Let's go.
All right, all right, all right. Welcome to the habit based lifestyle podcast. I'm your host, Jesse Yule. And today we're going to be talking about the word vision. So if you guys are here just joining in today, you know, is first month of the year 2024 and I want to talk about the importance of vision. And I really want to break down the, the, the word vision. And not only that, but a verse in the Bible that is Private Proverbs 29, 18, 19, where it talks about the importance of vision in our lives. And the Bible says without vision, where there is no vision, the people perish. And I really want to get into two words. Number one is vision, and number two is going to be perish and what they really mean. And then I want to break it down into context. So number one is I looked up the word vision. So what does it actually, you know, what does it actually, you know, mean or what is the opposite of vision actually mean? And, and it means blind, slightly slight, sightless, I'm sorry, not blind, but sightless and blind. And you know, vision is our ability to see something in the future, okay? And so oftentimes we can replace where it says, you know, where there is no vision, the people perish. We can replace people and we can put different areas in our life. And this was one of the things that I saw as a, as a fitness professional is like, hey, where there is no vision for your body, for your physical health, your body will perish. And so really, you know, the way that I look at this is like, hey, maybe we don't, you know, because, because perish, once we get into that, it actually means to suffer or to have like a death in a sense. But like if we just said, hey, you could become dead in this area or you could lose this area. This is the, the context that I want to put this in. So it's like, hey, if we don't have vision for where we're going, we're going to end up somewhere where we don't want to be. And you can really put any area of your life in there, whether that be your physical health, mental health, spiritual health, relational health, and financial health. And we could break it down even more. Your marriage, your. Your body, you know, your mindset, your. Your relationships, your business even. Hey, if you don't have a vision in your business, eventually your business is probably going to perish. Now, it may not actually like die burn closed down, but it could just be in a place of stagnation, which is almost worse in our marriage. Same thing with our marriage. It's like, hey, if we, if we don't have a vision for where we want to go in our marriage, by default it's going to go exactly where we don't want it to go. And so really, vision is our ability to see something greater than what it is today. And, you know, let's get into the word parish. So perish actually means to suffer, to lose another way. You know, we could say lose is. This place is lost. So if you don't have a vision for an area of your life, by default, you know, you can potentially live someone else's. And so oftentimes we get caught up in other people's visions because we don't have one greater than what someone else's is. And so the default for vision is that we end up living someone else's or we just end up living in mediocrity. And, you know, think about it this way. The cool thing with vision is even though we may lose sight of it or have lost sight of an area at some times, so sometimes we can lose sight of our body by default. We end up putting on weight, we end up becoming unhealthy. The great thing about vision is it can be found again. Your sight can come back again and you can see something greater. Same in our marriage, you know, by. We can lose sight of our vision in our marriage, and by default it ends up in disconnection, maybe lack of intimacy, sex, all these things. But what is great about this is we can actually find that vision again for that area. Even in business, it's easy. It's easier. It's easier to lose sight of our vision than it is to actually set it. And so we have to make sure that we set it and setting it and not hitting Our vision is still more important than not setting or having a vision at all. And so oftentimes, you know, we don't set a vision because we may not think that we can hit it, or we just don't see that there's something greater than what we have today. But I want to challenge you with this especially is because having a vision and still not hitting it is better than not having a vision at all. Because that person who doesn't have one at all by default is going to end up exactly to where they won't don't want to be. And so I want to kind of walk through the three places that we set our vision from. So number one is our past. I heard this saying, and it was the worst way to predict our future is by looking at our past or living in our past. But what I want to say is this is like our past is simply, hey, where have I been in my past? What are the successes I may have had? What are things that maybe kept me from having success? I know for me, if I didn't have a vision for where I wanted to go in the past, that would definitely keep me from where I want to go in the future. So I want to leverage that learning for the future. And so it's, yes, we don't want to live in the past, but I do think that we can say, listen, what are the successes I've had? What are the things that maybe I didn't have success? And how can I leverage that going forward? The other thing is present. Where am I today? Because in order for me to see where I want to go or set a vision of where I want to go, I need contrast of where I actually am today. And this is an important place that I want to begin to understand the process of what it's actually going to take to get there. And then future. What do I actually want the future version of? You know, maybe my health, my body, my marriage, my business, my relationship to God, what do I want my future to look like in each one of those areas? And sitting there getting a vision that's going to require God to be able to hit that. And I think that's an important thing, is sometimes we set a vision so small that it doesn't require us to have God in. In that thing. And so if. If we're creating a vision that depends on God to help it come to fruition, then we're actually creating a vision big enough for where we want to go, but we recognize we can't do it on our Own we need God in order to make that happen. And so setting this vision is the crucial step in setting out your goals for the year and really setting out goals in the future. And I think one of the cool things is, is when we rely on someone else or supernatural power of God to be able to hit that vision, we are much more reliant on being obedient to him and really setting a vision big enough for that. And so I want to challenge you as a listener is like, hey, are you setting a vision big enough or a goal big enough in each area of your life that does require God to actually help you get that? And I think that's a really powerful place to be. But we have to be able to look at the past, leverage that for the present, look at where we presently are so that we can get an idea of like, hey, here's where I want to be in the future in each of these areas of life. And I need to. It requires me and it depends on me to have God help me be able to get this. Whether it's introducing me to, you know, the right mentors, the right people, whether it's, you know, asking God, hey, show me, you know, who I need to meet. Show me who I need to start a relationship, maybe even show me who I need to forgive so that I can begin to move forward in that vision. So with that being said, on the next episode, we're going to talk about the importance of not only having the vision, but having a plan to back it up. And if you guys really think about this vision is where it starts. Planning is the next step in this. And I want to walk you through the step by step process of this. So this is going to be a little bit shorter episode, but it's going to kind of set the framework of what I walk through in this process at the end of 2023 and just setting a clear vision in each area of my life so that I, I can go back to God and say, hey, show me, you know, show me the things that I'm not seeing. Show me, you know, people that I need to have a relationship with. Show me where I need to have more forgiveness so that I can have a clear vision of where you want me to go. So, guys, I want to thank you for joining today. If you have any questions, need any help with anything, feel free to reach out Jesse@habitbaselifestyle.com until next episode. Have a great day.
