Welcome to the Evidence Based Chiropractor, where each week we deliver the latest chiropractic research and marketing strategies, all in the time it takes to get to your office. Now here's your host, Dr. Jeff Langmaid.
Hello and welcome to the Evidence Based Chiropractor. I AM your host, Dr. Jeff Langmaid. On today's episode, we're going to talk about how AI can literally build you an awesome chiropractic website in like less than 15 minutes. My guest is John Morrison of clinic sites. He's done a lot of work for listeners of this podcast and he has some exciting updates to what they're doing at clinic sites that I wanted to fast track. I just talked with John earlier this week. I wanted to fast track this out so everybody knows what's going on and really what's possible in the land of chiropractic websites. Before we get started, I'll say a few words about Patient pilot by the smart Chiropractor. If you're looking to bolster your patient reactivations this year, head on over to smartchiropractor.com, have a demo with our team. We send out weekly email newsletters to your patient list, your most valuable asset with big buttons that say click to schedule, call to schedule. We track everybody that clicks those buttons. You, we deliver, reporting to you. Each and every day somebody clicks with the exact names of those people. It can't get better than that. With great content that teaches and invites consistently. So head over to the smartchiropractor.com and without further ado, here's my conversation with John.
Thanks, Jeff. When I thought about cutting edge of chiropractic and technology, I thought about you. So I thought, I want to get this to Jeff because he's going to be able to geek out with me on how cool some of this stuff is. So it's exciting to tell the story of it here.
Well, I'm pumped. You and I were talking pre roll and I'd love to start with something that you brought up just a few minutes ago as we were chatting and we've chatted for many, many, many years sitting in many, many lounges about the fact that clinic sites was really able to get chiropractic websites live faster than just about anybody else out there. But now, you know, that almost seems archaic to where you're at today. So I'll preload you there by saying, why don't you give a little bit of context to historically did business because it was really unique in the space and, and the gigantic leaps and bounds as things have changed over the last year or so.
Yeah, great question. I think if all of us reflect on our careers, it's always about the journey, right? You learn something because you saw a problem, you solved it, and then you learned something else and you had to grow. And. And then as technology morphs and evolves, you learn new tools that you can use. I mean, imagine the guy that used to chop down trees and all of a sudden he learns about the chainsaw, right? How much of a, an advantage is that in his job? And so it's the same in web design. We have more and more of these new tools that come and they're able to make us smarter, faster, and web design is the same. So when I sought out my journey to help chiropractors with their websites about six years ago, we had a great framework that helps. So anytime you have a framework, it makes a confusing thing a little more simple. And then when you have a tool that you can use to help move the framework along, it helps too. So we had kind of. I feel like I knew evidence based chiropractors so well that I knew the questions to ask and how to automate those questions, even to apply savings on to them. And then we knew, like, how to make them quickly, because hip pain is. There's only so many ways to talk about hip pain, whether you're in Florida or British Columbia. And so, you know, we were able to make the content customizable and yet still consistent to what evidence based chiropractors were saying. And so that was quick. And then the thing that I think was really helpful was the software that we were using to build the sites was very intuitive so that anybody could manage their site and really be able to create a great site and, and feel like it's theirs. So gone were the days of, you know, I need to change the hours on my site, or I need to change a lowercase g to an uppercase g, or I need to add a blog, like I have to. So I have to call a guy and then he's grumpy that I interrupted his business and he's got a, you know, takes a week to get a change. So we just said, like, you should be able to manage your own site. So we had a tool there that was great. But then when November 30 came, the last frontier was finally able to be won when it comes to building and launching websites, and that was November 30th, ChatGPT becomes a thing, and our Twitter feeds and everything Feeds are never going to be the same. Right? Even the dads at my school, my kids, school pickup, are talking about ChatGPT and AI since that day. So it was out there. Now you and I know that, you know, guys like us, we would use AI and we would talk about it in dimly lit hallways and hushed voices, right? Because we didn't want anyone discovering what we had found to make writing really quickly. But now this tool was available for anyone. And the thing that I really loved about it was that we were able to now cross that great chasm of how do I fill my website with content? And with AI, we are now able to get stuff out there with just a click of a button and then the AI does all the work. So it used to be that my team and I had to do all the work and we had to charge people for it, but we were not robots, so we did within working hours and we made mistakes. But now you train the AI and it doesn't take hours. What used to take, you know, weeks or hours could now take just minutes. And, you know, the, the cost effectiveness for, for our clients was, you know, astronomical. So really, that was my journey, was learning the, the framework, the, the process, and then having the right tool to continue on my driving why, which is helping chiropractors and all clinic owners really, for that matter, get websites that they and their patients truly love. So it just happens we're doing it differently now.
Love that. So give me some context in terms of the, the time. I'm gonna, I'm gonna, I'm gonna put you under the, under the bright lights here and say, what's the average turnaround time? So I'm a doc. I'm like, maybe I have a website. And I'm like, I know I need to change this. I'm looking for something. I've been looking at clinic sites. Maybe I'm a new doc and I'm like, okay, I'm ready to, I'm excited. I'm ready to get going. I know I need a website. Let me get that in place when I talk with the team at clinic sites. What's the process like?
Yeah, ideally, you wouldn't even have to talk with them because you're probably busy all day and you don't want another meeting with an outside vendor.
Right.
Your ehr always wants to meet with you and your phone provider wants to meet with you, and they always want to do it during the day. So what if you could do it at nighttime when you're, you know, you have a little Bit of extra energy. Or maybe you want to do it at lunchtime, right? Like, maybe you get a sandwich and you start eating that sandwich. You think, could I work on a website? And the time it takes to eat this sandwich? And the truth is that you can. So here's what you would do if I was starting. I mean, there's one advantage that if you're a Jane user, you have, because we just happen to have a great relationship with Jane, where they've given us access to, like, this is a geeky term, but their API, which means if you've put any information into Jane, like your name, your bio, your pictures, your location, your times, you know, all that, we're able to grab all that information from Jane and auto populate your website. So that's been done. We've talked about this in the past, but it really helps to have a website that syncs with your EHR so that when you make an update to your ehr, like if you lose a provider or increase your prices or your availability, your website automatically syncs. We've had that for a while. So you would give them your Jane link. Now, if you're not a Jane customer, you can still use clinic sites. There's just a little bit more legwork that has to be done for some, you know, for the things that we talked about, like your contact information, your address photos. We don't have any of that yet, so we need to get that. But if you're Jane, it's already there. So we bring it over. And now the website structure is. We've, we've always had that. But that frontier that I said of the. The content on the home page, the about page, and your service page, the AI can now write all that. So that when you say, spin up a site for me, you give your Jane link and then it reads what disciplines you're a part of, and it takes those disciplines and then it asks the disciplines a bunch, you know, of gets a bunch of questions of how a patient would kind of be interacting with those disciplines, and then boom, it gives you that home, about and services pages for all your disciplines. And then the other thing too, that I, you know, love about it is that instead of hiring an expensive SEO person, now you can actually just go to your SEO page, which is just one click away. And I mean, it'd be cool if I could do a live demo here, but we'll just, I'll talk it through. You go to your SEO page and then hit auto populate. It writes out your page titles and Your metadata. Now, a lot of people won't care about that, but the people who care about it are going to love that. It's no longer going to cost them five to nine hundred dollars a month to have someone else do that for them. So. And if you want to do it yourself, you'd have to like manually write it all in or research what keywords you needed. But it'll just automatically do that based on your location that it knows and your services that you provide that it knows. So one click, SEO, oh man, it's going to save people so much time and so much money. And then it'll spin it up quickly. You can watch a little video on the side, or you can grab your lunch, or you can make a phone call, and then in two minutes, you'll have your website right there for you to look at. And now remember, because I said the software is easy to use, you can just make your changes and edits. And maybe there was a word that you would have phrased a little differently that the AI didn't know about, so you just change that sentence. But the structure is all there. The, the meat is all there, the skin is all there. You just need to change the color of blush if you want to change it a little bit. You and I both know that a good blush really makes all the difference.
You gotta, you gotta update the blush. Yeah, that's, that's awesome. So the way I'm gonna say it back to you, what, what, what I heard, and you correct me if, if I miss anything along the way, it sounds like if, if anybody's listening, that is a Jane user, of which I'm sure there are hundreds, if not thousands. There is literally no reason to have a website that isn't clinic sites because with the, with the literal click of a button, you can attract all of the information, data, all of the benefits of utilizing Jane and apply that and more to your website is. Am I correct in saying that?
Yeah, yeah. And, and it's. It's all there. And the good news is too, that it's, it. You don't pay anything when you do it. And all of a sudden once you go live, you're like, I like this site. Now it's $39 a month, which is still very, you know, way under what a lot of people that are listening are charging if you have a third party vendor that's managing your site. So, yeah, I think you got it. You nailed it, Jeff. It takes a little bit of time. It used to take a, A lot. Like I Remember I was telling you this before, but we used to take pride in the fact that we could build a site in weeks instead of months and people like you could build a site in weeks. Now I'm like week seems archaic and now we can say minutes. Right? So I think everyone should try it. Whether you're a Jane user or not. It's free just to try like go to clinicsites co and just spin up a site and yeah, and I, I, I would say like anybody should just see what you can do with AI now because it's such a cool tool. If you're not using AI in your practice in so many ways, then you're just missing out on opportunity to work smarter and faster and, and you know, it's only going to get better for us with these new tools that we have. Just like the guy that discovered the chainsaw after hacking down trees for the first, you know, two decades of his career. Legend, legendary guy. And also the chainsaw comes along. I can do this in like a minute or a couple minutes.
Anyways, that's, that is super cool. So let me ask a, a follow up question. You mentioned some of the ease of use, you know, to no surprise to anybody listening that I geek out on the tech stuff. I like gear, I like software, I like all the stuff, right. But for most docs it's the opposite of that. It's like, oh my gosh, anything in the technology realm is like the more that I can stay away from that, the better off I am. So you mentioned some of the ease of use for the docs out there.
Whether they're younger docs, whether they're more.
Experienced docs, and maybe they're not as tech savvy as, as unites, just not what they love doing. Talk a little bit more about that ease of use. Do they need to be like techno wizards to know how to get in and do stuff? Is it built in an intuitive fashion? How would you describe the back end?
Yeah, Jeff, I think the number one rule of business is know thy customer, right? Like that's the first commandment. And, and I think I'd be a fool to have been in this for seven years now, serving the evidence based community and not knowing that some people just hate tech and we've always known that. And you know, I, I empathize with that because you can't be good at everything, right? You're good with your hands or you're good at business or you're good managing a team. What's the chances that God also gave you the skill set of software. Right. And so we have just realized that that and I still think, I still live by the mandate that everybody should be able to manage their own website. You shouldn't have to just go to someone else to make little tiny changes to your site. So we've made the Jane thing easy to use so that it automatically updates your website. So that's one way we've solved that problem. The one is just making the software really intuitive. I don't want to throw shade on any platforms but WordPress there's no actually one person that's running it. So I can kind of do that. But I, I've tried WordPress sites and every time I hit publish I'm like am I going to break the whole thing? Like is it all going to fall apart? It's happened before and I'm always worried it's going to happen again. WordPress is a very complicated platform. So many websites are built on it and geniuses use it and they make beautiful stuff on WordPress and, and they're there like they're the highest of the highest and they're amazing designers and incredibly techie. Most people that I know don't do well with that at that, they're not at that level and so they need something that's you know, point and click. I want to, I want to change this word. I'm going to click on that word. I want to change this picture. I need to click on this picture. Just like Facebook figured that out, right? People aren't really overwhelmed unless they're trying to run ads or something on but just use that. Being a user of Facebook isn't that complicated, right? I want to comment on something. I hit the comment button. That's something that's helpful. The thing that Facebook is really struggles with is support. If you ever have a question for Facebook, are you ever going to get someone on the phone? The truth is you're not. And those big companies are going to get into major, you know, it's just frustrating for us and major headaches where clinic sites is different is what I like is that even for the least technological minded person we still have human tech support. And that's the thing I love. If you look at our Google reviews it's, it's all about the tech support. And I'm like we, we spent all this time geeking out over like AI and making easy to use software and all they care about is our support team like come on anyways. But that turns out I guess that's a need in the market is just having someone to talk to about your website. Maybe your nephew doesn't pick up the phone anymore when you call, or it's awkward at Thanksgiving because that techie uncle doesn't want to talk to you about your website anymore, or you broke up with that, you know, your spouse or partner that used to do it for you. So you. You don't have anybody. But with clinic site, the thing I love is that you always have someone, even when you have a question. So that's kind of how we solved the problem of what level of technological comfortability our clients are at.
That's awesome. And it sounds like if for the listeners out there that might not yet be Jane users, it sounds like if you are not yet a Jane user, that it's just some simple input of some basic data and still clinic sites is able to take it and run with it. Is that correct?
Yeah, yeah. I mean, enter your address, enter your name, and like we can grab all that from Jane or you can just type it in, but you had to type it in at one point, so we just don't want you have to do it twice.
That's. That's awesome.
So.
So for everybody listening and watching that are. I'm sure there's a lot of people that are interested to learn more. How do I take the next step? You mentioned it, but I'll ask you to mention it again and I'll drop link down in the show notes for the docs that know that it is time to either update or get started with a website and clinic site sounds like it's the right place for them. What's the best and easiest way for them to take action? It sounded like they could you literally head over and see a mockup of a site that could go live today.
Is that right?
And where do they go?
Yes, sir. Yeah, you just go to clinic sites co and enter in your Jane link or your name of your. Your clinic. And then they will spin you up a site based on your, you know, your disciplines and services and location, all that. And then you get to. It's like no credit card. Just have a look at it. If this is something that you think is an upgrade from your existing site, which is either no site or an old site, or you're paying too much and you want to pay less. So you will pay nothing until you say, actually this is the website that I want to be my site. And then it's third. That's when the $39 a month kicks in. I'll just say this depending on when people are listening, the price is going up. So, I mean, this doesn't, I don't want this to be a sleazy pitch, but it literally is like, like we've realized 39 is really low. We haven't raised it in a long time. So there's a raise coming, but we're gonna, you know, honor, honor the time that we recorded in February 2024 and just say it's 39 for those who come in and at, you know, in this season. So we want to keep that good for your listeners, Jeff.
That is fair and appropriate. So it sounds like if you are somebody listening and watching, looking for a new website, looking to upgrade, looking to really get things together and take control of your destiny and potentially shed hundreds, if not thousands of dollars per month in unnecessary expense, it sounds like now is the time to head over to clinic sites. So I'll be sure to drop a link down in the show notes. John and I've known each other a long time. I absolutely recommend his products, his services, and clinic sites is the center of that portfolio. John, I really appreciate you taking some time coming on and highlighting some of these great advancements and I'm looking forward to hearing on the back end how many docs are super pumped with the new websites they have from clinic sites.
Thanks, Jeff. It's truly a pleasure. And when we, when I saw this, what the team had done, I was like, I gotta tell somebody. And so I literally texted you and like, Jeff, can. Can we break a story to your people that they can see what can be done? Because I really don't think a website should be a source of like, shame or embarrassment. Like, you should be proud of your site, but it shouldn't cost thousands of dollars in several months to get there, especially with the tools that we have. So is a. I just wanted to go to you, I wanted to share the story and get it out there because, you know, you've led so well over these years with helping people embrace the tech and understand the tech. And so, yeah, it's your story to tell now.
Thank you.
I appreciate it. John, thanks for coming on, man.
My pleasure, Jeff, thanks so much.
