30 Apr 2021 · 17 min
Brittany Faith Turner and Jeremy Newsome discuss reprogramming your mindset through daily practices. They walk through an exercise: write your dream, list the limiting beliefs holding you back, burn them symbolically, then rewrite them as limitless beliefs. Small one-degree shifts compound over time.

In this episode, you're going to understand we're giving you a fitness plan for the mind. And if you do these little tiny micro adjustments every day, you're going to wake up in one year with a completely reprogrammed mind that you designed to actually serve your life so you can be where you want to be, versus limiting everything that you're called to with negative mindsets, bad habits, bad people, all the things you don't feel like you deserve. No, drop it. It's time for reprogramming. It's time to pick that. That's what you're gonna learn in this episode.
Brittany Faith Turner. I love you. It's my confession. What? You're phenomenal.
Love you, too.
This is so good. This is already bringing me, like, I have notes. I know we have. We're supposed to be reading from these, but I'm scribbling all over it, so are you. And I like that.
I'm drawing heart pie charts.
Heart pie charts, Genius. The only charts you should ever have anywhere. So smart mindset of woke. Why did we go with that term broke to woke?
We want to define woke very clearly, too.
Sure.
There's all kind of definitions of woke.
There's a lot.
How do you define woke?
Oh, my definition is being truly etherically, emotionally, and spiritually awakened.
Say that five times fast. Yeah, I completely agree. Completely agree. And that's what we're trying to get to.
Yeah, absolutely. Because in this journey that we all have that's being awakened is you're no longer asleep. You know, you start to see things. And you said it earlier today. We were speaking to someone and you said, we're just saying all this stuff, but we feel like everyone knows it. I live in a world where I truly do. I feel like everyone knows the stuff that we know. And then I'll sit down with someone, they're like, really? You can do that?
Women can do that.
What? I mean, I'm still shocked by that. But. No, but really, it's just like, wow, that's so cool. And it makes me feel excited because I have the opportunity to share with someone else something they didn't know. Because if you can give a gift to somebody, sometimes that gift can be a piece of knowledge that will never leave them again for their entire lives. But they get to teach someone else. That person can teach them, and it can be a family member that can create generational wealth and abilities and capabilities. It's phenomenal.
I wish so badly I could go back and, like, teach myself all this crap I almost like the thought goes through my head. I could just punch myself in the face back in the day for believing this. Just dumb stuff. So many limits on what's possible or how hard things have to be, or this or this. And truly, I'd say 90% of the time it's either lack of education in learning the things you want to learn about. Again, I didn't go to any kind of. I have no formal education besides high school and below, but taking the time to pour into the things you want to grow in and lack of network. So our survival brain, which we've talked about this a little bit before, is going to tell us if people don't like you, you will get kicked out of the village and be eaten by dinosaurs.
A pterodactyl will maul you.
You're going to die. So when you get rejected by people and or they say something to warn you, oh, you shouldn't because blah, blah, blah, blah, then your brain chemically tells you you will die.
Yeah.
And it's hard when it comes from, like, people you love and people close to you who on paper are supposed to be supportive, like a family member, blah, blah, blah. But the best advice I've gotten, I wish I could give myself earlier is to only listen to people you want to be like and in that specific area. So if you have the best marriage in the world, but you have a horrible diet and you've got all these diseases, but you can't give it up. I'm not gonna take your fitness advice, but I'm not gonna discount the human being. That's something that most people do. So you gotta wake up in this piece of your life. Guys, do not quantify people as good, bad. Because as soon as you find out anything you don't like about them or anything they're not perfect in, you'll discount the human when you have so much you could gain from them? Yes, everybody has. Everybody is just a beautiful universe wrapped in skin. And there's so much you can gain from them if you look for it. But not everybody's good at everything. So how can you pick and choose who you listen to for all the different pieces of your life that you want to grow in, knowing that eventually you'll exceed anything they tell you anyway.
Mm.
Beautiful universe wrapped in skin. Oh, my gosh. Phenomenal. Like, that's the definition of woke. Yeah, that's it, realistically. Because think about God's creation and you're sitting there with the powers of the universe inside of you, having the ability to do whatever you want and being afraid because of a belief, an idea or a limiting belief that you have. What was one of your limiting beliefs? Because in this summit that we have, this dream summit, we have to write down some of our beliefs. What was just one that.
Oh my gosh, I have so many. I'll jump into that one second. But really quickly, when it comes back to humans, let's just be logical. Do you think any human being or like the regular human being can see the full picture of the future and everything that's gonna happen?
Let me think about that. No, no, no.
So if all I've ever known about you, Jeremy Alexander Newsom, is the bit we've interacted and I can look at your past so I can try to make predictions, but I don't know that you're going to be on Tony Robbins stage tomorrow, speaking, and all these people are going to do this and that and you make new partnerships. And I can't predict because I don't know if you're going to be on somebody else's stage or if a hurricane is going to hit your house and you lose everything. So no one knows the future. Therefore, why the are we ever taking anybody's advice on our potential? Our potential is determined by ourselves and our focus and what we choose to continue to grow in. No person can possibly know. So therefore, the future belongs to God. You've got to get that direction from him. You've got to get that direction and clarity by taking the time to be centered and picking. Stop just flopping around based on, oh, this person thinks I can or can't. I remember I had this huge group of haters, this like, group of construction guys that used to meet every week to try to destroy me. They'd like attack my houses and do all this weird stuff. And I remember finding out about it later and I was like, where were you when I met that little girl that was sexually abused? And I realized I could have been her. She, as an infant was so horribly sexually abused that she could no longer speak. And I woke up in that moment to decide to become more than just a person that barely makes it through life. I want to be able to provide for myself, my family, people I love. And I want to be able to make it to where.
Kids are no longer sex toy in people's lives. And that's not accepted. That was socially acceptable in this community. I wanted to be able to figure that out. How do I actually shift that perception in an entire culture? And I saw this group of competitors or whatever, taking their time to meet with each other to destroy me. And I'm like, where were you? Why does my future have anything to do with you? I'm not even gonna remember your name. I can tell you I don't remember their names. You're investing all this energy to take me down and I'm not giving you that place. So anyway, limiting beliefs. I actually didn't realize how many limiting beliefs I had until I got to spend time with your wife. She teach her own courses, which are phenomenal. And you've all got to go through them because they're life changing. I went through one called. It was the dreams course. I had to go through it twice. I'm like, oh my gosh. She says, all right, pick a dream. And I'm like, I'm the friggin champion of dreams. I'm the champion of picking goals and like getting clear. And like I've taught this for years because I know how to do it for myself, blah blah blah. And so I was like, I'm probably not gonna learn anything. Sure. So I go through this course and I pick a dream. And she said, now write down all your limiting beliefs around this goal. And until you actually challenge yourself to do that exercise, you don't realize you had it.
Yeah.
So one of mine was to create financial education programs that help people go from poverty to wealth. And it sounds good, right? Sounds cool.
Sounds like a great dream.
That's a good one. Yeah, it's in my eulogy. I can do this.
So what's hold you back from it, Brittany?
I wrote, I wrote seven. You're only supposed to write three on all the deep rooted issues. On how I actually didn't feel worthy enough to tell anybody how to do anything at all. Why? Because I wasn't perfect. And oh, this is an effed up one. If I became too wealthy, no one's ever going. No man can handle that. Because men become insecure. If you're wealthy, I don't want to marry some rich dude cause he's probably gonna be a jerk. And if I'm too openly wealthy, every guy's gonna be so intimidated by me that I'll never have a family. And that's a really important thing to me. So therefore find a way to self sabotage. Yeah, or attract all this negative crap to where you keep losing it and you have a good excuse.
Do you know how deep that is?
Man, I can't believe I'm sharing this publicly.
I mean that is episode seven, so.
God. Yeah. And it's so messed up. And you're like, whoa, where did this junk come from? So, beautiful thing about this exercise your wife teaches is you have an opportunity to go, ariel, like I said, pull yourself out of the situation and look at those and say, man, you crazy.
What?
Where did this come from? Then you can actually identify. Okay, well, that came from some weird guy from my church when I was seven. Like, or my parent or book I read or some weird YouTube video or movie. Yeah, absolutely. Why is this in my subconscious? Why do I actually believe that for real? To where I see how I'm limiting myself. And I would have never let that dream come true.
Yeah.
So you observe it and you go burn all those limiting beliefs because something weird about burning. I don't know how it works. Just do it. And then you rewrite them. What are my limitless beliefs?
There we go.
How do I choose what I want to think? What beliefs will serve my calling and my gift to the world? You think it would be valuable if I got over that.
Right? If I actually created programs, probably with you, that took people from completely impoverished to wealthy all over the world. Do you think that would be valuable? Generationally?
Absolutely.
So I got to do the exercise.
Yes.
You have to take the time. I didn't even know those beliefs were there.
Mm.
Do it, people.
Mm. It's a must. And we're gonna be spending here in just a few days, five full days on an island, Me, you, and a select few of other phenomenal, gorgeous human beings just getting together and just pouring it out and just finding out what those things are. And here's the craziest part is little ones will pop up again, right? They just. The tiniest ones, and you. They're like weeds. Like, you keep. You gotta just pull them out. Yeah. Because new ones will grow and they'll be smaller each time, generally. And they won't hold you back as much because earlier you mentioned. Why are we going to listen to people that tell us we can't? Why do we listen to people?
That's not even logical.
Exactly. Like, why. Why am I listening to these people? It's you most of the time, right? You're that person most of the time. Because when you dream, right? And you're afraid because you're not wearing pants on stage or you're peeing yourself in front of your high school or whatever, like, all these random subconscious dreams that you have, they're like semi nightmares. You're afraid or whatever. That's that deep, deep stuff that's buried in there. Those are the Things that you have to kind of slowly pull out over time, address them. Whoa. Didn't know that was there. Why is it there? Where did I get it from? Let's change that. Let's make that tiny, tiny alteration. So step one is, like you mentioned, having that dream. Write it down, Coming up with something profound and amazing and wow, this is incredible. This is what I want to do.
Pull a sentence out of your eulogy.
Yep, exactly. And then. Ready for this? Shocker, guys. If you haven't done it yet, it's because you're afraid. So now let's find out those limiting beliefs and those fears that you have around those things, because otherwise it wouldn't be a dream because you already done it. So, like, obviously you're afraid of something.
Something's going wrong every time.
It's okay. Why make sure that you know it is okay that you haven't achieved that thing yet, that you haven't received that thing yet, that it hasn't happened to your life yet. Because God's just trying to figure out how hard you're gonna work for it. What are you gonna do? Right? Are you gonna put in that type of time, that intentionality of. Actually, you said this twice. Writing it down. Because a lot of people go, oh, that's my idea. My brain. We're good there.
So annoying.
It's good right here. Why? Yeah, right here. I'm gonna type it out. Bro, can you just please use a pen? Like, once in your life? You know, use a pen, write it down, take the brain waves and make it real. Because that's when things become more concrete. Yeah. It's not writing. It's that ability. And that's. And that's the shapes of what begins to crystallize in your mind when you're. When you're talking about being woke. That's what happens. That's generally what happens, is because now you are removing. We talked about. You like the term the weeds, right? From the garden of your heart. You're removing these so that new things can bloom. Whatever it might be.
Be.
Could be flowers or plants or some other type of tree or some type of beautiful thing. When you're removing that, you are given space for something else. And that's the effort. That's hard. That's what's difficult to do. But we must. We have to. We have a calling to do it. Because if you want to be that guy on that beach who doesn't do anything other than surf, fine. Surf a lot and mooch off people.
No.
And figure out how Exactly. Instead of mooching off of society and other people. How you can transform what you think is a passion into someone that can truly pour into betterment of the world, whatever that is. Because it can be a talent. It can be cooking, sewing, whatever it is, hair styling, all of it. Doesn't matter. Makeup. Right. It can be anything. Just figure out how you can pour into tons of value, into countless people. You'll really do something amazing for the world. You'll leave a legacy. You will leave a lasting footprint.
That's the question. What do you want your story to be? Well, she went to work every day, put in the minimum and watched TV every evening. She really loved the Bachelorette.
Right?
She loved it.
She watched every season, every episode, was faithful. She voted on everyone to all of these.
She was a.
She collected the roses.
Get out of here. Can't even keep it together.
What's your story? Yep, it's so interesting. You have to tell these stories the rest of your life.
Sometimes I'm like, yeah, that's a really weird route to have to go about it, Brittany, that you have to tell that way. But that was the series of events that I created. So every day you're writing that story. How can you wake up and just be like, if I just was present to this or if I just made sure I did this. Little things not putting more on your plate. We're putting focus on your plate. That's all. It's not more. It's a tiny shift. Yeah, just a little. Like Jeremy keeps saying, just a little micro tweak. But let's look at this. If you are going straight and you change by one degree, where are you gonna end up?
Whatever trajectory where you end up in X amount of years, 40 years, it's gonna be totally different place. Even by one degree, how do you add that one degree towards where you want to go every day? One degree activity, one more phone call to the right person, one text to encourage the people you love. One little five minute workout. One different piece of cheese or bread on your plate. Those little micro actions are the difference between basic and great.
Ability to give versus constantly taking. Yeah, you know, it just always adds up. And I don't know if we recognize our investment of time and what it's really going to return for us over time.
Yeah, you gave me this one as a layup, so I just have to take it. You said one more. One more episode. Do you guys think you can stay tuned for one more? Let's keep learning together how to be broke to woke boom.
