refund from deposits of 25,000 was $11,000. And when he withdraws 55,000 for his strategic melt, the taxes he would pay on that withdrawal would be 9,500. So in this design, we've kept taxes away from his wealth and if anything we've gained $1,500 over four to five years. It'll take about four to five years to take that money out. The next stage was to continue his wealth building journey and do as he was always doing, just changing who gets the money. Now if you remember, he had tax savings from his corporation from paying less taxes. By changing his design, his structure, he was already saving 25,000 to his personal private bank. Now with his corporation paying less taxes, we started a corporate banking system and we've put $25,000 in there. And by keeping taxes away now, we've doubled what he was able to flow into his systems and build wealth for himself. He's parking his money in his banking system to grow his wealth. When he does that, when he needs to access his money, does he need to do this?
I'm sure at his age now he's tired of also doing this. Can he grow his wealth and build his real estate portfolio? Absolutely.
So let's take a look at the changes for Kris. This was Kris's system. Remember he was making everyone rich by sending all the money away to someone else's systems.
This is Kris's new system.
Corporate income. We've taken a self employed income and converted it to corporate income for $150,000. And instead of paying 45,000 in taxes and 7,000 in CPP, now he's only paying 22,000. So instead of the 52,000 going to the government system, now.
We'Ve implemented his own private banking system.
And from those tax savings of not sending 52,000, he's basically saved about 30,000. And we're redirecting 25,000 from the taxes saved to deposit more into his own wealth building system. And before he would pay bills first, before he paid himself. Well, now we change paying his banking system first. And now his banking system is going to pay for his bills. He sends 25,000 that he was always sending instead of the RSP to someone else's system, to his own system. And in his own system there's daily cash value growth increasing. Every single day.
It only goes up. And before money goes to someone else, paying for bills, paying for debt, paying for anything else, it comes out of his system first before it goes to someone else.
Kris is now building wealth in his own system.
Taxes are also kept away from his wealth. So let's compare the outcomes. In the wealth trap system, the amount of money is deposited for 17 years is 425,000. Does he have ready access to money? No, it's trapped in financial prison. Can he use his money for real estate? No, it's trapped in financial prison. Does he have uninterrupted compounding? No. Does he have tax free access? No. Fluctuations in the stock market? Well, it can go up, it can go down. Pandemics can go down. Recessions? It can go down. Does he have privacy? No. Is it stress free? No.
Let's look at the wealth access system. $850,000 was what went into his system. Now, does he have ready access to money? Yes. Can he use his money for real estate? Yes. Does he have uninterrupted compounding? Yes. Does he have tax free access? Yes. Fluctuations in the stock market? His wealth still goes up. Pandemics? His wealth still goes up. Recessions? His wealth still goes up. Privacy? Yes. Is this stress free? Yes. And what's the cost of that? I would call it priceless. Now he's building his wealth. He's going through his journey building that wealth and he's reached a stage where he wants to access his wealth for retirement. Now, under the wealth trap system, inside the tax and banking system, without coaching, this is what it was going to look like for him. The dotted line shows a theoretical amount of what the RRSP supposed to theoretically show. The blue line that you see is what the actual results of the last few years of the financial markets were. And you know what's funny? You have no idea what the financial markets are going to do.
And just so happens by age 64.
Well, he's deposited 25,000 per year, putting in total money $425,000. And by age 64.
As he decides to go to retirement, could you imagine watching a 35% drop in your portfolio as you are going to retire and stop working.
While under this system and plan he's withdrawing 83,100 which is pre tax and he's taking out total money of 1,450 7,489. The taxes paid on that withdrawal is about $18,000 for a total of 313,422. So the annual income after paying taxes would be 65,580. This is his objective, this is what he wanted. But what do we notice? If he does it this way, he's going to run out of money at 80.
If you were going for retirement, who would you rather be? This is what he did not want.
This is what he wanted. When he decides to access his wealth for retirement outside the tax and banking system with great coaching, he's depositing 50,000 per year for a total money in of $850,000. And that blue line that you see is his wealth that's growing every single day. And he can still access this money for his real estate portfolio while it still grows every single day. At 64 he decides to access his money for retirement and he's drawing money every single year. And when he's withdrawing that money, he's withdrawing 50,460 per year tax free. So the total money out While alive is 1311960 tax free. What difference did it make for Chris released his money from prison that was trapped in an RSP with the risk of future increase in taxes. This removed his hard earned money in a system that will tax him multiple times to assist them that barely taxes him. He gets to enjoy uninterrupted compounding while giving him access to his money. He doesn't have to go through any more financial roller coasters unless he decides to. He's eliminated his risk of taxes of almost 50% at death.
He's removed the government from taxing him on his growing wealth.
And by doing this he's doubled his wealth building ability from 25,000 to 50,000. He gets to enjoy retirement with 65,000 of tax free cash flows instead of paying 17,000 in taxes annually.
He gets to live with a surplus of money and leave behind a bonus check of 726,000 instead of running out of money. What's the cost of the stress free way of life and financial freedom? Well, Nelson said what a peaceful stress free way of life it is when you get the banks out of your life. And for this it's priceless. And if after all of what I went through, I just wanted to share. This isn't about just taxes nor is it just about whole life insurance. It's about being connected with like minded people who completely understand that your wealth is trapped in someone else's system and being taken away chunks at a time. Now you don't have to get a policy or system of policies from us and there are lots of great people you can work with. But again I just want to remind you please don't do this alone.
Households and business owners who do this right all have a good coach. So I recommend getting a coach and you should choose someone who is an authorized Infinite Banking Practitioner with the Nelson National Institute and all of our coaches here at Ascendant Financial is an authorized Infinite Banking Practitioner with the Nelson Ash Institute and I would argue to say our coaches are the best at what they do. One question is so is it possible to use locked in retirement account to pay the premium?
That's going to depend on the terms and how the locked in accounts were, what the terms are during that pension setup and that's unfortunately going to need to Ask when that money can be accessed.
Yeah, yeah, you're definitely right because there's a certain age you have to be in Canada and most provinces to unlock a locked in retirement account. So yeah, it's definitely something that would have to be discussed for, you know, bending that person's situation. You mentioned a RSP meltdown strategy. How does that work? Well, that's a similar answer. Like it really depends on your situation, but go ahead and answer that one, Henry.
Yeah, so in Chris's situation, we redesigned his circumstances so that he had control of not having any income and it was all structured, flowing into his corporation. So personally he was able to access it himself. This is for sure something that needs to be looked at on a personal level. Circumstances, there may be different ways of melting that rrsp, but it's important to look at how you are currently structured and what opportunities need to be taken and then also even when the opportunities need to be taken to access that money up.
Excellent. And we got a great question. I like this one, but I'm going to let you answer it. Henry. Can you fix the Canada debt?
There's one first step to doing it, but I don't know if I have any influence on doing it.
How did you calculate CPP contributions and payments? It does not match with the maximum contribution and maximum payments.
I'll say I just pulled out an estimated number from approximations. I mean, you won't know what the CPP contributions are until you decide to take that retirement. And if we look at Chris at the age of 47. I was just pulling some approximate numbers.
Do you have strategies to leverage IBC for investments?
Well, you're the one in control. Once you've built up a system, you can decide how you want to use your system on investments. And that's where I would actually recommend speaking with your coach. Once you know your circumstances, when you want to use the investment, that would probably be the best time to do it.
Yeah, so yeah, that's a good way to answer it. Henry. When you own, you know, when you have access to capital that you can control, you can make that call. What are you going to do with it? You can invest. It includes investing, if that's what you want to do. So yeah, there's definitely a way to use this strategy and use it for investments. All right. If you keep your yearly income in the corporation, how can you invest that money?
The money would have to be invested from your corporation without, you know, without mixing personal and corporate. Definitely this is something that you need to speak with again. On a personal circumstance to see how it is and also know your goals and objectives on how you want to use that money. And having the conversation with your coach will kind of guide you on the best way to most efficiently invest that money while keeping the money away from other people.
What drives the decision to form a corporation? So again, that's very individual dependent.
There's a lot of circumstances to drive the decision to form a corporation. Now, funny enough, I will be doing a podcast with one of our team members, Richard, on forming a corporation and also structuring something, what's called a holding company as another layer in that. So, you know, tune in for that. It's a lot longer of a discussion versus a Q& a standpoint. If you found a lot of value in this session, leave a Google review. And because you know, Google reviews really help change someone's life. And when they search and find us, they're going to see the impact that we've made. And I hope that the session and information that you've learned here, it's made it impact in terms of directionally where you want to go and would really love if you could add some value to help us by adding a review positive or any constructive criticism from what.
You said, you can get a personal policy and a corporate policy. And yeah, the answer to that is yes, as long as you own a corporation and it's, you know, it's possible. So you can do both. Just like Henry described during his presentation, there's multitudes of people that we work with that own policies, both personally and through their corporation. Have you met someone this system is not for?
I have. I mean, I'm sure all of us go through that experience. And most of the times if I were to share when the system is not for someone, usually the reason behind that is the person has challenges in accepting or seeing the different way, rethinking their thinking and taking the initiative to learn about the system. When it comes to the system, we will give you and start with giving you a nice set of golf clubs. If you want to golf, you're going to be getting a nice. Not, not literally speaking, you'll have a nice set of golf clubs. That's, that's just the system. But once you're given these golf clubs and you go out to the, to the course to try to hit really nice shots and get your ball on the green and put it away, score really well and low, you've got to be trained, you've got to know how to use your system. The golf clubs is not going to make you a better golfer. Unfortunately not.
Well said. And that's what I found too. People who aren't open minded aren't willing to really understand how it works and take the time to do it. The system's definitely not for them. And, and somebody's looking for that silver bullet, something that's going to just, you know, that again, they are disappointed because this is. Takes time, takes dedication and determination and you gotta, you know, you gotta be thinking long range. That's one of Nelson's golden rules. Think long range. Yeah. So if you apply this to your life and you do it, it's gonna be the most beneficial thing you do over your lifetime. For some people, it's instant gratification that they're focused on and then this is not for them.
