Corey Geary: Balancing Real Estate and Crypto for Financial Freedom
29 Oct 2024 · 53 min
Corey Geary spent a decade in real estate before moving full-time into crypto, using four-year market cycles to alternate between wealth creation in crypto and wealth preservation in real estate. He breaks down DeFi basics, security practices like hardware wallets, and the behavioral mistakes that sink most traders.

Crypto and real estate seem like they're on opposite sides of the investor spectrum. I thought so, but I was shown that that's different. That's wrong. I'm going to show you how a former real estate investor discovered crypto has this predictability with four year cycles and he breaks all of this down for us as well and how he's used this predictive cycle to create more wealth than he's done in in a decade's worth of real estate deals. So the best part is he said that this strategy is about to heat up right now as we drop this video. So dig in there, enjoy. And before you actually go too far, make sure to pause and go check out the AI clone of this episode that you can talk with actually trained on this episode so you can get a whole bunch of actionable materials like the specifics of what is said here by Corey Geary. You have a cool, cool story that I don't really know a ton about, but I would love to get into it and just everything that. Because we've had a few calls, what back and forth now about just different ways to support each other and your partner Dane, I know is usually on those. He's not here right now, but I know you guys are kind of like a duo. You guys pop around all over the place. So if someone's seen you, they probably know Dane as well. Or vice versa. Yeah, I mean, like we got connected because you're doing some cool stuff in the. Well, I mean it's. It's a lot of crypto stuff which, you know, this odd. This audience kind of has had a taste of it. I took the show there for a while, but we did a little bit more. It was like gaming and a whole. It was a whole pivot. So the whole show kind of. And I think it lost some people. So I'm just calling it out right now that like, it's cool to have you here because it's a fresh perspective. Perspective. It's a different angle and. Yep. And you didn't, you know, you came from a whole world like, you know, real estate and all this stuff that I think a lot of people can relate to. So. Yeah, I don't know. Just some initial thoughts there and then I want to get into your.
Yeah, you know, we'll tie it, you know, home with the real estate stuff probably somewhere in the show. But I mean, our mission is to use cryptocurrency as a wealth creation tool and real estate as a wealth preservation tool. And kind of when I dive into my story, you'll understand how this all came about. And we just tackle crypto from a different perspective. You know, we're buying holders. We treat our crypto just like real estate. You know, we buy, we hold and we make passive income with our crypto while the cycle is telling us that we can do this. Now, crypto works in four year cycles and it works like clockwork. It's really remarkable how it does this. Imagine in real estate if you had a crystal ball or even in the stock market or anywhere you had a crystal ball and you knew exactly where all the bear markets were at and all the bull markets were at. There isn't such thing in legacy or in real estate, but in crypto there is. It works by the four year cycle down to, you know, we know where we're at down to the Month. It's really remarkable. Right now we're following the cycle 98% to the T since the beginning of the year. Every, all the little altcoin seasons. Everything is right on track. And it's really, really funny how it works. And it all really, it all revolves around the global liquidity index. And that's really what comes. A lot of people think it's because of the bitcoin having. It's a misconception.
Okay.
And so, yeah, we could dive into that though. But like the cycle, it's really important. And so when the cycle tells us that, you know, the wealth creation portion of the crypto is over, then we'll go into real estate. And we were real estate guys at heart. And I'll kind of tell you that in our story. You know, I was in real estate for a whole decade. And in our community we have 230, 230 real estate guys in there that we are teaching crypto right now. But they get deals, man. We got apartment syndicators in there, mobile home park guys, self storage unit guys, and the house flippers too, because that's what our background is. And so they're all in there and we're going to be going into their deals and their syndications. I want to be the money in deals. I never want to find another deal ever again or run a deal now if I had to, of course I would.
That's a lot of work.
It's like, yeah, it's painful. And so, yeah, so that's kind of the full picture how we're combining these asset classes together. And we might even bring in real estate to the blockchain where some of these deals are funding, we will bring to the blockchain to get them funded. And we're still working some of those pieces out. And that wouldn't be for another probably six months to a year. Ideally, coming at the top of the market cycle off the idea like, hey, preserve your wealth, crypto guys, you just made a bunch of money, like, stop gambling it away. Come in here, preserve the wealth on real estate. And that way you might have some money for the next bear market to invest in again. So it's kind of the idea behind that. But that's something that we're working on down the road.
Yeah, man, I mean, this is. You already have me at this whole four year cycle. And maybe let's just like close that gap really fast before the stories and stuff. Because initially I was like, whoa, how do you know that? And also, you know, crypto hasn't been along around as long as let's say the full on market, stock market and all that and even real estate. But yeah, tell me a little bit about like you already said, the global liquidity index.
Yep.
Like explain that maybe some of the why and how is this all possible?
We're in the fourth cycle right now and so up to this point, you know and of course it could change, you know, one way or the other. All we can do is look back in history and say okay, what's held true? And it's really remarkable that these four year cycles play out to the T in crypto. The global liquidity index. That's just when the, there's a chart for it and actually I could probably bring it up, I got to find it. But every four years the in the world the governments and the World Economic Forum and that's when usually money printing starts. And it doesn't start with one nation state. A bunch of nation states start doing that. And you know I think, I think Japan started printing money. We have a couple, well we're gonna probably start printing money by the end of the year. And so there's already a couple nation states that are follow, you know, leading the pack already. But it happens every four years like clockwork. And it usually happens around the presidential election which is what we got right now. That's every four years. Right. And so Satoshi Nakamoto, he's the creator of bitcoin. I think he, he, he saw these things and he's like, you know what, let me put the bitcoin having which is just a where the supply gets cut in half for your listeners, for the miners. That's all it means. I want to get too deep in the weeds on it but like it creates a scarcity effect. But that alone is not what in my opinion pushes up the market cycles. It's all the liquidity get flooded in into the world into. And what happens when people get a little bit top heavy on liquidity? They put it in risk on assets. That's where you where it goes. And crypto is the riskiest of assets. In fact when they say the Russell, the stock market Russell which is just all like the crap stocks and put in one index. They say when the Russell starts topping and making new all time highs that money, that's an indicator that the crypto is about to like go parabolic.
Ah.
You watch the Russell and the Russell, guess what it does. It follows the four year cycles. Go back and trace it. It's every four years it Makes an all time new high. And so it's funny how this works now. Doesn't mean that all stock market works this way or real estate. In fact, it doesn't work that way in the stock market world or real estate. Now I'm sure this has some effect on it, but since crypto is such just a speculative risk on it's based off of like, you know, people and how much liquidity got. It completely runs and falls around that global liquidity index. And when it runs it can do, I mean anywhere from like, you know, 2, 3, 4x up to hundreds of X's. It's highly volatile and when the bear market comes, you need to get your liquidity out because it can drop from anywhere from 75 to 99% of your economic value versus the dollar. Now you still have your coins, right? You don't lose the coins when this happens, but the value of, the value of those coins have been demolished. And this happens every single bear market. And man, you could tell, go back and look at the cycles. The top is always somewhere in the middle of the year. So we're expecting June or July will be the bitcoin top of 2025. And after the top to the T one year later is when the absolute bottom is in. And so this last bottom was the FTX collapse. Everyone looks at stuff and goes, okay, well it was because of ftx. No, the FTX happened because of the event. Like it's really funny. Like that's why the good TA guys can tell you where we're going without hearing the news. And then they can hear the news and be like, oh yeah, I know that because the chart told me. The chart told me where we're going. The real good TA guys, and I'm not a great TA guy, but I am a market, I am a market cycle student, I will tell you that. But, and we have guys smarter than us who do our TA for us and they could, they could see this stuff, man, coming a mile away. So the FTX collapse, it was foretold, it was going to happen before it even happened. Even though, you know, a lot of people got hurt in that collapse. But that marked the bitcoin bottom in this last cycle and Ethereum bottom around a week or two right after. And then, then the cycle starts over again. It's rinse and repeat and it's just every four years. And so you just want to be a student of the cycle. You want to know where you're at in the cycle. You could kind of gauge where you're at down to the month. Does that mean it's going to hold 100% true? No. You have to be ready for an outlier.
Yep.
Something happens. I don't think anyone's predicting Covid to happen when it absolutely wrecked the charts. But if you look at the charts, it was only a blip on the chart and then it shot right back up and the bull market was still on. It was like if you were there to buy, you made a bunch of money, but other than that, you were good. And so there are things that can happen to throw a wrench. But just becoming a student of the cycle is the biggest thing anyone can do in crypto besides getting their security in order. And that way they know where they're at and they can position themselves accordingly with their capital to make the gains.
Dude, that already is. You just describe that in such a different way than I've ever understood it before. And I've. I'm doing some searching. I always, like during my episodes I use Perplexity AI because it's pulling in. It's like Google search but like accurate and pulling in data and real time. So I'm seeing what you're saying. Like I'm like comparing the Russell 2000 to Bitcoin and like it shows a chart.
Look at the global liquidity index, man. That's a whole other chart in itself. It has this like.
Yeah.
And it tells you when the. The global equity is ticking up and they go zen. It does this every four years. And I don't know if it's been that way since we've been off like the gold standard or what. But like it's, it's, it's crazy how it works and how this whole munting, printing Ponzi that we're on is if you in many ways can be predictable.
I mean, that's the thing. And, and elections, obviously politics. There's all the other factors. I mean it makes a lot of sense. And I think wasn't there just a meeting with. Or maybe it was months back but not that long ago in Vienna or something like that where a bunch of the people got together. Economic Forum, Global Economic Forum. Maybe it was.
Ethereum founder was there and all that stuff. So it's like everybody's working together at least to. There's these timing frames and time frames and everybody's kind of talking to each other, it seems like so.
Yep.
And I like the frame that you said about, you know, the wealth generation preservation, you know, so you have the crypto on this side Which I think people aren't thinking of the cycles and what they do at certain times.
And they treat it like a casino.
Bingo. So let's talk about that, because I think that's why people maybe shy away immediately. And I want to smash that, because. Yeah, let's just talk about that now.
So everything we do in our life, whether we're buying or selling something, I don't care if you're buying a car, if you're selling your laptop, everything we do is based off emotion. In fact, if you get into cells, you'll really dive deep into emotion and the psychology behind that and how to, like, basically help guide the cell through someone's emotions. And basically what happens is when things are doing good or going up, it's just, it's. It's human nature. We want to buy that thing and get involved. And so what happens is that when these cycles take place, nobody's wanting to buy when everyone thinks, everyone thinks crypto is dead. Nobody wants to buy when things are collapsing.
Not sexy.
It's just human emotion. We want to walk away from it, we want to run from it. It's actually the opposite. It's the old Warren Buffett saying, you buy when people are fearful and you sell when they're greedy. It never holds more true in crypto. This is like, you have to live by that in crypto. And by the time people are interested in this asset class, they're seeing on the five o' clock news how people are getting rich and there's people driving Lamborghinis and there's all these, you know, these jpeg selling for $5 million and all the things that are going on, you know, the Hollywood actors are all involved now, and it's like, that's when somebody, your normal guy is like, oh, you know what? I'll try this crypto things. A lot of people are making money and what's happening is they're coming in and they're buying the top. And this is how most people get involved in crypto. I say 9 out of 10 because of their emotion, they come in by the top and they get absolutely destroyed. Because what happens is after that, the bear market comes and destroys it and rinses them out. And this happens every single cycle. It's the guys who stick around and who really start treating it like an asset class and learning how to do due diligence, how to research founders, how to research communities, how to, how to research the code. Like the guys who stick around and actually become a student of the asset class. The ones who are successful the next cycle. So the next cycle comes, these guys are riding the wave up and it rinses their apiece. These guys are coming in, and then they're all taking profits while the new wave of retail is coming in. So this is exit liquidity. So at one point in time, most of us have been exit liquidity. And then it's up to us whether or not we want to learn this asset class or walk away and point to and call it a scam.
It's fair.
It's what it boils down to. It so that, that is the importance of this, because it will destroy you if you don't understand how this asset class works. And you treat it like a casino, throwing money around as any. When. When everyone else is making money. And so, yeah, maybe your. Your Uber driver said, hey, go buy Coin x. I made 20 grand, man. Go home and sell your whole portfolio if that happened. Because, like, that's a top signal in crypto for us guys now. That's a top signal, like, get out.
Yeah. When you see, like the celebrities, you know, up in there, whatever. Yeah. It's too late. Yeah. Printing them on their basketball shoes or whatever. I remember, like that whole. I was like, dang, this is wild. Like, used to be his underground thing. And all of a sudden, now it's everywhere. Yeah, yeah, got it.
Yes.
So by that time, I'm sure you're in real estate or you're focused a lot more over there. I'm imagining.
Yeah, I'll kind of give you. It's probably a good time to kind of give you a little bit of my story and background. I came from real estate. I did real estate for a decade. It's actually how I became an entrepreneur. And I even tell people real estate saved my life because when I got into real estate, an entrepreneur, I was going nowhere, man. I was an alcoholic, I was a drug addict. I was single, I. And I was living that rock and roll lifestyle, man. I was going to my deathbed was where I was going.
How'd you get into that lifestyle? Was it business or was it like real estate or some other stuff?
No, that's how I was living my life before real estate. Right.
When I was just normal, you know. I was a blackjack dealer before real estate. I was a Blackjack dealer for 15 years, man. We would just party like crazy. It was non stop drugs, alcohol and women. That's all it was. That's all it was. And so, like, I got in the real estate because of one reason I Was chasing the dollar. I used to watch that fix or flop show with Terra Kamusa. Most people know that show. And my girl I was dating at the time, she was a part time realtor, a part time blackjack dealer. We used to love watching that show. She's like, why don't you fix up a house and, and flip it so I can list it? And I was like, yeah, seems easy enough. These guys are making 80 grand in 20 minutes. Look like I'll try.
It's that easy. Yeah, right.
Easy, right. My first one took me six months and I made eight grand.
Oh, man.
Second one, I did okay. My third one, I lost my life savings. I lost everything. I lost my, you know, the money I saved up working in the, for the casino for 15 years. I lost my 401k money. I had to get a 401k loan out to flip these houses and like. So it wiped me, it wiped me to zeros around 250 grand. I didn't want to give up real estate. And that's how I got into wholesaling. Wholesaling is where you're just flipping the paper. And so I hired a mentor. I joined a mastermind. I didn't want to quit. And I tell people, by joining those masterminds and hiring the mentors that I did in my life, it forced me to level up every area of my life. So my four pillars, I lean on spiritual, mental, physical and financial. Financials being last. But what this did is it focused me on leveling up spiritually, mentally and physically. And that's what eventually led to me. The discovering of, like, I, I, the problems that I was dealing with since I was a child. I learned how to love myself and I, I was able to go sober. I've been sober from, you know, almost five years. I have a family, I live in Puerto Rico. And that's all due to real estate. Like me chasing the dollar in the very beginning is what saved my life. And so it's, I give all that credit to real estate and my entrepreneurial journey. But also through that journey I had was very successful when it came to money wise. I was doing anywhere from 20 to 60 deals a month. I had a big team. It was insane. It was insane. I had a big team. I was working 15, 16 hours a day. I was in multiple lawsuits at any given time. I had a lawsuit going on with the attorney general. It was insane. I had no peace whatsoever in my life. I don't know if you or your audience have ever read the book the untethered Soul by Michael Singer.
Yeah, it's a good one.
Phenomenal book. Teaches you how to stop clawing your way in life to success or whatever. You try to achieve your purpose. Right. And let God or the universe. For me, it's God to guide your way in life to success. And so I really went on a spiritual journey. In 2022. I already have been dabbling with cryptocurrency, and I could really feel the pull on that because I was having a little bit of success with it. And I knew that in the last cycle, there was more millionaires and billionaires born out of crypto than in any other asset class, including real estate. In fact, it was 88,000 millionaires and billionaires born in 2020 and 21 out of cryptocurrency. Millionaires and billionaires that held their money, too. That means they participated from the previous bear market. Right.
So they've gone through this whole cycle stuff you just described.
Exactly, exactly. So I knew that. I knew that crypto was the highest appreciating asset class known to mankind. I was like, look, what would happen if I focus. I focus 10,000 hours on real estate? I built this business. I'm good at it. What would happen if I focus all my time and energy here? And that's where the kind of like the light bulb went on. And that's what I did. That's when I shut down my real estate company. I moved my family to Puerto Rico, and here we are, we do crypto full time. And now I have all the time freedom I want. I do what I want, with whom I want, however I want. That's how I define success. I mean, I love money, but, like, what we're. Where are we all really at? There's time freedom. Like, that's to be able to, like, create. You can't buy that. You need money. You do have to have money to get there. But money's just a tool. That's all it is. So I can achieve this. Right? Like, I want to be able to create memories and experiences with my family now. Because I do believe that's the one thing we take with us when we pass away. It's not the Lamborghinis. It's not the houses.
Right.
It's just not how it works. But the memories of my daughter and me being a good dad with her, man, I'm taking that beyond the grave. Right?
And she's keeping it too. You're implanting it, you're sharing it. So she spreads that. So, right.
I'm Gone. It's still going on.
Yeah.
So that's the stuff that's very important to me these days. But that's kind of my story in a nutshell, man. And as I broke off from real estate, I was even doing real estate coaching at the time. A lot of my guys are like, dude, what are you doing? Are you crazy? Like, what? Yeah. They're like, are you out of your mind? And I was like, man, here's what I'm making. I mean, like, I, you know, I just, I'm miserable in real estate and this is taking off and I'm making passive income. I'm not trading it. I'm buy, hold, make passive income. And they're like, teach us. Like, okay. And so like Dane had already started doing that, I know you mentioned at the beginning of the show. And so we ended up joining forces. And yeah, a lot of the guy, A lot of the, A lot of the guys in the crypto community was in my real estate community. And a lot all these guys still, most of all of them, there's a couple that went full time crypto, but most of them still do real estate. You know, we give them, you know, the old risk speech that anyone should get. Look, hey, invest what you're comfortable losing. You know, if you're, if you're comfortable with 1%, great, 5%, great. Of course, if you're, if you're comfortable, more, better. But we want to make sure that you can sleep good at night and so that everyone's gone all in like us. They still do real estate, which is great. We want that. We want those entrepreneurs in our community. So, like, to your point earlier, when it comes time, we're going to be going back in their deals with our capital and this time it'll be the money in the deal. So we could be the limited partners.
Rather than you putting them together and.
Putting the deal together and running the teams and all that. Yeah, I don't ever want to run a deal or find a deal ever again unless I had to. The great part is I have that skill set at least finding deals, you know, and so that's kind of the full vision of what we're doing, man. And we teach these guys right now, while the market's telling us to do it, on how to do true decentralized finance and do liquidity providing and do staking and mining, all the things that you can do to passive and create passive income with crypto.
So that's where that's what I was going to get to is okay. You made your transition over to crypto, you decided to go full time. Doesn't mean everyone needs to do that, of course. And you're obviously coaching and work with a lot of people that kept in their industry and they're using crypto as. Yeah, that passive income side to supplement or enhance whatever they're already doing. Yeah, let's talk about that. And like before even describing defi and all that, I want to get into and have you at least, you know, define some of the stuff you just talked about right now, like staking and all that. But it's like what, what do you commonly see someone starting their path in crypto? Like say they have a business right now, they're curious, like, what does that typical experience look like?
Yeah, it's a great question. And with, as far as money is concerned, you know, we, we tell them, hey, you need to be investing money, that it gets you excited. Like if you got a 20x on your portfolio today, that makes you excited and actually does. Maybe it doesn't have to like be completely life changing, but it makes some decisions for you very appealing. Right, like changes. Yeah, it changes stuff. But at the same time you don't want to be in the place where you're losing sleep at night because you're overexposed. You're not comfortable enough with the asset class. You know, you know, you're, it's just digits on the screen. A lot of people are very uncomfortable or you can't feel or touch your money or see where it's at. And so people have to get comfortable. I think. Who was it that said this? I think it was Warren Buffett or Charlie Munger. Is that you have to first become a student of the asset class and then you could build your confidence. Your confidence leads to more putting more liquidity in and then that leads to success. That's totally true with crypto. If you come in and overexpose yourself, you're, you're going to end up wrecking yourself because you'll sell too early. You'll get what's called flooded out, which stands for fear, uncertainty and doubt. And you're just not going to have the right mindset to weather the, you know, the small storms all the way through the bull market. And so for somebody coming in, we'll, we'll talk about, you know, everyone's different, right? Everyone's finances are different. Everyone's got a little bit of a different business. And we'll talk about where they're at in life and what their goals and what their risk profile looks like. And we'll help them with that decision. And we hold them by the hand, we literally like walk them step by step on how to get money from Legacy, which is your bank, into the blockchain. And we interact directly with the blockchain. We engage the code. There's no middleman. We don't use centralized exchanges. And so we teach people how to do that. And that's the learning curve is how to do real crypto without centralized entities in the middle.
Okay.
And we teach them all how to do that. And so and we hold them by the hand to make sure that they got the security set up. Because what's the point of having making any money in any asset class if you're going to get robbed? Like, you got to make sure there. Yeah, exactly. This is an unregulated asset class. So the bad guys are there. They're there.
Go to pause this for a moment.
Shout out.

And so you want to make sure that you're preparing yourself and you have the proper security posture in place to get ready. Even if your portfolio is not worth a lot now, like say it's worth only a few grand right now, that few grand can turn to a lot when the top of the bull is in and you want to, you want to position yourself in a way now that it's millions of dollars. Right. And so we teach people how to use a hardware wallet and how to use multiple wallet strategies with the, you know, hidden passphrases. Have a dedicated crypto laptop. This is the only laptop that engages with the blockchain. It does nothing else. It doesn't go and answer emails. It's not going on to online gambling sites or whatever, you know, your thing. It only does one purpose and that's to eliminate surface attack from the scammers. And so we teach all the security in place and then we go through and talk about and teach even due diligence. We talk about what we're investing in, why we're investing in them. We can never give financial advice. We show them where we're finding the due diligence, you know, and how much even we've invested into these different assets. And we like finding assets that have never seen a bull run. Because, I mean, you can go buy Bitcoin right now.
It's great.
Bitcoin's great, don't be wrong. But you might get a 3-4x if you're really lucky on this.
You're not getting the 20x on a, on a. Yeah.
I mean the days. I mean, Bitcoin did a 6.5 millionx from bottom to the last. Crazy. You're not getting a net at 6.5 millionx, especially not in this cycle. Like there had to be something close crazy that would happen to, to really send it to that parabolic. It's just a very established asset. Now it's almost blue chip that even the volatility to the downside is dampened. Last time it only dropped about 74% where usually it drops like 85% plus. So it's starting to damp. Even the volatility started to dampen out. And that's fine for like legacy finance. Now we have the Bitcoin ETFs. Ethereum is kind of following suit. You have the ETS there. So if you want a more conservative route, you could go buy just Bitcoin, Ethereum. And that's great, get 3 to 5x in your money. But I can get that flipping houses. I'm not here to get a 3x on my money over the course of a year and a half, two years. I'm here to make substantial gains and only do that being early. You get to find blockchains that have never seen a bull run. You know, stuff that's got community, that's got good fundamentals, tokenomics, every. All the underlying things that we look for, that's never seen a market cycle. And that's where you can get the real gains. Then you won't have know how much you're going to. It could be a 10, 20, 30x or it could be multiple hundreds of X's. Who knows? Because it's never seen a bull run. That's the beautiful part about it. And that's what we look for. We find, we fly. We find blockchains like that.
Wow. And that's okay. Yeah. So there's. There's so much I don't know. And I'm sure people are probably listening and be like, holy moly, Corey. All right, Dwight does it sounds like it needs to be a full time thing for me to understand and wrap my head around it. But especially when you're not using kind of the exchanges, kind of the middleman, right? Crypto, your entryway that already in itself. I was like, oh, dang. Yeah. This is a different way to play the game.
It's the real way. It's the way Satoshi Nakamoto meant it to be. He wrote bitcoin code to be completely decentralized and defy. And what does man do with everything? Man screws up everything, man. We took it and we centralized it and we put it on centralized exchanges. Banks own it. Central, you know, governments own it. Now it's like it's anything but decentralized. But there's still a lot of crypto out there that is decentralized. But that was the vision, the initial vision. Mr. Toshi wrote the code in the white paper. He wanted us to be our own banks. He wanted us to have self sovereignty. He wanted to give power back to the people and decouple it from the big banks and centralized entities and the governments of the world that are slowly boiling us like the frog and the kettle. Right. That analogy where we're losing all our freedoms. He wanted to give us freedom to transact censorship resistant, peer to peer, permissionless money. That's what true crypto is. And that word permissionless, I love it. Nothing in our life is permissionless. Nothing. You go to dinner tonight with your wife you're going to pay for that dinner with a credit card, right? And that credit card, you need a permission from the bank to pay for that dinner. Even if you want cash, you got to go to the bank and get permission from the bank to pull that cash out. There's nothing in our life that requires that everything has permission now. And so true crypto is permissionless. And that's one of the few things we have the right to transact is a human right. And it's been stripped away from us slowly. And so Satoshi saw that and that's why bitcoin was written. Now it's getting screwed up a little bit and we're starting to see some, you know, other things happening with it. But there's still a lot of crypto out there that, that stays true to the ethos, if you will.
I get you. It's kind of like, I mean I talk about it when I coach folks on AI or using that for your business. It's like, hey, you don't have to. There's a bunch of tools. Everybody's coming up with tools all day. It's confusing everybody, but yeah, but there's engines that live underneath those tools. Things like the OpenAI or anthropic like the ones that actually have all the data and everything's built on top of, you know, and it's kind of like, it's like any kind of blockchain really, you know, bitcoin being one of them. And yeah, now there's these layers, these exchanges or whatever else that people are building on top of these blockchains or tapping into. So that's a good reminder. Cool, we'll talk about defi. Like you mentioned some of these things because you guys I think specialize or at least you spent a lot of time there.
That's all we do.
Yeah, there you go. Even better. So describe what it is, some of the things that us at this level we should be knowing about.
So the word defi, it's just short for decentralized finance, that's what it's short for. And kind of what I talked about a little bit earlier with the bitcoin and satoshi, the ethos of us being our own bank and having some self sovereignty and having censorship resistant transactions. That is true defi. So defi is where you're your own custodian, you're going to take custodian of your own crypto, meaning if you go buy Ethereum, you're going to hold Ethereum on your own hardware wallet, you're Your own bank. You're not going to trust Coinbase, you're not going to trust Binance, they're not going to be holding your Ethereum, because, I mean, Brian Warner is probably a great guy. He owns Coinbase, I'm sure he's great, but, like, you don't know what he's doing to your money. Behind the scenes, everyone thought FTX was like, the best thing since sliced bread. In fact, they were the premier centralized exchange for the United States. Yeah, it's wild. And what was San Bakeman fraud doing in the background, gambling all your money away by trading embezzling money, sending money to it. I don't want to get into it, but, like, there's a lot. Look at it was doing.
Yeah, yeah.
And so, like, you just don't know. So, like, you need to control your finances. Even when you keep money in the bank, like bank of America, you don't know what's happening behind the scenes with your money. With bank of America, if they go under that, you know, you have your money that's insured up to, like, think it's 250, 250,000. But above that, like, you're not, like. And if they go and lose all your money and the government doesn't insure it past 250, well, then you just. You're out. You're out. Right, you're out. And so, like, this is where your. Your own custodian, you're going to use your crypto and you're going to learn how to engage the blockchain. The blockchain, the actual blockchain. All it is is a big open ledger. That's all it is, the ledger. And a unit of county on that ledger. So who owns what, how much of what, who transferred what, where, and that's all it is. It's just a. It's a database. It's all blockchain is. And in fact, I'll tell you how what blockchain means. So you have a ledger. The data gets put in the ledger, that ledger gets full, because at one point you're full on information. This ledger is called a block. The block is sealed, it's pushed down the line. It's always going to stay in the line forever. And a new block is created. That's why it's called blockchain, because you can look back all the way from the very first ledger ever created, whether it be Bitcoin, Ethereum, Pulsechain, Avalanche, these different blockchains, and you can see the Genesis block, and they always exist. And that ledger is there for everybody to go and look at. Like it's full and open source and you can't, you can't manipulate it or do bad things. And so that's, that's blockchain. So you're going to engage with the blockchain. Things are built on the blockchain. For example, I'll give you one use, real simple use case that really will make sense for your listeners.
Yeah.
So you have what's called decentralized exchanges, and these are built on the blockchain. This is where we buy our assets. Because I don't buy my assets from coinbase or crypto.com. so where do these assets come from? When they come from us? Mean you. So say I own Ethereum and I own Hex. Hex is another crypto. You get to own these two. You could put them in a liquidity pool. The marketplace would come to this decentralized exchange, and it's built on top of the Ethereum network. They can swap in between those assets from whatever asset they have. And you're providing the liquidity. Basically, you become the coinbase now and you're making all the fees. That's where the passive income part comes interesting. You get to make all the fees that Coinbase had been making. And you're doing it with just code on the blockchain.
You are the bank in this.
You're the bank. And you just got the opportunity that only big centralized entities like Coinbase can afford and crypto.com and all these other ones or other banks. You got that opportunity to provide the liquidity and make all the fees. And that's done directly on the blockchain. It's just one. One example of one use case of a protocol. We call them protocols built on top of the blockchain.
Yeah. So that, what you described is a protocol.
That's a protocol. Yeah.
Got it. Yep. And that's the thing. There's all these terms because I remember getting in there and I learned a lot, man. Yeah. But it's like you can always relate it to something that you probably understand, like how a bank works generally, or an exchange of money or some kind of currency and there's a fee associated. Okay. Boom. Cool. Boom.
Or a business. Right. Like you could call a protocol. Okay. That's the business built in the city. The city's the blockchain. And then of course, cities have businesses. That's what it's all about is usually serving each other. And so, like. Well, on the blockchain, the same thing they Build these protocols and they have different use cases. People come and use them, they pay a fee. But the interesting part is, where does that fee go if it's just code? Oh, it goes to us.
Yeah. The owner of that protocol, the one.
Who created it by you owning their crypto, it's like almost owning shares in a company. I'll tell a lot of people. It's like owning shares in a company. You get paid the dividends. Except for, like, unlike Coca Cola, you get paid dividends. View on them, they have like, CEOs, management teams. They got like the overheads. It was ridiculous. Right. And crypto, there's. There isn't that.
Yeah, yeah. I mean, the overhead is literally whatever you make it. Right. It's the. And it's built into the let or the code itself, so. Or the contract, in that case. Right, Contract.
Smart contracts. These are also called smart contracts, what we're discussing here.
Yep. Okay. Got it. And that's what's beautiful. It's on the blockchain, you can see the code. And that's probably why you mentioned study code. Right? Or get.
Yeah.
Know each other.
Or at least learn how to read audits. Because every good protocol will go out and get their code audited by someone who can read code and spot, you know, problems. Because, I mean, the code's written by a human, and you want to make sure that the code is audited and that it doesn't have any issues. And that's what we do in all our protocols that we invest in, make sure the code's out of there. But most of the stuff that we're investing in has been forked. Forked means copied. That's just a fancy word for copy. And it's been copied over from another blockchain, and it's already been in existence for a year, up to five years. So if it's been forked. So it's been around for two years and the code has also been audited. I'm good. The audit came back clean. Like, yeah, let's go put some money in this thing and earn some money. So I'm good to go. So. But we do do a lot of due diligence on everything we do. Because, I mean, you should. Anytime you put money into anything, when you do a real estate deal, like, I'm going to go in there, crunch all the numbers and figure out how much I going to make on this deal and even try to factor in unknowable, because there's stuff that comes up. It's just always the Reality with real estate. It's the same thing with crypto.
I was going to ask about due diligence and I was curious. Now with AI, it's so good at analyzing documents and code. Any best practices and are you using AI or some kind of process there to kind of aid in some of it?
We have ran code through AI and the AI will read the code and it will tell you if it sees any issues inside the code. But I mean, I'd rather still rely on a audit.
Yeah.
But yeah, we've definitely. You can even ask AI to write code or do the fork for you. Yeah, I'm sure you say, hey, AI, go to Uniswap on Ethereum and I want you to write me the same code. But, you know, we're going to put it on this blockchain and we're going to maybe change this and this. Right. It'll do it. It's insane. What it's.
That's what's nuts. It's getting really good at code right now.
It's insane, man. How the future of AI and crypto, I can't even imagine. Like when my daughter, she's three, I can't imagine when she's my age. I'm 47.
Another world, man. Another world. It's exciting to think about. I hope I will be alive.
You will.
I will be alive.
A lot of stuff will happen in that gap in time.
But besides code, you do you definitely want to do research on the founders, you want to do research on the communities, you want to know what the underlying fundamentals are, you want to know what the tokenomics are on how the tokens work and why should you buy? Is it built to pump? What's it going to do? Like, for example, Pulse X on the pulsechain blockchain. Pulsex buys and burns its own token. So anytime someone uses the decentralized exchange, they take a little bit out of the fee that the decentralized exchange would have made anyways. And it buys up and burns that token. And that's ever going always.
That's called scarcity play then, right?
Yeah, it's called a tokenomic to give it a deflationary effect. It doesn't mean it's going to pump to the moon tomorrow, people. But the one thing that rules over everything is buy and sell pressure. Market conditions. That's just standard market conditions. But over the long haul, it does and should affect, you know, the performance. So you look at stuff like that, you look at stuff like that, the fundamentals, like, what does this Protocol do. What is it. What's it trying to do? I'll give you another example. There's a protocol on Pulsechain. You can go in and you can. You can leverage trade. Now, we don't leverage trade. It's not what we do. We're buying hold investors, but other people will, and they can go out and take a leverage long or a leverage short. And while they're holding that leverage position open, they have to pay a fee by the hour. All this stuff, like, once again, it's just code. And those fees get paid to the stakers of the coin holder that's tied to the protocol. What's like, almost like a stock dividend?
Yep. Yep. Yeah, you're.
You're.
You're getting paid to hold that specific coin. In this case, yeah.
Because you're making passive income. That's a fundamental. So you want to understand what does it do or what's it trying to do? What's the vision of it? Are they still building more protocols around it? Like, what. What's. What's the future? What does it have A community, a cult? Like, community is what we look at in every single protocol or blockchain. You want. You want, like, early Apple cult, like, even early Bitcoin. They call them the Cult of Satoshi. That's what they called those guys. I wish I was part of the Cult of Satoshi.
I heard about it, man, when it was like, 200 bucks and I've dumbed up. But, yeah, I know. I'm just like, ah, whatever. I'm not gonna talk about it.
When's the best time to plant a tree? 20 years ago. When's the second best time? Now?
Right now. That's right.
And it's never too late. Let's be honest. Because, like, what you're describing is it's still an emerging technology, but yet it's very early. It's so early. And maybe this is where I want to kind of leave it with some next steps for folks. And I definitely want to shout out how they get. Let's start here is like, okay, if they want to chat with you guys, what you and Dane are doing, learn a little bit more. Where do they go?
Yeah, man. So our socials are always open, and you're more than welcome to DM me or Dane, like. And that's me answering. It's not a va. It's actually me, the Corey Geary on Facebook. It's the Corey Geary on Instagram, because I think someone has already taken my name. So I think I Had to put the. The in front of there. And so we have a YouTube show, too. It's called the DeFi Crypto Alliance. On YouTube, you could look up Corey Geary, and I think the YouTube show will pop up. But you can also check out Defi Cash Flow systems dot com. And that is a introductory of our. Basically our lowest program. If you want to try to get your feet wet, just get a taste to see if this is for you. That's what that website there is for. And, yeah, I mean, reach out DME anytime, anything, Crypto. If you want more information about our community, any questions that you probably have after this podcast, I'm sure they'll be like, man, what does he mean by this, this and this? Feel free to hit us up.
Awesome. Yeah. And I know you're super accessible. You're very, very knowledgeable, and always super kind with it, too. So I love being. Yeah, I could. I know you live it and you mean it, man. And, you know, let's. Let's end it on, like, if you were to go back and, you know, obviously, like you said, you know, 20 years ago, plant the tree. You know, that whole analysis analogy. What's, like, what's something that, like, might have stopped you back then, maybe put yourself in that shoes now? I'm just trying to think, like, what's the hesitation that maybe what would move you forward to do this correctly? And, yeah, because I'm thinking there's still a lot of worry. There's still uncertainty, you know, so, like, what's the thing that would make you be like, all right, yeah, this is, you know, a new reality, something that I can at least test out. And I'll be thinking about.
I mean, I heard about bitcoin for the first time in 2013. It was, like, the beginning of 2013. I remember I was doing blackjack before I started my entrepreneurial real estate journey. And I'm sitting in the break room, and the guy who was sitting in front of me trying to tell me about this Internet money, the problem was, damn, I wish it wasn't coming from him. That guy had a history of going around and scamming people inside the casino. Yeah, like, he was a known scammer, and, like, he always had some kind of wild thing he was doing for people to invest in. And so, like, I remember when he was telling me about bitcoin for the first time, like, bro, you're such an effing scammer, dude. Get out of here. Internet money. What is. Man, that's so stupid.
Yeah, this is why I asked him, because it, like everyone has this kind of story.
I wish I went, at least went home and done a little research and digging and kind of figured out, I mean, look, it's, it is what it is. And I'm, I'm, I'm. It's better late than never. Although you're not late right now. The, the app, the actual industry is very early and new now. Bitcoin itself is a little bit, you know, I would say you're in a late cycle that's done at 6.5 millionx already. Like, I don't, like I said, I don't know if it's going to do another 6.5 million x. It could in my lifetime. But there's still a lot of new emerging blockchains and technology. There's AI stuff being integrated now with the blockchain that's emerging coming out that that's going to do really, really well and that you can make a lot of money with. Once again, if you're going to come into this asset class, be a student of the asset class. Don't gamble. That's the biggest thing I say don't come in because your neighbor made 20 grand on some random X coin. That's the wrong time to be getting involved in stuff. You want to get in it when everyone thinks it's dead and it's not going anywhere. And so we're still kind of there. We had a little bit of a altcoin season or a pump in the beginning of the year. Solana did really well. There's a couple other blockchains did really well. But now, like, everyone thinks everything's dead again. It's like, no, the next. I'll tell you, the next altcoin season will start in October, November. The next local cycle top for altcoins will be in December or January.
Oh, that fast.
And so it's fast. All coin seasons happen fast.
Okay.
And then that there'll be one last one in the middle of the year when bitcoin's topping out. Bitcoin tops out in the middle towards the middle to November ish of next year. We should see the market cycle top with bitcoin altcoin the last and final push. And altcoins will happen either a little before or after which they've gone. They've done both the previous three cycles, so we're expecting it could happen before or after. Once we get closer to the date, we'll know a little more.
Yeah.
And so that's your last, last blow. Off last push for it to make some gains and then it's, and then it's bear market time and then it's going to real estate. Go into other hard assets that you understand that you know, or you're working with people who do understand and know. And that's our, that's 100% our strategy.
Man, I love it. It's, it's literally, it's a holistic kind of strategy where you're feeling, you know, you're doing, it's trends, it's. You can do your research and you can kind of predict where you're going to make your moves, like way ahead of time.
And it won't be perfect, but you don't. Here's a crazy thing about crypto. You don't have to be perfect.
Right.
The gains are so wild, the volatility is so huge that you don't have to buy the perfect bottom and sell the perfect top.
Yep, yep. I'd say the thing, at least from my personal, you know, experience, and I'm sure you would say the same is like get the fundamentals down. Security, I would imagine. Yes.
Like, I can't express that enough.
Yeah.
Number one.
Because if you're going direct and it's like, okay, well, know what you're doing security wise, guard your stuff. I'm sure you guys have training on that and. Yep.
Oh, absolutely.
Because I know that's once you do.
Something on the blockchain, it's irreversible.
Right.
So if you send a scammer a thousand dollars, like to his private keys, you're never getting that thousand dollars back. It's gone forever. There's no one 800 help me in crypto.
Yeah. No, so that's. I'm happy. Let's. So let's end on that point actually, because it's like you really got to get that down. And that's what, that's why I lost it at first, you know, and a few grand or so, but either way it was like just me jumping in, you know, I was like, nope, bad idea. You know, like, should have done my homework on the security side. So. Yep, yep. Note to everybody. So. All right, Corey, appreciate you, man. This is fun. Go check out all the links and stuff. I'll put in the show notes. Description below. Appreciate you.
Appreciate you, Jill. Thanks for having me on.
