So about an hour ago, Apple just did their keynote speech in which they announced a bunch of stuff for Apple. But as you know, this is an AI focused channel, so we only pay attention to the AI related announcements. And Apple did have some sneaky AI announcements which we're going to cover in this video. And there are many AI announcements that Apple did announce earlier this year, which so many people didn't even pay attention to. So without further ado, it's the AI grid and let's jump into this one.
Oh, one of the first things that.
You missed is that they actually talked about intelligent input. So essentially what this was referring to was the keyboard, and that keyboard is autocorrect. So everybody knows how autocorrect works. You type in one word and then eventually at the end of your sentence it tries to predict the next word. Now essentially what Apple have done is they've upgraded autocorrect to the point where it actually uses machine learning. So before Apple used to use an archaic old version of machine learning to predict text. But now, as you know, as Google pioneered the way in actually creating the transformer architecture for people to now use the thing that actually makes ChatGPT so effective, which, which OpenAI actually built their chatbot around, this is what Apple are now essentially using for their autocorrect word prediction. So although this firstly wasn't a major announcement, it just goes to show that of course Apple as a big company as they are, are seriously paying attention to what is going on in the space. I mean, how could you not pay attention to the rapid rise of AI? There was also another small AI announcement in which many people also did miss, which was introducing Apple's new journal feature. So essentially what journal was is it's pretty much a feature that allows you to write down your journals, but it is going to be powered by an on device AI. The word that they actually used was on device machine learning. So essentially your iPhone can create personalized suggestions of moments to inspire your writing. Now they also stated that suggestions will be intelligently curated from information on your iPhone, like your photos, location, music, workouts and more. And then of course you can essentially control what suggestions that they pull from your phone. So essentially what we have here is an AI tool that is going to allow you to write more effectively by pulling from every single piece of data that it has on your phone, such as your photos and many other different sources. Now one thing that I did find very interesting about this talk from Apple was that they did refuse to, to mention the term artificial intelligence. Or AI. Now, when you look at the transcript right here, you can see that AI isn't mentioned, but machine learning is actually mentioned in seven different times. Then of course we have this tweet from a user named Ethan Mollick and essentially it's a very, very valid point. So in this tweet he basically says that Apple didn't address the dead end that is Siri in the age of AI. So if you don't know what Siri is, for those of you who don't use Apple, essentially it's a voice assistant that you can prompt by saying, hey Siri. And then your phone will simply go up and wake up with a woman who essentially asks you, what would you like to do? Now, it can be a man, it can be a woman. Essentially it's quite like Amazon's Alexa, but for iPhone. Now the problem is is that when you ask Siri for a restaurant prompt, which is exactly what this guy did, this is Siri's response versus what Microsoft's Bing can do with the same exact prompt. Now we do know, of course Microsoft's Bing isn't voice activated, but it just goes to show that in the age of AI, why is Apple declining to spread any news or any advancements? Now I do have an answer for that, and it's simply because Apple is a company that is focused on quality more than speed. We know that Apple has always focused on, even if they bring out features later than their competitors, as many rivals may point out that some of Samsung's features have appeared in their devices years before Apple's, people still will flock to Apple's devices because of their brand, which promotes quality and trust. So are Apple actually working on anything AI related?
Well, of course they are.
It's Apple. It's a company that's always going to be innovating and staying ahead of whatever the trend is. Now the thing is, is that they're not just shouting about it. You see, quietly, a couple of years ago, Apple acquired a bunch of different AI companies, around 15 different AI companies.
They completely bought out.
And in this video later on, I'm going to explain every single company what they do and why. It's really important. Now it's also important to note that Apple does have an entire research team that's dedicated to machine learning, which is constantly posting about their breakthroughs. The only thing is that they aren't.
These crazy, crazy breakthroughs that we hear about recently, which is like text to.
Image and text to video. So they don't get that much showtime. Now there was something recently called Quartz which I will dive into and play because it is definitely something that I know a lot of people still didn't see, but it's definitely something that you should be aware of. And Apple, I promise you are going to come up with something that's probably going to shock everyone considering the large amount of companies that they acquired earlier in 2020-2022.
According to Bloomberg, Apple's latest move into the world of artificial intelligence is a health coaching service called Quartz, which uses AI and data from the Apple Watch to help users improve their overall health and wellness. The new service is designed to offer personalized coaching programs that are tailored to each individual user's needs based on their exercise habits, eating patterns and sleep quality. According to sources familiar with the project, Quartz will use AI algorithms to analyze data collected from the Apple Watch, such as heart rate, sleeping patterns and activity levels to offer personalized health and wellness suggestions to users. These suggestions will be designed to motivate users to exercise more, eat healthier and get better sleep, all of which can have a significant impact on overall health and well being. In addition to Quartz, Apple is also reportedly working on new technology for tracking emotions. This new technology would use AI to analyze data collected from the Apple Watch, such as heart rate variability and skin temperature, to identify changes in a user's emotional state. This could be particularly useful for individuals with conditions such as anxiety or depression, as it would provide a way to track changes in their emotional state over time and provide insights into potential triggers or patterns. Overall, Apple's foray into AI powered health and wellness services is a significant development for the industry. With its vast resources and expertise in consumer technology, Apple has the potential to revolutionize the way we approach health and wellness by using AI to offer personalized coaching and insights to users. It remains to be seen how successful these new initiatives will be, but they will represent an exciting step forward in the world of AI powered healthcare. Is that all that Apple has? So while it is true that Apple's recent AI initiatives might not appear as ambitious as some of its competitors, it's important to note that the company has traditionally taken a more cautious approach to new technologies. So one way that Apple could improve Siri is by integrating more advanced AI algorithms such as Those used in ChatGPT and other generative AI models. These algorithms could allow Siri to understand more complex queries and provide more nuanced and personalized responses. Additionally, Apple could explore new ways to integrate Siri into its product lineup, such as through smart home devices, wearables and other connected devices. Now, some users have actually taken it upon themselves to implement ChatGPT into Siri simply because Apple hasn't done it yet. And another potential area for improvement is in Siri's natural language processing capabilities. Natural language processing is a critical component of any voice assistant, as it allows the assistant to understand and interpret spoken language. By improving Siri's natural language processing capabilities, Apple could make the assistant more accurate and responsive, which would particularly be beneficial in noisy or crowded environments. Finally, Apple could look to expand Siri's capabilities beyond its current focus on basic tasks such as setting reminders and playing music. By incorporating more advanced AI technologies such as computer vision and natural language understanding, Siri could become a more versatile and powerful voice assistant capable of handling a wide range of tasks and queries. Overall, while Siri may face stiff competition from other voice assistants, Apple has the resources and expertise to continue innovating and Improving the Technology with the rapid pace of advancements in AI, it is likely that we will see exciting developments from Siri and other voice assistants in the years to come.
