Welcome to The Evidence-Based Chiropractor, where each week we deliver the latest chiropractic research and marketing strategies, all in the time it takes to get to your office. Now here's your host, Dr. Jeff Langmaid.
Hey everybody, as promised, I am here with Dr. Steph Rodsatter. She's a friend of mine and also a member of UIC. UIC is running a top 20 chiropractors. You can vote for it right now. We're going to talk about what it is, why it's important, and how you can get involved. Steph, I really appreciate you coming on and chatting today.
Thanks for having me, Jeff. I'm excited.
It is my pleasure. So let's pick it up right there. There's many people out there probably have seen some posts by, by people promoting the Top 20 Chiropractors. I guess ultimately, what is this at a high level?
Well, let me just start off by congratulating you, Jeff, for being like second and second year in the running for top 20. So congratulations. The cool thing about this is just the fact that we're really looking at influential chiropractors. It's not a popularity contest, right? We're looking at people who have like really made an impact on the profession and that are looking to make an impact on the profession. And so that's really, you know, as UAC Ultimate Achievers Club, that's where— that's the club that we're in. And we are really wanting to, you know, acknowledge these achievers, these people out here that are, you know, making a difference in the chiropractic profession. We know that this time in chiropractic is— there's never been a better time to be a chiropractor right now, but there's the profession, and we do see them— that in some ways it's starting to shrink. And we want to make sure that we are, you know, encouraging people to continue to path the way for our young chiropractors and, you know, just making sure that this profession can be successful because It's a one of a kind, and this is something that we want to, we want to recognize those people that are like making a difference and are, you know, taking time sometimes outside of their practices to help other chiropractors and help the profession move forward.
I love it. And I want to highlight, uh, if you're listening or watching, you have until June 17th. We're going to drop a link down below. It is super easy. You can click the link, the all the chiropractors are there, and I think you can write in even potentially. So it is really easy, just takes a moment to do so. Steph, about how many docs are on the list to choose from? I forget the number.
Would you— Yeah. So we have 175 nominees right now. There is space for you to continue to put people's names in there if there's people that you feel like are missing, especially in our profession. You know, the cool thing about this is it's— we're not looking at one specific technique. We're not looking at one specific type of chiropractor. Honestly, it's like chiropractic across the board. And it's been really fun to see the names come in and who's in the running and who's getting tons of votes because some of these people, like we, we don't even know, you know, which is kind of wild to see, but it's also really cool and really amazing because, you know, they're clearly making a huge influence and it makes us want to know that. It makes us want to understand what kind of difference that they're making in the profession at this point.
I love that. Last year there was a really cool kind of print magazine that came out. What's the plans this year?
Yeah, same thing. We want to, we want to print that magazine. It's just, you know, like I said before, it's just such a great way to be able to tell people like, hey, thank you for, for making a difference. Thank you for influencing this chiropractic profession in a positive direction. And so, yeah, there's a, there's a big magazine that we'll print out that gives a little bit of a blurb about each person that, that makes that top 20 so that they can— we can see what kinds of things are taking place and changing in the profession and you know, a lot of these people are the people that we look up to, right? And so it's cool to be able to see a little bit of information out there and give more people, more people to look up to, see what they're doing, see the, see the cool things that are happening in within the profession and make sure that we continue to make this moment, take this momentum forward.
I love it. This is being really spearheaded and produced by UAC, which is a mastermind group you and I are a part of. For docs that maybe haven't heard of UAC, maybe give a background a little bit. Uh, yeah, what is UAC and just, uh, give, give some insight.
So it's pretty awesome because it is a, it's a group that's, you know, it's not coaching. We always make that really clear. It's not a coaching group. It's more of a, a brain trust or a mastermind. And the fact that it's all successful chiropractors, chiropractors that are working on like, not, you know, the main conversation is not how are we getting more new patients or making more money. Instead, It's how, how do we, you know, create businesses and collaborate on businesses that are within chiropractic. And so you see functional doctors, you see straight chiropractors, you see upper cervical. I mean, we see everything within the profession really is within UAC. It's just those successful doctors that are big thinkers and we want to raise our kids together and, you know, things like that because we know that our values are all a little bit different than what most people are. And the fact that we, you know, value abundance, value health, value relationships, and, you know, remarkableness within our, within our, our whole lives, you know. So I think that that's really what, what UAC is all about. And it gives us those opportunities to have a lot of business conversations, that entrepreneurship that's deep, like deep within our veins, right? But also have a lot of fun, a lot of deep relationships, and like I said, some family stuff to go with it. So it's been just an awesome— I know for me personally, it's been an awesome add to my life. It's one of those things, you know, we have 3 events a year, and it's one of those things that gets on my calendar and I don't let that move. You know, I will not miss a UAC typically.
I feel exactly the same way.
Yeah.
You mentioned the 3 events per year. Let's talk a little bit about that, kind of the form and format, because a lot of docs here mastermind, uh, here kind of a brain trust group. And that can mean a lot of different things, online, offline, combination of both. Uh, let's dive into a little bit of behind the scenes with UAC. Uh, what, how do, how do people typically engage with it?
Okay. Yeah. So I think our number one thing, which I, we haven't even really talked about, is actually our accountability groups. So once you're in UAC, you get into an accountability group, which is amazing. I've actually been with my group for 12 years, which is We meet every Tuesday at 1 o'clock and it's— that's what happens for 12 years. So, and, you know, all of the groups are a little bit different, but it's really all about just growing together and having people to like count on for any rough times that you're going through or anything like that. And so just an amazing aspect of— I really feel like that's one of my favorite pieces of UAC. We have two like pillar events that we do each year. We do move them around a little bit. We're looking to possibly stay a little bit more centralized but we'll, we'll see as, as time goes on. But those bigger events, like, we love to have people come and check those, those events out. And typically there's a little bit of classroom time, maybe 2 or 3 full hours of being in the classroom, but most of it is dinners together, um, pool time together, you know, just a lot of networking opportunities. So many businesses have developed out of UAC. And so that is one thing we want to give that opportunity for those, those connections, um, and businesses to be curated and made, you know, right straight from UAC. So we do have a few bucket list events. Those are kind of random. I know our next one is in Napa, um, and so everybody's going to Napa, uh, and then we've had— I mean, we've done things like the Kentucky Derby, F1, F1 races. Just kind of depends. It depends on what's going on, but, uh, we like to have some really unique experiences as well to add to it. And these Events are always just very high class. It's always a beautiful resort that we stay at and always really fun and cool activities. So it's something you just don't wanna miss.
Yeah, we'll drop a link down below. Absolutely. And how would a doc listening know that they might be a good fit for UAC and how should they find out or connect if they wanna check something out?
Yeah, so I think if you go to the website, there's actually like a form that will, help qualify you. I know one of the biggest things is, I think it's one of the first questions, but you have to be like in a business making over $1 million. So that's, that's really important to understand. Um, but there's, there's a whole thing because there's a lot of core values within our, within UAC that we want to make sure that, you know, we fill the room with those specific type of types of people. So, um, but that questionnaire, as you go through the application, it will, it'll help Help you figure that out right away, you know?
Great. Uh, we'll drop a link down below. So docs listening and watching, if you are interested, if you're not part of a group currently and you are somebody who is growth-minded, values relationships and values connection, I'm gonna encourage you to click on down below, see if UAC is a good fit for you. Uh, Steph, I wanna come back to the top 20. That is, that voting is going to end June 17th. So for docs listening and watching, time is of the essence. It sounds like you have the opportunity really to get in there, select the docs that influence you the most. Maybe they're colleagues, maybe they're friends, maybe they're people you look up to or people that you don't know yet that you would love to know in the future. This is a great opportunity to really put out there who represents you as a chiropractor, who you look up to. And you even have the opportunity to write in whether that chiropractor is sports related, technique related, uh, educational related, philanthropy related. It is all there, or you can write people in. Steph, for the top 20, is this something that's going to be held annually moving forward?
Yeah, that's our goal is like really we would love to recognize, you know, people within the profession making that influence each and every year. And so yeah, that's the plan is to have it as an annual event right around this time of year. So that's, we're excited to do it.
Love it. Anything on the top 20 list that I did not cover that you think is important for docs to know?
No, I think we really covered it. I think the big thing is understanding it's peer-reviewed. Like, this is a peer-voted thing. So chiropractors are voting for chiropractors. If you don't mind, I'd love to ask you, like, who's your, who's your most influential chiropractor? Who do you look up to, Jeff? Like, being on the top 20 list is a really big deal. So I just like think that's so cool. But I love to hear what, you know, when I actually just did some podcasts for, for UAC with some of our top 20, and I just love to hear like Who's influenced you? Who's inspired you to be such an influence and powerhouse within this profession?
You know, that is a— that's a good question. So I'm going to— I'm going to draw out some names right now of people that come to mind, top of mind. One I think is indirectly would be Greg Rose over at Titleist Performance Institute, TPI. I just really respect what he's built over there and how he's integrated what I consider to be chiropractic at a global level within a billion-dollar brand and company, I think is really, really cool and really, really respectable. Another one that comes to mind is, you know, somebody that you know very well as well, and, you know, one of my closest friends is, uh, Dr. Stephen Franson. I just, you know, I really like the way that he gets out there, that he approaches things, how he thinks about things. And I think that, um, I, I think that he's a real gem in, in terms of what he's offering, um, you know, chiropractic. So I'll go two opposite ends of the spectrum there. One that's in the sports-related performance, hardcore clinical realm, and then I'll go one that's on the coaching realm. But those are two names that come for me. So I'm gonna kick it back to you now. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Who's maybe one or two people, you don't have to name all five, but who's one or two people on your list?
Yeah, I would say for sure Patrick Gentempo. I mean, I, you know, him, he's the person that started UAC. I've always— I mean, from, from time in school, I've always been super inspired by him. His philosophy and the way his brain thinks is just so different. And the obsession that he has for the profession has always been something I've admired and loved. And then I have to say, Jeanne Ohm, you know, like, pediatrics has always been my, like, love within our profession. And so her her work, like her work with ICPA, you know, all the things that she did with Webster Technique and how that is such a way more well-known term within just, you know, all of the pregnancy talk. It's just, I think it's amazing what she's done. And I, I think that I think about my own home births, and that was definitely inspired by her. So, yeah, I'd say she's been a huge influence for me too. So it's always fun to think about those people who have shaped you, you know, and given— helped get you the success that you're getting, you know. And so it's always nice to— that's why I love this, this opportunity of the top 20 is to really appreciate those people and recognize like what they've done for tons of different people. And the fact of it's like, you know, it's that influence that makes a huge difference. How do you feel about being an influencer?
I feel pretty good about it.
I was—
I work hard, I work hard to try to get the best information out there, so it's nice to be appreciated. You know, it definitely is one of those things where, you know, not, not in it for the awards, in it for the work and the process, right? Um, but, uh, and the impact hopefully. Um, but that's, you know, and I think that this is an indication that there is some impact, right? So I think it's a, it's a nice barometer. And I want to give you a fun fact, um, Justin Ohm, uh, was my roommate throughout all of chiropractic school and was the officiant at my wedding. He's still one of my very close friends. We're exclusively close. He officiated my wedding, and I lived with them throughout all the chiropractic school, so I know the entire Ohm family extremely well. That's awesome to hear. So Steph, I really appreciate you taking time out and chatting today. I, I, I think this is a really, really important thing to push forward in the profession, and it gives every chiropractor the voice to say, who are your top people? So having the ability to not only vote for the list that has been curated, but also being able to write those individuals in gives every single chiropractor, regardless of how you approach practice, regardless of how you approach your day-to-day, regardless of how you approach care, it gives you a voice to speak up, to shout out, and to say, hey, here are people that I look to within my profession, which I think is a really important thing and underdone historically within chiropractic. Certainly we can look towards the entertainment industry. They have the Emmys, they have the Oscars, they have a gazillion different awards.
So true.
Yeah. And within chiropractic, it's been very, very few and far between. So I think this is an awesome initiative. I'm going to encourage every doc again listening and watching. We will drop the links down in the show notes. You have until the 17th to please click the link, head over, vote for your docs, write in. And then if you are interested in learning more about UAC, we'll also drop that link there as well. You can check it out. You can see where the events are coming. You can fill out the form and see if UAC would be a great fit for you and vice versa. So, Steph, I really hope you have an awesome day and I appreciate you coming on and chatting today.
Thank you. You too. And let's just keep moving this profession forward.
Let's do it.
