Welcome back to Broke to Woke season five. In this first episode, you're gonna hear what J. Money Newsom has been up to over the last year and how him and Svetlana deal with their rage and disappointment. Stay tuned.
Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, friends and family from around the entire world, and most importantly, Lithuania, we are back for season five of Broke to Woke, keeping the name because haters be our motivators.
We had it first.
We had it first.
We were here first.
Our mission and goal is to pour into every single one of our listeners in a really deep way. To give impact, to give enlightenment, to give direction, and in this season, to elevate. Yes, elevate your mind, your body, your spirit, your finances, your relationship. We've talked about whole body success, whole life success before in the past. We want to catch all of you up on everything that both Brittany and myself have done over the last year, the things we've accomplished, but most importantly, those listeners, we are here for you. We're going to continue to be here for you. Brittany, you did not throw up this morning.
Oh, my gosh. It's a Christmas miracle.
What's going on with this?
For those who don't know, last season I was dealing with the most horrendous. They call it morning sickness, but this was like a life sickness for me. I threw up 30 to 60 times a day, every day. But specifically during our last recordings, I was throwing up over 200 times a day. But by God, we still did it. And the last season was calm, called surrender. Like, that's really the theme of what we would. We would call everything that we talked about. And this one is elevate. Because there are seasons of your life that you will have to surrender. You are taking your knees, you are throwing up. You're not feeling great. You are bringing something beautiful into the world, but it doesn't necessarily feel good. And so we are really excited about this season because I'm not throwing up. We are here to bring some more amazing insights and magic and to help elevate your life.
And we say we're here. This is a fun spot. We've done all kinds of different locations. We're in the Peace Teepee.
We're in the Peace Teepee. One of my favorite properties in the whole world. It's the cutest Airbnb and is the most peaceful and happy place on the planet.
Yeah, it is. It's a nice spot. Nashville's premier Airbnb. You know, this is where everyone comes.
It's an A frame. It's the best. 1969. A frame. You can't beat it.
Can't beat those good old A frames.
I wanted this house for 10 years. I wrote the sellers a letter every quarter for 10 years. And they kept telling me, now we're never going to sell it. And then they finally called me back. We're like, we listed the house. I was like before calling me, I don't care what you're asking. I don't care what the condition is. I'm buying it now. Thankfully, even though I overpaid when I bought it, it has since worked out for me and the area has continued to appreciate. But it is, it's turned out to be a good investment.
Good. Yeah. Are we. Are we talking about real estate in this season?
You know, we're going to continue talking about strategies for investing because no matter what you want to do with your life, if you're going to be a force for good, if you're going to be able to be a blessing to the world in any way, shape or form, you're going to need some finances, you're going to need some resources, and you're going to need influence to do it. And that is really what this podcast is about, is going from broke to not being able to really help that many other people, to being so awakened to your calling that you become an unstoppable force for good. And that's what W.O.W.E. stands for for us. And so with that, what happened in your life over the last year, J Money, because you've got some pretty big news that you are going to be announcing. And how can the viewers become even more awakened by listening to what you've accomplished in the last year?
A lot of things. Yeah, a lot of things. We got a new baby on the way.
Hey, hey. Little boy.
Little boy.
House of men. House of men for the divine queen.
Yeah.
I love it.
A bunch of set calls us the smelly man tribe.
Poor girl.
Yeah. So she's by herself. The only lady. There's a bunch of dudes, sweaty dudes, eating all the food in the house. Jason is amazing. He's two and a half now, so we can communicate, which is so cool.
Is it weird that a little mini you. I mean, he has copy paste you.
Yeah.
Is talking to you. Do you feel like you're talking to yourself?
No, I don't.
You don't?
No, I don't feel like I'm talking to myself. I. I just know that there's so much of me in him and he is already.
So perceptive. Of everything that I do and say, yeah. And it's the cutest thing in the world. When I'll go do push ups or something, he'll come next to me and try to do a push up.
Oh, my gosh.
And it's the best.
Do you lose your mind?
Yes. My bear crawl. When I go running, he does everything I do. Svet will say like, hey, go show daddy what daddy looks like. And then he'll run and find a pull up bar which is like a closet. Yeah, it's in our closet.
Are you kidding me?
He'll hang. It's the cutest thing.
I can't.
So I love spending time with him and I'm very, very happy that I can communicate with him. That was one of my biggest frustrations. Zero to nine months was when he was so upset I didn't know he was upset about. Yeah, I couldn't find out and what that did. And we'll talk about that in later episodes. But just the parental journey for me and obviously for you and learning how to be a parent for the first time in my life and interacting with a toddler and learning all the things that I need to heal internally. To be a better dad.
Yeah.
To be a better husband. To be a better father. Whoa. There was a lot there. So we have a new one on the way. Current name. I mean, it could change.
Yeah.
We still got three months.
You're allowed.
I'm allowed to make changes. But right now we're going with Jarumi.
New name alert.
Hit the button. Jarumi Maximus Newsome.
Oh, man.
Yeah.
Ain't a strong name. I don't know what is. Except for my kid's name.
Yeah.
Where did Jeromey come from? They better be. Except for your upcoming news.
We were. We were actually. I was joking. This was a joke. This name technically was a joke. I just want everyone to learn. I threw this out as there's no way my wife's going to say yes to this one. But I kind of liked it. So it's J E R R duh U m I. So Rumi is my favorite poet. I think there's a lot of people who are very familiar with roomie. If you're on Instagram, you do a few scrolls, you're going to see a roomy quote somewhere. And I just. He's impacted my life in such a dramatic way. And the middleman named Maximus, because that's an awesome middle name.
Yeah.
And this. This boy wanted to be here badly because my. My wife essentially made sure that no one even Thought about a boy. We were talking.
She gave me all your boy stuff.
She want. Yeah.
She gave me all of your. Always tough. You're about to spend a little bit more money on that.
Sure. She. She wanted. She just wanted a girl, which was great. And we're like, we're gonna do it the natural way. We're not gonna go and make sure that it's a girl. And all the practice and prep that we put in didn't pan out.
Man. It's probably fun, though.
It was. It was a lot of fun. A lot of practicing, a lot of planning, a lot of prepping was so great. We. We embraced it. It's gonna be so exciting. And he is a boy that really wants to be on this earth for sure. That's a boy soul that's ready to party.
So what tips do you have? Because your wife is incredible and passionate, and I know how bad she was wanting a little girl, and I know she's going to, of course, completely adore and cherish this little boy who is definitely meant to be here. But emotionally, I guess, spiritually, all the things like, what advice do you have for somebody who had their heart set on having a little boy or a little girl and got the opposite gender?
I wish there was a podcast I could listen to for free, you know, about surrendering, because that's what both. We both had to do.
Yeah.
And there is a. There is a process to surrendering where it's not this, I'm gonna do it, I'm a check mark it, and we're good to go. So it's very much an emotional journey. So the emotional journey for her was go to Scotland for a week and cry.
Poor thing.
That was it.
Scotland.
Scotland. I don't know why necessarily she was called to go there, but she looked at. Was one of those, like, there's no way. There is no chance. I was saying no.
Yeah. No.
Even if I had zero dollars, it was like, you can find a way. I would find a way. Yeah.
Find points.
It would. Something would have happened. Points. She. And it wasn't even a question. She was like, jeremy, I need to go to Scotland and just cry for a week.
Yeah.
What week works best for you? Like, that was kind of the way she owns it.
Oh, my gosh.
All right.
Okay.
And so she went. And. But that was. There is a lot of tips there, because, number one, get out of your zone, get out of your element, get out of what you're used to. She hasn't been to Scotland in her whole life, and so that was a brand new place for her. So now she's able to get around the energies of just your day to day environment. And so when you're talking about surrendering, I would tell people when you're faced with something that there's nothing that you can do anything about and everything has been given for you and you're upset about it emotionally, don't bury it. It's okay. Don't shove it down, but go and really release it through whatever release means to you. Is it running far away like your boy Charlie? Right. Running across the Sahara. Right. Is it studying? Is it praying? Is it going to a dark cave for three days or is it going to Scotland and just sitting on a cliff and crying for 12 hours? Whatever it is, do that work, but don't do it around the people.
Yeah.
That know you really well.
No, it's wise.
Yeah. And that was a great, great experience.
Why do you think? I, I recognize it's wise, but why would you say it's important to do it not around people that you really know?
Because you don't. I, I think in a way, if someone sees you that level of vulnerable, then it kind of changes their perception of who you are maybe, and they start to see you as a real person and then they can know how to like poke you and they can almost use that against you in a way. And I wouldn't say that everyone's going to do that.
Well, they can misconstrue it, but it's almost like they could see her crying as a lack of trust. And it's not. It's mourning an idea that was your idea, not God's or the universe. You know, like this is, this is the way destiny was supposed to unfold, but it's a little different than you experience. And so other people can just be turd sometimes. And I am very big on that. I am huge on vulnerability in a safe environment. And so I think the wisest thing and the best thing for her, for her body, for your family, for those dreams, is understanding that if trauma stays trapped in the body, it can create a whole heap of dysfunction. And so the fact that she, I always tell people, put in the tears, like clock the tears. You can't just get through a divorce. You can't just get through great disappointment or heartbreak by shoving it down. Sometimes you just have to put in the tears. And so the fact she went somewhere and cried for a week, that's amazing. What an amazing foresight to just do it and move on. And then now Celebrate and cherish this little soul who is destined to be here. I love that.
Yeah. And I like how you put it in that this was just our plan. This is what she wanted, but this is what. This wasn't destiny. And that's okay. Is that going to happen in life? Yeah.
Yeah.
As in, like, all the time.
And you're going to feel like, oh, you're wrong and you shouldn't trust your judgment. But that's not true. When you stay in a place of surrender, you understand the way in which you're filtering life is great. But when there is a higher power directing these things and you stay surrendered, it's going to be better than your plan. Still might suck for a minute, though.
Yeah. Yeah. Yes. It still might have a little bit of pain, but there's so many examples of that in history where the hero has to go through those crucibles to really prove that, wait, I am the hero. But not prove it to God. Prove it to themselves generally. Right. Joan of Arc being a great example. And I think for me, in that moment.
It was so funny. She said, I don't even want a gender reveal party, because if it turns out a boy, I'm just going to collapse in front of everybody.
Oh, no. At least she knew.
She knew.
At least she knew.
But, ladies, be courageous enough at some point to share your deep emotions with your man as well. And for my men out there, there's a time and a place to be the aggressive bully, Viking maniac warrior guy. And then there's also time not to be that, because that would have been a time where I could have been very mean about the whole situation. Could have. Didn't. Chose not to.
Good choice.
Yeah, good choice.
Don't be.
Don't be. Right. I want a reveal party. Could have. Because I knew how much it meant to her and also how it would impact her negatively if there's 100 people there and we have reveal party and it's a boy and she really wanted a girl, and she would just start crying because she can't hold her emotions like that.
Well, I mean, the last party was just so well done. Whoever threw that freedom.
It was a really good party.
You know, the bar is like the.
Shooting of the so high.
All right, so your future son Jeroumi, Working title.
Yep.
Is gonna listen to this.
Yeah.
What do you want to tell him.
Dude, thank you for healing your mother.
Oh, no.
And she will say the exact same thing. Like, what a gift. Because she has this I am right type of mentality. I can Control everything. Right. Women love that. Women love control. Men love control, safety, reason, of course. But when you get given the gift of you're not in control at all, everything is happening for you if you want it to, or to you if you wanted to. And this was a four. This is a four gift. Um, and so thank you. Yeah. Jeremy, thank you for healing your mother. Thank you for giving me another perfect son.
Yeah.
So excited.
I can't wait to meet you and be Bear's best friend.
Yeah.
It's gonna be wonderful.
It's gonna be a great journey. A lot of other things. My body. So I focus a lot on body. And baby, last year, so my body, I did three full distance triathlons.
Wow.
A half. Ran 100 miles. Did a new, brand new challenge I've never done before. 12 by 12 by 12. 12 miles every 12 hours for 12 days.
In a speedo.
Not in a speedo. Oh, thank goodness for all the passerbys.
That would have been all different next year.
Whoa, boy. 288 total miles.
That's crazy.
Yeah. And then right after that, that's when I did the 100 miles.
What did your feet look like?
Ugly. Real ugly.
Was that sweet picture you sent me was after the hundred miles? Because I was wondering what it was like after the 12.
12.
12. But.
Oh, that wasn't that bad. 100 miles was the bad one.
Okay. I'm not gonna lie. When I. When you. You sent me that video, it looked like a corpse.
Yeah. The whole. Because it was muddy and rainy during 100 mile race. So the entire bottom of my foot, both feet were soggy. So like, like, you know, you're being in a pool for 12 hours or whatever. 20 minutes, you know, your fingertips.
Yeah.
But now just imagine that with your feet and running on. And so all the skin on my feet washed back and forth and so the whole foot was a blister.
Are they still peeling?
Yeah.
Yeah.
I'll show you after this.
Remember that 70 mile hike I did?
Yeah.
For my old special forces group. My feet peeled for like six months.
Yeah.
Because they were underwater the whole time.
It was so you kind of know.
Yeah. In boots. Just slapping it, Slapping it up.
So painful.
But what did you learn from this 100 mile? Tell me a couple of the quick and dirty. I could talk to you for nine years about this, but tell me.
Sure.
What did you learn from doing 100 miler after training like that?
You ready for this one?
I'm ready.
Some people pay a lot of money for a mud bath.
Yeah.
I chose to be there.
Yes.
And I picked that thing for me. And there's perceptions and perspectives of all size. So a lot of people are like, oh, this guy is crazy. I was going through a really, really tough business breakup. I was going through relationship struggle, and I needed to pull out that Viking and get really angry for a while again. Svet went and cried. I don't cry. Like, I'm not gonna. I can't sit in a room and just cry my fears away or my tears away. It doesn't work for me. I have to run for 25 hours and be in so much pain that some tears come out.
Okay.
And what? That was so enjoyable. My rage monster went away. Wow. Yeah. I've been so nice. Have you noticed how nice I've been last two months?
What is it that shifts, though? Is it just you got the rage out, or is it that your threshold for pain is just higher now and so you view your current internal pain as less, which is like a higher form of cutting, I guess, which is terrible. But it's a more healthy way to do it.
It's both.
Yeah.
I would say both. Both happen. Both of those happen. You lower your empty tank on your. On your rage so it can fill back up over time. That's fine. But right now it's zero. There's nothing good. There's nothing in there.
That's really beautiful.
Yeah. And then, yeah, you have a bigger, higher level for pain tolerance. So the things are going to come your way just don't affect me anymore. They just don't affect me as much. So that was a huge, huge gift. I was able to finish two books last year. So did the one with our boy.
Two books?
Yeah.
You're crushing me in this.
Thanks. Well, here's the thing, though, Brad. I love writing.
I know. I do, too. I just.
So I got really clear. My wife asked me a couple months ago, like, perfect life, what are you doing all day? Perfect life. And I'm writing a bunch and I'm speaking on stages. Those are my two favorite things.
Love it.
Just writing.
Well, you're really good at both.
Thanks.
So what are the names?
But it makes me really happy. The two books was your story Sells with Les Brown.
Oh, yeah.
Yep. So the boy you connect me with. Right.
Yeah.
You gave me some coaching sessions.
He's kind of good at this.
He's amazing.
That's my present.
He helped me build my story and craft it and teach it and sell it. Right. So him and I co wrote a book together with seven other authors.
Amazing.
And then the very, very first believe it or not, it took me 12 years to write a stock market book. A stock market book.
Why would it take you 12 years? Says the person who hasn't finished her book.
How dare you not finish a book for 12 years, you dummy.
I can't believe it for probably for those reasons where I did a lot of smaller things. I did blogs, did ebooks and all that. But this one's called Master Yourself, Master the Markets.
Yeah.
That's real life training psychology.
Solid cover.
Thank you.
And I'm judging.
Thank you.
So good.
Thank you. And I here's I didn't think I had really mastered myself yet. Oh. And I knew that it had to be something related to psychology. And I feel like I am so dialed in right now.
I'm so in this next episode, I want to know more about how mastering yourself feels, looks, and on a practical basis, what's the checklist for making that happen? We'll see you in the next episode.
We're talking about it.
Heal the Heroes. It is something that both myself and Brittany are eternally grateful for and extremely passionate about. Because we know the ultimate prize that lays at the end of the of these veterans who become truly healed as they transcend into their calling and they create so much purpose. They save lives. And we would love for you to help us in that mission. Feel free to pop over to broketowoke.com and you'll notice a way to give directly to Arrow recovery and the important mission pillar of Healing the heroes so that you and I can continue to do amazing work in the world by helping others grow in their purpose as well.
