Jeremy Newsome and Brittany Faith Turner explore wellness tourism and private equity, discussing how aging populations reshape business transitions. They cover luxury's future, AI's effect on jobs, and why retreats matter for human connection.
Opportunity never goes away. It only switches places. In this next episode, Jeremy, Alexander Newsom and myself are going to share what do we see the opportunity going towards and how are we investing accordingly? See you there.
Everyone's been waiting for this episode. This is the one probably they likely skipped ahead all the other ones to get to this one.
Dropping in like it's hot.
All right. Uncertainty, markets, huge shift, global. Meltdown.
Tariffs.
It's all happening. People are scared. There's fear. It's palpable right now. But here's my question to you. Where's the opportunity, Brittany? What is Brittany Faith Turner investing in right now?
I love studying movements, not trends. Trends come and go. A little whimsical, fun PR highlights. as they come and go. And I never put a bunch of money into what's trending. What is the movement? What is the soul of the person I'm wanting to work with interested in and why? So we watched in our lifetime that minimalism became a thing. People want freedom. People don't want to be tied down. People want to be able to have their home actually be an asset. Our generation thinks so differently about the workplace. And now after COVID between the workplace difference and watching a lot of people die from something as simple seeming as a common cold, people are very, very interested in health and longevity. We've been talking about the silver tsunami that's coming. You wanted to define that really quick. What is the silver tsunami for people?
Yeah, so right now we have 50,000 baby boomers Retiring every day.
Every day in America alone? Just the US.
Just the US.
Just the US. That's a lot of people. And these people have businesses, they have resources, and they want their health at a totally different level. And so really cool marrying for me of what I do, which is create transformative spaces through real estate investing.
Legend.
Yes, thank you. and arming people to be a force for good in the world. My next step is helping people remove dis-ease from their life and find healing from within. It starts with peace. It starts with purpose. It starts with that solid foundation. But there are actually treatments and habits and a new way to live that people are super hungry for. And so I've been weaving in A lot of these practices, I like to test things into what the island has currently with our existing infrastructure. And we just won second year in a row, Forbes number one wellness resort in the Caribbean. Two years in a row. So excited. That's such a big deal. We don't even apply for these things. I get a Google notification that we won it again.
Hey haters.
So cool.
Back to back.
Back to back. Not about you haters, but it's been nice winning. It feels good to win. It feels nice to win. A lot of people said we were crazy.
It wasn't going to work.
You know, when you say you're a wellness resort, there's such a spectrum of what that means. And we've been bringing wellness in a way that people have never done it before, because again, it's soul healing.
I'm going to ask you a question. Yes, I'm going to ask you a question. In episode seven of Season Six, you mentioned two words, and I'm going to say those words, and I want you to tell the story of these two words. You said the word peace and you said the word answer. Do you know where I'm going with that?
No.
You were asked a question where that was the answer.
Oh, yes.
Tell us about that, because I think that ties in really well to us winning back to back awards.
Well, you know, we just talked about in the last episode how painful it was to get this island going. 2020 with a global economic pandemic.
Got kicked right in the face.
Lockdown borders. But earlier this year, I was invited to Dubai. as a key speaker on the future of luxury. So it's called Ultra, and it was all of the leaders in travel and tourism speaking about what is the future of luxury. And there was only eight speakers total, and it was on panels, like two different panels. And I was one of the main ones. And it was really interesting. So I'm in Dubai, which was so cool. Of course, it was. Oh my gosh. As a developer, the fact they've built that and now it's been 51 or two years.
Wild.
Unbelievable feat for a developer.
Amazing.
Again, my style of development, very different in like the nature east parts, but I appreciate it. It was very cool. Anyway, so I'm in Dubai in this 1.6 billion dollar hotel stage with all these people in the audience that represents these like sultans and kings and the royal family here and the royal family there. And I'm like the least pretentious person in the world. And I was a little uncomfortable because everybody has this hoity-toity like vision of luxury and it's me. But they asked me how I defined and am projecting the future of luxury to go. And it just hit me like a ton of bricks. The future of luxury is peace. And how do we help people find that? Because it is the thing that money can't buy, but you can curate experiences that help people truly find themselves, which is what we've done. on the island. It is a sacred place for people to really find. Find the God in them with the way in which we help you heal from the inside out with our food, reconnects you back to Nature, to where you see and experience God in everything. And then the activities again help you get out of your mind and into your heart. And you do it all having a blast. It's not some woo-woo weird, sad place. Like, it's beautiful and it's fun and it's exciting to step into the next level of your greatness, so. I've been practicing helping people not just heal their heart, their soul, their relationships, their finances, but also their bodies at the next level. And so to be implementing these new treatments, it's really interesting because they change their science like every day. But to be able to just be a place that creates case studies and tests new ways of living and new ways of doing things that can help people live longer and live better and more impactfully, that is what we're doing now. So I'm investing in healing centers. I'm investing in wellness tourism, and we are expanding the footprint of what the aerial BVI will be the aerial more places.
Oh, shoot.
And I can't wait to talk more about that. And in a future episode, we might even talk about plant medicine.
I think we should.
Not happening at the aerial BVI, but we will talk about that. And how am I seeing it showing up? and changing the lives of our heroes and transforming perspectives of people that have been very near and dear to me. So we can talk about that later. What about you, sir? How are you investing?
I love that word, wellness tourism.
Yes, big deal.
That's really awesome. You know, for me, I think one of the interesting aspects of investing is something called PE. It's called private equity. So I've been spending all of my life, essentially my adult career, on public equity, public equity being market stocks that are currently publicly traded. But private equity is ownerships of companies that aren't in the market. And those are where really, really astronomical returns and opportunities can be made. So you mentioned earlier, we have 50,000 people retiring every day, but those baby boomers, a lot of them have businesses. and a lot of them don't really have anyone to give it to. And they want to retire. They want to travel the world in an RV or on a cruise ship and not work. They've worked so long and they're ready to retire and relax. And they don't feel like they have enough money to do so and they get stressed. And their number one fear is running out of money in retirement. And that's probably most people's fear, is outliving their money. Right. whether your money disappears, now what do you have to do? What do you do with $0? So in this situation, one of the things I'm focusing on is how can I invest into companies that are, to your point, working on impact, working on alignment, working on growth, working on opportunities, working on health, working on healing. One of my bigger investments that I made in the last two years after we recorded season three, In season three, we talked about drinking is the new smoking. And we mentioned that it's actually kind of interesting how we nailed that one.
Nailed it.
So many beverage companies started coming out.
Oh my gosh.
You've seen them, right?
Oh yeah.
All over the place. And I invested into one of those.
Smart.
Yeah.
And it's doing amazing. And a lot of the companies that are, for example, there's a small soda company called Poppy. and they're focusing on like the gut health and they have low sugar and it's really delicious drink. They just sold their brand to Pepsi for like 2.3 billion.
Oh, Pepsi doesn't change it.
Probably, they probably will, hopefully they don't. But to that point, private equity is gonna be a big one. These companies and these businesses that both are either being given away, they're being sold at discounts, or someone just needs to run them, there's been a lot of opportunity there for all of our listeners. all around the world though, this is happening. So it's not just in the United States of America. We call 'em baby boomers here in the US, but the population of the whole globe is aging. And the largest demographic on this earth right now is an individual above the age of 47.
Wow.
Yeah.
So that guess what is going to sound mean, but we're just speaking truth. Guess what that demographic's not great at. Typically, tell me. Technology. So you take your little young buck energy, you're, you know, all of the fire you've got to take a business to the next level.
Yeah.
You can fulfill their dream of giving that business a good home and a continued life.
Yeah.
But you can also probably create multiples by adding new technology, AI, better web presence to those businesses. That's actually something I did buying C slash D. Class apartment complexes. One of the biggest things I would do to create value was rebrand their website. People would always keep the name. I'm like, why would you keep this crap name that's stupid? And it has 0.5 stars. Let's get a new name and have a new opportunity to create some new reviews as we're taking the property to the next level. But yes, just creating a not 1986 website.
Right.
And some better, like just the website change and attracts better clientele, which creates a multiple. And there's the bottom line. So much opportunity in absorbing these businesses, giving them offers. A lot of times the kid doesn't want to take over that business, but the person that that's also their kid is their business. They don't want to see that thing die. So don't go cut their legs off or do anything weird. But if you can make good offers, knowing you can scale those businesses through technology that's available to us today that's second nature to most of us, there's a lot of money to be made.
There is, and you nailed it. I mean, I think having these opportunities and being able to help them out I think you brought up a great point, right? The businesses that these individuals, again, all across the world are now getting into this retirement age where they don't want to work, but they created and they raised this kid, this 20 year business, and they don't want it to just disappear.
I love their kid.
They also want to travel and they also want to be free and they want to stop working. So there is an opportunity there. Now, one of the things that has stuck with me the most from season one, two, three, four, five, now we're in season six. was when you told me what Richard Branson told you, which is if you want to become a billionaire, one of the best ways to do it is take something that works in America and bring it to another country.
Any successful company in the US, take it overseas.
Yeah.
And so saying that to say, think about that as you're doing this with these businesses that you can renovate, that you can rehab all these private equity businesses as you're renovating those, Do those exist in other countries?
Right.
And if the answer is no, maybe think about figuring out a way to shift it into other places as well.
I think India might want an Uber. Whoever took Uber to India and called it something else. Whoever took Airbnb to Italy. All these ideas are gonna resist it, but then you can showcase studies of where it works in America. I actually did that all the time. I'd go to California. and look at all these futuristic, cool ideas. And then I'd take them back to Nashville. And when people would argue with me, either investors or bankers, I would be able to show them real data of where it's working and why, you know, things like bringing cell phones to regions are gonna work. People are gonna like cell phones. There's just things that make life easier that are gonna be adopted no matter what nation they are. Right.
And that is going to be a massive opportunity for so many people. Also to the point of the renovation the innovation of businesses, the remodeling of websites, the changing of names, the rebranding. Do you think if you're good at that, you can do that in other countries with different languages?
Right?
Of course you can. And AI and technology, to my point, is gonna make things faster and cheaper and easier.
Oh my gosh, yeah.
And it's gonna be such an amazing, radical shift. The whole world's gonna be so wildly different, almost unrecognizable in five years. Five years. So for those people who are listening, these opportunities exist for you now. Don't wait 17 more months.
No, you can't. And that's the power of AI. You will have a lot of people's skills replaced unless you are the opportunity creator.
Yes, this is the time.
AI is still up here. But in this physical world, how do you become the door opener, the connector of the dots, the visionary, and a lot of other people's really amazing skills are going to be replaced. I mean, they're talking about this universal income, you know, where humans are just handed money to exist and they don't work anymore.
They don't have to.
And all the jobs are taken by AI.
And robots.
I don't know how they're gonna come up with how much each person gets, but that is something you have to know is coming. It's definitely gonna happen. And so how are you gonna continue to make more than the minimum? Have purpose in your life, solve global issues. There's all kind of fun stuff that's gonna come with that.
Yeah, and I think to your point, the wellness tourism aspect, one of the businesses that I love the most and enjoy the most are connecting with others, like bringing people into retreats and retreat spaces. Like that's all, that's going to continue to blow up. So if we're talking about real estate for a hot second, one of the things that I'm also going to be investing into and building into are not only retreat based Airbnbs or like housing.
Or- you- should learn that from the island.
That's right. But also RV parks, because we did an RV tour for a month and a half, two years ago, and it was awesome. But I also noticed most of these RV parks kind of suck.
They're kind of gross.
They're run down, showers are ugly, everything is dated, everything's kind of like, kind of gross. There's no outdoor gym equipment. There's no saunas, there's no cold plunges.
And you got spoiled quick on that.
I did. I got spoiled.
So having- Saltwater infinity edge pools.
Yeah, that's why we need, we need more of these. Having those opportunities that exist here and having people that can travel and experience the opportunity to have very, very easily accessible wellness, have retreats, have human connection. This is something that's never going to go away, but will become even more important with AI and robots taking over in five years is the human element, the human connection, the skin to skin, eye to eye, the face to face opportunities for elevation, for transcendence, for new awareness, for new thoughts, for new creation. That's going to be a huge, huge thing.
Yeah, we've seen our, I've absolutely. I think you nailed it. We've seen our Retreats just blow up. We're getting to waiting list status because people want something real. Yeah, they want something authentic, and they. They leave forever changed. Obviously, it depends on who's putting the retreat on. Yeah, but, I mean, ours always sell out. Ours always. One of those weird things. Seriously, people. People leave with something real. And that's something they say all the time, is I'm so tired of the computer. This is. I've changed more in five days than I have in seven years because of this immersive human environment where I'm actually feeling the sun on my face, swimming in crystal clear water, and I've got my mind open at a totally different level, ready to receive because of all of these other elements. And so I absolutely believe in that. And that's one of the reasons we continue to do these retreats and together is witnessing the life change, but also knowing the less human the world gets, the more, at least deep down, humans will crave an authentic experience.
Yes. And so for everyone listening out there, there's tons of opportunities there. So many ways to dive into the rejuvenation of the human soul.
Yes, I love that. And I think we should talk about that a little bit more in our next episode.
Let's do it. So you heard for the first time ever in Season five that your boy is running for president of the United States of America. I cannot think of a greater honor or better way to serve this country than to do just that. That is my service and that's how I'm going to change the landscape of this world. But I'm going to need your help. I have launched a podcast called Solving America's Problems because solutions are needed. We have the greatest country in the world and we have the greatest challenges in the way To create change is to create solutions. I need to find out what those are.
