There's no way it's possible to be grateful in life when your head is neck deep in a Puerto Rican toilet, ingesting poop particles, right? Well, Britney says otherwise in this spellbinding episode of Broke to Woke.
Newsome. In our last episode, we talked about mastering yourself, mastering the markets. Your new book, which is sweeping the nation, eventually the world.
The world.
Obviously I'm going to read it. Obviously we're all going to read it.
Well, you're going to listen to the audible when I make it.
That's what I mean, read. That's the only reason I haven't read. Listen to it. Because it's who I am.
Yeah, it's okay.
Sticking to the process that works.
It's going to be really good.
Tell me, what does it take to master yourself?
Per the book, kind of what I wrote in there. If we are made in the image of God.
It'S about finding out what that image looks like.
Digging in as deep as you can into the internal awareness of your composition. Why are you here? Why were you created? Knowing that exactly. Knowing that precisely. And being aware of all of the reasons that come up anyway to stop you and just keep going. That's what it means to me. Because mastering yourself is. Your body is not going to want to do the things that your mind wants you to do. Your body just wants to keep you safe. Your brain was designed to make sure that you stay in your cave under your tarp so there's no rain or sun, and you just stay warm and cuddly and safe from all the bears. That's what your brain wants, your body wants. But you, your core probably want something else. You want experience, you want to travel, you want to go places. Like, there's tons of people that are afraid of flights, tons of people that are afraid of traveling. Because what might happen, Sickness I might get. I might eat food and get poisoned. When you start realizing the reasons that you're holding yourself back and they're generally very valid reasons, and then slowly removing those reasons in that work, that's that work towards mastery.
Wow.
Yeah. Knowing that everything that you think that you actually really believe probably was given to you, and those aren't actually your thoughts, right? Those are just inherited beliefs and never challenging those beliefs and trying to understand why you have those beliefs, it's a fun process.
But your beliefs, your emotions, none of that has nothing to do with the markets, does it?
No, nothing at all.
I mean, the market is the market. Why can't we just robotically trade based on the information we know what. Does your emotions have anything to do with the markets?
Right. Yeah, I know. It's what I. I'll put you like this. What would your emotions have to do with swimming in an ocean? I mean, if you get into an ocean, like, oh, nothing. Well, if you're really, really excited to be in the ocean and you just swim because you're so pumped and you get tired and you engulf too much water and you breathe underwater and you drown because you're so excited, is that a possibility? Or you stay out there too long, don't put it on sunscreen, get really big sunburn. Sunburn leads to problems. You start just diving into things and not even interacting with or even thinking about, what's the reason I should be doing this? Why am I doing this? What's the verbiage? What's the point? In the markets, there's something called trends. So if there's a big trend, everything is bullish, which means it's going higher, it's going up over time, and for some reason your emotional capacity as it needs to go down and you're only playing the opposite side of the direction, which is how a lot of traders lose money, especially newer traders. Newer traders love to look at something that's just going straight down. They're like, whoa, this was a dollar, now it's a penny. What a great deal, right? Versus this was a hundred dollars, now it's now it's 90. But that's probably a better deal than it was a dollar, now it's a penny. So playing the trend that actually is mastery, because it's, it feels very, very counterintuitive to just.
Go with the current movement of everything rather than to fight it. And for me, and what I've noticed and what I've studied is a lot of people, we're going to talk about this in the future. A lot of people are very, very scared when there's another person involved. To go against the status quo, to go against the crowd, to go against the people. But when it's just them, they want to be the lone wolf. Because it feels so good to go against what everyone thinks, what it goes against what everyone does. And there's interesting polaris when this is a good time to do it, when it's the wrong time to do it. So it's a fascinating subject to study and there's been tons and tons of research and I did spend a good three and a half, four years working on that book. So I'm really excited about it.
Wow. Yeah, it's really impressive to understand how much perspective affects everything. Yeah, it's really important to understand how much your perspective. That's really why I named everything in my life Ariel. It's to keep that big picture in mind and not to get lost or taken out by the highs or lows that the world brings you or who loves or hates you today. And we're going to talk, like he said, about betrayal, about backstabbing, about all the fun things that happen when people love to rumor it up.
Yeah.
How do you deal with that? And so that's coming soon.
I know I've asked you this question before. Just remind me, because I think it's. This will be valuable for all of our listeners. What was the exact moment where you said aerial, that word, that term became so powerful.
You're going to think it's so stupid, probably. So I was leaving Lowe's in Charlotte, North Carolina, heading back to my little $140,000 house I bought at 818 years old. Shout out to Lowe's, gonna go get ready to head to the Cheesecake Factory. And I'm at a stoplight. This is how not magical. I'm sitting there and it got lightning bolted into my spirit. And I knew it was like God talking to me somehow at a stoplight. Just.
And I saw it spelled very specifically A E, R, I, A, L. And I was like, I think I know what this means. But I went home and googled it. And it meant to keep that big picture in mind, to exist and create above the rest with an excellence. And another spelling means lion of Judah. So it's a powerful name. And I thought, wow, that's cool. That'll be the name of my first kid. And it was.
That's right. First kid was just a business.
Your businesses are your babies.
Oh, yeah.
It absolutely not your little side hustles, but your real businesses, those are your babies. They take a lot of nurturing. They scream and keep you up at night, don't they? They poop on you.
Yes, they do.
And yet you still love them.
They will throw up all over you.
Yeah. It's an interesting love hate relationship, which is mostly just love.
Yeah.
But the process can be painful.
Yeah. You know, two things that are irrelevant. Lowe's and Cheesecake Factory, both publicly traded.
So, hey, you know, you're all up.
In the stock market. Were you driving a Honda or Toyota at the time?
I was driving a Ford.
Also public trade Ford Mustang. Stock market's all around us, folks. But okay. Another thing I love when you talk about this at our elevate summits on the island, you'll bring this up pretty frequently where you're like, hey, listen, it wasn't this magical, awesome, amazing, oh, this happened so brilliantly.
And bang.
And it was just given to me. Then I turned it on and money came into my account.
There we go.
You mentioned that a lot. Because you want people to realize it's generally done randomly, messily. Just kind of happens. We're like, oh, wait a minute, that's an idea. That's a, that's a thought, That's a vision. I should do that, I should act on that. And a lot of people just write it off. It's like, oh, that's stupid. I shouldn't even have that thought. And I love how you said it was a new car to stoplight. Because a lot of people, they come up with great ideas while they're driving and they forget to write them down. They don't voice memo them, they don't voice note them.
You probably gotta.
You did something where you took that and brained it and then you were able to keep it for the rest of your life and just know, oh, wow, that was a moment and I love that. Thanks for sharing. I'm sure you told me that before.
But I didn't actually name my first company that. I named it Nashville Home Rescue. And then everybody thought it was like a homeless shelter and so.
Oh, you had to go back to the stoplight.
Well, I just thought it needed to be like a we buy houses type name or something like that. So it was not that's cool. The first name in my llc, but it when I wanted to turn into a real brand and a real company that was like, oh, what should I name? And I was like, that word. That was cool. And it was like Little Mermaid. I'm like, no, not Little Mermaid, no, like the flight perspective up here. Understanding God can see every single part of your life. You've got to surrender and trust that there is a divine guidance that you might not understand in the moment, but you are part of something so much bigger than you. So you got to lean on that trust because you gotta lean. Just businesses, not for the faint of heart. Especially if you're gonna be a hyper growth organization or a force for good organization. You're gonna be doing things that have never been done before. And you're gonna have to deal with people who don't understand and are mean to you because they're challenging. You have a different reality and a different vision for the status quo. Not everybody's okay with that. So you gotta drop the peasants.
You know, I would love is someone to help me with a word. This probably word doesn't exist in the English language. Maybe it does. But something that's so easy, I mean, ridiculously easy, that's very hard to accomplish.
Like a business. Businesses are so easy. Like the math is there.
Yeah.
It's very simple.
Yeah.
They're so hard though.
Yeah.
There's so much turmoil and tumultuousness.
It's the humans in the greed. It's the for sure, dude. All the weird things that come out in humans just trying to get something done. You can have that weird stuff come up even when you're trying to just rescue kids. Weird stuff. People are prideful, egotistical, greedy. They want attention. They got this thing going on.
Yeah.
And so it's so important to stay committed to that mission and the why. That's the only way you can get through this stuff.
And you, you alluded to that, talking about every part of your life as being divine and guided. So last year.
What has that divine guiding been for you? Tell us. Some things have popped up in, in your life, Britt.
Well, I had a really crappy year last year, I would say overall, now that's like the feeling of it. If I look at the stats, I still crushed it, which is impressive and awesome. I'm proud of my performance because.
So you made it to the Super Bowl. You just didn't win the Super Bowl.
I don't know. I think I won the super bowl, but I just, I. I don't, I don't know how I would describe it, except for I think women sell you on pregnancy as being this like, magical thing. And all the Instagram videos of them rubbing their belly and swirling around in circles. It looks like it doesn't suck every minute of the day. And I know it doesn't for everybody, but it really did for me. And I'm sharing this because I know the haters out there gonna pick on me and say, at least you could have a kid. I know, I know. And I'm super freaking grateful for my perfect, wonderful, angel baby legend. He's amazing. She's the greatest baby ever.
You looked.
And I'm obsessed with him.
You lucked out.
I really did, honestly. He is, he is kind to me. He is just joyful. His smile can wreck your soul in the best way. Can break any negative thoughts going on with just his little goober slobbery gummy. He's just the bomb. And I love this baby but it doesn't mean the process didn't suck. And I'm sharing it because I want the people who are going through the suck to know. Of course it's worth it. But it's not all magical rainbows. And a lot of things that are worth it are not all magical rainbows. I had like a darkness cloud over my life, feeling that nauseous and actually throwing up that many times. Some people are nauseous for like an hour and take the whole day off. It didn't go away all nine months. And even after I had him.
Having all that and it still, it was the worst. And so I have so much grace and so much love for the women who are still willing to bring life to this planet and still willing to go through that level of sacrifice for.
The next generation and for humanity. Like, it's amazing, but it is not all rainbows and, and flowers and so be kind. Knowing everybody's experience is different. And if that is your experience, I pray you have the perfect dream baby. Like, I did too, because it's a big blessing on the other side. But I'm like, traumatized. I like smell things that I smell during that time and I'm like, like I'm gonna throw up again. It's terrifying to just try to lead your businesses, try to run events, try to be inspired, try to like feel God's presence at all when your body feels so terrible every day. And I cannot believe humans live with long term diseases and sicknesses and they can still be inspiring. I'm amazed. So lots of lessons learned. One of my big commitments after this is really going.
As deep as I can in the next level of education and practice of health and wellness. And that's such a powerful, important thing because when you don't have your health, it's so consuming, at least in my experience. I couldn't think about anything else. Now, thankfully, my businesses still ran and we still found a way to be a force for good rescue kids and do all the amazing things through the nonprofit. But it was incredibly distracting for me personally. My. My vehicle still made a difference, but Brittany Turner was pretty knocked out of the game. That was hard. And so again, how can you stay focused on your mission when your vehicle for the mission, which is your body for you, is completely wrecked? And so again, just committing to that health, committing to that wellness, committing to not waiting until it's too late or eating the junk food now and just, oh, it'll be fine later. No, it won't be. If you can control it, control It Control what you can control. And that's been a really poorly branded word. But, Jen King pill me. Control what you can control, and that's the rest. You surrender. But you are, as an adult, in charge of what you put in your mouth and what you drink. If it's not something good for you, why do you think you're gonna get good results with poor fuel? Why? That's insane. Yeah.
Food is fuel. Right?
Food is fuel. So, anyway, I've never been sick longer than seven days in my life. Thankfully, I've been super blessed, and it's nothing I ever want to go through again.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Well, you said that you got a perfect baby on the other side of it, so obviously it's worth it. You asked me this question. What would you like to say to Bear when he listens to this a few years from now?
Bear, don't ever talk back to me.
Please. Please. I didn't understand, you know, as a kid, I'm like, well, I didn't ask to be here, you know? But, no, now I'm like, I had so much love for Bear. Bear Danger Locke, the best name ever.
Best name, great name.
I have so much love for him. I just really enjoyed, like, watching him grow and kicking me and all these things, and then to just experience him being outside of me and watching every little smirk or new noise and his eyes, the way they're changing, just every single ounce of him to me is like perfection. I am so obsessed with this baby, and I hate that that was the experience to get there. But my. My message to Bear is you are such a gift. You are such a force for good. You are such a blessing to your daddy and me, and I would do it again just to have you if you were the guarantee on the other side, of course I would do it again because you're just everything. And so I do understand why parents say this, and I'm incredibly grateful that I got to go through the experience and that it's over. Yeah. And that it's over.
You know, let me say that for a second, because you can also be. Be happy and be thrilled and be so relieved that it's over.
Yes. That's also not a bad parent. You don't love them any less.
Yeah. Yep.
You're not a bad leader. No.
All the things just over. The bad problem to help get the perfect baby is over.
I want to share one lesson that Ellie shared with me on island, because we were. Gosh, we were in the love summit.
And she's gone through so many Physical issues and surgeries and stuff. And I just sat with her crying. And I said on my way here.
I was in the Puerto Rico airport with my head in the toilet, throwing my guts up and there had to have been a 500 pound person right next to me blowing up the toilet, just blowing it up. And I'm breathing in her poop particles. I'm going and, and breathing in those poop particles as barf is coming out of my mouth. And in that moment I was having a real hard time finding something to be grateful for. And I said, ellie, that's your challenge. Tell me how to be grateful in that moment. And she said, be grateful that you had food in your stomach that you could throw up.
I was like, she found it.
And she said, be grateful for indoor plumbing.
Be grateful you could be flying to your island to even be nauseous from the plane enough to throw off. Like she went on and on. And my point in sharing that is you always have something to be grateful for. Because I could be in a country where I didn't even have food to be able to throw up. Yeah, what a gift.
If it was 300 years ago, would you have died during that pregnancy?
Yeah, I do. I had to be on all the stuff for anti nausea and I still threw up that much. I definitely think I would have died or Bear wouldn't have made it. For sure. For sure.
And we can be grateful for that, right?
Yeah, absolutely. Absolutely. So there's always something to be grateful for. And we have so many more lessons we've learned in the last year. Let's talk about the most powerful awakening for you in the next episode.
It's coming.
