Welcome back to the Habit based lifestyle Podcast. I'm your host, Jesse Yule. Today we got a very special guest, Justin Steinhause. He's a chiropractor. Lincoln, Nebraska Chiropractic usa, repping his infringe shirt today. Justin, how you doing, man?
Good.
Hey man, want to welcome you to the show. Can you give us just a little bit about you, how long you've been doing chiropractic and what got you started?
Oh, sure. Well, I've been here in Lincoln for 18 years. Really what got me started down the road in chiropractic is I grew up with horrible migraine headaches and so much so I was having like CT scans, brain scans, they had me on blood pressure medication when I was 8 years old because my migraines were so bad. And my uncle became a chiropractor and I started getting adjusted just because I thought it was kind of cool to hear my neck go crunch. And next thing you know, my, my migraines are getting fewer and fewer and before you know it, they're, they're gone. And then through other sports injuries, I dislocated my right hip and wrestling my freshman year and all the medical doctors, PTs, everybody told me to hang up your shoes because you're not going to be competing again. And when I was a freshman in high school, I was in school for sports, not for school. So that was, yeah, that was pretty traumatic. And then started getting, you know, just kept getting adjusted and seven weeks later I was back at it and won. The next, you know, seven weeks later, I won a varsity wrestling match there. So, you know, every, every single time the medical model took away hope from me, chiropractic gave it back. So that's, that's why we're here. That's why I am where I am.
That's amazing, man. It's crazy. My first chiropractic experience, I was in seventh grade. I went to jump over a guy playing football, came down, landed straight up and down on my neck. And all the doctors, you know, pretty much kind of told me the same thing. Hey, you probably shouldn't be playing football. And then they ended up a chiropractor. We had a doctor that was a do, and he ended up saying, well, let me take a look at it. So I started getting adjusted in seventh grade and kind of myself, kind of stuck with it ever since. But it was pretty cool, you know, I had no idea back then, you know, how important it is now. But I started kind of early on with the sports injury as well, so. That's awesome. Well, hey, man, I want to talk a little bit about. You've been a chiropractor 18 years. You know, what. What are some of the things you feel like maybe yourself, if. If there was another chiropractor who's either listening to this, they're younger, or maybe they just don't have the experience. What were some of the things you struggled with, man, kind of early on when it comes to kind of the business side of the chiropractic space.
Oh, boy. Getting new people in the door, getting. Just getting the traffic. Because I, you know, you go to. You go to chiropractic school and they give you the kind of the field of dreams build it and they will come, which that's pretty much bullshit. You know, you gotta. You gotta get out there and keep hustling. And I had no idea how to do online marketing or Facebook or anything like that. So I just kind of banked on screenings, like spinal screenings. And I was. I was going out and doing boat shows and home and garden shows and lawn and leisure shows, and I was doing spinal screenings outside a sleep number store, like. And, you know, we could be good.
We call that pimp in your services, man.
Yeah, I mean, I was out there. I was just doing spinal screenings all the damn time. And some weeks was great. Some weeks were, you know, not so great. But, yeah, that's. That was my biggest challenge, was just getting people in the door. I could get people to say yes to chiropractic, but it was just getting the people through the doors to even know we were here. Nobody knows you're here.
Yeah. So, you know, with that, obviously, probably 17, 18 years ago, when you first started, you know, chiropractic, you know, marketing was a lot different then. Right. You'd walk around, hand out your business card. I think what's really changed in that space is today where now you have, you know, you have social media now you have all these other ways of being able to get clients. So I know, like, you know, you've done, you've done well with Facebook ads. And like, our, our marketing is not in either or. It's kind of like, hey, here's another opportunity to do this. But like, what has been, you know, what's, what's been kind of the thing for you, man? Like, there's a Facebook ads has been going on for a while in your industry. You obviously work with some other companies that do that. But like, what's some of the frustrating things you've found with Facebook ads and just doing some different style of marketing?
Well, dropping two to three grand a month and having no guarantees of, of return. Yeah, some like, it's kind of like spinal screening. Some weeks it's awesome. Other weeks it's just terrible. You could get 10 leads in a day or you could get 10 leads in a month. It's just every time, every time my Facebook ads start hitting and getting some traction, they, you know, change up the algorithm and next thing you know, you don't, you don't have any leads for another two weeks. So that was, that was my, that is my frustration with Facebook ads. I mean, I'm still doing them and they still produce, but it's, you know, it's hit or miss. It beats the hell out of spinal screenings, though.
Yeah, for sure. You know, the other thing too, man, is, is a lot of competitors are running similar ads. You know, they're, they're kind of running the same offer, so sometimes they just get fatigued, but. And then you got to, it's whoever's like spending more money. Right. You know, and I know, like, really the reason why I learned the system that I do now is because of Facebook ads. When I had my training facilities, everybody else was copying what we were doing. So it was really the only way that we could decipher ourselves from other people was to do a different style of marketing. So obviously, man, you know, we've been working together for a little while. What was the main reason why you decided to, you know, work with our company with our results based marketing system?
Well, other than I twisted your arm, I was hbo. I have several friends that are, that were using your program and having really great success with it. And you know, honestly, I drugged my feet for too long. I'm sure it's the same old Story. They just. I was just super hesitant at first because I've had so many people reach out to me about marketing programs, and they all have the same promises, oh, this works, this works. And so I've tried so many things and been burned so many times that I was just like, I just drug my feet and just kept dragging my feet and dragging my feet for probably, what was it, three or four months and then you just. Was it six?
Just. I'm just messing with you.
Yeah, no, you just, you. You stayed on top of me and kept asking me engaging questions. And then just when talking to other friends that have been very successful with the program, I just finally said, what the hell, let's do it and see. See how it goes.
Cool, man. So, like, what. What was a. What was kind of the big thing you noticed first stepping into our program? Like, what was one of the biggest things? It's like, oh, this is like, different than what everybody doing. Wow.
It was giving results and having people come to me and not. Not having to, like, chase people. I'm just. I'm just posting, getting my, you know, getting my Facebook profile active so people are seeing what I'm posting. And that was the biggest thing is, is everything was just laid out, and all I had to do was just do this on this day, do this on this day, and. And. And just start posting those. Those engaging questions, and people just started responding. It was in every. Every post that I did, I'd get more and more and more engagement. And yeah, it was. It. It was just completely different than anything I've ever done, and it was just laid out step by step on how to do it.
Nice. So, you know, obviously you've been, you know, you've been in the program for now, you know, I think close to three months. It took about 30 days to kind of get everything ramped up and going, you know. What was the big thing you noticed after that initial 30 days? Just with the type of client you were attracting. And, and not only that, because, like, a big thing is like, hey, how fast is this going to work? Right? And it's like, well, right. It's going to take you about two weeks to 30 days. Once that hits, you know, you really start hitting it hard. But, like, what. What happened after Your first initial 30 days?
I was getting kind of frustrated within the first 30 days because I was getting some responses, but, you know, it wasn't. Wasn't taken off like everybody had said. And then just one day, just, boom. I mean, we did like, $30,000 in about two weeks, just. Just getting people following up with them and. And DMing them. And it. It was wild. I was, like, blown away because it was just, like, slowly ramping up, and then, boom. Just.
I think I remember the. I think I remember the conversation. You were like, hey, I got. I got some people to raise their hand, but I haven't booked them. And then we went through it kind of step by step on. Exactly. Hey, here's what you need to say.
Yeah.
And then I remember later that day, you're like, dude, I just booked five people. I've already closed two. And then it was just like. It kind of took off like a rocket ship from there.
Yeah, it was, like, hit that critical mass. And all of a sudden, people were just. It was wild. Even my. Even my. My team here was just like, what the hell are you doing? And, I mean, it wasn't from Facebook ads. It was just. Just talking to people and just having a conversation over DMs, which was super weird for me at first. And now you get the. Get the formula down, and it's just. It's just easy. It's super easy to just chat with people you've never met before. Some of the people that reached out were people that I've known for a while that, you know, some of them people I knew from high school. But, yeah, it's been crazy how easy that first 30,000 went.
Yeah. And I mean, think about it, too, is like, you know, you talked a lot about how most of people you got in the past were all kind of from your local area. And then how much this expanded your reach, how much, you know, how much it kind of showed you that, like, dude, you. You can, you know, get people anywhere with the programs you offer. Like, what has that been like to be able to see that you can actually make money 100% online?
That blew me away. My first. The first time I did a virtual console, I did. I just jumped on. On the iPad, did a. Like a Facebook video message consult with a lady on Gut Health. And her mom was listening to the whole thing. And next thing you know, the mom's, like, asking questions, and then she finds out that we. We treat peripheral neuropathy as well. And my first. My first online video consultation was a $7,000 call in an hour because I closed a Gut Health and a neuropathy program just over a. Over a Facebook messenger video like this. And I just, like. It blew my mind. It just opened the doors to possibilities. And now I've had virtual consults with people In Boston, I've had virtual consults with people in Colorado and California. I mean, it's just, it blew my mind and how, how easy it was and how far reaching these posts can be because, you know, people need help and they want help and if we're, we're showing that we care and that we want to help, then it was, it was amazing to me. It blew my mind. Absolutely blew my mind how, how easy it was. I got off the first call and I was like, as they're saying yes to me, I'm trying to not get too giddy with excitement. I'm like, oh yeah, this is totally what we're expecting. So I was awesome. I was, yeah, blown away.
So, you know, with that man, like, we teach a very specific communication style with getting people on calls, with, you know, converting people from, you know, our content into dms, into either getting them on a call or into your office. What has been that, like, what's been like for that just to learn that communication style? Has that helped you with your business?
Absolutely, yeah. I mean, just, it's just starting up a, starting up a conversation with a complete stranger and having the format to do that, it's just, it's easy. And you start doing it with four, five, six people a day and it's just like the same conversation, just the same, same protocol and, and they just like, it's just easy communication. And they're simple questions. That's the thing is that the questions are just so simple and you just guide them down a path and every single time they just, you know, they're not happy with their results. They do want to make a change and we have the answers for them. So it's really, it's open, opened the doors.
What would you, what would you say the biggest difference for you for like this type of client lead that you're getting versus like a Facebook ad lead?
Well, they, I mean, we've, we've built some rapport through our questions. Like, you know, I feel like we've built a much better rapport with somebody over the questions that we're asking them through direct messages than just somebody seeing, you know, a forty dollar new patient special. They come in, you know, I don't know, they feel like they come in expecting to pay something to want a service rather than give me some free, you know.
So, yeah, the mindset's different of the buyer.
Yeah, completely got him.
And you know, one of the things that we talk about is the mindset of somebody who comes in for a discount. They're very price aware, very price conscious, you know, and then somebody who comes in this way is very problem aware, solution aware, which means they're, they recognize they have a problem and they recognize you're the solution. So the state and the mindset of the person coming in is in a much different place. They're looking for a solution versus looking for a discount.
Yeah, it's. It's been really good. I'm. I'm very happy you've. Like I said the beginning, I was very skeptical about how this is all going to work. And it's. I feel like you, you really have a good, good support system. Because when I was struggling, we just got on a call and you tweaked a couple, couple little things and that's what, that's what made things take off. So is way different than anything I've ever done before. And I'm, I'm very pleasantly surprised with how, how well it's gone. And we're really, I mean, we're really just getting started. So I haven't even dug into the more advanced stuff. I've just been doing the beginner stuff and it's really taken off.
Yeah, let's. I mean, let's talk about it, man. Because like, for you, you weren't really using Facebook for this. I. Common thing is, is like, hey, I've never used Facebook this way. What would you say to that person that's like, hey, I've never used it this way? How easy was it to implement this and, and put it into play?
I mean, it's been very interesting. It's been very easy to. To implement. I, I was rarely on my personal profile. I would post vacation pictures couple times a year and repost memes and stuff. But other than that, I wasn't, I wasn't very active on my Facebook page at all. And it was just sitting there. You know, I had thousand friends that I, you know, never talked to and never really interacted with and just increasing my, my friends list. And it's been super easy. I mean, you just follow the, follow the steps and we were getting more and more engagement and just. I don't know what else say other than that. It was just super easy and super effective.
Yeah. Cool. How much of the program you think you've implemented? Like 10%, 5%, 15.
Oh, like 5%. I mean, I'm still on like just the simple Facebook posts and getting engagement and then asking an engagement post and following up with them. I haven't even got into. I haven't really gotten to the meat. Meat and potatoes of everything yet. I've just been doing. I've been on step one of step 20.
Yeah, no, that's all good, man. What would you say, you know, the coaching and community has been, like, for you with other people in the group?
It's been very good and very supportive. Everybody. Everybody's got your back, and everybody is, you know, excited when you have a win. And. And that's the other cool thing, is just celebrating your wins with everybody in the group and seeing. Seeing everybody consistently getting those wins. It's pretty cool. I really like it.
Yeah. And I know you're in a lot of other, you know, coaching programs and groups, like, how much winning do you see in our program versus, like, what else you've seen out there?
I'm involved with some pretty successful groups, so we see lots of wins. But this. This just. This is such a diverse group of people with all my. All my other groups are very, very specific for one topic. And, I mean, we've got people in so many different professions and so many different businesses that everybody's winning. And that's what's cool, is just seeing everybody winning across multiple. Multiple professions, multiple business ventures, and. And, yeah, it's. It's cool to see.
Yeah, I love it, man. So let me ask you. This chiropractor, like, you listening to this, thinking about it for six months, Years, you know, just thinking about doing this program. Like, what would you tell them?
Quit messing around and just do it? Yeah. I mean, I drugged my feet for six months. We could have been six months ahead of where we are now.
Nice.
And. And my. My friend. My friend Jamie, who was. She said, you know, you're gonna. He's gonna. He's gonna bust your chops and say you drug your feet for too long and think where you could be. And that's just so true.
That's funny. Hey, I still haven't wear. They. I still haven't seen you wear your Iowa stuff yet, either.
Never happened. Never happened. I'll be dead in the dirt before you see me in Iowa gear.
Nice hit. You know, Justin and Jeff have. One of the other guys in the group had a little bet going on, and I think Justin might have lost in the beginning, but I think he might have caught up in the last few weeks. So.
Yeah.
Anyways, man. Hey, well, we appreciate you being in the HBL group. We appreciate, you know, the work you're doing and excited to see what's next for you, man, and really to watch you grow. So thanks for being on the show today. Any last words to any of your chiropractic buddies out there?
It's been very successful and very easy for me and I just highly recommend it. Quit dragging your feet and just pull the trigger. Get going and you'll be successful. Everybody on the group has been successful that I've seen to this point. So cool. Take a little time, put a little work and, and do it. It works easy.
