S2 E06 - The Root of all Evil? Or the Solve...
4 May 2021 · 18 min
Jeremy Newsome and Brittany Turner argue that wealth creation funds large-scale impact: disaster relief, entrepreneurship training in Honduras, and anti-trafficking rescue missions. They discuss sustainable giving by donating only investment returns, and designing your life intentionally to free time and resources for service.

My dear friends, we all have a responsibility on the other side of your choices and your actions that you make or do not make today could be someone's life that you're saving with the money that you're able to create. We want you to create that money. We want you to become wealthy. Why you should and how you can. We're going to talk about that in this episode.
Foreign.
We're back. We have another one. Yet another spellbinding, mentally liberating episode. Why do we want people to be wealthy? Brittany, why do you want people to be wealthy?
Because more wealthy people who are good will literally help end the worst things on the planet. People say a lot of times like, oh, rich people are bad. How much crime is happening in these wealthy neighborhoods. A lot of poverty, a lot of crimes. A lot of these issues are because of desperation. And if we can create hand up programs and more economies and more opportunities, the less people have to sell their kids, for example. That's one of the things that I'm most passionate about, is ending human trafficking. Well, how do you end it? I mean, there's so many different channels of what I think is the worst thing on the planet. I mean, I just can't. I can't fathom the kind of stuff that I've heard happens from these evil people. But a lot of these evil people are people's parents. If you had nine kids and all of them are going to die, including you and your wife, but you had to sell one to feed everybody else for the next however long because there's zero other opportunities, like, would you do it? It's the worst. It's the worst thing that some people are put in, in a situation for. So I think that the more good people we can make wealthy, the more the world can be an incredible and beautiful place where opportunity abounds, joy can abound, happiness can abound, and desperation starts to go away. Why do you think people need to be wealthy, Jeremy?
I feel there are more good loving, beautiful, generous human beings than evil. And there are perpetually bad people, without question. But I think the ratio is drastically skewed. Drastically. And I feel like there's a huge portion of not only America, but other countries and I just haven't lived in those countries. But there has to be just droves of people that don't know their potential.
Because.
Because I'm always just so intrigued, like, what could 60% of this population do with all the mental resources they need and all the mental resources they need and financial and just every aspect that they need, they have it. What could they do? Because what have I done? I've done the smallest things. I mean, you. You've done smallest things. But we're impacting. Those are actually changes in people's lives. Do you want to tell people about your Honduras trip that you just, I mean, worked so much tirelessly effort with? I mean you had so many people there that are massively impacted.
Several Honduras trips, several. You know, we have started aerial recovery group and that is a team of special forces military who are just out and we've repurposed them to being able to be these highly effective teams that respond to disasters. And then we have now, I think several hundred volunteers and that's something. If you're listening to this and you want to volunteer, like sign up, we'd love to train you, take you on these trips and we pair these special forces, different people and volunteers to go into places that nobody else can even get into. You know, in a couple days I'll actually be, you know, swimming through alligator infested waters to get supply and aid to people that have nothing. I lost everything in the two hurricanes this past year. So I was able to fund that entire first mission. Because I funded that mission, it didn't hurt my family. I actually funded it because my stock account, thanks to real life trading and Jeremy Alexander Newsom, the greatest coach ever, my stock account was crushing it. And so I took a portion of that and said, hey Jeremy, because of you, I'm gonna fund this entire mission. That mission has turned into four missions. And I think by next month over $100,000 of food has gone to people who lost everything and are still living in tents and shacks and like have nothing, lost family members. So it's so beautiful that we created wealth by learning from you. I created wealth that was able to support people that can never really thank me. They can never do anything for me. And I think that's one of the highest levels love is to be able to serve and give and create opportunities. So one of the other things we're doing now is an entrepreneurship program for all these people to be able to, you know, when that, when these businesses washed away, how can they start new businesses? How can they actually become better and stronger financially and build all these little startups in their community so they can feed their families on their own? You know, there's only so long you can do the handouts after disasters. You definitely have to do it. But then how do you get people back on their feet? And that's been one of the greatest things about being wealthy is to be.
Able to do that.
Fund whatever you want. It's so much fun to be able to give and just serve. I don't know. That's what makes me feel amazing.
I mean, there's so many missions out there. I mean, a vast, endless supply of opportunities and people that you can impact and nations that you can impact and human beings that you can truly pour into.
An example, slight tangent, but there's a term out there in the stock market world called fear of missing out. And a lot of people always have.
Just in the stock market?
Yeah, it's just in the stock market. It's nowhere else. But, you know, fear of missing out. I have all these opportunities I miss out on, but there's even a bigger one where people are really stressed out about is, like, leaving money on the table. They're like, oh, there's so much more I could do, you know, like, I could have done. I could have made this amount, but I only made this.
Wait, that's not just me.
No, no, it's. It's so many, right? It's so many. Because, like, we'll have this belief and we'll have this number and like, oh, man, this could have happened. But now I'm here and this is. This has occurred. But when you take a step back and you go, wait a minute, this is how much you have done. This is how much you have earned or created or generated. And when you're able to take that real number and you can go, this is something that you can truly impact with now, immediately it starts to shift perspectives. Because when people are worried about leaving money on the table, I'm like, well, take all the money that you left on the table then, and give it to this mission, right? Pour into it. Find an organization. Find someone like underground railroad that you can give heartlessly, generously, abundantly, because they're so phenomenal and that just have a passion and such a great caring attitude to save actual human beings from sex slavery.
They were just hanging out with them this week, the leadership team, and Tim Ballard was just here. And what a hero. I have not been this messed up in a while, and it's a. It's a good messed up.
Yeah, you were kind of wrecked, but in a good way.
I had to stop every day and just walk in another room and just cry because the stories of what people have gone through and the torture that people have experienced and to know there's people out there laughing at the kind of stories I heard, just honestly, I just Want to go kill them all. You know, it's a natural reaction. Just go destroy all these bad guys. But how did these kids get into those situations?
And I know that by living as an example of what's possible. And for women to know how there are other means to making it in life versus selling your body and, or even like being a sex, sex object is super important to me. And I think that's, that's my. One of my forms of prevention is to, to try to say we can be more than just beautiful. You know, society tries to say that's one of the most valuable reasons women are great. And it's. We are more than that. We're smart, we're good leaders, we're good in business. Apply us to anything and take our ability to have multiple channel thinking and all these different things going on and apply that to these new industries and see what happens. And that's what's been fun of taking that and applying it to construction. But these guys are going in and doing rescue operations and rescuing, you know, newborns and 6 month olds and 10 year olds and adults from the worst possible lives that we can't even fathom.
Yeah.
And I'm able to help them with my business experience and helping to guide them to being even more effective. So it's been really cool how God's let that happen. But also being able to fund them sting operations are like 18 grand. Would you fund 18, 18 grand if you knew kids were gonna be saved from this horrible nightmare of a life?
Absolutely easy.
No question asked. You know, it can happen. So those are the kinds of things that 18 grand is the difference between a child being set free or not. How many 18 grands would you want to put in there? Yeah. It's insane.
Yeah.
So it's just amazing to be able to have people out there that are willing to do that. And if you're building wealth and the ripple effect of what you've done or what you've funded literally changes or saves lives, changes generations. It's just amazing. So I love them. I love building wealth for purpose. And it's not just to give away. In my wealth building, I've learned some really incredible things about how to create these sustainable organizations and how to like make them be able to last the ups and the downs. And I was able to apply that in coaching different nonprofits throughout my life. That's one of my give backs, is giving back my knowledge. How many times have you coached people for free and helped them build wealth and they went and changed the world with it.
Countless. Yeah, yeah. They were taking that gift and give it to their team, give it to their employees, give it to their employers, give it to their family, give it to their unit. Right. Working a lot with the military now, having that ability to know that, hey, this is a gift that you can use forever. And let's say, for example, you're on this team or you're part of this mission and you have some money in savings, you, too, have the ability to grow it. Right. Or create blocks of chunks of $18,000 here and $18,000 there. Because really, once you know the tools, once you know the knowledge. And in essence, the reason we're bringing this up is so that when people are looking at an opportunity and they are trying to determine, should I do this or not, you are having the ability of locking in a guaranteed, let's say, $20,000 on whatever. Is it a trade? Is it a market opportunity, Real estate, a business proposition? I can lock this in and then use that money to someone who absolutely needs it. Do you now feel as bad that you left some money on the table? Because it's always gonna happen.
Yeah.
It's like. But I'm able to take this money and actually transfer it into something that's so legitimately, logistically easy.
Such an interesting strategy. Yeah, it is.
Yeah.
I have a friend who has lent me a million dollars for however many years on different projects, and I'm just using theoretical numbers. Instead of taking all that money back and spending it on a car or whatever. That's her 1 million DOL. 100% of all those proceeds, like, just the profit goes to funding these different nonprofits that she really cares about, ending, abuse, all the stuff that she cares. And instead of just donating that million dollars and having nonprofit tear through that as fast as, you know, they will, she donates those profits and can. For how long?
I mean, forever. Perpetually.
Yeah, forever. She never lost the seed. So that's another really cool, creative thing that you guys can do, is take a portion of your money and whatever that money makes you give away, I can literally, literally become your giving channel.
Mm. Without question. And again, that'll help. That mindset will help in any market, in any commerce that you're creating is take some money that you've made from wherever. Right. And grow it. Let it compound over time, and then just give all the proceeds away so you can continually have, as you call it, that seed, the ability to grow that tree of abundance. Because in the book, money grows on Trees, you have your Root structure.
Who's that author?
Oh, man. Jeremy Newsom. It's a really good book. And again, it gives people the ability to see that we can grow the tree however we want. Money is the root of all evils. Absolutely true. It's the root. It's the root system. So if you want to be evil, you have to love money.
Have to. Right. But you can also love money and all that it provides, because all it does, like we've been talking about, is amplify who you are and being able to give to some incredible project and program and company and organization like Underground Railroad. Right. Being able to partner with Tim. I mean, seeing that man in person.
Oh, my gosh.
Every time he spoke, everyone listens. Right. When he was speaking words out of his mouth, no one else was talking because we wouldn't hear what this guy has to say.
He's just seen things that no one should have to see. And he's still so passionate. I just loved encountering a person who's walking in their purpose at the level he is. It doesn't mean he hasn't been beat up. Doesn't mean he hasn't been through hell. He has. But he continues to prevail because that could have been him. That could have been his daughter, that could have been his son. I could have. Blah, blah, blah. It was just so interesting being around him because he said, instead of like, oh, nope, we're limited to the Caribbean. We're going to set up all of our, like, systems and our relationships. Da, da, da. He goes. There's nowhere we won't go.
Because every child is worth it. Every human is worth it. There's 2 million children sex slaves right now. Just sex slaves. 2 million, just children. Not including adults. There's four times the adults.
And so if we gotta deal with this.
Yeah.
And it's gonna take money, it's gonna take time, it's gonna take energy, and it's gonna take amazingly brave warriors to go out there and be willing to put their lives on the line to save the one, to save the thousand, to whatever.
Yeah.
So I just. I love being able to support incredible human beings that are willing to stand in the gap. Like. And how can we do that?
Yes.
You know, how can you do that? Doesn't mean you've got to have a rescue operation that you're doing yourself. But how can you use your pain and turn it into a purpose? Not that you are, like, weirdly manipulating your pain, but you're saying, what did I use? What did I do to Overcome that pain. And how can I gift that to someone else? How can I help them get through that pain a little faster? Instead of walking through the fire, they can run or take the exit door on the left.
Yeah.
You know, it's right there. So I think that's, again, the purpose of this podcast. There's so many ways you can give back and there's. It's unlimited when you have time, freedom. I met so many people when I was 18 years old. I actually helped people get out of debt. This weird little business I was part of called United First Financial, and it went. Definitely went out in 2007 because it would help people use their, like, equity in their house to pay off their debt and blah, blah, blah. But with that, I got to interview amazing person after amazing person. I knew them all from church, but I interviewed doctors, lawyers, rich people in my mind, and they were the ultimate slaves. I could never, ever stop working just to pay the minimums.
Yeah.
Because they qualified for so much. You can't go on that trip. Can't just pick up and go to Honduras. You can't even use your skills if you had to. You can't even take off for your family's funeral.
Right.
You can't. Which means you're a slave in that way. You know, I'm not going to. I'm not going to dramatically use the word slave. Sex slavery is a real slavery.
Yes.
You know, it is today's slavery, and it's way worse than anything, you know, but how can you make everything in your life serve you, serve your purpose, work for you, not you work for it to where the work of your hands is your gift, is your creativity, is your expression of love.
Yeah. And it comes down to. We talked about it, intentionality, taking the time, the steps, the energy to design your lifestyle, to design what that looks like in the future. And that is why we want people to be wealthy. If you're listening to this, we want you to be wealthy. If you're watching this, we want you to be as wealthy as possible and have all of your friends, all of your network, all of your circle, be extremely and famously and abundantly wealthy. So you can pour in and help. So what we're going to do is we're going to design that. We're going to continue designing that. We're going to give you some very, very tactical and practical steps in the very next episode.
Stay tuned. This one's so, so good.
Oh, my gosh, you're doing amazing.
