All right, guys. Welcome back to the habit based lifestyle podcast. I'm your host, Jesse Yule and today I got a very special guest, Mike Benedict. Mike is, has multiple businesses, lives in Louisiana. Mike, I want to thank you for coming on the show today.
Yeah, definitely.
Hey, can you give our audience, you know, I know you got a lot of businesses, but like maybe just give us a brief introduction on you and the businesses that you have.
Yeah, sure. Thanks for having me, Jesse. We, we service Louisiana, Gulf coast, Mississippi area. We, we specialize in building repairs from spray foam insulation to mold remediation and emergency services.
Awesome, man. So how long have you been doing that?
Ten years.
Okay, cool. And I know we've been working together for, you know, a few months. Prior to working with us, man, what were some of the things that you were doing for marketing for your business?
Marketing was mostly referrals and paid leads through various companies such as like HomeAdvisor and Angie's List.
Okay, cool. And you know, were you happy with the results you're getting or, or just, you know, how did you feel about your marketing?
Yeah, so the leads were, you know, spotty at best. And I wanted to sort of tap into my network of friends, family, Facebook friends, and I, I knew that I was not tapping into that and I knew that there was a better way. So when I saw what you were doing, I reached out and I thought that it would be a good fit for you to help me guide me on how to market to my Facebook friends.
Okay, cool. So you were looking, I mean, really, you're looking for an alternative way to market, you know, to more of your ideal clients and you didn't want to do the traditional stuff that everybody else was doing, Right?
Exactly.
Cool, man. So like, as, you know, as you begin to do this, you know, talk to me a little bit about, you know, how this has been for you as far as like implementing it, you know, and just, and some of the things that maybe you didn't realize, but now you do.
I realize that the, well, as far as implement implementing it, I spend approximately 20 minutes a day on my Facebook profile making a post and also responding to comments and messages and just more or less tapping into the, the friends and friends of other people on, you know, specifically Facebook. You know, so far just doing it, you know, not even a couple months, you know, we've generated over $20,000 in business and we have over a hundred thousand dollars in business quoted.
Okay. So awesome, man.
Everything's going real well with that.
That's awesome. So prior, prior to working with us, you know, had you ever really done much on social media?
No, nothing. Very, very, very little. I'll say. You know, maybe every now and then, you know, do a post a couple times a year, but that's about it.
Okay. And you know, what were maybe some of the, some of the things that came up for you is like, hey, I don't know if this is going to work for me. I don't know if this is going to work for my business. Like what were some of the things you were thinking, you know, when you first started?
Yeah, when I first started, I would ask some questions, you know, like, hey, you know, I, I, you know, is this going to work for a contractor, you know, somebody that does, you know, spray foam insulation and mold remediation? And you assured me that it would. You know, we put together a good entry point, a good entry service to offer. And what's happening from there is the entry point service is, is getting me in the door to sell and offer more of the services that we offer so that it's not confusing. You know, people are beginning to like know and trust me on Facebook and so they see me showing up every day. And then from there, you know, it opens the door to all the products and services that we offer.
Awesome, man. So, you know, talk to me a little bit about, you know, when you go to meet with someone now and they're coming through Facebook, like is the, is it easier to sell them versus maybe someone who you've never met before?
It is easier because I feel like they, they're sort of getting to know me. They look at my profile, they look at, you know, the posts that I'm making, my responses and things of that nature. So like, before I even get out to meet them, they sort of Know me before I know them. So that sense of trust is already built. Therefore, you know, it's a, it's a lot easier to make the sale.
Got it. Okay. What. What are maybe some of the unexpected things that you've. Since you've done our program that you've kind of like saw happen in your business?
There's been a few of them. One, for instance, my brother is actually looking at selling a little small business that he has. And the. One of my posts. Questions that I had put out there, one of the, One of my friends responded back that, you know, he was interested in buying businesses this year was one of his goals. And so when my brother was looking for someone to, you know, sell the business to, I suggested that he reach out to this, this person and actually he told me, confirmed last night that he sold the business to this guy. So.
Wow.
And want. Yeah. So, you know, it's, it's just a, you know, it's a door opener. And since, you know, we, we, we're, you know, very versed in entrepreneurship and all the different businesses that we offer and services that we offer, it's, it's opened up a lot of doors.
That's amazing. So your brother sold his business from some guy that just comment. Ended up commenting on your posts?
Exactly.
Crazy, man. You know, as far as, like, I think a lot of times business owners are like, hey, I don't know what to post, I don't know what, I don't know what to do on social media. How is this for you as far as implementation without really getting into specifics of what you do? But as far as like, implementing the system, how has that been for you? Say on a scale of 1 to 10, being super simple. One is. It's super complicated.
It, it. I would say it's a 9 or a 10 because, you know, you've really helped lay this. This out for me and I appreciate everything that you're doing. So it took a lot of the guessing on what do I post. The hardest part, reason why it Wasn't a solid 10 is because, you know, it's actually sitting there and, and you know, doing, doing the work and making sure that, you know, you're showing up every day and making the posts every day.
Right. No, that's good, man. And let me ask you this, like, what maybe is an unexpected result you've gotten out of the program that you just were like, hey, man, I wasn't really expecting this, but this is amazing.
I would say that that's, that's easy. So I think, you know, I came to you from business and marketing and you know, you're bringing so much more, you know, to me for me, for my, my, my employees, my, my family. You're helping me with, you know, diet plans and, and you know, you suggested several books that I'm reading and it's, it's more than just the business side. It's the, the habits based lifestyle and just, you know, your wealth of knowledge and experience has helped me and personal as well as business.
That's awesome, man. So let me ask you this, like, what do you feel like is kind of the next step for you, man, and what you're capable of doing with this program?
I would say the next step that for me is continue the path that I'm on, showing up every day and eventually hire someone that can help me do the, the everyday tasks. There we go. There's another lead coming through. Hire someone to do the everyday tasks of the posting and the, the comments and things of that nature. I think that that would, you know, I think that's the next step. I know I'm not there quite yet, but I would really like to see that and in the future.
Got it. And you know, let's say there's another contractor kind of service based business. It's like, man, I don't know if this is going to work for my business. Like, what would you say to that person?
I would say give it a try. And I would also say that I trust in you, Jesse. So I, I feel that as if, if you feel like it's not going to work, then it's not going to work. But if, if Jesse says it's going to work and you do the actual work that Jesse says, then it, it'll work.
Nice. That's awesome, man. And what has been kind of the community aspect, you know, coaching calls for you? What do you feel like has been kind of the, you know, game changer for you in that aspect when, you know, maybe those are things you don't really think about on the outside, but now that you're in the community, just seeing that from your perspective.
Yeah, the coaching calls are sometimes unexpected because, you know, I'll sort of, you know, lead, you know, the conversation of where the, all the different things that are going on and, and from there you pick up on what I'm saying and, and if I say something that that's you feel is important for, for me, you're able to stop and say, okay, let's talk about that right now and let's get this. This thing settled. So I think you're. You're honesty and you're being able to be upfront and bold is important because, you know, as a business owner and a, you know, a father leader in the community, you know, I need someone that's, you know, bold and is able to shoot me straight and tell the truth about what they're. What they're seeing and hearing.
Good, man. That's good. That's awesome, man. So, you know, going forward, man, any. Any kind of last. Any last words for somebody that might be listening to this wondering, like, hey, man, I got. I got a business. I'm doing the traditional marketing, but I really want to change it up. Any last words for that person?
The last words I would say is just to put, you know, for them to put their trust in you, Jesse, and you will help lead them down the right path, whatever the path that is. Because what we does, what you help design here is, you know, I know you put some thought into it for sure. And you didn't just say, yeah, we could help you. You were able to put some thought into what we were actually proposing in order to, you know, sort of, again, that. It's that entry point. You know, we want to make sure that. We wanted to make sure that we were. We were getting some action on the, you know, on the. The services that were in the forefront proposing.
Let's talk a little bit about your entry point. So basically, you have, you know, three different companies, right? And you are kind of like, yeah, I want to market all of them, right? And then I was like, well, let's simplify the simplest one to have as your entry point, and then that opens the door to everything else. What has that kind of done for your business in. In the way you think of it.
What it's done for my. My business. And the way I think of confirms what I have always been thinking is that I. I knew sort of what my entry point was. When we did our first call, you sort of confirmed that. You confirmed that entry point and said, hey, this is what we need to. This is what we need to target, and it's working out good.
All right. Awesome, man. And then I think sometimes we. We can make our business really confusing, right? It's like, let's lead with all three of them. And then it kind of dilutes the message versus leading with the one that usually exposes the other and then the other. And so it's almost like by you simplifying your message, you're able to get in front of the right people and then you're able to actually introduce the other things that you do to those same people.
Exactly.
So. Well, that's good, man. Well, hey, I'm super excited, you know, with what you're doing, excited to continue to work with you to, you know, really show what you can do. Let me ask you this, man. Like, what percentage of the program do you think you've implemented, you know, so far? And then, you know, with that is like, dude, how much more room you got for improvement?
I would say I, I've implemented maybe 15.
Okay.
I think that the improvement is, you know, vast. You know, I feel like I'm just getting started.
That's awesome. Well, man, I, I really appreciate you coming on the show today. Thanks so much for being a part of the habit based lifestyle community and looking forward to continue working with you.
Awesome, man. Thank you, Justin.
