Are you in God's Will?

John Humenik argues that staying in the same ministry role for years often means God is calling you elsewhere. He uses David, Jesus, and Joseph as examples of leaders who moved through seasons, and warns that comfort isn't the same as peace. Real faith requires sacrifice and a willingness to surrender your plans to God's.

Hi, my name is John Humenik. Welcome back to the channel. I'm so excited that you're here. I got an amazing message that God talks about in the season that you're walking into. Are you stewarding the very things he wants you to do, or are you clinging to the things that you're used to doing and God's asking you to give it back to him in order for you to move forward? The biggest mistake most Christians make in their walk with God is that they think that they become owners of the things that God is asking them to steward. This is a perfect example of how people operate within the kingdom, because what you'll do is you'll see them serving on a committee or a group, and they never leave that role. They stay on that role for 10, 20, 30 years, and they never move on. And I can assure you, even in the kingdom of God, it's always a forward and up motion. And I'm going to let you know today that there's more than likely, if you've been on a group or a committee for greater than 3 years, there's a chance it's time to move on. Now, in your situation, if you're in a leadership role, it may be different, but the The reality is, is that God is always a forward and up motion. And we're going to talk about what God revealed specifically around these things so that you can understand if this is the grace you should be operating in, or should you be doing something very different. Now, a lot of Christians get comfortable in the work that they're doing because they believe that, hey, if I'm going to church every Sunday and I'm serving on a team and I'm in community, that I'm doing the things God wants me to do. And the reality is that's not the case, that you may be doing God's work that he once assigned to someone else, and he wants you to do something different in the season. And how do you recognize that? And how do you know that the things you're stewarding today are not the things you should be stewarding tomorrow? Well, one of the biggest things is, is that people need to make sure that they're getting in the presence of God and asking him, are these things that I'm stewarding today the things I should be doing tomorrow? Let him talk to you. Let him go over things. Because what you'll see is, is a lot of times people will accept peace or even comfort as a point of actually, this is what I'm supposed to be doing, almost like a recognition from God. But the reality is faith is uncomfortable. That's the thing that most people miss. And when you're on a faith walk, is faith is all about discomfort. It's all about seeing the unseen and then expecting God to move there and in authority and power. And the reality is it's about sacrifice. It's about laying down your will for his will. And when you start to operate in kingdom principles like this, the reality is, is the faith walk and the journey you're on actually comes with more discomfort than it does peace. And you'll start to understand is, how do I tease these 2 concepts apart? How do I tease comfort from peace? How do I tease where I should be from the perspective of being content in godliness and operating in overflow and being constantly in a state of pure faith and being in an expectancy of hope that God's going to be moving in How do you understand those things? Let's break those apart so that you can see the things that God wants you to do in this season as you move forward. Because the reality is, in this new year, the reality is more than likely God's gonna be asking you to do new things. He even had me give up a bunch of things even in my life. As he said, those seasons are over, those graces are over, those things that you're doing. Sure, you may be able to steward 10% of what you were supposed to be, but I need you taking that 90% and focusing over here because this season is completely different. He actually had me change almost everything except for one volunteer that I do as a part of my church service. So when you start to understand that in a new season, which can occur at any point in time, it doesn't happen to have in a calendar year, it doesn't have to happen within a change of a month or even an actual physical earth season. You have to understand is God may want you to shift into a new place overnight and take the grace that you had over there and give it to someone else who's now supposed to steward it and give you a higher calling. Assignment, because God wants you to move forward. Again, a forward and up kingdom doesn't stay stagnant. And even in fact, when you look at how people are operating, when you see all the people in the Bible, when you look at them, no one stayed at the position they were unless they were already at the top. If you look at like King David as a perfect example, God refined him over 30-some years before he became the king of Judah, and then he sat on the throne of king of Judah for a while before becoming the king of Israel. And then when he was there, that's what he stewarded from his his role for the rest of his life. So if you're not at basically the president of the United States or some president of a major corporation, you're not going to be at this role that you're in for the rest of your life. That's reality. That's how God works. Look at Jesus. He stewarded his life as a carpenter's son and allowed him to learn and work with his hands and to be a part of a community and to do the things that allowed him to prepare him for ministry. But once he got into ministry, he stayed there and he never left for the 3 and a half years because that was his pinnacle. That's where Jesus You see the same with Joseph. You see the same with Moses and all the leaders until they reach their destiny and their leadership role and where they're supposed to be. They're always in a forward and up motion. That's the essence of what he wants to do for you. The things that you're stewarding today are guaranteed not to be the things you're gonna be stewarding in 5 years or 10 years from now. That's the reality there. Unless again, you're in the place where you're supposed to be and you're at that peak. Say for example, you're a pastor of a church or you're president of a company. If you're not one of those people, there's a really good chance that God's going to call you somewhere else. And even in fact, even if you're a president of a company and even a pastor of a church, he may ask you to go on to something new in a bigger church or a bigger business, or start something small in a different area and bring fire to a region that is functionally cold and dead. You have to know that in your seasons that it has to be submitting to the will of God. You have to be able to be willing to lay down the things that you care about and put them on the altar, because this is where the discomfort really belongs. This This is the area where the flesh will start to fight you. When you know you're walking in faith is you're constantly laying down things before God and saying, is there anything on this altar that I should be picking up? Because if you lay down your successes as well as your failures, as well as your sin, as well as your, your actual flesh, God's going to say, here are the pieces that I need you to pick up today. When you start to walk life out like that, what you'll start to see is, is that you will experience a tremendous amount of discomfort on a day-to-day basis. You will get to a point where you'll see that discomfort dissipate to potentially even contentment. But the reality is, is that when you start to walk in that way, when you're in the perfect will of God and he's operating through you, it's not— none of that is comfortable because all those things are always at a point where you become subject to God's whim. And you think about it, if you are constantly at a point where you're saying, I'm going to submit my will to God, I'm going to continue to yield to his His desires and his principles and his attitude towards my life, what you'll start to recognize as you're starting to walk these things out with him, you'll start to see that at the end of the day, you wouldn't wanna do it most of those things anyway. You may enjoy doing some of those things, but you may not have wanted to do it in that season at that point in time. There's always going to be something within you that's going to try to push you away from God, to try to get you to a place back where there's some form of complacency, some contentment, and some even just relaxation. and comfort. And so what you start to understand is, is that God is always in a position where he wants to do things in a bigger and better way. And even in fact, when you look at King David's life and how he operated, he constantly went before the Lord and asked him, what should I be doing? If you read the scriptures, you see him over and over and over again because he knew the moment that he even went into battle, that moment he trusted himself, even if the battle with the enemy was the same thing on the same place with the same troops, he knew the battle was going to be different. He knew God was gonna give him additional wisdom and knowledge to be able to operate in that overflow. And then in that aspect, when you start to understand what God has for you in this life, in this season, in this moment, you have to recognize that you are not smart enough. I'm not smart enough to know the things he wants me to do. The reality is, think about it from God's perspective. If God allowed you to understand the full scope of your decision, you would then realize the words you say today affect you and your family and generations to come. generations to come. The choices you make affect millions and millions of people, believe it or not. Because even if you don't make the things you're supposed to do, or you're not accomplishing the things God wants you to do, your choice affects millions of people. Because if you're supposed to do something, eventually it's supposed to have a ripple effect over the generations to affect a lot of people. If you choose not to do it, it affects them. If you choose to do it, it affects them. If you choose to do— affect— to do it a way you want to do it, but for not the way he wanted to do it, it affects them. So your choices have earth-shattering decisions and effects as you move forward. And that's the thing that is so important. You can't understand the gravity and the, the basically the master plan that God has for every choice you have on your life. When you start to understand those moments, that what ends up happening is, is you can become your own God and you no longer need him to usher you through this process. And the reality is, is you're not going to live to see most of the choices and the effects of your decisions come to pass. Those things happen later. Think about from the prophet Isaiah's perspective. Here he is writing 66 chapters of a book that will become a cornerstone of an Old Testament prophecy in which he talks about the Christ and becomes a part of just everything that's basically built upon the Bible and a core aspect of how the Bible operates. And when he died, most of his prophecies didn't come to pass. So you could look at him and say, well, he was a false prophet. He died an old man. He, he ministered to, I think, 5 or 6 kings. And at the end of his life, most of his prophecies didn't come true. His prophecies didn't come true for almost 700, 800 years later when Jesus walked the earth. His words that he wrote down, who he might have thought maybe potentially trivial, but reality were earth-shattering and affected billions of people. That's the essence of what God wants you to do. You negatively choosing to pick the things you want to do, you negatively picking all these things where you want to be selfish and focus on the things that you want, you're negatively affecting generations of people. That's why being in the perfect will of God is so important, because remember, being in his permissible will is good but not great. Even sin and death exist in his permissible will, which is a challenging thing for people to recognize. But when you're starting to walk out new graces and new opportunities, you have to ask God, look, I'm a finite being. You've got 7 days, 24 hours in a day. How are you going to take on all this extra work? And sometimes he asks you to sleep less. Sometimes he asks you to work more. But when you start to understand, when all of these things break down, there are going to be things that he's going to ask you to put on the altar and not pick up. And when you start to recognize those moments, those are freeing moments that allows you to move into new graces, New opportunity, new prosperity, new faith. It will allow you to move in your Christian walk in a way that other people struggle to operate in because they don't understand. Because the reality is, is they want to control their life, and they're, they're rather control their life through comfort and, and just moving through life, just getting by, rather than living in the abundance and the opulence that God wants for you in your life. So I pray this video helped you kind of look at your life and see the things that you should be questioning. And then, hey, these are the things should be working. Is the job I'm at supposed to be where I'm supposed to be at? Is the church I'm at supposed to be where I'm at? Is the city I'm at the place I'm supposed to be at? Always ask God these questions because you never know when it is a time for a season of change. If you like content like this, please support us on Patreon. You can go there, patreon.com/johnhumenik.
