Jennifer Dent offers three steps for reversing a pre-diabetes diagnosis: research what works for you, make a firm commitment to change, and build one habit at a time, focusing on nutrition first. She notes habit formation takes about 66 days and recommends starting with meal-prepping and portion control before adding exercise.

Hi, it's Jennifer Dent, health and success coach, and I'm here with a pretty serious message. The title of this video is I'm Prediabetic, Now What? Now let me just get a couple of things straight. I am not prediabetic, thank God, but I have been talking with women who reach out to me with that diagnosis of My doctor says I'm pre-diabetic, I've got to lose weight, I've got to get healthy, I've got to make some changes. But then the doctor kind of leaves them and just leaves them hanging, and they're not really sure what they should do next. So I wanted to create this video with 3 things that you can do if you get that diagnosis of I'm pre-diabetic. The first thing The most important thing you need to do is have a plan. So like I said, one woman came to me, she said that her doctor told her she was pre-diabetic and basically was like, you need to lose weight. And she told me if I knew how to lose weight, I wouldn't be in this situation right now. So she really needed some more instruction and more direction. So if you get this diagnosis of that, I'm pre-diabetic, You need to have a plan, and there's 3 things that you can do, 3 simple things that you can do to come up with a plan. The first thing is research. So you get this diagnosis, your doctor is like, lose weight, go exercise, change your eating habits, and you're just kind of like, all right, that's a lot of stuff. I don't even know where to start. Do some research, get on Google and just search success stories of how people change their health from being diagnosis of pre-diabetic to losing, or losing that, you know, you know what I mean, losing that diagnosis and getting healthy. So do the research, go online, Google, talk to, ask your doctor if they have any other patients that you can speak with who have reversed this. That's what I was trying to say, reversed the diagnosis of pre-diabetes. Go buy some books. There are plenty of health books that you can go and find out how people have changed their diagnosis of being pre-diabetic. Talk to a holistic health coach like myself, and I can give you some tips and tricks and things that you can do to get started on this plan of changing your diagnosis and of getting healthy. So that's the first thing, is to do the research. And there's plenty of research that you can do, plenty of, plenty of places you can find success stories of how people change their diagnosis. The second thing that you need to do, which is super important, which is decide. Make a decision that you are going to change. Like I said, getting the diagnosis can be scary and you're not really sure where you should when to start, how you should start, what you should do, but you've got to commit to yourself that you are going to make a change for the better. And that doesn't mean, "Oh, I'm gonna commit to eating healthy Monday through Friday," and then on Saturday you just toss it all out the window. You've got to commit to changing your life, because this is serious. The diagnosis of prediabetes is huge, so thank God, first of all, that you received this diagnosis before it actually is diabetes. So make that decision that you're going to change and come up with a plan. The plan is how you're going to change your life. So let me just backtrack real quick. So first thing you're going to do is do the research, find some success stories, see how other people have done it, talk to your doctor, talk to a holistic health coach or other holistic practitioner to figure out what people do. How can I change my life? How can I get rid of this diagnosis of pre-diabetes. Then you're going to decide— step number 2— you're going to decide that you're going to make a change, and you're going to come up with a plan. So the plan does not have to be all, like, all in, like you have to just go out all out and just do everything that you're finding out you're going to— you need to do to change. So, hello Adrian, how are you? Thanks for joining. Um, once you decide, you need to come up with a plan. So the plan could include lots of different things, and you'll probably find this in your research. It's probably going to include eating better, working out, coming up with eating better foods. So you may come up with a whole list of things that you can do to reverse this diagnosis. What you need to do, which is really helpful, and I found this is very helpful, and which is what I always tell my clients, is that you need to focus, focus on one thing in particular. So the focus— you have your plans, you've done the research, you've made the decision, you have your plan, and you have a list of things, everything you should do to change this diagnosis of prediabetes. And now you need to focus on one thing at a time. I've talked about this before, but it takes 66 days on average to change a habit. So if you have a bad habit of eating lots of, I don't know, crappy food, or stopping at McDonald's or Burger King once or twice a week just because it's convenient, it's probably going to take you about 66 days days to break that habit and some, um, really focused intention on your part. So you have your plan and just for example, some of the things that you may come up that might be on your plan that you need to do is exercise, eat better foods, uh, and just basically lose some weight. So that's great. Those are 3 really big things that you need to break down now into smaller chunks. So let's look at eating better food first. So that might just be, oh, stay away from McDonald's and Burger King, even Chick-fil-A, stay away from it. So that means meal prepping, cooking your meals at home, and cooking all of your food at home. That also could include buying organic food, so you're reducing the toxic load from the foods you're consuming into your body. So eating better food, buying organic, cooking at home, prepping your meals, doing a little bit— spending a little bit of time portioning your meals so you're eating a regularly portioned meal of like 400, 500, 600 calories versus 800, 900, 1,000 calorie meals. So the next thing you just— that's the first thing you want to focus on is, is for the first 66 days is to work on your food. And then maybe the next thing on your list is to exercise. So you're like, all right, I've got this whole 66 Days Later, I've got this whole meal prep thing down. On Sunday, I'm in the kitchen, I'm killing it, I'm spending 3 hours, I have all of my meals for the week, and it's great. I'm eating really healthy, and this is wonderful. So day 67, all right, I'm gonna start with my next goal, the next step on my plan, my get out of the pre-diabetic diagnosis plan is to exercise. So what does that mean for you? Specifically, that could mean finding a workout that you like, buying some cool workout gear, buying sneakers, finding a gym that you wanna join, or maybe even hiring a personal trainer to really get in there and just like do it. It could just be as simple as finding time on your schedule to actually work out. So breaking that big chunk, that big goal of exercise into smaller things and focusing on one thing at a time can really accelerate your, your performance. So that's just an example of what you can do if you've gotten that diagnosis of having prediabetes. So let's just recap really quickly before I go. Is the first thing that you need to do is research and understand your diagnosis, understand what other people have done, successful people have done to reverse this diagnosis of prediabetes. The next thing you need to do is decide So make a decision that you're gonna come up with a plan to change. And the third thing you need to do is, once you have that plan, is focus on one thing at a time. You're trying— if you're trying to split your focus into 3 different things at one time, chances are that you're going to fail at all of them. Focus is key. You have time, so don't try to push everything at one time. Focus on one thing at a time for 66 days, and I promise you, you will master that one healthy habit. And so I'd like to invite you to join my personal account— accountability group called the Stop Dieting Forever accountability group.
