2 Jul 2026 · 5 min

Wouldn't it be cool if every time you have an accident in your vehicle and you get your car repaired, that you get this bundle of goodies that come along with it because of it, that your $600 turned into $1,000 worth of value? I'm Dean Jackson. He's Joe Polish. And this is the I Love Marketing Podcast.
We are taking questions from the audience. Fun questions, marketing questions. Fred Young asks, in our auto repair business, it's typically a grudge purpose. They come in with a plan to spend $60,000. And then we present them with another $600 needed. How would you fellas change the customer mindset, the grudge part, and how do you make it more fun for the customer to spend more money? They're thinking they're gonna spend $60, they're spending $600. Joe, you probably have some carpet background on that. Dean, you're just smart. Let's hear what these guys say.
Go ahead, Dean.
Joe, go ahead, Dean. I'm, I'm really interested in these questions. Like, we're, it feels like we're playing Stump the Band. On these things. So in the context, it's one of those things that they've got a problem that they weren't expecting, that they weren't hoping for. And so it's hard when you're thinking that people are, you know, in this bad situation. What I always love is one thing that you can do to make things fun is think about who else would be a good, what could you include that they're getting with this, that because of this, they had a bad situation, but now they're getting this good situation that comes out of it. Like when you think about the VCR formula, the vision plus capability multiplied by reach, what you have anytime that you help somebody do something, you have reach to somebody who has just done a thing that you are looking there. And if you've got the opportunity to get in front of that person, like, wouldn't it be cool if every time you have an accident in your vehicle and you get your car repaired, that you get this bundle of goodies that come along with it because of it, that you're $600 turned into, you know, $1,000 worth of value that everybody who is like, now that you've got kind of your car nice and neat, you're going to want to keep it washed and detailed, or maybe you want to get some new rims, or maybe you want to get some new stereo or any of these things that you turn whatever you just spent there into an advantage that you're, you know, you've got the opportunity to give that to, to everybody that, that has a, that has an accident.
I think, I think Dean covered it.
All right. You've been listening to the I Love Marketing podcast. This is from an I Love Marketing live session. More questions from this live episode will be presented in future episodes of I Love Marketing. And if you want to attend an I Love Marketing event, definitely head out to ilovemarketing.com to get more information there. One of the strategic byproducts of coming in live, which we didn't even realize at the beginning of this recording, but it's something we'll be chatting about in future meetings for this, is there's a lot of fun chat from the audience. There have been some great suggestions and anybody who's asking questions should be cutting and pasting the heck outta this thing. 'Cause there's some great framing, there's some great stuff in here. So another reason the, the, the power of community, we're committed to the I Love Marketing podcast, especially me. I'm committed to making that podcast go, but the community side here is really, really exciting. So thank you guys.
