And because of this, I am. And because I live these kind of values, I'm more focused, I'm more productive, I'm more effective. And I do things right the first time. And that's a biggie that I value my time that I do things right the first time. When you start wasting time and doing things over and over again because you don't get them right, it's just a waste of time. Because the paradoxical truth is the more structured you are with your time, the more free time you have. I'm Dean Jackson, he's Joe Polish, and this is the I Love Marketing podcast.

Our next presenter is my dear friend Mary Ellen Trippy. Before starting her business in 2010 as a corporate CEO, Mary Ellen was famous for increasing profits 100, 200, even 400%. When she started her first business, Working Moms Only, she went from zero to seven figures in revenue in just 10 months. Now she wants to share how by living a blended lifestyle, she was able to reorganize her company and double her revenues this year as well as hire superstar employees for her high end consulting clients. I promise you you'll want to take notes because Mary Ellen will be talking about how to hire happy superstar team members and make more money to boot. Her title is the Blended Lifestyle Revolution. Give it up for Mary Ellen Tribute. Thank.
Hi. This presentation is actually very synergistic to everything we've talked about so far today, so I'm really excited to get into it. Currently, I coach a lot of folks who are starting businesses. I consult with a lot of people who have businesses already in the range of 10 to 20 million dollars. And I also consult with folks who have businesses in the hundred to $500 million range. And the one thing that I hear from everybody, the famous word when I ask questions is I don't have time. I don't have time to do that. I don't have time to do that. And you know, this is the no excuse zone. Everybody has the same 24 hours in a day. What gets done is entirely up to you. But what I have noticed over the years is that there are basically three different kind of lives people live. One is an out of sync life, one is a balanced life, and one is a blended life. And we're going to go through that today, as well as the difference between internal values and external values. We're going to talk about how structure actually equals freedom, why nine to five is dead. And I'm going to share with you the best job description I've ever written that has literally doubled my business this year. So an out of sync lifestyle is somebody who just works all the time. They just do nothing but work. And when that happens, you find that they're very overwhelmed. Overwhelmed. They're sad, they're angry, they're resentful. A balanced life is when people try to go tit for tat. Well, if I'm gonna work eight hours, I'm gonna play eight hours. And the problem with a balanced lifestyle is you're really trading time for money so that you're always searching for something more, but then you have to give up something. A blended lifestyle is when you have purposeful activity all the time. Some of that activity yields you revenue and some of it doesn't indirectly. But when I go and I play tennis three times a week, does that directly yield me revenue? No, but indirectly it absolutely does. When I ride my bike, it does not yield me revenue directly, but indirectly. Ideas are coming from everywhere. So the outcome of that is that you achieve personal and financial freedom. Okay, now I want to talk about values, internal versus external. And I want to say that there's nothing wrong with external values unless that's where you put your priority. You know, when I discovered the internal values, when I value, I value my time more than money. And until you value your own time more than money, you will never be wealthy. I value relationships so much more than fame. There are people who are so famous, and we know some people who are very famous and they're miserable because they don't work on the relationships and then experiences versus toys. I have three kids who are really, really busy and we love to pick up and go, whether it's to a Yankee game up in Tampa, fly to New York, whatever it is. So we much prefer that than having, you know, the boats and the big cars and things like that. And again, there's Nothing wrong with those toys. But when you put those internal values first, that's where the happiness really comes from. This is a sample of my day that I'm up really pretty early. I like to, I actually go out 10 minutes every single morning before I start writing and either jump rope or just some swim in the pool something. Then I write from 5:30 to 8:30 every day. I will either go play tennis or volunteer. When I volunteer it's either at my kids school or even at the food bank in, in our town. I'll work out if I'm, if I'm volunteering. If not I'll just kind of start my work day again and do meetings from 1:30 to 3:30 work with my team. 3:30 I'm done. @ that point I start my taxi business. My taxi business is essentially taking my, my daughter to softball, my other daughter to tennis, my son to football. And that's what we do and that's what we love. But I'm able to have you know, a, a eight figure business and do this. And because of this I am. And because I live these kind of values, I'm more focused, I'm more productive, I'm more effective. And, and I do things right the first time. And that's a biggie that I value my time that I do things right the first time. When you start wasting time and doing things over and over again because you don't get them right, it's just a waste of time. Because the paradoxical truth is the more structured you are with your time, the more free time you have. And so, and I understand the difference between being busy and being productive. So many people are busy but they don't get anything done. And that's, that's so sad. And then efficient versus effective. You know, people think being efficient is good, which it is. But as entrepreneurs everything you do has to be effective. It has to move your business and your life forward. You can be very efficient at things, but that doesn't affect the growth of your business or the happiness of your family. And again, doing something and doing something correctly. I have a business model people probably know. It's called Inbox Empire. And people think oh, you know Inbox magazines, it's just like newsletters, they don't work, but if you do it correctly, it works. A big part of what I do is to live a blended lifestyle is I don't compartmentalize, I don't separate everything in my life. I just do things and sometimes again they're for, they make money, sometimes they Don't. If I'm up in Disney with my kids and I see a great marketing idea, I don't say, oh, I'm not working, I'm at Disney with my friends. I can't, I can't, you know, I can't contemplate this. I can't write it down. I stop, I type it into my phone, I keep going. It's a blended lifestyle. I don't have to say I'm not working now because I love what I do. It's purposeful activity. These are our vision statement for my family. And I have a mission statement for my business. And you can see from this it's very, very similar that for my family, our vision is to embrace every minute and live each day to the fullest. Our business mission statement is to give our customers the support and tools they need to reach their goals and live every day to the fullest. So again, very congruent. If your family statement is out of whack with your company statement, then again, it's going to be hard to live a blended lifestyle. These are my core values and these are the same core values that we have in my family and that every single employee operates from in our business. And so we operate from a place of kindness, we operate from a place of compassion. Strive for greatness, always be honest and fair. Continually learn, endure and fio, which means figure it out. So the ingredients for blended lifestyle is a support system. Prioritize decision making, planning and action. When people say I don't have time, it's a matter of priorities. If it is a priority, you will make time for it. If you don't, if you, if it's a priority, then you'll take action. So these are the seven or the five ingredients that are just key. Now because of this, because I live this way and because I am so protective of my time that I'm able to spend quality time with my kids, run my business, play tennis, do that three times a week, have a date night with my husband every single week, volunteer at my kids school and our church, coach my daughter's softball team, write best selling books and of course taxi my kids. And I wanted the same thing for my customers, for my team members. Because this was a huge revelation for me over the last couple years that I wanted this for my team. And what it did, it forced me to face some facts. I had to have a pretty strong talk with some key team members and I had to say, I don't feel like you're excited to be part of this company. Anymore. And the result of that was that person or those people saying, you're right, I'm not. I just didn't know how to leave. And I said, let's make a transition. Let's do a transition plan so that you can be excited about something as opposed to just saying, okay, get the heck out of here. You know, we really worked on that. I posted a new ad, which I'm going to share with you guys, and I hired some new team members. This is the best ad I've ever written. Garrett, would you mind reading from my computer? It's right there. Only because it's really worth reading out.
Loud. WMO is looking for superstar team members. Dear First Name. If you are a kick butt and take names kind of person, keep reading. Working Moms Only is expanding its team and we are looking for dynamic, smart people with a true sense of urgency. However, this time I am mixing up the screening process. I want to tell you to tell me what you love to do and what you're great at. So if you are an infusionsoft whiz, tell me. If you're a great writer, show me. If you're a marketing genius who knows the subscription business and more. Wow me. You love customer care and dream about making customers happy at night. Let me know. If you have a passion and aptitude for numbers and reports, advise me. If you're a tech nerd, demonstrate it. If you're a social media ninja, display it. If you're a PR mastermind, prove it. If the world's best assistant tease me. And if you're immediate buying master brand, to me, you're a dynamo product developer, confirm it. I think you get the point. Sell me on your passion and your.
Skill. Okay, well, you get the. But what I asked them for was to. And this kind of goes to again what Dean was saying today. I asked them to tell me what they wanted and I also asked them to include a brag sheet and to say, these are the things I'm proud of, the things that I can do, whether it's speak multiple languages, do the tango, climb Mount Everest, the things that they've accomplished. And when I wrote this ad, I got less resumes, but they were all qualified. And that's the thing again, I asked them to do the work ahead of time and they were qualified. And I was able to hire somebody with note within a week, which is crazy. And then I had a brand new team and I had a reserve of resumes for my private clients. And today, one year later, I've got a happy team with great ambassadors. Working Moms only doubled doubled in the size revenue this year because of this team. The Christmas bonuses that I gave this year are 10 times the bonuses what I gave last year and was happy to do it. I work less hours in Working Moms only in that part of my business and have happier customers. And I have an increased revenue in my consulting silo because I'm able to spend more time there. So I hope that you've gotten some value out of.
