Hello and welcome to the Evidence Based Chiropractor. I AM your host, Dr. Jeff Langmaid. This week we have a awesome episode. I am going to dive into my top takeaways from Hustlecon 2017. I just got back last weekend from San Francisco where Hustlecon 2017 took place. It featured speakers such as Tom, the CEO from Quest Nutrition, Tucker Max Casey Neistat, the founder of away, Miguel from WeWork and much more. And they gave me and everybody in attendance a lot of great information and a lot of information that can be translated, in my opinion to you and your practice. So this week it is going to be my top takeaways from the exclusive event hustlecon which is held every year out in San Francisco, California. But before we dive in, I will say a few words as we do each and every week about Rock tape. Rock stock 2017. You've heard me talk about it. It is coming up fast in September. But before we get there in two months, I'm going to talk about last weekend. As I said at the top, hustlecon is put on by a company called the Hustle. It's really, in my opinion the best daily email that anybody in any business can receive. It is tech news. It's fun, it's interesting, it's relevant content, in my opinion opinion to anybody running a business in 2017. If you want to sign up for the email list of theirs, it's completely free. I don't have too much to do with it at all, but I will put a link in the show notes. It's something that you, I highly recommend that you would check out. But as I said, I wanted to go through today with you some of the inside scoop, some of the behind the scenes of what I learned at Hustlecon 2017. So first it was out in San Francisco. San Francisco is one of my favorite places in the world to check out. The Victorian architecture is just unbelievable. It's one of those top 10 cities, in my opinion in the United States or perhaps even the world where you can just walk down the street and just feel the vibration. You can feel the energy of the city. Again, the architecture. There are beaches. You can walk down and go to the beach. You can go less than 2 miles and see Golden Gate Bridge. There's the Marina district. I was lucky and fortunate enough to go to a San Francisco Giants game. And it's just a place that is, it's really impactful as a location. And I think that's really where a lot of the hotbed of activity comes from. And the speakers this year were really, really great. So the speakers were the founder and CEO of Hint Water, if you've heard of that. Casey Neistat, who's kind of a YouTube superstar. If you haven't heard of Casey Neistat, I am sure that your nieces or sons or daughters have. From there we had Miguel from WeWork speak Max Grammarly. He also spoke away travel and luggage. Jen Rubio, the CEO, spoke Tom from Quest Nutrition. Quest Nutrition, I think is probably the biggest name that chiropractors. If you've been in a grocery store or anywhere that sells nutritional products, you'll recognize Quest Bars. Tom founded Quest Nutrition ClassPass, the founder of ClassPass was there. And then finally Tucker Max, who's an author and also does kind of done for you ghostwriting book in A box, that sort of thing. So I had a few takeaways that I wanted to run through because I thought it was exceptionally relevant to chiropractic. And I actually was able to be in a fortunate position where I had a couple extra tickets. My friend Dr. Jason Deutsch from Amplified and my co founder with the smart chiropractor, smartchiropractor.com he met me out there as well as Tristan, who's kind of the head of Chiro Sushi. So we had a great time meeting and kind of chatting and really talking chiropractic in taking what we learned and kind of brainstorming on what we can bring back to everybody that's the boots on the ground. What is the knowledge that we can extract from these people who are running hundreds of millions if not billion dollar corporations and bring back those gold nuggets for all of our colleagues. Tristan put out an unbelievably great piece on Kairo Sushi that really focused on what Tom from Quest spoke about again, Quest Nutrition, if you're not familiar with it, it's billion. That is a b billion dollar company at this point in time. It is the fastest growing food company ever created. Take that in for a moment. Quest Nutrition is the fastest growing food company absolutely ever. And in five years they went from zero to $400 million. So they know something about brand building, they know something about getting into a market that was crowded. I mean, you think about the nutritional bars out there, that's a really crowded marketplace to go from 0, 400 and now over $1 billion. And I think of that in the same context as the healthcare space. So I think there's a few key takeaways that he brought up. And again, I'd encourage you to check out Tristan's article at Kairosushi as well. But some of these sound exceptionally simple. But I think it's important always to be reinforced and to hear what you can be doing to better get your message out there, to better engage your patients, your prospects, et cetera. One of the things that he starts with is to be where customers are at. So in 2017 and beyond, we're looking towards Facebook, we're looking towards Instagram, we're looking towards perhaps Snapchat. But you're really. Social media is probably the best place where you can get to your customers, to your prospective patients. And the great thing about it is we all have these devices that fit in our pocket, so we have eternal and infinite access to those. But we have to take it upon ourselves to do that to go for it in offline. Meet your customers where they are at the same story. If it's a gym, if it's a grocery store, if it's a health nutrition store, you know people that are gonna resonate with your message. You need to be in those locations and be a presence in those locations. And from there you need to engage with that audience. You need to give them information. You are an unbelievably highly trained health expert as a chiropractor and it's difficult to be engaging all the. But if you think about it, I always use this as a very easy example. If you have your phone on you, which most of you listening to this are probably listening on an itunes podcast. Obviously this is a podcast, so you're tech savvy enough to be able to listen to podcasts. You probably have an Instagram account. Think about taking pictures when you visit local businesses. How about doing a quick series of pictures of the healthy eating choices at your local Whole Foods or your local nutrition tag that business. Then when you do that, people are going to see that, people are going to start following you. These are some very simple things. If you go for a massage, take a picture in there, take a picture when you arrive at your clinic in the morning, take a picture of your front desk staff smiling and waiting for the day to start. Take a picture of your full waiting room. If you don't have a full waiting room, take a picture of the adjusting room so patients understand where they are going to be. It reduces that fear, reduces those barriers and that friction to coming in. That's the beauty of social media is you're able to get your message out there, but you have to be consistent with it. Hand in hand with that is being authentic and being transparent. And these are things that Tom from Quest spoke about at length. So really it's difficult. There's no hacking your way around being transparent and authentic. But that's the beauty again of social media is just take the picture, post it, tag people, engage, be you and it will shine through undoubtedly. So the action steps from this podcast. And again, this is straight from Tom at Quest Nutrition, the CEO who grew this company to a billion dollar company. There are few key takeaways and I'm gonna go laser focused right now with them. Be where your customers are at. Let's give you an action step. If you don't have an Instagram account, start an Instagram account right now. You have prospects and potential patients that are on Instag. That is just a fact. So start that and be where your customers are at. As Tom would say, big takeaway number two with that, engage a lot. So take a picture. When you get to the office, take a picture of the new table you receive in, of the framed artwork you have of your lunch, of the healthy choices that you are making day in and day out in your life. Tag those local businesses, tag the other individuals that work in your office or around your office and start building that community. And the third takeaway is be authentic and be transparent. Not everything has to be the best picture taken on Planet Earth or something that takes 40 takes. Start shooting, get your consistency up there and the authenticity of your message will shine through. So those are a few key takeaways from Hustlecon 2017. I'd also love to know what you think about an episode like this. It's a little bit different, diving into a little bit more on the marketing and a little bit more about what I have fortunate to be exposed to. So give me your feedback. Let me know. Shoot me an email jeffeevidencebasedchiropractor.com Let me know what you thought about this episode and if you haven't given us any feedback, reviews or ratings on iTunes, it's my one big ask. We reach thousands of chiropractors every week and I would love it to be even more. And the best way you can do that is simply by giving ratings or feedback online. Next week I will be back with some research updates. So if you've been waiting for that, you do not have to wait long. I will be back next Monday with some research updates. I hope you have a great week in practice. Have a safe fourth of July and I will talk to you very, very soon.
