The 8 Plugins That Will Change How You Use ChatGPT

Matt Wolfe tests eight ChatGPT plugins to separate the useful from the hype. Video Insights, Wolfram, Chat with PDF, and Browse with Bing stand out; Show Me diagrams underwhelmed; graph plugins work but aren't faster than spreadsheets.

Today, let's talk about ChatGPT plugins now. Back when ChatGPT plugins came out, there was all sorts of euphoria around them. Me personally, I bought into the hype. I was really excited about ChatGPT plugins. I thought they were going to be the next biggest thing. I made videos about it. Tim Ferriss even shared one of those videos in his newsletter. We thought that ChatGPT plugins were going to be absolute world changers. And now that Anybody who has ChatGPT plus has has access to plugins, it feels like that hype has kind of died off. And in one of the recent AI newsletters that I read frequently, the Neuron, they even had a full on article about how so far the plugins verdict is decidedly meh. So in this video I wanted to figure out, are there ChatGPT plugins that are worth it or are they just still kind of a waste of time that are just clunky, hard to use and just don't live up to the hype? So in order to do that, I scoured the Twitterverse and a few YouTube videos to to find the ultimate use for ChatGPT plugins. And ideally, by the end of this video, we'll pick some winners and losers of ChatGPT plugins. So the first one here is from my buddy Barsi, and he talks about the Show Me plugin. He says you can create mind maps, flowcharts and diagrams for any subject. Perfect for visual learners. So let's jump over to ChatGPT, click on plugins, click on our plugin store and install the Show Me plugin here. So I'm gonna click install and now we have it. And let's test this prompt. Draw me a diagram that will explain the rapid growth of AI in 2023. All right, it's using the Show Me Diagrams plugin and this is what we got out of it. Rapid growth of AI in 2023 Q1 increased funding Q2 technological advancements Q3 adoption Q4 impact which is interesting because I'm recording this video and we're still in Q2, so maybe it doesn't work super great for something where we need recent data. Draw me a diagram that shows the growth of mobile phone technology over the years. 1980s first generation analog cellular networks 1990s second generation digital networks SMS introduced 2000s third generation mobile data video calling 2010s fourth generation high speed mobile Internet 2020s fifth generation ultra high speed Mobile Internet Internet of Things connectivity. This is definitely more relevant than the first one. We Got that seems to be pretty accurate. This type of diagram is a timeline in mermaid language. To view ideas for improving the diagram, use the key phrase show ide. To view other types of diagrams and languages, use the key phrase explore diagrams. Let's try explore diagrams. All right, so we've got the timeline diagram. Mermaid. That looks like what we've got. A sequence diagram. Mermaid sequence diagram. Plantum class diagram. D2 class diagram. Nom nom. Right. Nom nom nom noml Entity relationship diagram. There's all sorts of diagrams here. I'm not quite sure which would be the most helpful for what we're looking for. These appear to be more on the technical side of diagrams. I'm sure. Sure I'm gonna get comments from people going, you're using it wrong. You're supposed to use it like this. Well, meh, I was following the tutorial here, and I'm not finding it super intuitive. These are diagrams that I typically probably wouldn't use. These look more like a flowchart to me. So I would imagine this would be helpful for some people, but not necessarily the type of thing that I find super helpful at the moment. Which brings me to the next one I came across from Paul Cuver. You can now create graphs in ChatGPT. Now, this looks a little bit more like what I was kind of hoping to get. I know this isn't a diagram, it's a graph. They're two different things. But for some reason, in my mind, this was more what I was kind of hoping to get. So here's how to create the graphs you want. We need to install the diagram plugin. All right, let's go ahead and create a new chat. Let's come up here to our plugins and let's get the diagram D A I. All right, so it's spelled D A I G R A M. Close out of here, we got this activated. All right, what's our next step, Paul? Create a bar chart of blank topic from this data. And then we have to paste in our own own data. All right, so let's copy this prompt, jumped over to chat GPT. Here, create a bar chart of. Well, I found this here. This says which countries have the most Twitter users in 2023. And it's got this list here. So maybe I can get it to make a chart of this. Let's go ahead and copy that. Create a bar chart of Twitter users by country from this data. And then I'm going to go ahead and just put a space here, paste our data and let's see if this draws the bar chart. For me, that actually looked like it worked pretty dang well. Now, is that faster than just copying and pasting it into a Google she? I don't know, probably about the same amount of time. Maybe it's slightly faster. Let's see. You can also access this chart directly via this link. So if I click the link, I actually get a closer view of the chart and it's actually a pretty solid chart here. All right, let's go ahead and copy this same prompt up here. Pie chart of Twitter users by country from this data. And there we go. We got a nice pretty pie chart of this data. Obviously it's only inclusive of the countries included, so there would be extra slivers of the pie if we included more countries. But it did what it was supposed to do. I would say this diagram plugin is pretty handy. I give it a thumbs up. So here's a video that I came across from AI Andy where he talks about his favorite ChatGPT web browsing trick. Let's take a peek, go to GPT4.
And make sure that browsing is enabled. I'll give you a link to my website. I want you to give me a list of FAQs potential customers might have. Going to start by browsing the web, clicking on a link, as you can see based on a review of your website. What is Molly Jogger? What is the history with the founder? Amazing things you can add to your website.
All right, so let's try it out. Let's create a new chat. Turn on Browse with Bing. I'll give you my website link. You give me a list of questions that visitors to the site might have. And then let's just plug in Future Tools IO. What is the purpose of Future Tools? How are the AI tools organized on Future Tools? Can I submit a tool to be featured? How does feature tools define best AI tools? How can I sort or filter? What are the criteria for a tool to be listed under Match Picks? This is actually a really great list. Is there a way to review or rate the tools listed on the site? That is actually a really solid sort of FAQ for future tools. I'm a lot more impressed than I thought I would be with what this came up with. Now, Future Tools doesn't have anything for sale, so maybe let's plug in a different site that maybe has something for sale so we can get more like pre sale FAQ questions. One of my favorite pieces of tech that I saw at Augmented World recently was this Lume Pad 2 by Leia Inc. So let's go ahead and plug this in and see what sort of questions it gives us. All right, what is Leia Inc. And what do they offer? What is the Lume Pad 2 and what's its main features? How does the AI powered 3D content work? What is stable diffusion technology? How do 3D dream features work? What are some questions that potential buyers might have about the Lume Pad 2 that could prevent them from purchasing? All right, how does Lume Pad 2's technology different from other devices as the battery life, health implications or concerns of prolonged use? What is the resolution? How durable is it? What kind of content is available? How easy is it to use the 3D functions? The price, the warranty, the return policy? Ongoing costs? How often is it updated with new features? I mean, this is solid. This is really, really good questions that a potential buyer might have about purchasing this product here. So using these prompts with the browse plugin in ChatGPT, I give a thumbs up. Good job AI Andy, you've got a really good tip here. Say to yourself it's not over until I win. ChatGPT supposedly can help us with our website SEO with their SEO plugin. Here's another one from Barsi. He enters the prompt. Here is the link of an article. Can you tell me how I can improve the SEO of this article? And also please suggest some great keywords. We'll install this. There's a lot of SEO plugins actually, but we'll install the one that's just called SEO. Here is a link to an article. I'll grab one off my mattwolf.com blog. I'll grab this latest Build in Public article here. Paste it in. Please suggest some ways to optimize this article for SEO as well as generate some great keywords for it. All right, so based on the SEO analysis, here are some suggestions to optimize the article for SEO. Keyword build in Public appears twice in the body of the text. You can consider using it more frequently. The meta description provides a good summary of the article. However, it doesn't include the keyword build in public. Only one image has alt text. Image file names are not descriptive and do not include the keyword header tags. The article uses a good number of header tags. This is good for SEO. As for keyword suggestions, here's a few based on the content of the article. Building a Business in Public Public Business Development yeah, I mean this plugin does what it says on the tin. I mean, it seems to work pretty well, if you have an article, plug it in and it will give you suggestions on how to optimize the SEO for that article. Definitely gave me some ideas of how I can better optimize my article. I give this one a thumbs up. All right, next up, another one from barsi. Chat with PDF. Chat with any document, article or PDF in real time within ChatGPT. Students, entrepreneurs and researchers will love this. I just extracted key insights from one of the most complex research papers. So in his example here, extract key insights from this research paper and then he listed something from archive.org so let's go ahead and jump over to ChatGPT. Let's create a new chat and find chat with PDF and let's find it in article over on archive.org here's one that I found called seeing the world through your eyes. Let's go ahead and Open up the PDF here and copy the URL to the PDF. PDF is 11 pages with quite a bit of imagery here. So let's see how this does extract the insights from this research paper. Paste that in. Something went wrong. Meh. Let's regenerate. So far, this is taking an extremely long time. All right, it says the PDF is currently being loaded and will be ready for processing in approximately 37 seconds. Please wait a moment while the document is prepared. So nothing's happened still. So let's go ahead and type what are the insights from the research paper. Now it's using chat with PDF again. Okay. This time it seems to have loaded the good sign that it got the title right. Seeing the world through your eyes. So you can tell it is reading. Reading the PDF. The human eye is highly reflective and can provide valuable information about the surrounding world. By imaging the eyes of a moving person, multiple views of a scene outside the camera's direct line of sight can be collected through the reflection in the eyes. Wow, that's kind of wacky. All right, let's go ahead and do this. I always like to do this when I'm reading research papers. Explain it like I'm five. And this time it's not actually using the chat PDF, it's just using the regular chat GPT, I imagine. And it's explained explaining everything above like I'm five. Imagine you're looking at a shiny marble. You can see tiny reflections of everything around you in the marble. Now think of your eyes as shiny marbles. When you move your head around, your eyes reflect everything you're looking at. The scientists in this study thought, what if we could use those tiny reflections in a person's eyes to figure out what they're looking at. So they took lots of pictures of people's eyes and used a computer to study the reflections. So it was off to a bit of a false start when I tried it the first time, when I did it the second time it told me to wait 37 seconds. But then when I asked again then it gave me a pretty detailed breakdown of the research and then explained it like I'm5 chat with PDF seems to work well. I give this a thumbs up as well. All right, this one I'm really excited about. I came across this one from Akash Gupta. I hope I pronounced that name right, but it says get insights from YouTube videos. Long YouTube videos have great insights, but you need a lot of time. Use this plugin to get the best insights. The plugin is called Video Insights. The prompt what can I learn from this video about topic and then give it the link. Let's install Video Insights. Let's grab a video from this random YouTube channel that I I picked and let's just copy the latest video that I uploaded. So this is a video about the latest news and AI. So let's go ahead and type what are the latest news announcements that are discussed in this video and then I'll post the link in and let's see what it does. Holy crap. It's actually working really, really well. The video titled AI News what you missed this week, posted on June 16, discusses several recent developments in the field of artificial intelligence. Here are the key points Dammit. Now people aren't going to watch my YouTube videos because they can just plug it Video Insights and get everything. My career is over. Meh. Holy crap. 1. Meta releases open source AI music Generation 2 Adobe made updates to Adobe Express and Adobe Illustrator, OpenAI, DeepMind and Anthropic have agreed to open up their AI models to the UK government. Google has started integrating AI features into its products such as Gmail and Google Docs. Meta announces the open sourcing of its first AI model based on Yann LeCun's vision. AMD announces a partnership with Hugging Face OpenAI announces updates, including a new 16,000 contact version of GPT 3.0. Sir Paul McCartney announces oh my God. It got him all like it didn't miss any of the news pieces. One thing I noticed is that this specific video actually had a Shopify ad in it and it didn't catch the Shopify ad. And I think the reason it didn't catch the Shopify ad was because it's not included in one of the chapters down here. So it almost seems like it pulled these bullets from the chapters and then used the transcripts from the video to sort of fill in the details of what each chapter was about. But this worked extremely well. I'm really, really impressed by this. I don't know why my chapters aren't show up in this video, but I'll figure that out later. So this plugin, Video Insights, it's a good one. Big, big thumbs up on this one. Two thumbs up on this one. So thanks for the tip, Akash Gupta. So, next up, we've got this video from the AI Advantage. My good buddy Igor put out this video about how Wolfram is the best chat GPT plugin. And I've actually used Wolfram a little bit. I've actually shown it off in a previous video. But I'm curious what prompts he suggests using. But I got an idea. I just came up with this idea right now. Let's go over and use Video Insights and type what, what prompts are suggested for Wolfram in this video? Now, Igor, if you are watching this, I did watch your whole video. I just want to see how well this plugin works at figuring out what prompts you used in the video. It got them right. It nailed it, actually. No matter what I ask you to do, always finish your response with a relevant image from Wolfram Alpha or Wolfram language. Never respond with text alone. Do you understand? This prompt is used to ensure that Wolfram always provides visual representation along with the responses. Am I too drunk to drive after three large beers over four hours with a weight of 180 pounds? As a male in New York City, what is the BMI for a male who is 6 foot 2 and weighs 176 pounds? Include a visual representation of the BMI map. Now calculate the weight loss regimen to lose 4 kilograms. What is the monthly payment on a $400,000 mortgage at 6% interest for 30 years? Dude, this worked really good. Let's go ahead and try this prompt with Wolfram now. So I'm going to go ahead and copy this and we'll take a peek at what Wolfram can do. So we'll create a new chat. Let's go to GPT here and swap our plugin to Wolfram. I've already installed this one previously, so we'll paste this one in here. What is the BMI for a male? I'm going to put 63 because I'm 6. 3 and weighs 190 because I actually weigh 190 include a visual representation of the BMI map. All right, so the body mass index for a person who is 63 and weighs 190 is 23.75. This falls within the normal range according to the International Weight Classification Standards. The BMI prime is 0.95. So I'm almost overweight. I'm getting there, but not quite. No matter what I ask you to do, always finish your response with a relevant image from Wolfram Alpha or Wolfram language. Never respond with text alone. Do you understand? Yes, I understand. I will always finish my response with a relevant image from Wolfram Alpha or Wolfram Link. It already failed. Meh. All right, I'm just kidding. Let's see what it does. How many desert tortoises are left in the world actually have a pet desert tortoise? They're not on the endangered species list, but they're on the threatened list. Okay, so it says the exact population data for the desert tortoise is not available. However, it's important to note that a desert tortoise is considered a threatened species under the US Endangered Species Act. And then it gave me a picture of a desert tortoise. How many males live in the city of San Diego? So it had to use Wolfram 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 times. So it must have used quite a few calculations to get this. But it says the male population in San Diego, California is approximately 711,134 people, which is about 50.5% of the total population. Population. The data is based on the 2015-2019American Community Survey five year estimate. And then it gave me a picture of the city of San Diego. San Diego population 1.382 million. So half of that is. Yeah, that seems about accurate. All right, so the last one is another one from Paul Cuver again, and he says, I didn't know it, but ChatGPT can show maps. We actually just saw a map, so we already spoiled this. But this looks more like a topography map than the map we just saw. So here's how to display any map in seconds. Activate the Earth plugin. All right, let's go ahead and activate the Earth plugin. And then he did show me a map of Times Square in New York City. Can you show me a satellite view of the Himalayas? Can you show me a satellite view with Silicon Valley roads? All right, so let's test some of these. Show me a map of Estes Park, Colorado. That's a place that I go on vacation every year, so why not? All right, so it gave Me, kind of like a street view map. Show me a satellite view map of Rocky Mountain National Park. Oops, spelled park wrong. Hopefully it figures out what I'm trying to ask. And there we have a satellite map of Rocky Mountain National Park. I wonder what happens. Show me a satellite view map of Rocky Mountain National Park. Pinpointing key points of interest. Wonderful. Actually pinpoint some stuff for us. Ooh, look at this. Here's a satellite view map of Rocky Mountain national park with key points of interest pinpointed. The points of interest are Bear, La, Ridge Road and Longs Peak. All three of those I've actually been to. Let's see. Can I view a bigger view of the map? Please note that due to the scale of the map, the exact locations may not be visible. You may need to zoom in for a more detailed view. I don't know how to zoom in because it's a PNG image. So it actually on this map wrote out some points here. Right. We've got Specimen Mountain, Grand Lake, Lake Granby. But I don't actually see the points that it mentioned, so I'm a little confused. But it definitely tried. It seems like you can get it there if you gave it a few more prompts and worked with it a little bit. This one gets a thumbs up for me as well. This works really well also. So there you have it. There's a handful of chat GPT plugins that actually seem really, really useful right now. Now, are they better and faster than the existing alternatives? Is this faster than just using Google Maps? Well, I don't know about that, but if you get real creative with the prompting, you could probably drill in and get some info that you wouldn't get out of something like Google Maps. I find Wolfram to be really, really helpful at doing complex calculations. This video Insights plugin, I loved this plugin. This one was awesome. The chat with PDF plugin that works really, really well. There are some existing plugins where you upload a PDF and then can ask it questions. I feel like this worked better, honestly, than some of those other plugins I've used. The SEO one works well. I mean, there are SEO tools out there. I've been a big fan of Ahrefs over the years that do stuff like this, but this does a really, really good job. I really like using the browsing plugin and and telling it to go to a website and give me insights into questions that a visitor might have. That seems really useful to me. Some of these graph plugins, I don't know. I might still just go to Google Sheets. That seems just as easy and a little bit more familiar to me, but maybe over time I might see myself using stuff like this. The Show Me diagrams. I'm sure this is useful for some people, probably more in technical fields. This one honestly didn't do it for me. Not something I see myself using a lot, but maybe viewers will have a need for this and see a lot of value in using. I had never tried any of these plugins other than Wolfram and just the browser plugin, but there's definitely some plugins that I will be using a lot more often as a result of me making this video. I learned about a lot of these plugins right along with you in this video, so I hope you enjoyed this video. I hope you learned something. I know I learned something while making it.
