THE Key to Financial Independence

In this sermon‑style presentation, John Humenik interprets Ecclesiastes 11 to outline a faith‑based framework for achieving financial independence. He begins by contextualizing the chapter’s themes—casting bread upon the waters and giving a portion to seven or eight—then translates them into modern financial practices. Humenik shares his personal testimony of moving from over a million dollars in debt to multimillion‑dollar wealth, using the same principles he now teaches. The core prescription is to diversify into seven to eight income streams (passive side‑hustles, stocks, bonds, crypto, real estate, businesses, insurance, self‑investment) while maintaining disciplined budgeting and spending habits. Generosity and tithing are presented as a third pillar, with biblical promises of multiplied returns for giving. He stresses patience, trusting God’s timing over market hype, and the need to pivot when investments underperform. The strategy is framed as a generational, disaster‑preparedness plan: diversified assets enable one to weather economic downturns, natural catastrophes, or personal crises and even assist others in need. Practical steps include starting small (e.g., Acorns), using low‑barrier platforms, and continuously reallocating assets based on market signals, all while remaining spirit‑led and persistent. The overarching message is that by aligning biblical wisdom with modern financial tools, believers can break the “spirit of poverty,” build lasting wealth, and bless their families and communities.

And I want you to participate in this journey because these are the very principles that God taught me over the last 4 or 5 years that I applied diligently in my spaces and in areas that I had grace and just set me totally free. It's going to be incredible. So go ahead, share this video with a friend, and let's go ahead and get started. So if you're familiar with Ecclesiastes, the, the whole theme of that entire book is from Solomon, and really it is a story of his life from a worldly perspective. It is the one book in probably the entire Bible that you can give a non-believer and it will them to relate to the very experiences that Solomon walked out in his life. Solomon had 2 experiences with God his entire life, and because of that, it allowed him to set the stage to have just incredible success from a financial perspective. The very same principles that are used by the wealthy and ultra-wealthy today in order to break free. When I moved into the space of becoming a multimillionaire, I leveraged the very principles that I'm going to teach you today to set you free from the problems that you're dealing with. And even if you're totally broke, you're going to be able to leverage this today. So these principles come from Ecclesiastes 11. Let's go ahead and read the scriptures because I want to set the stage for what he is talking about and how we can leverage them in the world today. The very specific things that you can do tomorrow to walk this out and watch you become highly victorious in Christ and all the things that you need to accomplish. So it reads, cast your bread upon the waters, for you will find it after many days, give a portion to 7 or even to 8. For you know not when disaster may happen on earth. And if the clouds are full of rain, they empty themselves on the earth. And if a tree falls to the south or to the north, in the place where the tree falls, there it will lie. He who observes the wind will not sow, and he who regards the clouds will not reap. So I want to go ahead and stop there and kind of unpack this first to help set the stage for you to find victory in your finances. And it doesn't matter if you're highly successful or if you're someone just starting out or even steeped in the greatest amount of debt, because I started this journey in 7 figures in debt a few years ago and God smashed hundreds and thousands of dollars of debt off my back and continued to allow me to operate in a place where I went from red, where I was spending more money than I was making for many years. And now I'm operating in a place where I'm now finally able to eradicate debt in volume. And ultimately it's going to set me completely free from all the things that he has. So if he could do that for me with over $1 million in debt, he can definitely do it for you. Even if you have something less, even if you're struggling with $25,000 in just credit card debt, or maybe $100,000 in student loans, these principles are gonna apply to you today. So what God is saying first and foremost is he talks about when you cast your bread on many waters and you will find it after many days. This is a key principle 'cause you actually have to read it with verse 2. It says, give a portion to 7 or even to 8 because you don't know when disaster may happen on the earth. Let me unpack this first for you in simple terms and then how you can apply it going forward in victory. So the key thing is, is that we talk about today is passive income or side hustles. And the way God is talking about this today is, is what he's saying is, very simply is make sure you're investing in 7 to 8 side hustles or passive income sources so that you can go ahead and be victorious in your walk, in this financial walk, because you don't know when disaster comes. Now, there are Christians who will give feverishly and they're highly generous, but what they don't do is put together a place where they have financial stability in the sense of 7 or 8 places where income exists, comes from, and ultimately is stored. We see this even in Genesis when God told Joseph that there'll be 7 years of plenty and then 7 years of famine, and the famine will be so severe that you will actually forget the 7 years of plenty. So Joseph didn't hoard money for the sake of hoarding money. He, he stored money for the sake that he knows that at some point in his lifetime there was a disaster coming. In this case, he told— God told him this, but we don't know that when disaster will strike. So we must be ready to be able to take advantage of those situations to move forward. But what does that mean practically? What does that mean from the perspective of give a portion of 7 or even to 8? It means that you need to diversify how you're actually using your money. So today that's very easy because there's so many different ways you can invest your money. That stocks is one option, bonds is another, cryptocurrency's a third. You can go ahead and purchase mutual funds. Those are all very different things and actually give you different sets of returns. You can actually still invest in different kinds of CDs, real estate. Estate. You can invest in all kinds of businesses, even in yourself. You can actually even invest in basically all kinds of other online activities where there's some form of rate of return. There's just so many out there. So what God is saying is, is that you don't necessarily have to open up 7 or 8 businesses, although admittedly most millionaires and billionaires, that's exactly what they do, is they operate in 7 to 8 businesses and they continue to grow even if they're passively investors in 6 of them. This also then applies very, very importantly to your giving, because this is key. Because giving through generosity unlocks the blessings in Malachi 3:10, in addition to what God talks about for your tithes. Because what he does is that he knows that every time you're going to give, it's come— going to come back to you pressed down, shaken together, and running over. Because the, the blessed and those who are generous devise generous ways to be generous. That's key. And so whatever you sow, you know it's going to come back 30, 60, or 100 times. That's Matthew 13:23. So what you have to understand is, is that you can take this scripture and unpack it in 3 different realms where you can invest, diversify. Even in whole life insurance is an excellent option for those who can afford it. But these other ones I talked about, you can start with something as simple as acorns and start to invest pennies and be able to grow. So even if you're totally broke, you have the capability, even within the money that you have, even if you're making Making minimum wage to be able to start to diversify and start to build and then work your way over to the place where you ultimately have 7 or 8 businesses that are operating as a part of the work that you're doing. And then on top of that, then diversify in your giving 7 or 8, and you can do these simultaneously. That's the key. This is the first step that I want to articulate to you because this is something you have to walk out. You have to be able to plan what you're doing. You have to be able to budget. You have to be able to maintain Your spending so that you always have an opportunity to put money aside to then use for something else. Even in the situation you're in, you may be in a situation where you're not paying attention to what you're spending, how you're spending, how much you're spending. Maybe your income is already really good, but you're then overspending or doing things. Maybe you run up your credit card. These are key things that God wants you to get a hold of and plan forward. Because what you're doing is, is that when you cast your bread upon many waters, you're going to find it after many days. That's a key statement. That's verse 1. But what it means is, is that these things take time in this world, this microwave age where people want satisfaction and instant gratification, especially in the sense of— look at the venture capitalists and private equity firms and people that want to see 20, 30, 40% return year over year. What they're doing is, is they're pressuring a system into failure, and that's not how God works. In fact, when you start to set things that are goals in sense of goals because it's a, it's an objective within a time frame, you're actually setting yourself up even in the kingdom of God for failure because it's all on God's timing. He's the one who sets the vision, but he also sets the time. And he may not tell you the timing, but he always tells you the vision. So it's important to recognize as you're investing your income to be financially free, to move into the places where God wants you to move, you have to have patience. You have to be studious. You have to understand where Yeah. You're putting it, when to pull it out, because you're not going to invest in the same place forever. Even Warren Buffett doesn't do that. He will go to a place where he's like, I've made enough money, I'm going to exit and I'm going to move on and move into another area. That's key. But what you have to recognize is, is that this is all in preparation for disaster. This is the key for the wealthy to become even more wealthy and the poor to become more poor, because disaster always strikes on this earth in some form, whether it's an earthquake, a hurricane, tornado, Maybe a recession, maybe some situation where someone passes away and now they're stuck. Their family is stuck with that debt. The key part is, is in order to be successful, this is a generational principle. It's a lifetime thing. You have to build up something that you have to recognize is that this is something that I'm going to establish today, but it's going to work year over year over year, over the decades, ultimately into my children and into my grandchildren. But when you do that, you're setting yourself up to be able to take advantage of those situations That ultimately could really destroy a person, but come in and either rescue them or take the workload and that debt off of them and basically erase the problem that they have. That's the key part. Imagine a situation where you're able to be able to help someone like a pastor purchase a new home, or you have someone that has maybe, you know, maybe a whole town gets flooded out and you can come in and help them fix those problems or purchase those buildings and refurbish them and put them in a place where you can then subsequently rent them out. You can be the person that God blesses his towns and communities and cities through, through the fact that you are able to invest in yourself, invest in these areas, and then move forward when disaster strikes. Especially when you're diversified like this, it allows you to be successful even when 1 or 2 or even 3 areas fall because you have all these other areas of investment already working for you. That's the key thing. People look at Ecclesiastes 11 and think this is a singular approach. This is a threefold approach because it's both— you're looking at things from an investment perspective, you're looking at things from a passive income perspective. But the key thing is, and we talked about this in this last video, that money is not a tool, it's a seed. That's the lie that people have been talking about. When you place it in the ground and you're generous, this third realm of giving, this third realm of income, God's going to return it to you. Pressed down, shaken together, and running over. So you have 3 major vehicles broken out into 7 areas. So a total of 21 things that are going to be working in your favor. And it's impossible for 21 things to fail on this earth. At most, at any given time, you're going to see 2 to 3. Even when, even when countries fell, there were investments and opportunities post that country being returned back to its former state, even if it was changed over, that you were able to move forward. So there is no disaster that you can't overcome with these principles because God knew about them in advance, and that's key. But I want to read again these next couple verses to really set the stage of why this is so important to operate in all 3 realms. Because as it said, if the clouds are full of rain, they empty themselves on the earth. And if the tree falls to the south or to the north, in that place where the tree falls there will be. This is really key because you're like, well, why is God talking about these 2 concepts? But what it means is, is that you can tell the time of when something is about to happen if you prepared yourself properly through this process as you become experts in the area. And that's key. You don't have to have Jeopardy-level knowledge where it's broad and deep. What you have to have is mastery in a single area, and then you can expand from That's where the highly successful people are. And what you do is you can start to understand is that, hey, when I see that cloud getting stuffed, I know it's going to rain. That gives you the knowledge that something is going to happen in the market that you're working in, whether it's your job or your business or even in your ministry or your nonprofit, that you can start to plan ahead because you know when that happens, you know what's going to happen. That's where it's going to be. And so the thing is, is that you can't be afraid because verse 4 says, he who observes the wind will not sow. If you regard the clouds, you will not reap. So what it's saying is, is that if you see these things but you still hold back your giving, you hold back your generosity, you will not reap the rewards God has for you. You can't keep looking for the perfect time to invest. You can't look at the perfect time to put money in the stock market or put money in cryptocurrency or to buy that piece of real estate that just became available or to purchase that business or to even start that business. You just have to be Spirit-led And move forward in victory, because ultimately you're not going to know the way. Because this is what it says in verse five: You don't know the way the spirit comes to the bones of a womb, of a womb, of a woman with child. So you do not know the work of God who makes everything. It's so key because you what you have to do is there's faith-filled actions to be able to move forward. Because in verse six it says, "In the morning sow your seed, and in the evening withhold not your hand, for you know not which will prosper this or that, or whether both." or the like will be good. So it's key to recognize is, is that as you diversify yourself, what you'll see is, is there will be things that won't work out. That's kind of what the scripture is saying. But that's also saying is there are things that will work out. And you have to recognize is the areas that will work out, you can continue to invest and diversify your income as you continue to move forward in these spaces. So if stocks are doing well for a period of invest in stocks. When you start to see stocks change, go ahead and sell them, move into bonds. These are the things God's talking about because you don't have to overdo anything. And you can purchase stock for as low as $10. You can open up an E-Trade account or a stock purchase account and start buying things. Cryptocurrency can be purchased for pennies on the dollar. There's no barrier that's preventing you from moving forward in victory. And recognize that— don't follow those trends. Don't look at when the market crashes or when things shift. You have to be aware. Maybe you set, you know, sale prices because you don't want to lose your money, but that's not being overly dependent on how the ups and downs of becoming this proverbial day trader to move forward. God's not asking you to do that. God's asking you to trust him with your finances in the things that you're doing, diversify and grow so that you can move forward and be victorious. That's the key thing. This is a key principle that the rich and the ultra-rich and the mega-rich recognize the bigger the risk, the bigger the payoff. They don't look at that risk as an opportunity to lose money. They look at that opportunity as an opportunity to generate generational-level wealth. And they know that if they don't quit as they try to achieve it, they will be successful ultimately. That's what separates the rich from the poor. That's what separates those who are financially prospering and continue to be successful season in and season out, is that they recognize that if they just don't quit and they continue to pivot until they find something that works, and then they continue to double down in that area, grow that area, and expand properly in adjacent areas, they will always be successful no matter what. And that's the essence of casting your bread upon 7 or 8 waters. That's the essence of being able to be diversified and trusting God with your finances, being generous to 7 or 8 ministries and continuing beyond your tithe to supporting these areas so you can be highly successful in all that you do. I really hope that this message blesses you. Again, if you're interested in content like this, please subscribe and share this video with a friend. We're going to continue talking about kingdom finance and business and really help you dominate life through Jesus Christ in ways that you would not thought possible by just applying the biblical principles that all the people in the Bible used. Abraham, you look at Moses, you look at, you look at his sons, and you look at even Solomon and King David. These were people that had wealth upon wealth, billion-dollar wealth in equivalent to today's dollars. And we're going to teach you how to do the same so that you can walk out life in total victory, to break off the spirit of poverty from your life and allow you to do the things you want to do, to bless the family that you have, to send your kids to the best schools, to have the best teachers, to have the best coaches for if they're athletes. And allow them to have the best opportunity for life so that they can serve the kingdom of God focused on the principles and the things ahead. God bless.
