How Prophets HEAR the Voice of God

In this solo teaching, John Humenik explains how a true prophet hears God’s voice, distinguishing a prophet from anyone who prophesies. He describes the two natures of a prophet—priestly (listening) and kingly (declaring)—and emphasizes that prophetic hearing requires an intimate, disciplined relationship with God cultivated through daily quiet time, worship, and journaling. Humenik outlines practical steps: setting aside consistent times (morning, day, night), keeping a journal, testing impressions against Scripture, asking God specific questions, and maintaining purity and humility. He also addresses the need for order and authority in prophetic ministry, noting that prophets must be ordained or commissioned and should not act without church oversight. Throughout, he shares personal testimony of growth over three years, promising that sustained practice leads to increasingly clear revelations, deeper wisdom, and transformative impact on the prophet’s life and those around them. The video concludes with a call to support his ministry via Patreon.

Hi, my name is John Humenik. Welcome to the channel. I'm so excited you're here. Today's video is going to be talking about how a prophet hears the voice of God. 2 very important topics mixed together just for you. If you know someone who's prophetic, please share this video with them because this is going to bless them in many ways, because this is going to unlock the very things that God wants for you in your life as you walk out this beautiful prophetic journey Today. It is going to be amazing. So what is the difference between a prophet and then someone who prophesies? Because there is a difference. A person who prophesies can be anyone. It talks about that in Joel. It says that in Acts 2, where it talks about that God is pouring out his Spirit on all flesh. In fact, you don't even have to be saved in order to prophesy. We know that the spirit of prophecy is the testimony of Jesus, and we know that every single Bible verse being spoken about Jesus is the spirit of prophecy. But this is a little bit different because a prophet is one who has intimate relationship with God and hears things in the quiet place. It's the highest form of the priestly nature of a prophet. And this is important because he or she who is continuing to work and walk in this beautiful way of life needs to understand that there's 2 aspects to a prophet, 2 natures: the priestly nature, which sits at the feet of God, and And listens and listens, and then the kingly nature that then declares. And so how a prophet listens to the voice of God may be similar to that of a regular Christian, but there's an additional element because there's a deeper level intimacy, there's a deeper level of worship. And we're gonna go into all of those things to unlock your prophetic voice, to hear God, to proclaim, and to be the trumpet of a new day and be just an amazing person of edification, exhortation, and comfort. So let's hop right into it. Now, the most important aspect to hearing the voice of God is the one thing is you have to understand is that you actually hear the voice of God. And it does say that in the Bible that Jesus says, my sheep hear my voice, they know me and they follow me. So you have to understand this is that you do hear the voice of God. And it is that the voice that's inside of you is the unction that goes forward. And now I have a lot of videos on how voice of God applies to reading the Bible, the inner voice, people talking through other people, There's a lot of different mannerisms in which this occurs, but I'm talking specifically about hearing God's voice in the quiet place. This is the inner voice where you are hearing it and you're journaling it down. And this is what sets the prophet apart from other Christians, because prophets have that innate ability to hear God's voice far more clear than any other gifting under the fivefold ministry. And this is true. I've seen it in my own life. I've seen it in others where you can just hear the voice of God so crystal clear, it's not you talking, and it's deep revelation, deep knowledge, deep wisdom, and it is unbelievable. It's prophetic. You're able to do things that are out to be able to accomplish great things. Now, this topic is specific about hearing God's voice 'cause there's a lot of aspects with the prophetic where you kaleo or call the future in and declare the future and bring it forward. But this is specific to hearing God's voice and unlocking it further. So as you, as we talked about, the most important aspect is, is that you do need get a journal, whether it's a paper one or electronic like an iPad where you're writing, because you need to build an intimate relationship with God that's going to take time. Now you have to be patient with yourself because as you're walking this out, you're going to hear things in your quiet time from God that comes from you, that comes from the devil, and comes from God. Eventually those noises disappear and it's just God, because when you get into a place of faith, trust me, it is only him. And you can confirm every single thing he says with the word. And as you journal it and look back upon it, he'll actually tell you things that are about to happen in your life before they happen, and it'll build your faith up further. So you do need the word of God in you. You do need to be a student of the Bible. But the most important thing is, is that you have to be willing to sit and listen, to find that quiet place, to be dedicated in your time with God, to do it in the morning, to find time during the day, to find time every single night. This is something that you must do 100% of the time, whether you're not doing well, whether you are doing well, whether you're physically sick or you're happy all the time. The reality is, is this is so critical because you will not understand God's voice and he will not be able to impart upon you all the things that you need to hear without having this habit. And this habit needs to turn into a full-blown lifestyle, no different than falling asleep, no different than brushing your teeth or taking a shower every day or eating a meal. It has to become— that natural for you. So it's very important to have that journal where you can sit in God's presence and say, Father, I am listening, speak. And just let him talk to you, because the reality is, is that eventually he will kick you out of the prayer room in order to do other things. But in order to foster that— the difference is, is to foster that relationship, you need to be one of the prophetic nature that has the ability to worship. And all prophets have that, but you have to have the willingness to worship, because even in the prayer closet, you may be worshiping God before he speaks. You need to make sure that you're putting the burdens on the sacrificial altar, that you're not living in sin, or at least willful sin, especially the secret sin that so easily ensnares many of us. You've got to be able to set that lifestyle aside to listen to God, and you've got to be able to ask God questions in this place. You've got to be able to— willing to, to go up to God and say, hey, look, I don't understand what that means, or I'd like a deeper revelation, or tell me something about myself, or give me some information about a loved one or work. Dive into those Situations and let him talk to you and journal those things down and then follow it out. It's so important because the prophet is called to listen to God in 2 ways. You got to listen to his voice and you got to listen to what he's telling you to do. It's really important because the prophet carries more weight. And the more often you do this, because initially it's going to be kind of, you know, discombobulated. You may be having words for other people, they may not receive it. There's all kinds of situations that you're going to work through. But the most important thing as a prophet of the Lord is to sit in the quiet place, to be attentive to him, to write it down. Because there's going to be aspects in which you're going to write down probably 90-95% of your journal, and that will never be released. In fact, you may hand that journal down to your children after you die, and that may be the only other time someone reads that content, because it was meant for you. And that's okay, because that's how the prophet works, is you get so much revelation, so much wisdom, so much knowledge and even the ability to call things which do not exist into being because you are seated in Christ in heavenly places. But that declaration, that kingly nature, is going to be a smaller part of what you do. You must build that intimate relationship with Jesus first. It has to be fostered through trust, through love, through care. You can't prophesy through an orphan spirit. You can't prophesy discipline and correction all the time. You can't, you can't prophesy from a place of wanting to get people in order because that's not how it works. It's not the prophet's job, especially if you haven't been ordained in a church or in the areas that you're prophesying, to even do such a thing because God's got to call you first into those places. And I remember as I was embarking even on my social media journey that God wrote in my journey, that my journal, he said, look, you're called to be a prophet to the nations and you must speak the words I put in your mouth in this place. This is, I'm I'm ordaining you. Now, God ordains, but men commission. So you are not going to be able to go into a church and just speak the word of God unless you're authorized by the apostle that oversees the house or the pastor. Otherwise, you'll be out of order. And so there is an order to God's house, and there it is done in ways that's important. But the idea is, is to know that how do you foster this? How do you grow? Well, it's more than just writing in a journal. It's more than just listening and then doing, because You have to challenge yourself to ask God questions and push yourself into a position where there's no way you could possibly know that piece of information, but then you can hear it and then watch it come to be. This is really important because this is how prophets truly, truly— this is what sets them apart from people that are just listening for the word of God. And then the revelation God gives the prophets, because God's not typically giving revelation or wisdom and knowledge at the scale that he does to prophets to other people. One, they're not asking for it, and 2, that's not their gifting. That's not what they're called to do. The prophet can unlock all the mysteries of God if they're willing to sit in the place, in the secret place, long enough. The key part is, is that the Christian can do that too, but it applies to his or her life. The prophet has no gates, has no limitations, and you see this through scripture over and over again. Look at the prophet Elisha. Whenever he was telling the kings of Israel where to go when the, the king of Aram, or in this case Syria, you know, different, you know, different areas but same place. The— you have him telling the kings of Israel over and over again, this is where the king of Aram is going, this is where they're going to be, don't go there. And to the point where they got so frustrated they sent an army after him. This— you don't see this with the evangelists. You don't see this even with the apostles, although they again have that prophetic anointing on them. You see it with the prophetic. The people that are God are anointed to be able to reveal such revelation that it just, it's unbelievable. So the prophet has the right and the authority to sit in the presence of God and ask, hey, when is the war with the Ukraine going to end? When is the war with Israel and its neighbors going to end? When are these situations going to occur? Who is going to be president in 4 years? We just got a new president. Who's going to be president in 4 years? The prophet is allowed to ask those questions. Christians can ask those questions, but the reality is, is God, more times than not, is only going to give the non-prophet Christians the aspects they need to walk things out because it's not their calling to know all these other things, but the prophet is. And so God may still give it to the Christian. And if you're, if you're not called to the prophetic and you don't think you are, but you're like, hey, I'd still like to know those things, go ahead and do it. I'm not discouraging you, but don't be surprised if God says, I'm not going to tell you, because he does that to me all the time. I'll ask him all kinds of questions, and he's like, this one's not for you, son, because we know in part and you prophesy in part. So even though he will reveal it to someone, he's just not revealing it to me. That doesn't discourage me, and it shouldn't discourage you. But you also understand that it is really important as you walk this out that you challenge yourself to ask God these exciting, difficult questions. Ask him how to solve a problem at work. Ask him how to solve a situation at church. Ask him to give you revelation, to give you something that will just that is impossible for you to know other through than divine connection with God, and allow him to open up your eyes in ways that are just incredible. And you can really do this and apply it for almost anything. And that's the amazing aspect of a relationship with God, because you can move things forward with grace and peace and joy in a way that's just so productive and so amazing. But it starts with intimacy. It starts with sitting in the secret place. It starts with writing the stuff down that he wants you to write down. and just trusting that he's talking to you and then continuing to foster that day over day, week over week, month over month. It's so important. And I, again, I impress upon you, this is a daily, multiple daily time of thing. This is— you do it in the morning, you do it at night, and if you could do it in the middle of the day, I'd highly recommend it. Like, this is the minimum you need to do in order to really pull out that prophetic anointing in your life. Because if you don't do it, you're not going to spend enough time with God in order to receive all the things he wants. Because more than likely, He'll give you the parts that you need for the day, but these extra parts that you want to continue to grow into, you're just not going to have time for it. So keep that in mind. And this is not something that you can just get downloads on Saturday, on, you know, on a Sabbath or a Sunday if that's your Sabbath. It's just not going to work because at that point, it's— there's only so much he can impart upon a person before they get exhausted or they just can't listen. It just becomes difficult to just journal for enough time because you have to understand is when God's journaling and you're, you're writing all these things down and he's telling you these things, it can take a time. It can take 10 minutes to write a page. And if he needs to give you 10 pages of information, how much easier is it to receive that 10 pages of information over a course of 7 days or once on Saturday? And you understand what that means by that. So it's important, and God will— may want timely revelation during the week that you're then being undisciplined and wanting to receive it on the weekend. There's so many different things that go into this. So trust me, when it comes to it, just search and have an earnest need and desire and want to sit in his presence. Just say, I want deeper revelation, I want deeper wisdom, I want deeper knowledge, I want to be able to do deeper prophecies where I can call the future and pull it forward. And that's the essence of what that relationship is. That's the difference between a regular Christian who's sitting in the presence of God and receiving God's words. And it is different from a prophet or a prophetess of the Lord sitting intently at the feet of Jesus, listening to her Father, listening to his Father, and just getting all the things that he wants you to come into agreement with, pray into, or release prophetically outward with your mouth. And that if you can do this part, steward this over time, I guarantee you without a doubt, give yourself about 2 to 3 months and you'll start to see your journal really, you'll really go big. 6 months later, it will be game-changing. A year later, it will be unbelievable. When you do this year over year, it will completely change your life and everyone around you. And I'm even on this journey about 3 years, and I can assure you where I'm at today is just like 100 times greater than I were 3 years ago when I started it. And it just— it's unbelievable. It's game-changing. It's amazing. It's beautiful. And I can assure you You will not regret putting in the time with God because ultimately the reality is it's all about relationship. It's all about sitting at the feet of Jesus. And this is one way, one way that you can engage with excitement with Jesus and just hear him pour into you relentlessly all these beautiful words. And again, there'll be some forms of correction. And don't be, don't be afraid that God says, hey, you need to fix this part of your life. He loves you and he wants the best for you. But the reality is, most of the time you're gonna hear him pouring out beautiful words of love, hope, peace, joy, happiness. He'll tell you the devil's plans for you so you can prepare yourself and just be armed and ready to go. It's unbelievable. And that's the essence of what this beautiful relationship is, being a prophet for the Lord and how you can hear his voice at a level that others can't.
