On today's episode, I was fortunate to sit down with Michelle Weatherby, product marketing manager at Jane. So if you have been frustrated with your ehr, if you'd like to learn about what's out there in the EHR world and basically understand how to run your practice in a more streamlined fashion, this episode is for you. Without further ado, here's my interview with Michelle Weatherby. Michelle, thanks for coming on and chatting today.
Thanks so much for having me. I'm excited to be here.
It is my pleasure. So I'm going to take it way from the top here for the docs that maybe are just becoming familiar with Jane. What is Jane?
Yeah, so Jane is a practice management software and EMR for health and wellness providers. It is really designed to help you help your patients and also run your business.
I love that. You know, in my practice, a couple of things I want to dive into a lot of different things regarding some of the benefits and features of Jane. I want to talk about what I consider to be the world class customer support as well as some really big strides that Jane has made in the chiropractic space. Which is awesome because there's so many chiropractors that are super frustrated with their current, you know, practice management software. And that's something I hear all the time. One of the things that I can speak into is really Jane has helped streamline operations in my practice. I know that's a big focus of the software development, is really being able to save the provider time. Maybe talk a little bit about that and why that's such like a North Star thing within the Jane ecosystem.
Yeah, totally. I mean, we know clinic life is so busy and especially chiropractors. Like, it moves really, really fast and so the fewer clicks that you can do to get something done, the better if the workflow exists where you want it to ex exist. Like, I'm on my schedule and I need to start billing so I can just start doing that like perfect. You're not hopping between tabs, you're not clicking back and forth. Jane was really built like with the idea of being beautifully designed, like top of mind. And so it's nice to look at, which is great. It's nice to look at pretty things, but like the layer deeper than that is that it's like really simple and the things you need are where you need them. And that's always been like a really top focus for us as we build more and more and more things.
Yeah, that, and that's been my experience as well. I've used as probably listeners have a variety of different systems over the course of my career from really, really simple basic systems. I practiced in a couple of orthopedic groups that were using enterprise, you know, custom solutions that were crazy in terms of the complexity and the challenges associated with it. I would agree with you 100%. I feel like Jane really has a simple, intuitive, easy to understand design that helps docs really become more efficient. I know again, there's a lot of docs out there. Like, man, I'm not super happy with my current solution, but changing always seems super, super difficult for those docs that are maybe on the fence or exploring Jane, what's that process from a high level kind of look like going from what they're currently using into Jane as their practice management solution.
Yeah. So I mean, we always encourage folks to book a demo. We, we always joke that it's like Jane's job interview. You're hiring Jane for your practice. Come to a job interview, make sure like Jane is the right fit for you. So we always say book a demo and then we'll make sure we follow up all your questions. We want to understand your practice too. Right. Like we don't want to push ourselves on you if we are not the right fit for you. So that's always a great first step. After that, if you're like, yes, I'm in. Jane seems perfect for me or at least pretty darn good for me, then you can get your account all set up at or start it up and then book a call with our team. We have a wonderful, lovely support team. I truly cannot say enough good things about them. They're just like super genuinely helpful humans. All of our support is totally included in every package. You can call as many times as you want, you can email as many times as you want. And so they'll help you get your account totally set up. That can take depending on how many you know, the complexity of your clinic, how many providers you have, all that jazz. It can take anywhere from a few days to a few weeks to get everything in there. If you are using another software, we can import most or all of your data for you, depending on which software you're coming from and how much that company is willing to give over. We have lots of guides on that. So if you're ever curious, you can go onto Jane's website and search the software you're currently using and there might be a guide that explains sort of what kind of data import we can do. And then after that you'll be more or less up and running and the team will just be there if you need us. Yeah, that's a very, yeah, high level.
Overview of the process that's, that was, that's pretty much mirrors the experience that I had, which, which is great. A support team. I want to come back around to that with, with, with a really direct question like, how is your support team so good?
Oh, that's really sweet to hear there. I mean, I think first and foremost, like, we really prioritize it. We always talk about how like support, you know, our product is like, obviously Jane, but the other half of our product is our support team. It really is like the beating heart of everything. So we focus on hiring people who like genuinely want to help, who are aligned with our value of helping the helpers. That's all of you. And so I think it starts there and then it, you know, we just have like a really extensive training program and the people doing the training are all very, you know, bought into this concept of like, we are here 100 for our customers. And yeah, I mean it's just like a really a strong value of ours to be supportive.
It shows and I think it's fantastic. So let's talk into some of the, really the benefits of Jane. I guess for docs out there that again, maybe have heard the name and looked into it a little bit, but they're just like, you know, how is this different? How is this better? I guess what are some of the things when you think of Jane and how docs implement it, what are some of either the words that come to mind or some of the themes that come to mind in terms of how Jane really helps a practice day in and day out?
Yeah, I think, I mean, we've touched a bit on like our focus on being beautifully designed. It's nice to look at. We've touched on our support. We're here for you. I think that it comes down to all the different features and I feel like I could spend forever talking about like individual features, but maybe the thing that I found really aligns well with our chiropractic community. Did you catch my little alignment? Good job.
Thank you.
I was like, I'll work it in somewhere is that we're like constantly building and evolving and changing. Like, we never feel like we're done because, you know, the. The industry is evolving. The way you work is evolving. And so we need to continue to evolve along with you. So I think that's the other way that in the Cairo community, at least, we. We really are a great fit is because we're never going to stop building. And when you tell us you need stuff, we're like, oh, okay, okay. Like, how can we. How can we make this? And how can we make this better?
I love that. With. With some of those features, let's maybe highlight a couple. What. What's a feature or two that comes to mind for you? Or just like, man, this is kind of a personal favorite of mine. And maybe even one or two sleepers. Maybe they're one or two that, you know, are super important to get out there and that most docs are going to really. Maybe they've heard it somewhere else, but that you want to elaborate on. I'd love that. I'd also love to hear just maybe one or two. You're like, man, when this came out, when we shipped this, I was super pumped. I think that'd be. That'd just be interesting to know.
Totally. Okay, so maybe I will start with some of our scheduling features. I think a lot of people, when they think of Jane, think of the schedule. So we've got a few advanced scheduling features that I think are so awesome for kairos because they let you kind of set and forget everything. So you can organize all your rooms, and if you have certain equipment that lives in certain rooms, you can let Jane know that. And if you have certain equipment that needs to be tied to certain types of treatments, you can let Jane know that. And then, so when you or your admin or even your patients on the online booking side go to book in appointments, everything is as it should be. You're not spending all this time sort of like, oh, shoot, so and so booked in for this. We got to move this equipment over here. We got to reshuffle the room. So I think that is one of my favorite elements, especially for kairos in Jane. Something else that I think is a bit of a sleeper. I know a lot of Kairos, when they come over from a certain software, will struggle a little bit with the charting at first because they're used to sort of just going, click a button, click a button, click a button. Done. But we actually have a feature that does that. It just takes a little bit of time to set it up the exact way you want. We call it smart options and narratives. And basically you create all these buttons. You can click your button and Jane will start writing a narrative for you. So I think that's a little bit of a sleeper. Something that came out recently that I was super jazzed on. And if you had told Michelle of like, three years ago, she would be excited about this, would never believe you. Is our clearinghouse integration. So that launched in July of last year with integrated claims. So we launched that you could submit your claims, receive responses, and receive your eras back into Jane so you could post your payments. And then just this past July, we launched eligibility checks. So now folks can run their eligibility checks through Jane as well. And that's just been such a game changer, seeing the response from folks like, and again, it's insurance. It's not sexy, it's not exciting. But seeing the response from folks being like, oh my gosh, this has made my life so much easier is just like, oh, love to hear it.
Yeah, that's such a critical component. I think there's still such a thick percentage of chiropractors, probably a majority, that insurance drives a significant portion, if not a majority of their business. So being able to ease that and really, you know, as Jane came into the US market, I love to see that continue, you know, iteration that really just helps and assists. And I'm sure it goes beyond the US but specifically in the United States, having some of those features that really enable a doc's workflow with insurance. Hey, we both know insurance ain't the easiest thing to work with in the best case scenario. So really, being able to have features built into your practice management tools and software to make that as streamlined as possible is really, really nice. Because then, and I'd love to hear you speak into this to me, then everything can kind of live in one place. And there's such an advantage when some of your communication, whether it's transactionally about appointments, the booking and the scheduling of those appointments, and then the billing of that can really live within one place. And I just would love to hear kind of your thoughts on the ecosystem, as I would call it, meaning really the advantages of being able to combine all of those things. And how do you see that within the Jane world?
Yeah, I mean, I think for a long time, and especially when we were a little bit newer and mostly in the Canadian market, we really did feel like everything was all built in. But the industry is changing. We've been kind of like pulled into the US a little bit more, and we're Noticing now that there are actually more things that maybe we need, maybe we need some more marketing tools, maybe we needed those insurance tools, so we brought that in, maybe we need some messaging tools. So we're working on that. So I think there's already most of what you need in Jane, which I think reduces so much like mental friction throughout your day. Just having it all concisely nicely in one place. All of your reports are in one place, all of the features. You're not clicking through a million tabs trying to find your login for everything. But it is something that we're still, I think working on a lot and it's been a big focus of this year and it will continue to be a big focus of next year is really expanding that ecosystem so that truly all of the things that you need and want can be pulled into your central hub.
That's great. So I'm not going to, I'm not going to get you in trouble with your development team by giving a aggressive scoop here, but you highlighted a couple of things that are coming in the future, I guess even if it's not a specific around the feature, just a theme. Which one of those gets you the most excited? Which one do you think will really, you know, as it, as it gets out there into the wild, will really make a massive impact in the practices you guys are helping?
Yeah, there's a few that we're working on right now that I'm really excited about. Yeah, I'll give a little high level. So messaging is one that we've been told for a while now is needed and we're actively working on that right now. So we're very excited about that. I'm currently quite involved with our outbound fax integration that we're building which like again there's another thing that young Michelle would never have thought would be exciting. But hey, we're getting a fax integration and that's really exciting. And then on like the total opposite end of the technological spectrum, we're doing a lot of work on some AI charting features that I think are going to be a huge game changer and especially for Kairos who I know like, you know, you see so many people, you have so much you need to document in a day and I think this will just like completely change the game for that. So yeah, lots of, lots of exciting new things coming up, but those are just like probably three that I'm most excited about.
That sounds like that sound good to me for docs listening. I guess if you were to say this type of doc is really the quintessential person that gets the most out of our software and our system, whether it's as specific or as wide as you want to be. I'd love to just hear from you what's sort of that ideal doc where it's like when this type of doc comes over to Jane, they are just absolutely loving it. How would you describe that practicing physician?
That is a great question. I think in general, the types of docs and the types of practices that find Jane to be the best fit for them are folks who are really focused on like providing really great patient care and they want a tool to facilitate that. They're focused on wanting to run their business smoothly. Maybe right now it's not people who are looking to grow aggressively because like I mentioned, we know we have some work to do on bringing some of those marketing tools and things in. But yeah, I would say that would be sort of the quintessential, like people who are just really like excited to work with their patients and make sure that's all super smooth for them. Yeah. What I'm curious to hear from your perspective, actually, because you are a Jane user, you have a practice. I'll turn it around on you. Tell me about it.
Yeah, think. You know, in, in my mind, docs that are looking to have a. I'm going to say this, a balance is really an easy to use system that allows the. It's easy to use out of the box, but gives the ability for deep customization, I think is one of the things that, you know, stands out to me. Some of the other standout items are the ease of online scheduling, I think is really, really critical. That that's been a, a big benefit, you know, in our practice. And then some of the other components are, I'm going to say just the access to information. So some of this speaks to design, but being able to see at a glance a lot of the information that is the most important from a provider level and from an ownership level, I think is really, really helpful because those are the things where it's just like the stuff that you need all the time. When it's a pain in the butt, it's like a real pain. And I know I can see and view some listeners right now being like, yeah, I'm living in that world right now. Meaning, like, you know, there's just like the stuff that they want they either can't get, it's difficult to find, or lost data. And, you know, I always think about it, you know, in our Practice we have a doc that's practicing and I'm more in the ownership capacity. So it's really about like I want to be able to see the items that I don't want to like get rid of KPIs because I can't find the data. And we were speaking before we hopped on just around, you know, I really like being able to see a lot of the reporting and much of the reporting within Jane is actually what I want to see each day, week, month, quarter and year. And that makes things just so much easier to kind of spot check against bank accounts and things like that which historically like when that's a pain it can, it's real bad. So it's one of those things that when it's there your life is so much easier and when it's not it's really, really destructive to the ability to actively manage the practice. So those are a couple of things that come to mind for me right off the b in terms of the benefits of, of Jane. So thanks for, thanks for asking that one back my way.
That's like so great to hear too from because you know we often think about the solo practitioner when we're thinking about how we build things because we know there's so little time, you know and there's so much admin to do and you want to be with your patients. We try to streamline the admin as much as possible but it's so cool to hear that as someone who is like you know, not in the day to day you're literally using it to like make insightful business decisions and manage your staff. Like it's so great to hear that it scales that all the data scales really well for you as, as well.
Well well done to you and your team Michelle. We're going to be up against it. Really appreciate, appreciate you taking the time to come on and docs listening and watching.
