According to the screenshot, the chatbot will be able to answer questions, give advice, and help users write messages. It also says that users will be able to choose between 30 different personalities and find which one they like best. This feature fits with what Mark Zuckerberg said earlier this year about Meta's AI ambitions. He said that Meta was developing AI Personas that can help people in various ways, and that they were exploring how to make such bots accessible through text conversations like chat in WhatsApp and Messenger. Other companies have also seen the potential of chatbots as an engaging social feature. Snapchat launched its own my AI chatbot powered by ChatGPT earlier this year, and sites like Character AI have achieved significant popularity by allowing users to train and talk to chatbots based on popular fictional characters. But creating a chatbot that's engaging and fun to talk to, but doesn't cross the line into offensive or dangerous interactions is not easy. For example, Snapchat's My AI Bot began offering disturbing advice to users, such as encouraging a 13 year old to have with their 31 year old boyfriend. And in March, a Belgian man died by with his widow, claiming that he had been encouraged to by a chatbot he'd been talking to regularly. It's not clear if Instagram really intends to launch such bots on its platform, or what safety measures it may take. Meta hasn't announced any formal plans for such a feature, and even if it is, there's always a chance that it might not make it past the development stage. But with interest in powerful chatbots like ChatGPT showing no sign of letting up, and platforms like Instagram always on the hunt for hot new features, there's a good chance that we'll see some form of AI chatbot on Instagram in the near future. So WordPress has launched the Jetpack AI Assistant, a sleek new plugin that can generate and edit text. The Jetpack AI assistant is available for free to WordPress.com users for a limited time with 20 free requests and a monthly $10 fee after that. It's the latest example of AI text generation software, but its availability on one of the world's biggest blogging and content management platforms will spread this technology further still across the web. The assistant is the work of Automattic, the company that owns WordPress.com and contributes to the development of the open source WordPress platform. Automattiq describes the tool as a creative writing partner that lets you generate diverse content at your command, significantly reducing the time and effort required in content creation. Demos show the tool being used to summarize a blog post in a headline, adjust the tone of text. Users can choose between options, including formal, provocative and humorous, and even generate an entire blog post from a single prompt. The Jetpack AI Assistant also has other features that make it useful for content creation.
