A short YouTube commentary (uploaded by LARRUZ) describing a free app from Niantic that lets users scan real-world scenes with a phone to create 3D models. The speaker notes scans can be exported as 3D models, shared with friends, added into the app, or (with permission) contributed to Niantic's world model as part of their mapping effort.
Pokemon go maker Niantic made an app that lets you scan the entire world, and then you can keep the scans, and they're really great. You can export this as 3D models and then work with them, or you can actually just add them to the app. If you give them permission, they'll use it for their world model. They're trying to map out the entire world. And I just wanted to share this with you because it can be really fun to go out there and use your phone camera to just 3D capture images. You could share them with friends, you could add them to the world model or use them in a 3D software, and this app is completely free.
