A woman at church sang loudly and off-key every Sunday. When she heard a recording of herself, she kept singing anyway. The speaker says that's the difference between singing about God and singing to God: one is performance, the other is offering your actual self.
Do you have that one person in your church that sings terribly and louder than everyone else? Listen to this.
Years ago, there was a lady that would come to our church every Sunday morning and she would sing louder than anyone else. It was so bad, but I didn't have the heart to say anything to her. But one Sunday, there was someone up on stage singing a special. She was recording that with her phone while she sang along. She later shared that on social media, and apparently it was the first time she had ever heard herself sing, and she openly admitted how bad that it really was. So the next Sunday rolls around, she comes in, she sings just as loud, if not louder, than she's ever sang before. And in that moment, the Lord spoke to me and said, Brian, there's a difference between singing about me and singing to me. And what she's doing is singing to me. What I was doing was singing about him, but she was singing to him because he had dug her out of a dark place. And this was personal to her. While it may have been off-key, she was singing to her Savior. And when you sing about him, you don't always sing to him. But when you sing to him, you always sing about him. Psalm 150. Let everything that has breath praise the Lord.
