When you don't feel like working out, do these 3 things

Jennifer Dent shares three ways to push through workout resistance: schedule sessions in advance with specific exercises, lay out clothes the night before as a visual trigger, and use recorded affirmations and energizing music to shift your mindset before you start.

Hey, hey, hey everyone! I want to talk to you today. I am Jennifer Dent, your health and success coach, and I have a confession to make. I don't always like to work out. Yes, I do eventually enjoy my workouts when they're done, but some mornings I wake up and I'm like, mm, I'd rather just stay in the bed. So I wanted to share with you what I do, and actually I had to do this yesterday and today, to help me get in the mode of working out. So again, my name is Jennifer Dent. I am a health and success coach, and I have 3 tips for you of how you can get in the mode to work out. Alright, I've got my note cards here. The first one is to schedule, and actually listen because the third one is actually the most important one. The first one is schedule your workout time in your calendar the day before or the week before. So at the beginning of the week on Sundays usually, I plan out my morning. You can actually see a peek at my calendar if you go to my blog, JenniferDent.com. It was the last blog post I wrote and I gave you all a peek of how I schedule my week. Um, but schedule that workout time in your calendar in the morning. So if you know you're going to go to spin class and spin class is 45 minutes, you got to put in travel time to get to spin class, you got to put in time to get dressed to go to spin class. So that 45-minute class may actually take an hour and a half or 2 hours. So make sure you schedule your time and your workout so one, no other interruptions can happen because it's in your calendar. Also, you need to decide what kind of workout you're gonna do. So one day, you know, you may have a workout schedule, or one day you like work on legs, or another day you do cardio and you do running. So decide the day before what you're gonna do the next day because it helps you mentally get ready for your workout in the morning. Second big tip, which I do every day, at least during the week, is I put out my workout clothes the night before. So every night I pull out my workout clothes because I work out in the morning. If I don't do it in the morning, more than likely it's not going to get done. Pull out my little top, my bottoms, my pants, my socks, and you know, you know where I put them? I put them in the bathroom. Yes, on the tub. So when I get up in the morning to go to the bathroom, my workout clothes are right there. So, I automatically put on my workout clothes and that kind of, sort of motivates me. But other days I need a little bit more motivation. So, this is the big tip, number 3, of how I really, really get myself in the mode to work out. And I have affirmations that I say specifically for working out and being healthy. And I recorded myself saying these affirmations. And it really, really does kind of instill and help me get in the mode to work out. This morning I was really struggling because I was tired. I had a long week and I had on my workout clothes and I was just like sitting there not doing anything. So my plan was to do my, uh, circuit training in the basement, but I was like not doing anything. So I turned on my affirmations. I have this really cool app called Subliminator. You can record your own voice, record your own affirmations, and I played them, and I have a bunch, and I'll share with you some of them. And I had to repeat it over and over and over again. So let me see, I wrote them down for you. Um, my body is getting stronger, slimmer, and healthier every day. I enjoy my daily workouts and they make me feel energetic. I am strong. My body is burning fat and building muscle. I am leaner and fitter. Those are some of the affirmations that I say. I have about 10, but I didn't even say them myself. I had to listen to myself say them and after a while I was like, you know what? I'm about to get it done. Done. So I went downstairs, turned on my music, cranked it up, and I got my workout in, and I felt fabulous when I was done. But sometimes you have to encourage yourself to make it happen. You can't always depend on willpower or good intentions to get that workout in. So I hope those 3 tips were helpful. I will repeat them again in summary. So 1, schedule your workout time on your calendar and decide what your workout's gonna be. And if you need an example of that, I have— I blogged about it on JenniferDent.com, so you can check it out, my last blog. You can see a peek into my morning schedule for the week. Number 2, put out your workout clothes the night before in a place where you will see them and actually put them on. So that always helps you start to like get in the mode of working out. And 3, turn on your workout affirmations. And get it done. I hope you found those tips helpful. Jennifer Dent, health and success coach, signing off.
