Speaker B built QuickSign, a lean e-signature platform, in one weekend to replace expensive services like PandaDoc. It uses AI to generate contract drafts, auto-detects signature fields, and costs $12 a month or $99 a year with no per-envelope fees. The go-to-market strategy: ship fast, find the first 100 users manually, iterate.
I spend a lot of time talking to business owners about building tools that solve real problems. My advice is usually to ship fast and learn from real users. Don't get stuck in big company bloat that makes simple things cost too much. I recently put my own advice into action to show you hey, I'm doing this too. Today, on the prompt, we're going to break down how I built and shipped in a single weekend.
I've spent more than 25 years building software. So when yet another $250 renewal notice from a service I barely use hit my inbox, this time I questioned everything. I was using PandaDoc for e signing documents maybe once every two to three months. No way I was going to pay that much for basic E signatures anymore. If you run a small business, you've probably had a similar experience. That moment pushed me to sketch an alternative on a Asana board and start playing with a concept in my head. So I built quicksign for people who want to run Lean, for small businesses who want to keep overhead down without paying for big company waste just to get a document signed. The goal is simple. Use AI to make contract signing less of a pain without turning it into a huge company wide software project. This lines up with what I wrote in my newsletter back in December. In that issue I argued for shipping before you understand everything, talking to users every day and finding your first hundred users by hand. That's how you learn fast. Now I'm doing exactly that. Quicksign isn't just another E signature app. It's my proof in public that you can build the tool you wish existed and ship it. It also should not what the big players charge. A real frustration can turn into a real asset. Here's what QuickSign is and how pricing works. You can run real contracts through it, then upgrade only if you need to. The site lays it out for you. To make it easy, give it a try with three full contracts, then go unlimited for $12 a month or 99 a year. There's no per envelope charges and you can cancel anytime. When I say I built this for the business owners who need to get things done and run Lean, I meant it. One thing I think is really cool is that quicksign includes AI contract writing so you can go from idea to draft to ready to sign in one go. It has chat based drafting with templates like independent contractor agreements, NDAs and service agreements. And you can keep improving the document in the chat while watching a live preview. That matters because most tools start after you already have a contract. Quicksign helps you get a usable draft faster, then turns it into something you can send for signature right away so you don't have to bounce between tools or redo formatting. It also has smart field detection so you don't spend 20 minutes dragging boxes around. It pulls fields from the text and detects types like signature, text, date, email, phone and money amounts. Then it assigns roles like client, contractor and company. Setup is usually the part that makes esign tools feel annoying. Auto detection cuts the busywork and helps you send faster. The E signature flow covers the basics well. Signature fields where you can draw, type or upload, plus various text fields that you can drag and drop, resize, mark required or optional, and assign to the right person. It supports multiple recipients, email invites, role based fields and signing order. This is what most small businesses need almost all the time. It stays clean and focused instead of hiding what you need under a pile of big company features. I designed it so that the signing experience feels modern.
The interface is clean, works on mobile, and tracks completion in real time.
Oh, also email and notifications are built in. It sends invites, completion notices and progress updates using SendGrid or Postmark. You can use branded email templates so the process feels consistent. And don't worry, compliance is part of the plan. Quicksign is built around eSign, ACT and UETA rules. That includes consent tracking, audit trails, record storage, and a dashboard for monitoring and exporting audit trails. Cheap tools can cut corners here and leave you exposed. Quicksign takes this seriously. I'm finishing the remaining compliance work based on real customer demand, not a pretend checklist under the hood. Quicksign is built for real use. It has workspaces with roles and switching, document storage with status tracking, search and filters, and permanent storage for signed docs. Plus it uses JWT login and encrypted storage. I'm sharing this now because this matches the clock is running out idea I wrote about. I've been building online for 25 years and I haven't seen conditions like this before. Distribution is easier, AI helps you build faster and speed matters more than ever. QuickSign is me doing what I teach, ship, learn, improve, earn, trust and build the tool I wish existed. Next I'm going to build what customers ask for. The first hundred signups matter to me. I'm building an AI contract closer to help you get signatures faster. I'm also building an AI redliner to help you catch key issues during drafting and signing. I know a lot is fighting for your attention. If you're tired of paying too much for basic business tools, and you want software that solves real problems without bloat, try QuickSign. I'll drop the link in the show notes. And if you want to connect with
other builders and business owners who think this way, join my Slack community Control Alt Build. It's where I share what I'm learning. While I build QuickSign and other projects, we talk about AI tools, automation, and building businesses that help customers instead of squeezing them.
Thanks for tuning in today. I hope this inspires you to also build the thing you wish existed. Start now. I can't wait to see what you build.
