Hey everyone, Jennifer Dent, your health and success coach here, reporting live from the home office. And today I wanted to talk to you about your career and is your career making you fat? I know it's like a very interesting topic to talk about and hopefully it caught your attention, but it's a really serious issue and the reason why I wanted to talk about this today in particular is because we sometimes underestimate the amount of stress in our life and how that can affect our health. So when I say, is your career, is your job making you fat? If it's something that you don't like to do, if it's something that you hate to do, if it's something that you are getting up every morning and going to a place where you're just constantly had that negative wheel turning in your head about, um, what you don't want to do, or how you can't stand these people, or you're just stressed out when you go to work, and it's hard to— for you to even see the benefit and the bright side of going to work. That chronic stress will have a negative impact on your health. And of course, when you're at work, you're usually around those sweet treats, the vending machine, the leftover pizza in the break room, the donuts sitting out on somebody's desk or leftover from a meeting. So when you're under stress, it's really, really easy to walk by and grab a donut, grab a piece of pizza. When you're under stress, all of your mental faculties are going towards fighting that stress, so you don't have anything left over to just say no to the cupcakes, no to the cookies, no to the mini Snickers that are sitting on somebody's desk in a candy bowl. So one of the reasons why I wanted to talk to you today is this is your— something that you may not even think about when you're dealing with your health. You may be so focused on trying to eat the right things and get in your exercise, but if your work life— if you're— if you have no work-life balance and your work is just completely stressing you out, that chronic stress can cause the weight to just stick to you like glue. So, interesting thing, um, with one of my clients most recently, um, I'm a holistic health coach, and so I don't just look at what you're eating. I look at everything that is going on in your life. And this one particular client that I had was in a career that she had been in for years, and it was just miserable there, just not happy. Having issues with her management, and it just wasn't a good place for her to be anymore. So instead of focusing on, "All right, pass up those french fries and eat a kale salad," you know, we wanted to— I wanted to work with her on this big issue that was like huge in her life. You spend most of your waking hours at work, so if you're not happy in your work environment, that could be a problem. So, we went through, and you can take notes because this is something you may want to do if you find yourself in the same place. We went through a series of exercises to help her get to a different place mentally about what she was thinking about her career. So, the first thing I had her do was to think about her dream job, right? So, what did that entail? And sometimes we're so focused on like, "Well, let me search on LinkedIn," or, "Let me search on Monster.com and find that perfect job description." But sometimes the job isn't already created. We've got to create it in our minds first sometimes, and then the universe will pull things together and have that job appear magically out of nowhere. So, going on with this client, the first thing we— I had her do was, "Alright, let's think about all of the things that you don't like to do at your current job. All of the things that you don't like about your current job." She wrote a list out. And then the opposite, on the opposite side of the page, we're like, okay, so what are the things that you do like about your job? What are the things that you do want to experience, uh, when you go into your new job? And first it was, you know, very like tactical things, like, oh, I want a flexible schedule, I want more money, um, I want to be able to work close to home so I don't have a long commute. And all those things are great, but the next thing that I was like, let's take it a little bit deeper. How do you want to feel when you walk into your new environment? How do you want to interact with your coworkers in your new job environment? How do you want to dress when you go into your new job environment? And so we went through that exercise, we went back and forth, she wrote it down, and I told her to get super, super descriptive. And it's difficult for a lot of people, right? Because we can't visualize what we haven't already seen. So she would send me a copy and I'm like, "Okay, I need you to change this," and send it back to her and she would like, "Oh, okay," and rewrite it and write it like more descriptive, more powerful. And so I told her once we got it down, like, "Okay, this is it. Like, this is making you feel good. I can feel it. I need you to look at it every day in the morning and at night, at least in the morning and at night, and while you're at work, while you're in the middle of like, 'Oh my gosh, I can't believe I'm here right now. Pull out your description of what your dream job is, and review it, and put yourself in that happy place, and just kind of daydream about what it would be like to just love, love, love your job, and love your paycheck, and love the environment that you're going to. So, long story short, we worked on that, we worked on a couple of other things that were hindering her career progress and her confidence, Most recently, she sent me an email, and she had a job interview, and it went really well. In fact, it wasn't really an interview. It was like, "Okay, we looked at your resume. We think you're perfect for the job. When can you start?" She was blown away. I kind of wasn't, because I knew something like that would happen. Then we were waiting. She got the job offer, but she didn't get the money yet that she wanted, so we were waiting until they made her an official offer. Offer. And she recently got her official offer, and she got the job and the money increase that she wanted, and she got the job that she was desiring, and it's everything that she wrote down on her initial list. Now, she manifested that super fast, like in a couple of weeks, and it's quite possible that that can happen for you. So if you're in a place where you feel like you are stuck in a job rut and you feel like it's the stress of your job that's affecting your health, you can't really focus on eating healthy, you feel like you're just always stressed out, you're always thinking about work, you're always thinking about everything that is just not right with your career, this is something that will help you for sure. So get out your pen, get out your paper, think about one, all of the things that you don't like about your job. All of the things that you don't like about what you're doing right now, and then write the opposite, all of the things that you love, or the opposite statement of the things that you hate. And then get super descriptive and write, I mean, I like to say just write a story, write a story, but put yourself as a main character of how you want to feel in this new ideal dream job with the money that you're getting. Imagine that direct deposit coming into your account, Think about, you know, the wonderful teamwork or team environment that you have, the flexible schedule that you'll have, whatever your wish list is for your job. Create that and write that story, and then that's what you focus on. Focus, focus, focus. And then, you know, look for a new job. Start telling people you're looking. Get online and network and submit your resume to different places and just see what unfolds. See what happens. See what opens up. So, just a little tip if you feel like your job could be making you fat. I hope you enjoyed that.
