Let's go.
All right, all right, all right. Welcome to the Habit based lifestyle Podcast. I'm your host, Jesse Yule. And today we're going to be talking about planning. And today I want to break down planning because on an earlier episode we talked a lot about vision. And I want to push this into taking the bigger vision that you have and then breaking this down into planning. Now, once you've kind of established a vision, a goal, a solid plan of where you want to go, then we're going to be talking about the four specific ways that you can make sure that you execute on that vision. And that really comes with a plan. So first thing we always need, let's just say this bigger picture is we have vision. Which another way to say it is we have goals. Now, vision and goals are going to be very similar, but the big, the big difference and the key difference is I think vision is kind of the bigger picture. Goals are kind of defined metrics or defined, you know, objectives that we want to make sure we hit along the way with our vision. So really, you know, if you think about it, you know, a goal is something very specific that we're going to work towards. It's something that we can actually measure. Hey, did we hit it or did we not hit it? You guys all know, you know, the whole analogy of a smart goal. But what I want you to do is think about how you break down, you know, your vision into goals and then manageable object objectives. And, and when we do this, we can begin to kind of prioritize what we're going to do. And so we take that big goal and then we begin to create a plan or a specific plan. Now, one of the things I wanted to share with is that planning is our highest expression of faith. And the reason why I want to share this with you because, you know, faith is often evidence of the things hoped for but not seen. So if I plan for the things that are hoped for but not seen, that means that I am practicing faith with my goals. I'm practicing faith by creating a plan that says, like, hey, here's my expectation of what I'm going to accomplish. And I think one of the things that goes into faith is that we have an expectation of what we are going to accomplish, and that shows up in the way that we plan things. And so as I talk about this, I want to talk about how planning and faith really go together, and then how that planning is expressed in faith by, you know, the way you create the plan. So by creating a strategic plan and being planned and planning things out, number one is we have to identify three key things. Number one, what is the mindset that I'm going to have to shift? What are the stories, thoughts, behaviors, patterns? What. What mindset shifts do I have to make? What skill set must be developed in order to follow through and hit this goal? And then what habits are going to help me support my plan in making sure that I accomplish those goals? And so, as you walk through this, this is one of the things that we can begin to write down is, hey, what are. What are the mindset shifts? Mindset things I'm going to have to, you know, have breakthrough on, what are the skills that I'm going to have to acquire or develop in order to hit these goals, and what are the habits? And so as we do this, this really allows me to begin to break specific things down, and it allows me to kind of create some action plans and some steps on how I can do this. Now, I also want you to think of it this way. So, number one, we have clear goals and objectives. We also have the strategic plan. The strategic plan are the strategies and tactics, the skill set, the mindset, the habits that we just talked about to make sure that we achieve our goals, then we begin to build a roadmap. Now, the thing I want you to recognize is in. In part of this, we have to anticipate potential challenges. We have to make sure that, you know, when things come up, what are we going to do? So we build a roadmap. We build a blueprint or an action plan. Now think of it this way. If I have the visual of an actual roadmap, then along the way, there's key stops. And let's just say this, your key stops are quarterly, you know, quarterly. If we break down, you know, a year into quarterly, you know, games. Basically what we're saying is like, hey, we have four quarters in a game. And that means that every, you know, 90 days we have kind of a full game of what we're playing. So it's first quarter, second quarter. But with that think of it this way is like the quarterly game that we play is a destination we're trying to get to that's going to get us 25% of the way there. Each phase, so each phase of a 90 day plan is really the next destination we're trying to get to. And then we have areas where we might stay overnight, we might have places where we essentially are, you know, having to fuel up and things like that. And so these would break down into milestones, These would break down into making sure that, you know, someone or we have some type of accountability to measure that we are on the right track. And so if you've ever looked at a blueprint for a house or even a blueprint or road map when you go on vacation, let's say we were traveling from, you know, California to New York. Well, with that map, you know, we can see kind of big picture. And then we can also focus in on, hey, where do we need to get gas, where do we need to fuel up, where do we need to eat? And then we can have someone almost be accountable, have someone help hold us accountable to making sure that we're doing that. And you know, the thing is, is recognize this with, with our vision. You know, our purpose doesn't change, but our plan does. So imagine if there was a storm, imagine if there was a tornado or hurricane. We're not just going to drive through that because that puts us in danger. And so no different than, you know, when we create a roadmap or blueprint, we don't always know exactly what's going to come up, but our purpose is the same. We're trying to get to the same destination, but our plan may need to change. And this is where a lot of people, I think really mess up is they try to change their destination, but they try not. They try to stick to the same plan. And you have to be more flexible with the plan. And you got to stay committed to the destination you're trying to get to. And so with that, you want to make sure that this blueprint and accountability and the plan you have in place, it can be flexible, it can be something that does need to be course corrected, it does need to be changed because variables will come up. Maybe you get a flat tire, maybe something derails you. But as long as you have that blueprint and that map in place, you can begin to shift and do some of the, and get, get back on track. Then we want to make sure that the last piece is that this is all in alignment with what you truly want from your vision, from your goal to your planning. And you want to make sure that you have somebody else in your circle or somebody else that may be helping you stay on track. And I think the biggest thing is, is are we in alignment with our goals? Are we in alignment with our vision? So all of these things should match up from, you know, big picture strategic plan to, you know, hey, I think I should have somebody look at my roadmap and tell me and give me maybe some feedback on, hey, is this in alignment with my goals? Because if my expectation is, is I should be able to make it to a certain destination in 90 days, but it doesn't align with my goals, it doesn't align with what I want. Somebody else should be able to give me a perspective, different perspective on that, to make sure that I'm staying in alignment with my goals and I'm continuing to trust that I'm on the right track and I have somebody else or a few people in my circle that will give me some crucial feedback on what that looks like. So, guys, let's. Let's recap this a little bit. So number one is going to be this. If you are working on, you know, a plan, number one, you got to have clear goals, you got to have clear objectives, and they got to be measurable, they got to be specific, and they got to be achievable. And we have to break them down into increments. Number two is you got to have a strategic plan. The strategic plan is going to break down into three things. Having the right mindset, being able to break through stories, thoughts, beliefs, things that may come up, understanding the skill set that you're going to need to have developed and you're going to need to acquire to pull it off. And then you're going to need to have some habits that are going to support your plan and goals and marry those together, because these are the things that are going to hurt you if you don't have them. And then having some type of roadmap or blueprint that you can actually follow, and then making sure that not only that, but you have someone that's checked your plans, they've checked your blueprint, and they can also help keep you in alignment with where you're going and keep you in alignment with what you said you're committed to. And again, the biggest thing is, is your purpose doesn't change, but your plan does. And to be okay with being flexible with that because oftentimes the way we think we're going to get somewhere is rarely how we actually do it. But we get to the same destination either way and that's the important piece and that we get. This is a journey, right? And we want to learn along the way that, you know, there's crucial steps, but we don't always get to where we want to be exactly the way that we think it's going to happen. It usually happens different, but we still have to choose to be flexible with the planning. So I want to thank you guys for being on the show today.
