Hello and welcome to the Evidence Based Chiropractor. I am your host, Dr. Jeff Langmead. This week we have a recap of NCLC 2017 which was in our nation's capital in Washington. So it was definitely an exciting weekend. There was a lot of action taking place, there was a lot of big chiropractic players present and I wanted to share with you some things I learned and also a little bit of the story of how I got there, what I did and how, how I came back. But before I do, let me say a few words about Rock Tape. If you did not catch last week's interview with Dr. Alison Evans, head of Professional Development at Rock Tape, you want to make sure to do that. It was a really enlightening episode where she talked about her unique chiropractic journey and how there are vast opportunities within chiropractic that we may not think of when we first think of practicing. So Rocktape, makers of the world's best kinesiology tape are proud to introduce completely real designed Rocksauce and Rocksauce Chill powerful topical muscle and joint pain relief now available in 3 ounce roll ons and 32 ounce clinical pump tops. Give long lasting pain relief to your patients. Learn more@rocktape.com topicals Again, that is rocktape.com topicals so I've had Dr. Steve Capo Bianco and Dr. Alison Evans both kind of head up or high up at Rock Tape on the podcast and doing interviews with them. So please check those if you have not had the opportunity. Also if you have been listening, if you are One of the 2,500 or more chiropractors that are listening each and every week, I know many of you have not given me feedback on itunes that helps even more chiropractors find the Evidence Based Chiropractor podcast. So when you get a moment, you can even do it from within itunes. I think there's three little dots in the corner or something to that effect. You can click on that, rate the show, give us feedback if you've been listening. It's the one thing I ask. Take a moment and do that and it would help me out and help the show out tremendously. When you have an opportunity, please do that for me. Thank you. No further ado. We'll dive into a bit of nclc. I've kind of touched on this. I shot some video all weekend long. Be on the lookout for that@facebook.com the evidencebasedchiropractor Additionally, I have a bunch of real deep edits coming out so there'll be a lot of really high quality footage. So I'm excited for that. Keep your eyes peeled on YouTube. Also, if you haven't checked out the evidence based chiropractor YouTube channel YouTube.com theevidence based chiropractor. I'm putting out a ton of video now so do not hesitate to check that out but you'll be able to find the footage. But at any rate, heading up to nclc, everybody knows the Northeast was getting a lot of weather, so to speak, last week and I was coming in. Thankfully I left at the tail end of that so I wasn't so worried about the snow which turned out to be not too terribly bad in D.C. but there were about 40 mile an hour winds when we were trying to land our aircraft and it was a very, very unpleasur situation to say the least. So we were coming in, we probably got about 500ft off the ground. And I don't know if you're listening, if you've watched Top Gun in the past of like kind of a flyby, but we're about 500ft off the ground and the pilot just jams the accelerator and we kind of keep going and take off. And let's just say the plane was moving around like crazy. People were sick all over the place. We circled again and again and then landed very, very fast and very, very forcefully on the Runway. So that was a situation that I certainly do not hope to experience again anytime soon. But it was the start to my NCLC week or weekend one way or the other. So once that happened, it was pretty much all good. Aside from being freezing cold the first few nights there, the event itself was really fantastic. So this NCLC in Washington was a little bit different because it was a combined ACC Rack event combined with the World Federation of Chiropractic event signed with the ACA NCLC event. So it was a really, I don't believe it's ever happened before, but There was over 1,500 chiropractors from throughout the globe present. So it was really there were representatives from every delegation of chiropractic from the WFC throughout the entire world. So it was a really unique and interesting cross section. Now truth be told, I did not really go into too many of the lectures because I was back to back to back with meetings every single day I was there, which is what that we'll talk about in a moment. I heard there were some fantastic lectures, but I didn't have the actual insight into being out with the opportunity, I should say, to be able to go in and check them out. I'll touch on a little bit of what I heard and certainly a little bit about what I was able to accomplish when I was up there. As I said, I really took meetings each and every day, all day. It's a great opportunity, nclc, first of all, to learn and to see, but it's also a great opportunity to interact with others in the profession. I had the opportunity to sit down with Dr. John Knapp, standard Process, he's their head of professional development, and really pick his brain about where Standard Process is and where Standard Process is going. You'll see that I actually have a formal interview with him that you'll see posted shortly, which I'm really excited about. But there are some things with Standard Process. I knew their name from school years and years ago, but I didn't know that they actually owned their own farms, that they really went farm to capsule, so to speak, or farm to bottle. They control every aspect of their product and service al along the way. And whether it's research and development, whether it's manufacturing, none of that is outsourced. It all takes place within just a couple miles of it's all in the one spot and I believe in Wisconsin it was, if I'm not mistaken. I'd love to get John on the podcast as well, but be on the lookout for that Standard Process. I learned some really interesting things and I'm excited to share that more in depth in the interview that I had with him. But definitely a company that if you've heard about them and you kind of fell out of favor or you kind of just have looked at other companies throughout time, I definitely think it's worth taking a look again, take another gander at Standard Process, because I don't think there's anybody in our space. Anybody in the nutraceutical space, anybody in the supplement space, anybody in really the chiropractic solutions space that controls every aspect of their process one after the other. So big kudos to them and certainly hope to learn more soon. Also, if you've seen any of the videos I have done, I've talked about dynamic disc designs. It's Dr. Jerome Fryer up in Canada. He actually handmade makes perhaps what I've seen The best patient education spine models that I've ever seen, bar none. And I work in a very large surgical practice where there's opportunity for models that cost a lot of money and saw models, everything in between. But I will put Dr. Fryer Jerome's models up against anything out there. So Dynamic Disc Designs, Jerome Fryer, huge props. It was great to finally meet him in person. I've been such a fan of what he's created. I've even had a few models of my own. I came home with another one actually this time as well. But it was a great opportunity to sit and chat with him again. I know it kind of sounds like I'm pitching the YouTube channel, but again, I'm going to have an interview that's going to come out with him as well. I had the opportunity really with the video. It makes a lot of sense with this. The opportunity really to look at those models. Absolutely. Check out Dynamic Disc Designs if you haven't had the opportunity to do that. Also had an opportunity to sit down with the CEO Robert, over at Chirotouch. Chirotouch product, just first class all the way through. And they support the chiropractic profession like no other. And when I sat down with Robert, it was something that was very poignant to me because he just came across as so sincere to chiropractic. He's the head of a very large company, CEO of a very, very large company. But to have the opportunity to sit down one on one chat and pick his brain about where Chirotouch is and where Chirotouch is going also was something that certainly take the opportunity to let you know about. Their head and heart are both in the right and they're a fantastic company with a great product for sure, and their leadership is absolutely devoted towards making sure chiropractic continues to flourish. Also had the opportunity to sit down. This will be interesting whether you are an ICA chiropractor, an ACA chiropractor, neither non politically affiliated, but I had the opportunity to learn a little bit more about the new direction that the ACA is taking. They're kind of going through a rebranding and a refocusing effort and they're really going to strive to push forward with the chiropractic profession. Now, again, depending upon your political slant, you're going to choose to either follow them or say, maybe I'll go the other direction. But I certainly think there's some changes coming as far as the ACA is concerned. And as I understand and I'm not involved in the ACA personally in their political landscape. But I will say I know there was a delegates meeting. I believe a bunch of things were approved. So I think we're going to be seeing a rollout of kind of a new ACA and a new model to move forward with the ACA as we move into 2017 and beyond. So I also had the opportunity before we close, I definitely have to talk about the opportunity to catch up with Dr. Charles Penza. So he's a DC PhD. I went to school with him. I know him as Chaz. But you're gonna have him as a guest relatively soon. He is an unbelievable researcher. Obviously he has a PhD as well as a DC degree, but he's also a researcher in the context where he still is an active practitioner. He still actively adjusts people day in and day while doing unbelievable chiropractic research in terms of effects on the central nervous system, differences between responders and non responders, placebo effects of all different types for all spine. I had opportunity to sit with him and take him out to dinner. We hung out all night long and it was what he's doing is very, very special. So Dr. Charles Penza is somebody on the research front. He studied under Murphy. He is well, well versed and gonna be a new name front and really, I mean I'm talking the guy's name on the paper really doing the hardcore lab work. So I'm going to take my opportunity at the Evan Space Chiropractor and promote his work as much as possible because I think it's underappreciated in the chiropractic community to date. But that is certainly about to change. So those were a few things that I saw, learned and went through at NCLC in 2017. If you had the opportunity to head up there, hopefully we had the opportunity to say hi. I met a bunch of you up there. Thanks for coming up saying hi, shooting me messages. I really appreciate that.
