The purpose of this show, the purpose of this show is to guide you to realign with habits that get you to live the life.
Welcome back to the Habit Based Lifestyle Podcast. I'm your host, Jesse Ewell. Today we got a very special guest, Rob Weiss. He is actually one of the top realtors in Orange County. In fact, sold our house in record time, record money for our neighborhood. Rob, I want to welcome you on the show today.
Hey, thanks for having me, Jesse. And thanks for the warm intro. It's been awesome to work with you on multiple transactions over the years. And Katie.
Yes.
Shout out to you.
Yeah. So it's— yeah, actually, yeah, if we went way back, you know, you helped us rent our house, then you sold— you were the selling agent when we bought it and then you helped us sell it. And again, I'll reiterate, you got record kind of record pricing per square foot in the neighborhood. So That was awesome.
So yeah, we're super pumped on that and grateful to have worked with you and the family over the years and to get to know you guys.
Yeah. So, well, today I wanted to bring you on and, you know, we've kind of been working together doing the High Performance Protocol, which is really, you know, just a health program meant for entrepreneurs, business owners. And, you know, I wanted to talk to you a little bit about today because you've obviously gotten amazing results. Before we kind of get into that, can you kind of talk a little bit about You know, obviously you're a real estate agent, but what were maybe a couple of the goals you were really looking to accomplish coming into the program?
Yeah, absolutely, Jesse Ewell. Getting to know you over the years and seeing your discipline and watching your podcast and, and Instagram and Facebook and stuff and just kind of seeing your programs, it was always intriguing to me as someone who does kind of work 7 days a week, 24/7, you know, over 50 years old with a youngster at home. Just kind of keeping track of energy levels, weight, diet, things that are super important for someone who's, who likes to think of themselves at least as a go-getter and wanting to just really kind of crush it at life as well as business and being a dad and a husband, the things that are super important. You know, there were certain things that I saw in you that, you know, could hopefully help me with. And like I, like we talked about diet, Weight, health, sleep, you know, the things that are really, really important, come to find out, that I had never been educated on at this phase in my life.
Yeah, that's good, man. Those are kind of good points. What do you feel like, you know, maybe prior to working together, what do you feel like you really struggled with? Maybe like your top 2 things, you know, when it came to exercise, nutrition, and just trying to balance all that out with, you know, life and business?
You know, I think the, the kind of what I had been noticing over probably the last 3 to 5 years was inflammation, constantly being tired because of the amount of work that we're doing for our business and running a family and stuff. And, and then using food a lot of times as a as a crutch, like, oh, I've had such a hard day of work, so I'm just going to go enjoy a wonderful dinner at the Italian restaurant and just eat really poorly. And then you're kind of in this vicious cycle. Whereas, you know, you helped teach me that there's other ways. And then incorporating exercise has just been huge, absolutely huge. Getting the weight down and eating properly and just consistent exercise has really, really changed Everything from mental clarity to stamina.
Got it. Yeah, I know, you know, when you first came in, you know, you mentioned kind of in the afternoon you would kind of get that, you know, tired feeling around 2, 3 o'clock. You know, I know that was one of your big goals coming in was to kind of like have that energy all throughout the day.
Yeah, that was huge. I found, you know, consistently exactly that, that in the afternoons there was a crash. And, and that's not something that can happen. As you know, you're a, you're a striving businessman. You understand that when, when you're busy and you're going after it, those are some important hours. And especially a lot of times that's when my daughter gets off school and we want to go surfing or whatever it may be. So that was really important to get those hours back. And I think we've definitely achieved that. I would, you know, I'm sure it's, I'm sure it's exercise, but it feels to me like food was just a huge, huge part of that as well. What you're eating and, and, um, you know, your program on that, what you're eating throughout the day, how many times you're eating, um, really just seemed to help with that. And it helped very quickly too, you know, just getting into it. I would say within the first week, noticing dramatic difference. Dramatic difference.
Yeah, so let's talk a little bit about kind of specific results. You know, I know you mentioned just now kind of like, you know, in your first week, really just with changing your diet, things like that, but really seeing, uh, inflammation kind of go away. I think sometimes with some of this stuff too is maybe we don't even know what we're feeling until we actually start doing stuff, and then it's like, oh wow, I didn't realize some of the food I was eating was maybe causing the inflammation. But like, what is maybe one or two big things that you notice by changing your diet?
Definitely the inflammation and weight loss. You know, the inflammation that I felt a lot in my knees, ankles, and kind of joints, shoulders were getting really bad. That really was 90 to 95% gone in a matter of weeks. And I just have to attribute that to food because the weight loss, you know, came off over months. And right. And so but the inflammation and just feeling good and the energy levels was really, really quick. And, you know, I, you know, you're, you're the pro, but I'm guessing that was, you know, food-based.
Yeah, for sure. I mean, you know, if we're eating foods that, that can cause inflammation, such as, you know, sugar, um, you know, seed oils, you know, just different things like that. Those can all be major contributors to inflammation or just triggering inflammation. So, um, I think that's— those are obviously like two kind of simple ones without getting, you know, too far into the weeds. But let me ask you this, like, what, what do you feel like, you know, weight-wise, how much weight you think you've lost total since starting?
Right about 18 pounds, which doesn't sound like a huge amount, but, you know, for a guy who's 5'10" at 200, it made a dramatic difference in, in my physique as well as confidence and the way I feel. Most importantly, most importantly, 100% the way I feel.
Yeah.
I mean, I think the, I think the important thing is, is, you know, one of the things we talked about is it's not just about the weight loss. It's about what type of weight you're losing. I think the cool thing is, is I think last time we checked, about 3-4 weeks ago, you were also down about 5% body fat, which is— that means, you know, the majority, if not all, of the weight you're losing was actually fat. So I think that's a pretty significant amount. And then knowing that, you know, the weight you're losing is fat and not muscle, I think that's really important too.
Yeah, I was blown away on that last test that showed that the, that, you know, the muscle stayed the same as I lost all that weight, which, you know, probably would have been nice if the muscle went up a little bit. But that's, you know, I didn't hit the weights hard enough, I guess. But the weight came off. Yeah.
Well, it's actually— it's actually really hard to lose, lose fat and gain muscle at the same time.
Gotcha.
Yeah, so it's actually really hard, but it's actually, you know, if you're losing fat, that's the key. And I think, you know, probably if we went and measured again today, I think you'd probably be up about 3-4 pounds of lean muscle since last time we did it. So, um, you know, don't, don't always take not gaining muscle as a bad thing. I think as long as you're losing fat, that's kind of ideally the, the plan coming in. And then once you've kind of lost the fat, now gaining muscle is going to probably be a little bit easier for you.
Awesome.
Let's talk about maybe like how this has impacted your, your business on a day-to-day basis and just kind of how you show up in your business.
Yeah, absolutely. Well, starting off with a morning workout has been just paramount on the days that I do work out. Definitely feel a sense of mental clarity.. And I don't know that the, the inflammation that I was feeling as well as the afternoon drag is tied to production and sleep and things like that. I'm sure it is, but I definitely noticed a more, a robust day, able to put in hours better. And, you know, I'll keep going back to the most important thing of this whole process for me was to help with the home life of just being a better dad. And, uh, being a better dad, having more energy to be the better dad. You know, during this process, I started surfing with my daughter, which is the most amazing thing in the world. And, and just getting so pumped and having that afternoon push because we're not surfing during school hours and I work weekends. So we're surfing in the evenings and just getting out when we can. And, and to have the energy to do that's the most rewarding thing there is.
Yeah, I mean, that's amazing. Not to mention you're able to do it with your daughter. And then where we live isn't a bad place either to know that you can go surf after work or after school.
Yeah, we're pretty lucky. So always here to help people find a house if they want to live in South Orange County.
Yeah, if you guys are listening to this, hey, if you're listening to this, you're in Orange County or maybe you live somewhere else and you're looking to relocate to Orange County, Rob, We'll give Rob a little bit of a plug on that.
Yeah, we can surf in the mornings before school and work, and we can surf every evening as well.
So, yeah. Well, tell me, tell me maybe an unexpected result you got out of the program, you know, that you weren't kind of expecting.
You know, I guess I wasn't expecting the, wasn't expecting the change in my physique. You know, my shoulders are back a little bit farther. You know, I've never been, you know, in 30-plus years, someone who's been in shape. And I've just noticed a dramatic change in that and the way that, you know, my body looks and feels. And, you know, it feels great, especially at the age I'm at. I'm no spring chicken. So it's just getting fit later in life wasn't something I would have expected, but it's definitely something that feels amazing.
Yeah, it's, um, you know, I, I think the biggest, well, you're not that old, so you're only a few years older than me, so don't, you know, don't be calling us out too much on that one.
Yeah. Yeah, exactly.
Um, I think the, I think the biggest thing is, is like, just for people to realize is like, hey, it doesn't matter, you know, what your age is. It's, you're never too late to start. And then also like you can see pretty dramatic results in a short amount of time, even if you haven't done anything for years. Uh, and I think sometimes people kind of have that story that keeps them from actually doing something. But, you know, like you said, hey, this was kind of unexpected of me to see this much progress in a short amount of time. But, uh, again, you know, you also did the work and you're committed to it. And I think that's, you know, something that's really important to be said too.
Yeah. Thank you. Um, and also to give a shout out for Jesse and his team, the process. Was easy, user-friendly, the follow-up, the support. I always felt supported 100% of the time. I could shoot you a text, hey, should I be eating this, or whatever it may be. The responses were, you know, we're in a similar business where we got to respond to our clients, right, in a timely manner. And it was always there, whether it was the weekend or weekdays. And so I'm grateful for your leadership through this process. It's been awesome.
Yeah, you're welcome. Well, tell me, you know, what you think kind of like that next goal is for you.
The next goal is, I would say, consistency. You know, staying, we're heading into the holidays and I know you and I have talked about that. And, you know, who doesn't like to eat a bunch of food at Thanksgiving and Christmas? And gosh, Halloween's right around the corner. Can you believe it? But, you know, I could see things going south really quickly without a, a, a commitment to the discipline of, of kind of the foundation that you've already set and the, the, the workbooks and stuff that you've given that if things do get a little squirrely, we can right-size it real quickly.
Yeah, no, that's a, that's a good, good point. Uh, I mean, yeah, you know, we all have real life. We all have, you know, holidays, I think. At times, you know, holidays is a, you know, at least where we live, and I mean kind of in the, in the United States, it's a lot of times associated with food and celebrating. Um, and I think sometimes, you know, how we celebrate, you know, is with food a lot of times. And, and I think, you know, we just, we kind of need to pay attention to that and be like, hey, I can celebrate, you know, this much, and, and I have a limit of like food. But there's also indicators of pain, inflammation coming back, and, and maybe energy loss in the day that we got to pay attention to. And that kind of helps us get back on track. And those are always things that I hope clients, as they work with me, is they pay attention to those indicators and kind of realize, hey, I need to maybe tighten it up and, you know, not go overboard, but, you know, eat to where I'm satisfied and, and feel like I don't have to give anything up, but also to where I continue to be consistent with exercise and, and nutrition and things like that.
Yeah, super valid point. And the consistency and the discipline, um, surrounding the program is just—
well, hey man, uh, let me ask you this kind of last thing is like, what would you say to maybe someone who was on the fence of, you know, doing this as a business owner, you know, maybe they weren't really sure they wanted to invest in their health, but they definitely knew they needed a change in it.
I would say just jump, get off the fence and jump. You know, I was actually talking with my wife about that this morning is, is taking the leap and you won't regret it. You know, the, the health is the, is the foundation. And, you know, um, I recently lost a friend that was my age and I know I shared that with Jesse. He passed away and it makes you think, you know, jump now and, you know, commit 2, 3, 6 months, whatever you want to commit to, 1 month even. You're not going to regret it. You know, you're not going to regret it. The mental— as a business owner, the mental clarity, the stamina, the longevity that it's going to give you is only going to help. You know, if you're after 2, 3 months, you don't like it, well, go back to being you. That's fine. But I kind of strongly suspect that's not going to be the case because it's fun, man. Having a little extra energy is fun and kind of gets us where we want to go. You know, I think the people that you probably typically work with, Jesse Ewell, are some people that want to get after it in life and business. And, you know, you're a great coach for that. I can't speak enough about it. So just jump in. Yeah, I appreciate you.
All right, guys. So hey, if you're looking to relocate to Orange County, just jump and you can jump into the health side with me, and then you can jump into the real estate side with Rob, and he can get you set up with your first house and maybe selling or buying in Orange County.
