LARRUZ explains why OpenAI bans ChatGPT accounts. The company doesn't ban you just for using a VPN, but will if you use one to access from restricted countries or constantly switch VPN locations, which makes your account look shared.

Your ChatGPT account will be banned if you keep using that VPN. People keep saying this, but is it true? And if so, how do you avoid it? After a thorough investigation, we have determined that you're using OpenAI services in ways that violate our policies. We are halting access to our products immediately for the count associated with the email. Common reasons include accessing our service from an unsupported location. Yikes. Unfortunately, messages like this are becoming more common amongst ChatGPT users. So if you rely on ChatGPT for work or business and can't afford to go without this tool for weeks, you need to be careful with VPNs. OpenAI doesn't ban accounts just for using VPNs per se. They do it when one of two things happens. First, you're trying to use a VPN to access ChatGPT from a country where AI use is legally restricted. Secondly, you're switching VPN locations several times a day. Doing this flags your account as suspicious, since OpenAI will assume it's a shared account. As long as you don't try to bypass regional access restrictions or switch which locations excessively, your account should be secure.
