EP 646: Headline Strategy for Health Restoration Programs with Dr. Linzi Saigh Larsen
26 Jan 2026 · 29 min
In this episode of the Habit‑Based Lifestyle Podcast, host Jesse Ewell interviews naturopathic doctor Lindsay C. Larson, owner of Total Health Restoration, about her transition from a traditional one‑on‑one, time‑for‑money clinical model to a group‑based health program. Lindsay shares her six‑year journey running a solo practice, the burnout she experienced, and how following Jesse’s Habit‑Based Marketing program inspired her to create a scalable, habit‑focused program. She discusses the mental blocks that delayed her investment, the specific goals she set (launching a beta cohort, creating systems, and achieving financial stability), and the rapid development of the Total Health Restoration program. The conversation covers marketing shifts—shorter, more engaging content and targeted outreach—resulting in a jump from ~50k to ~98k profile views. Lindsay reports client outcomes beyond weight loss, such as reduced brain fog, increased energy, and pain relief, and notes that none of the 17 beta participants highlighted weight as their top benefit. Financially, the beta generated $37,000, surpassing her previous monthly earnings from a two‑day‑a‑week practice. She reflects on personal growth, overcoming self‑blocking beliefs, taking decisive action, and unexpected benefits like effective delegation and the power of an abundance mindset. Finally, she offers advice to other health professionals: be coachable, invest in yourself, and don’t wait years to join a program.

The purpose of this show, the purpose of this show is to guide you to realign, guide you to realign with habits that get you to live the life, live the life.
Welcome back to the Habit Based Lifestyle Podcast. I'm your host, Jesse Ewell. Today we got a very special guest, naturopathic doctor Lindsay Say, and she is from Iron River, Michigan, which is the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. We want to make sure we clarify that Lindsay is the owner of Total Health Restoration. Lindsay, I want to welcome you on the show today. So can you give the listeners just maybe a little bit of context throughout your background and kind of like what you do and how you help people?
Yeah, so I've owned my, my own practice for about a little over 6 years now and been doing the classic trade in time for money. I've been able to help, you know, a lot of people, but just getting a bit burnt out in the process and pretty, pretty exhausting, which is why I actually started following you from the beginning because everything you were saying was just ringing so true. Just a lot of that classic exhaustion, time for money, and just really get into a burnt out, out place. And so just really trying to be open to what other possibilities there were because as a healthcare provider and as a naturopathic doctor and everything is so much based around just time for money and I can always increase my prices, but that only gets to a certain degree. And then once your schedule is full, you're maxed out.
Yeah. How long have you been a naturopathic doctor?
So that's been the, the 6— well, actually, no, I graduated, so it took me a year to get up and going. So I've been a naturopathic doctor for about, um, 7 years, with my, my business for 6 years. And so doing that, and, and so it's, you know, it's so great to be able to help people, but I also feel that I have a lot of, you know, burnout sessions where it's like, you know, your schedule is full, you want to be grateful for schedule being full and for feeling busy, but then you get, you slowly just get burnt out and then, you know, it's like this cycle and I was just really, really getting, getting sick of that. And I remember even only being 2 years in and already feeling burnt out and being like, oh my gosh, I'm supposed to do this for like 20 or 30 years. Like, how am I gonna do this?
What, let me ask you this. What, what was the main, what was the main reason why you wanted to become a naturopathic doctor? Is this something you've always wanted to do, or is somehow— did you kind of like maybe have some medical stuff go on and, and you had somebody help you? But like, what, what was the main thing that kind of kickstarted this?
Well, I always wanted to be a dentist, actually. That's what I, I always wanted to be. And it was actually my dad was like, I've heard of this like naturopathic medicine stuff, you should really look into it. And I Googled it. I had actually never heard of it.. And I was reading and I'm like, oh my gosh, this is so me. And at the time I had started naturopathic medical school. I was on, you know, 6 pharmaceuticals, still feeling like crap. My, my husband now, who was my boyfriend at the time, he had like some horrible labs and we went to every specialist and he was having horrible symptoms, just, you know, and specialist after specialist. And they're just like, well, pretty much you're like still young and vital and you're not dying yet. So we don't really have any drugs for you, so there's nothing we can do. Come back when your liver actually starts to fail, XYZ. And so I felt like I actually really needed to learn this to be able to help and protect my family. And then of course, being in school and going through all of it, you just developed this strong passion and realize how many people need this information and to be able to— so the focus was healing my family, helping heal myself, and then grew into a passion for sharing this, you know, with others cuz so many people need it.
Yeah, that's so cool. So let's kind of talk about, you know, you mentioned burnout, kind of mentioned a more one-on-one model is what you've kind of like been doing. What was, what was kind of the main reason you wanted to join Habit Based Marketing program? You know, what kind of caused you to want to do that?
Well, I would say the biggest thing is, first of all, how you show up. I mean, like, You know, I followed you for 3 years. Now everybody else, don't take as long as I did. If you're like in my burnout, don't wait 3 years. But I just didn't feel ready in my, my headspace cuz my block was my own mental block because I knew there would likely be potentially a larger ticket item approach and I just mentally like wasn't there. So I didn't want to invest and jump in if I like couldn't do the main thing we'd have to do. And so that was my main block, but I just kept following you for 3 years and just seeing how you consistently showed up, how you ran your business and just how things were based on, on habits. Even though the focus is on business, we have to have the habits in all areas of our life. And so I just gained a lot of respect for you. And when I finally reached the point of I can't go this direction anymore, like my pretty much breaking point, but then also experiencing firsthand, like we've talked about, like using, you know, experiencing firsthand using peptides, using the, you know, the GLP-1, the trizeptide, and how transformative it was and how it could be used responsibly and in a helpful way as part of naturopathic medicine. And knowing what I experienced, and if somebody would have told me like, this is what you have to pay, a, you know, a larger ticket item per se, but in 90 days you'll feel like this, it was just like I experienced it firsthand. I'm like, oh my God, absolutely, I would pay double that, I would pay triple, I would take out a loan, I, to feel this good. And so I'm like, okay, here we go, I'm going to do it. So I would say one, just seeing how you show up. And cause a lot of times in the business world, like, you know, like there's a lot of smoke and mirrors and you don't really know who to trust and people promise you all these things and you make these big investments and then nothing really pans out because honestly most of us are our own worst enemy. But a lot of people don't understand the habits or how to ask the right questions like you do. So you just remain stuck. And so that was my biggest fear as well. It's I just didn't wanna make this investment. And then like have nothing really happen. And so seeing you consistently show up for that period of time and then experiencing a larger ticket item myself was like, all right, let's go. I'm ready.
Yeah, no, that's awesome. What do you remember kind of specific goals you set, you know, when we first started, um, you know, that you really wanted to accomplish?
Yeah, I wanted to, well, forever I wanted to launch a program. Like I wanted to be able to get away from time for money. Like I'll always have that be a little piece of my practice because it, it, it does fill you up in a way. So does the other way. Just, you know, I live in a small rural community and so I'll always have my, my little group, you know, and that's fine. But for the most part, to grow and expand, I wanted to simplify. I wanted to have systems. I wanted to have a program so that I could lock and load people in. And help resolve like 90 to 95% of people's problems through the, through the, the habits, through the things that I know as naturopathic medicine, but not have to pour in individually every time for that time for money and, and, and not repeat myself. I'm just repeating myself all day, every day. So to have videos and handouts and resources and lock them into that system and have still be able to have that impact and have them change their life and their health. But in a much more sustainable way, a much more financially beneficial way, and a less energetically depleting way. And so I've been wanting to do that for years. And so that's when I could see that. So my goal was to create a, to create a program, which felt like this big overwhelming thing. And then to make a big chunk of money because I decided la— you know, my accountant told me I had a whole year and of course I waited last minute. That I needed to be an S corp. Well, like we talked about when I had some goals, it's like, shoot, what was it when we were talking? Was it— it was December. And I'm like, oh my gosh, I forgot I'm an S corp. I need to pay myself. And I'm like, ooh, like I don't really think I can pay myself right now. And we're like, okay, well let's get this program, this program going. And if I get at least, you know, 10 beta in the group program, I'll get myself out of this little hotspot and be able to pay myself. And then moving forward, we can grow go from there, and then blew it out of the water. And the response was amazing. And I'm doing something that's a little bit challenging for me, but building the plane as we fly it. But that's awesome because it's forcing me to take action steps instead of just overthink, overanalyzing. So this has been a big transition for me, and I tend to perseverate and take a long time, and we've done it in a very short time. So I'm very grateful, and I'm also proud of myself for taking the action steps to, um, to just make it happen. And then we just set the goals and each time we meet, work on the things and it seems possible.
Yeah. I mean, I think one of the cool things is, is, you know, in the health space, especially working with doctors, is they tend to overthink, overanalyze, and then it kind of like is almost like a procrastination mechanism, not because you really want to, but like you really want to make a quality program. But one of the things that can happen in doing that is that We get stuck and we don't know how to get out of that. And I think one of the cool things I've seen in growth for you is like, I don't do things like that. I, I really want someone to not have all the answers, not have everything dialed in because I feel like you're going to end up changing your program anyways. And so the best feedback that we can always get is from our clients.
Yep.
And when we make changes from our clients and, and we see things that we can correct, it's easier to do it there versus changing things just to change things. And like, we're all guilty of that in business, right? But that's one of the cool things I've seen you grow in and just being in the program is like, for once you don't have to have all the answers and that's okay.
Everything all laid out perfectly. Because what I am seeing is this beta group is providing great feedback. Like I could have created all these, what I thought were helpful videos and handouts, and it's not really what people wanted. So I could have spent all that time and then they're like, hey, we could use this, we could use that. And it was none of what I just spent all the time. So it's been really helpful that way that we're able to provide what they're actually asking for. Yeah.
And I think that's really important, you know, when it comes to a program is we can build what we think. But oftentimes the best program to build is what our clients, you know, need help with solving. But I think that's something that a lot of health professionals get caught up in is they feel like they got to have everything built out before they launch. And I think one of the cool things is, is you're like, hey, this, this one time I'm not going to do it that way.
Yes.
And so that's been really cool. What I know, like a big part of, you know, this is not only like building your program out, but there's also a marketing side to it. What are maybe the one or two biggest shifts you've made with your marketing since, like, coming into the program?
Yes. So this is awesome because one thing, maybe I'm not alone, maybe other health practitioners do this too, but overexplaining and overeducating everything because it's technically what I like to see and hear, but the majority of the population could care less. So I've been much shorter now. I still, every once in a while, just to get it out of my system because I can't help myself. I still have 1 or 2 times a week where I got my long old post, but for the most part, really, um, working on more engaging with people and more short questions and more tidbits, you know, here and there, which is so hard for me to do. Um, because I wanna give like everybody all the information, but that's not what draws people in. That's not what peop— keeps people engaged. So that has been a huge shift and I'm still learning every day and I still have to check myself, but that's why a couple times a week I still get my long, my long post out and then I feel like better and I got it outta my system. But I would say that has been, um, the, the, the biggest, the biggest change and the, the most helpful. I think we went from, you know, I think it was like, what was it? 40 or 50,000 viewing. And now I just checked today and I'm at, I believe 98,000. Yeah. You know, uh, when you look at your professional, um, 99, 99, I'm at.
Okay. Nice.
So the viewing, so the viewing's just going up. Another thing I changed was just reaching out and friending people, you know, like I was actually very like, wouldn't even accept friend requests and, and also being much more intentional with my, with my ideal client. And that has been helpful. Like I don't have to help everybody. I can focus on that ideal client that I really want to help and that I really, yeah. Want to work with, and then that gets kind of exciting.
Yeah. Yeah. I mean, obviously, you know, the people we get excited about helping the most are the ones that we want to work with. Right. Um, and I think that's important, you know, as, as we establish like, hey, who is our ideal client? Who's the one that I really get excited to work with? Those are the type of people we want to work with. As you've launched your— the name of your program is Total Health Restoration. Weight loss is a part of that, but it's really total health, right? We want to focus on healing the body. We want to focus on making sure that these things you're teaching people how to do become habitual. It's not something they do temporary, it's something they do long-term. What's a few of the bigger results you've seen from your clients doing this so far?
Yes. And so it's interesting because most people think that they're, they're doing this for the main reason of losing weight. And what I see is that like all the things and so far, like everybody's losing weight, which is awesome. But when I ask them to share their, you know, what they're most excited about or the positive thing, nobody, literally none of the 17 of my beta group mentioned weight. Like the majority of them mentioned like their brain fog is gone, their aches and pains that they were having are gone. They're, um, uh, the other big one is the energy, like how much, how much energy they have. People reporting how they feel like invigorated and, and, and feel the vitality in their life again, which is so cool. And we're talking like we're into week 3 of the beta program and people are, you know, it's powerful stuff. And I know this being a naturopathic doctor, but it's still so cool to experience it in a group setting, like all at once. With how this program is, is set up. And it's so— and a lot of people were hesitant at first with doing like the group accountability calls. Oh my gosh, I never want to do it any other way. It is so amazing. And the clients are loving it. Yeah, they, they make that— they feel so supported. And, and then they hear other people's wins and struggles and can relate. It's just very powerful. But I thought that was pretty interesting that like when I kind of checked in with everybody on their progress, not one person, you know, because I see their food journal and their habit tracker and their weight is on there. Everybody's losing weight. Like, the least amount of weight lost so far was 4 pounds. And we're talking, we're not even— it's— today is Wednesday, and so Wednesday of week 3, and people are like, you know, 8 pounds, 10 pounds. And that's significant. And not one person mentioned that as their like top 2 biggest positives. Like, it was like how they are feeling, which is, is so cool to, to just to be a part of and facilitating it all together and knowing that everybody's happy and feeling supported. You know, not everybody needs that one-on-one exchanging time for money in that way. And it's actually really positive, which is what I thought— couldn't wrap my head around now. And seeing it, I just want it to all be that way. It would make my life so easy.
Yeah. I mean, yeah. So let's talk a little bit. So I know the goal initially was, hey, I want to get you know, 10 beta clients into this program. You had such a huge response to people wanting to get in, we actually extended that out. But like, how many clients did you actually end up with on your beta launch?
Yes, so I really wanted— my goal was 10, you know, just because that felt like a good goal. And also I didn't want to like overwhelm and really provide exceptional care for that first group, because also to get all that feedback from them, of course, and really have them feel that they had something positive to share. But I had, people were just like, please, please let me in. Please let me in the beta group. So we ended up going with 17. But I will say when I went through and like just calculated how many active conversations there were, and some I just, you know, you gotta split your energy and get things figured out first. So I didn't like actively pursue or use a lot of the tools you give to dig deeper or to get them invested. You just sometimes have to pick and choose, but there were 90 conversations I had going.
Wow.
And I couldn't have discovery calls with all of them at the time. I wanted to get the program going. So just the potential is, is wild. You know what I mean? And so that's pretty encouraging.
Yeah, that's amazing. So beta launch, we wanted 10, you got 17. What did that equate to, you know, financially and revenue?
Yeah. So that came out to $37,000.
Okay.
That's awesome. I mean, that's, that's a, that wasn't, it was a pretty, and we talked about this, it was a pretty, um, little full circle how you guys heard. I want, I've always wanted to be a dentist.
Yeah.
Well, my dad is a dentist and dentists make very good money for their time. So their time for money is actually pretty all right. How they got it, you know, figured out. Dentists are like time for money is, that's one profession where you're still all right. And I just was always discouraged. I, I love my my profession, but I'm just, was always in my head, man, I'm never gonna be able to make what my dad makes in a day, you know, cuz he's a dentist and I'm a naturopathic doctor. There's just no way. When I calculated how many hours are in a day, how many patients I could see, even if I writ— not even close to what he could do in a day. I remember when we, when we launched it and all these responses and then I had the discovery calls and in that day, you know, I closed, I think like 8 people in and took their payment in one day. And I remember sending you a message like, Oh my gosh. I was on my phone with my dad because he's like, "How's it going with your program?" And my dad's encouraging, but he's always like, you know, how dads are. And I was like, "Oh my gosh, Dad." He goes, "Wait, what's the math on that?" And then I told him. He's like, "You made more than I did today." And it just like hit me. I got like full body goosebumps. You know, now I want that to be consistent and we'll get there. But like, that was pretty cool. That was a pretty cool moment.
You know, that's, that's cool. I mean, you know, to know that you've been able to do that, and I know you really look up to your dad too. So that's, that's a really cool thing. On an average month prior to launching this, you know, is that, is that number close to what you do in an average month or is that like, well, let's see.
So that would be, that would be, let me just do some math here because if that would be So no, because that would be like about— so, you know, a decent month would be about, you know, because I only am in the office seeing patients 2 days a week. So I did literally get burnt out, and that's what I had to do, right? Because the cases are so complicated and things. I literally work 2 days a week, 2 long days, but that's what my mental capacity can handle. And just adrenals and all that. So, at that 2 days a week, you know, I would make about, you know, $2,000 a day. So, about, you know, $16,000 a month. So, we're talking in that short window.
Almost 3 times or 2 times, 2.5 times that basically.
Yes.
Okay.
And with the goal of once this is built, because of course, initially when you're building something, there is more time investment, there's more work, but it's going to be that amount of increased revenue with less work.
Yeah.
Which just is so freeing and so exciting. It's just like something I didn't even know really was, was possible until it, until it happened. And that's gonna go up because the beta group got a really good deal. They got like $800 off.
Yeah.
So moving forward per person, that's gonna be, you know, even more.
Yeah, that's amazing. What would you say are kind of the top 2 things that you've, you know, shifted or, or maybe like grown from just by being in this program the last few months?
Wow. I would say one of the biggest things is working through a decent amount of, of self-blocks and like maybe even some negative self-talk. So just some Guidance of like when a block would come up, working through it so that I could continue with the action steps. I would say the biggest thing just overall in my life is how much action I took in the last 2 months. Things take me a very long time. I am a slow processor and I don't think it's— I, I'm not a lazy person, but things just take me longer. Some of it with procrastination, some of it with perseveration, some of it with everything having to be perfect. And so I will often achieve a goal, but it takes me forever. Yeah. And sometimes I don't. Sometimes it takes me years. The amount that I have done with the, with your guidance in these last like couple months is, is mind-blowing to me. And I, and I'm just really grateful for that because I would say the biggest thing is working through the, the mental blocks and two, taking action.
Good.
Which is something that I have always struggled with and it's just forcing me out of that pattern, which is awesome.
Yeah. I mean, you know, that's, that's huge, right? Because I think a lot of times people want to change their business, change their marketing, but they're unwilling to take action. They're unwilling to kind of like challenge some of the stories, beliefs around that.
Mm-hmm.
And so I think it's been really cool to kind of see you be like, hey, I have this kind of thought or this thing going on. I'm not sure like what to do about it, but it's like, hey, let's work on it. And I think the cool thing is you're always open to work on it.
Yes, you have to be. Yeah, like you have to be willing to change. And, and I am— will be the first one to admit where my weaknesses are, where I, where I struggle. Like, I'm not stubborn in that way. I'm stubborn in other ways, but when it comes to like self-reflection and things like, just tell me, I want to be better. Like, because clearly I'm struggling. So let's try to fix it. Like, and so I'm very receptive to that. Sometimes I'll notice I still fall back into that pattern a little bit cuz it takes a bit to change it. Or when I'm starting to do the analysis paralysis or I'm feeling paralyzed by the overwhelm, it's so nice to have that support to work through it and get back into the action step taking.
Yeah, no, it's great. Is there any, is there any like unexpected changes that you've made in the program or unexpected results you've gotten?
Unexpected. I would say I didn't realize that I would be actually able to delegate some things. That's very hard for me. And so, um, that has been unexpected. I, I didn't think that I would, one, be able to be— to, to delegate, and then two, be so happy and relieved with the delegation. And that was unexpected. And I like that because we've been able to talk about some of that from the business side of things too, about how to better delegate. Or, okay, you need to do this one, but what about these other things? Is there anybody in your, in your support or that you already pay that could do XYZ? And then doing that. So that was unexpected. I, I would say also, I would say it is unexpected. Like, I believe in the power of manifestation and what you focus on grows, and try to have that abundance mindset and really work. But I don't know if I thought that, like, I really believed that, like, that amount of money, that, that's a lot to me, especially in my profession and in such a short period of time that I don't think I could have prepared for what that was gonna feel like to, in like, you know, I think it was a week period to have that amount of, of money come in at one time. Yeah. Was really exciting and invigorating and like, this is possible. Like, I can do this. I didn't, I didn't expect that.
Yeah, it's kind of like your own Vegas jackpot, right?
Yes, yes. And then to see that you're like, also like, you're making like this beautiful chunk of money, but you're making this beautiful chunk of impact, which is what so many people think can't happen in healthcare, or so many naturopathic doctors or functional medicine doctors, like, yeah, I'm just gonna be on like the not wealthier end because they can't go together. Because then I'm charging too much and not helping enough people. And it's like, when you see the 90 days, how somebody— how much somebody's life can change in 3 weeks, I mean, that's— I feel completely content and wonderful about what I charged because they're literally changing their life and they're feeling amazing and they're so happy. And so to have those go hand in hand is like, like, the knowledge I'm sharing and how I'm helping is absolutely worth that money. And I'm making that money now and have less resentment, less burnout, and I'm still helping now even more people at one time. And that is Awesome combination.
Yeah, that's awesome. Let me ask you this kind of a last question. Like, what advice would you give someone maybe considering, you know, joining the program and like working with me?
Yeah.
Besides not waiting 3 years.
Right. Oh my gosh. I would say to just do it. But you ask yourself the question, am I coachable? Because also nothing's worse than somebody who's like, Yeah, I want it, but I don't wanna do any of the things. Like, take a look in the mirror, be ready to, to self-reflect on yourself and, and make some changes. But don't think a larger ticket item is like not gonna work for you, like in, like in what you do or how you do it. Like you can make it work for any profession. And so don't let that, cuz what prevented me was not seeing the forest through the trees when it came to the larger ticket item. So I would encourage you to like get over that and to go for it because you will, you will just make such progress in your business. And I've just learned like the best investment you can ever make is literally in yourself, you know? And so I have my own naturopathic doctor that I help invest in with my health. I have, you know, like, you know, mindset type coach that I help on to help with that. I never had gotten a business coach before. Ever. You know, I have my accountant, my bookkeeper, not the same, not the same.
Yeah.
I can't believe it took me 6 years to get it. Oh my gosh. If I would've gotten a business coach, you know, a couple years in, not gonna beat myself up. You know, everything happens for a reason, but who knows where I would be? You know what I mean? Because in the next couple years it's gonna be crazy and I'm so excited for it. But to not wait, we need to invest and we need that help and guidance because we can't be good at everything. And so we need coaches, we need guidance to help us grow in those areas for sure.
Well, hey, super proud of the work you're doing. Excited to see how we continue to progress and just the impact you're making on other people. Thank you so much for, for just being on here today.
