Now what Russell is saying here is going to make a lot of Christians mad.
I was fascinated to read this verse in Romans 13. Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God. Consequently, whoever rebels against their authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves. Hold on a minute. There's a Bible telling us to obey the authority of the government. It looks like it, doesn't it? But submitting to governments that you believe to be corrupt seems like a problem to me. Although there's nowhere in this book where it says that it's our job as Christians to take over the world. There's someone else who's going to take care of that, and he's coming soon.
But it's true, the Word of God says we need to honor those in authority. However, this doesn't mean that we honor them in disobedience to what the Word plainly says Submit to government as unto God, but we don't submit to government as God. Submit and share this blessing with a friend.
