I'm really excited about the next presentation. Rita Davenport is a dealer. Not the dealer you're thinking of. Before I tell you what kind of dealer she is, here's why. She's our guest speaker today. About 25 years ago, Rita was the guest speaker at Arborn International, a multi level skincare company. There were 76 managers and at that meeting and the annual sales of the company were about $5 million a year. Soon after that meeting, Rita was hired to be the president and she served in that position for 20 years. When she left, Airborne was doing. Auburn was doing $980 million a year. 980 million. With over a million consultants. At the last meeting she spoke at, there were 17,000 people. How she did it was described in this issue of Success magazine, which was May 2013. Here's a picture of Rita. Be a Hope Dealer. Rita Davenport doesn't have to wear clothes made from feed sacks anymore.
Okay?
So the article gives the title of her presentation, which is Be a Hope Dealer. So please welcome the very awesome Rita Davenport.
Thank you. You need three hugs a day just to keep from being weird. So if you're some of these, if you haven't gotten your hugs today, you can justify being weird. I love speaking to men. I love men. I married one, I have two sons. I especially love short men because they can't see your roots. And that's comforting sometimes. I just want you to all know before I close for a standing ovation shortly, that before you're born, you're given a purpose for your life. And those of you that are in this room, that know your purpose, your own purpose, you're clear. Many people, actually, they say less than 3% really know what their purpose is in life. I know this is my purpose. And so I'm sharing with you today just some ideas that I've learned a lot from Joel, a lot from many people. I had a chance to spend my life in broadcasting interviewing famous people that were the who's who? I got to interview Billy Graham. I got to interview John Wayne. I got to interview so many people that I found out, like from Dustin Hoffman, how really insecure he was. He had a list of 13 people that told him that he was skinny, that he was bow legged, he had pockmarks, he was never going to amount to much. And he said he carried that list around so that he would remind himself not to let those people be right. Because many people turn their power over to someone else less effective than they are, and lets them tell them what to do. So I found out in life that your association is so powerful with other people. Aristotle Onassis said if he had his life to live over again, there is one thing he would do different. He said I would probably not marry Jackie Kennedy Onassis. But anyway, he said I would hang around rich people sooner, he said, because rich people throw away more ideas in a day's time about how to earn money than a poor person will ever have. So what you're doing right now is so powerful for you to be hanging around with each other. And you got to know that one pessimist can pull 10 optimists down easier than 10 optimists can pull one pessimist up. We're around stinking thinking all the time, and we have to learn the powerful tools to say cancel. Cancel. So many of you are not thinking about your purpose in life because you're trying to figure out, why is she wearing two watches. How many of you have noticed that I have two watches on camera? Well, let me explain this because I want to clear up the confusion. I can tell this right here is about a $29 Timex watch. I wear it because I can see it. And it even lights up when I'm in a hotel room as a speaker traveling around the country. I can find the bathroom in the middle of the night if I just to light this up to find it because it helps you with direction. So I wear this watch because I can see it. Now, this right here is about $35,000 Rolex watch. I only wear it because you can see it. Let me show you. I don't need a Rolex watch to feel good about myself, but you need to see me wearing one because to some of you, I might sound like I just fell off a Trump truck. And Tempe, Arizona. But the minute you scope in on that watch, you're going to think, well, I'm going to listen up. That girl must have something to say. Look at that watch. She's Got on. So I only wear this watch for your sake. I have to laugh, though, because the attention wearing two watches gets because time is so important. I've written a book called Making Time. Making Money. And time is so valuable you have 86,400 seconds every day. And how you use it is going to make such a difference. And what you take away from this meeting, and when you stop and think about me being a Hope dealer, it's kind of ironic because to be written up in Success magazine, that was a goal that I had. I didn't know how it was going to happen. See, the how will come to you when you decide what it is you want. H.L. hunt said he was a very famous, wealthy Texan, in case you didn't know who he was. He said, decide what you want. Most people don't know what they want. That's the reason it's easier for us to get what we want because the world steps aside for the person that knows where they're going. So decide what you want today. From what you've heard about goal setting a goal is a predetermined idea directed toward a desired result. When you set a goal, you're going to leave your comfort zone. But adventure is when you leave your comfort zone. So H o Hunt, very successful, said, decide what you want. Then he said, decide what you're willing to give up to get it, because for everything you get, you've got to give up something. Then he said, set priorities in my life. God's first, my family's second, and my career's third. Get those mixed up, you're really going to have some problems. And then he said, go to work. And that's something that we all have to realize. If you're looking for a helping hand, because that's what we're here for, look at the end of your sleeve because you're going to find a helping hand there. So decide what you want, but your networking and your net worth is a result of your network. I read an interesting study where they put monkeys, four monkeys, in a room, and they had them climb up a pole to get bananas that were at the top of the pole. Well, monkeys love bananas. That wasn't hard to teach them. So they would scramble up the pole to get the bananas, and then they dumped a bucket of cold water on the monkeys. Well, after they kept doing it, the monkeys wouldn't try anymore to go up the pole to get their favorite food. They learned to eat other things. Well, they took one of the monkeys out and they brought a Brand new monkey in never had experienced the water being dumped on it. So it immediately started up the pole to get a banana. And the other monkeys started grabbing that monkey and pulled him back and explained to him in monkey talk, I don't exactly know how it went, but something like, don't try to go up there because you're going to get knocked off. That's what happened to us, and that's the way many of us live our life. People that haven't achieved tell us what we can't do. So they brought in another new monkey, tried to climb up, and kept on. There were monkeys in the room that had never experienced the bucket of water, but the programming from being around other monkeys. Now, I love bananas, so I hope you'll climb up the pole to get a banana. I hope you'll share one with me. But look at who you're spending time with and how they may drag you down. Be very, very careful not to turn your power over to someone more messed up than you. And then the importance that we've heard today about having the right people around us is very valuable. Dr. Norman Vincent Peale wrote a book. You all have heard of this book. It's the Power of Positive Thinking. How many have heard of the Power of Positive Thinking? He wrote the book, and about 23 publishing companies turned it down. They didn't want anything to do with it. He was so discouraged that he put the book in a trash can. And he told his wife Ruth, he said, do not take the book out of the trash can. I'm humiliated. I'm embarrassed. And that was the only copy of the Power of Positive Thinking that had been made. One copy. We hear all the people in this room that are interested in writing books. So being a dutiful wife, she did not take the book out of the trash can. She wrapped butcher paper around the book, around the trash can. And with the book in the trash can wrapped in butcher paper, she got on a subway and went to another publishing company that ended up publishing the Power of Positive Thinking, or we wouldn't have known. This book today, millions and millions of copies, the power of your mind. I have a neighbor, and his name is Muhammad Ali. Have you ever heard of Muhammad Ali? He actually lives in a gated community about $3 million down from my house. But I do drive by his house on my way home. But I had a chance to interview him, and I said, how did this all happen? He said, rita, I was a poor black kid living in the ghettos of Louisville, Kentucky. But over and over again, I'd say to myself, I'm the greatest. I'm the greatest. I'm the greatest. And he said, I became the greatest boxer the world's ever seen because I believed it. The power of hope. If you don't have hope in your life, it's like you're leaving on a journey with no destination. I was told as a poor child living in the hills of Tennessee, don't try to get above your raisin. There ain't nobody in this family that's ever graduated from high school before. You know you're a result of a family of poverty. And, yes, I do speak two languages, English and Southern. I am so Southern, I'm even kin to myself. You know, when your grandmother is your aunt, it's confusing. You really don't know how to introduce her. You know what I'm saying? But I learned to overcome that because I believed I was here for a purpose. And I had the hope that I could make a difference. Rachelle, can I have my first slide? Can I have my first slide? I thought you were one of the most prepared people that I could ever. Could I have a second one? I don't have any slides. I'm just messing with her. I just want to make sure she's with me, you know? Still listening, you know, sometimes. You. You did good, baby girl. You did. Did I show you the pictures of my grandkids? You could pull those up. Does that mean. How much time do I have left? One minute. One minute. Oh, my God. Public speaking is the number one fear in the world. The number two according to the Book of Lists. And I had a chance to have dinner with David Wallenczynski that wrote the Book of Lists. Number two fear in the world is death by fire. So people would rather burn to death than what I do for a living. But I want you all to know that you' with a purpose. Have a little sign over my desk, and it says, God is watching. And by the way, God is a man. I was in labor with my first child for 32 hours. No woman would have done that to another woman. So God is definitely. God is a man. God is watching. Give him a good show. There's a chance that we'll never see each other again. That's the way life is. In case I don't ever see you again, I want you to know something. Always have hope for your future. Because if you don't, you won't get anywhere. And you are an amazing group, and I've been blessed to be with you. Thank you very much for being here. Thank you very much.
