How to Plan Your Kid’s Birthday Party with AI

Joe Fier uses free AI tools to plan a kid's birthday party from scratch. He records the child's ideas, feeds them into ChatGPT to build a party brief, then generates custom invitations, a treasure hunt with clue cards, an original birthday song via suno.com, and a budget breakdown all under $300.

Your kid's birthday is coming up. You want to create an epic party that them, the friends, and the parents around you are going to remember. But you don't want some massive project that's going to blow the budget. I want to show you some simple ways to use AI right now, some simple prompts you can swipe, use the free tools, and wow everybody. Let's get into it. So here's the cool thing right now is that your kid's imagination and yours can literally steer how everything is created for your kid's party. And it can all be done with free tools very quickly, literally in minutes, and by chatting with your kid. And it's also going to save a bunch of money. The fun thing with this whole process, it starts with your kid's imagination and some really easy tools that I'll show you how to use. You can create things like a custom birthday invitation or an activity or a whole bunch of different cool things that you could do there in person, personalized songs, and even a shopping list and planning schedule in case you're not the master planner, which I definitely am not. I have kind of like a mock birthday. I'm walking you through a process that I'm literally using right now for my kids' parties. So take what you see here and screenshot the prompts, use them yourself, swap in your kid's name of course, or maybe different party ideas. So the first thing you want to do is actually talk with your kid and get them involved because they have a wildly more imaginative brain than most adults do because, you know, life happens. So talk with your kid and then literally bring your phone with you. Get the note-taker, you know, recording app or voice notes, whatever you use. You can even use something like granola.app. It's a free tool. It basically records and you can transcribe it. And what you want to do is ask them a few questions. And I have a few queued up here. So the first one, who or what should be at your party? So the idea there is like, okay, so who are the type of people? Who are the specific names that they want there at the party? Who are the types of characters that they might want there to be as part of the theme of the party? What should this party be about? Just let them riff. And the cool thing is you're not writing notes, you're not trying to remember all this, you're recording it. So just keep it simple. So that's the first question. The second one is, what does the world look like? So, what does it look at this party? Because with every cool party with characters and, you know, a theme, there's kind of this whole world. And that's gonna come into play when we start creating our invitations, the songs, basically the plan as a whole, and even some of the activities. And now the third one is, what would you do with your friends there? So, what are the things that you're gonna do? What are the different activities? What are the cool games that might happen or the— You know, the trivia or the food there, all these different things. Again, you want to just have this be a fun time with your kid. That's the whole point. It's going to be memorable. It's going to be customized and they won't even see it coming unless you're getting them involved in all the AI stuff too. But I kind of like that as the secret part. Now, these questions should pull out some really awesome creative ideas from your kid, maybe some things you've never heard of before. And the idea is just to capture it all. And once you do, make sure it's recorded. That's what I really— I don't want to rely on my mind. Then we save that and we take that to a tool like ChatGPT. Now what happens when you use a specific, you know, some prompts that I'll show you here is that you come up with something like this. So you literally can see a world develop from their words and their ideas. And the cool thing is that it started with their ideas. It's not asking AI or someone else, or even just going to Target to go buy someone else's imaginative characters and stories and stuff for the birthday party. It's literally being created by your kid. Now, the first step you want to do is go to a tool like ChatGPT, chatgpt.com. There's a free account, or if you really feel like paying for it, it's like $20. You want to paste in the transcription of your kid's audio. You can see this is my hypothetical situation here, my hypothetical kid birthday party. And you want to give it a prompt kind of like this. But the idea is that you want to give ChatGPT or whatever tool you're using enough information about the party from your kid, or maybe some other details you want to put in there from the grown-up side of things about your budget, the location where it's going to be, how many guests or who's going to be there on the guest list. And then with all of that in the same session, which is basically the chat thread, you then now have all the context from all the thinking that needs to be done. Now it's up to just prompting it all into existence that now you can see, hear, feel, and all that stuff. This is the first thing you wanna do is create a brief. You wanna have a brief of what this party is, and this is going to basically help write everything for the invitations and the text messages you send out and anything else from there. The prompt is pretty simple. Write a birthday invitation under 65 words for Riley, my made-up kid who's turning 7. The theme is surfing unicorns searching for a lost rainbow. Include this date. So this is the date of the party, making it up. Here's a made-up address it will be at. My name is Joe. Here's the time it is, and the tone should feel playful, personal, not commercial. If you ever get stuck on a prompt or if you just don't like mine, just ask ChatGPT. It's as simple as just talking with it. You can see here what it came up with is this little invitation. I can even edit this if I wanted to. If I didn't like something in here, I could just edit it myself. This is just a brief. That's not the fun, funnest part. This gets more fun here. Now this is where I now want to create the invitation. This is the first impression that you wanna put out there. So instead of going out somewhere to wherever, or Target to buy physical invitations, or going to Etsy or any of these other online invitation creators, which, you know, they're great, but at the same time they're not custom to you and you're going to probably spend a lot more money and you're again someone else's vision, it's not your kids or yours. Have ChatGPT create this for you. So here's the prompt and I'm going to show you what it looks like. I prompted it and said, create portrait, you know, 5 by 7 birthday invitation artwork in a charming hand-drawn style. One joyful surfing unicorn riding rainbow waves with a silly crab nearby. So basically I asked it for the layout and here is what we got. Pretty freaking good. So you got, you got flowers, you have the, the, the color palette we're talking about, the surfing unicorn over here and the crab down here hanging. And then this open space in the middle. I wanted to simplify the artwork even further. You can see what I did here is remove the unnecessary decorations, make it a little clearer, and it kind of gave me a more cleaned up version. Then we continued and I just said put the invitation words and details onto the invitation and bada bing bada boom. You can see what happened here. Riley is turning 7. Grab your imaginary surfboard and join the unicorn crew on a wild adventure to find the lost Watch out for the silly crab who hid it. These are all hints, by the way, for like little activities and things that will be at the party itself that you can completely like tie together, which is really cool. Here's the date I gave, the time, the address. Okay, so that's the invitation. And of course, you can print these things out if you wanted to, or how about just text message? You can literally right-click, download this, and boom, now you got yourself a text message. All right, so here's one that I really do like the most out of this whole thing is actually creating a fun activity at the party. And I'm gonna create a treasure hunt for Riley's party. And this got inspired a little bit from my mom and how she treats my kids. They call her Grammy. And every time they're at their house, she creates a really awesome scavenger hunt, kind of treasure hunt-y thing with a bunch of clues scattered around her house. And it's super fun. It's super memorable. My kids love it. So basically the components of this are telling AI a little bit more about what you want for this treasure hunt. What you want to do is give AI a little bit more context about the type of people that are going to be there, the ages, the number of the kids, where they can play. I'll just read the prompt. Design a cooperative 15 to 20 minute treasure hunt for 12 children ages 6 to 8. Use exactly these 5 fictional stations in this order: a welcome table, a crayon table, Cardboard surfboard sign and a paper rainbow on the fence with a prize bucket beside speaker. And the first card is handed to the group at the welcome table, and the 5th is the finale at the prize basket. Give all 12 children meaningful roles without creating duplicate clue sets. No climbing, water, roads, or leaving the supervised enclosed backyard. Include exact clue cards, adult placement keys, supplies, Fly and setup time. Check this out, it's now giving you like a full-on blown plan using the same kind of theme that we came up with. And you can see the Lost Rainbow Rescue. And remember, this actually tied back into the invitation that was all right here. So check this out, it breaks down everything. Here's the story: the silly crab that has hidden Riley's rainbow, and the 12 kids are Surfing Unicorn Rescue Team, and they have about 15 to 20 minutes all the clues, rescue the rainbow, and reach the celebration treasure. Now, if you really wanted to design these cards out and make them even more awesome, you could see, you could highlight this and say, design this clue card, and then have this run. Bam. All right, so it took about 30-ish seconds, and you could see it's pulling in the context. Now it has this clue 1, find the table with the colors to draw. Your next rainbow clue waits with the crayons. And teamwork makes the rainbows. So here you go. You have all these different cards that you can put around, but then you have like the answer keys for the adults and all that. You can see it's lining out all the supplies and everything. How about the treasure map? Here it is. So here's another prompt, and it created this treasure map that was all theme-based. I mean, like, how fun is this looking? You have the welcome table, the crayon table, the cardboard surfboard sign, the, the rainbow on the fence, and then you have the ending basket here next to the music. Here's the prompt that I used to make it: create a simple illustrated fictional backyard treasure hunt diagram, not a real venue map. Show 5 clearly separated icons connected by a rainbow dotted path. It's all there and created within seconds. And again, this gives you the full party. This is like a good 20-30 minute type chunk of the party that's core to everything and it lines up with the invitation. The kids are going to feel like they're all in it together. It's just going to be a good time to see it all happen because you literally prompted this now an activity into existence and you could watch it happen. This very next one is my personal favorite. I'm a music guy. So what's cool is these days you can literally make music out of a prompt. You can go to this tool. This one's called suno.com. Here's what an example song sounds like that I prompted.
Unicorn zooming, passing by. A silly crab hides rainbow bright. We search together day and night.
So you got that one. You have this other way. It like generates a handful every single prompt.
Birthday waves roll in today. Unicorns surf and shout hooray. A silly crab took Rainbow's They hit it past the seashell sail. Riley, Riley.
So you got like the kid's name in there, it has the theme in there. Here's the prompt that I put in here. So it's like, it's literally as easy as go to the create button and then you just plug in a prompt. I don't want to think about the prompts again, like all of that context is in that ChatGPT thread. But what it says is write original lyrics under 130 words for about a 45-second, 60-second song, children's birthday song about Riley, surfing unicorns, a silly crab hiding the lost rainbow, friends finding it together, and everyone dancing. Use a short verse, catchy chorus, and short ending. So then that's literally it right there. And then I hit create, and you can see it generates things on the right-hand side over here. You can download these right here. If you don't like it, just keep hitting generate, and then they'll create more really fast. That's all like super fun stuff and everything, but then you might be thinking like, oh, how about my budget? You know, like you said, this can save me some money. So how do we do that? Well, here is how you do that. So you build a prompt and you literally tell it a little bit more about your budget or the constraints and see how it comes up with your plan. The prompt says, build a checked arithmetic estimated budget under $300 for this fictional party. 12 children, 12 adults, 24 total. Include food, cake, drinks, 12 cups, paper, ink, treasure hunt supplies, equal prizes for 12s. And basically it goes on. Honestly, a lot of this stuff could probably been what you kind of brain dumped yourself at the top of this thread. But if you didn't have all those details, you would want a more detailed prompt like this one. But just skipping down over here, you can see the kind of things that now it helps you plan. So if you're not a planner, I'm not much of one, you can at least just brain dump all the stuff that you think you'll need to make this party epic and then have it come up with the whole organized list for you. And then you can kind of start deciding, okay, so do I really need this thing or do I have it already? What's the estimated cost? I'll just like added everything up to about $220. $12, and that's covering the food, the cake, drinks, cups, all the supplies for the party itself. And if you gave it more context about the things that you already own, then it would adjust the budget for you. So ultimately, I mean, you're gonna be saving probably a lot more money than if you were to go to Target or Walmart or wherever you're gonna buy your, your stuff. It's a really fast way to organize everything so you're not feeling scrambled and, you know, kind of rushing around last minute. Now the last bit on the whole party planning thing, I wanted to create a simple plan for the day itself. And you can see right here, that's exactly what I prompted. So I said, you know, create a simple 2 to 4 PM run sheet for this party. And I don't even need to give all these details. This is like way more details than I normally would. You can see what it did. It gave a very detailed list. And I'm actually going to skip all this because down here I said, hey, simplify this. So like one lead parent and one helper. So it'd be like me plus maybe my wife and run the core party while the other parents are supervising, having fun. It's basically a rundown sheet that you don't need to print. You can just kind of maybe share it, talk it through. You welcome all the family roughly this time, do the treasure hunt thing, maybe, you know, 30 minutes, 20 minutes into the party. Then you start eating and hanging out and dancing or whatever you do. So you basically have kind of a flow. I'm not a super structured guy. So I mean, like, this might even be overkill, but some people like it. And it's cool to have it all kind of planned out so you don't forget the big events that you just prepped. And that's it. You could obviously do way more or just do like one of these things and you'd probably still blow some people away. But I think it's all about having the story and have it— all these ideas and these like little things that you would never think of come from your kid, and then you are literally making them the creator of this full thing, and all you're doing is using AI as a tool. I mean, I work in AI every day, so I get asked different questions like this, or I just see someone struggling, or myself sometimes, like planning a party, and I'm just like, there's gotta be a better way. So that's why I wanted to share this and also get your kid involved, 'cause I think it's just super fun. So just pick like one or pick all, or maybe, I don't know, throw in the comments what other things would you make for a party, or even like what's some crazy activities or things that you feel like AI can create that would totally blow people away at the party. Okay, throw that in the comments. I can't wait to hear about the fun parties that are made because of this. And if you like what you see here, I make videos like this and finding useful ways to leverage AI to make life more fun. and useful and all that stuff. Please like and subscribe, come back for more. And again, leave in the comments, tell me about what you thought was cool here and how you're using it, okay? I'll see you next time. Thanks a lot.
Bye.
