Three speakers debate whether fathers are the most important person in anyone's life. Speaker B says yes; Speaker C pushes back, asking why mothers aren't valued equally. Speaker A argues God designed a special role for fathers, citing Malachi's call for fathers' hearts to return to their children.
This is a hard truth not a lot of people want to talk about.
The most important person in every person's life is their dad.
Well, I'd immediately shoot back. I'm like, well, I love my dad.
Yep.
My wife is the most important person in my life.
Yeah, I would say she's the most important person in your life now.
Okay.
But the person that gave you your emotional framework and your worldview reference point was your dad.
Why is it— Good or bad. Why is it not the mom? What about absentee kind of dads and they're not around much? And then it's really, I was raised more by my mom. What I would tell them is,
You were shaped more by the empty chair at the end of the table where your dad was supposed to be than you even know.
I'm not saying that moms don't matter, but what I am saying is God created order in the household for a reason. And dads, you've got a very special role. My prayer is, says that in Malachi, the hearts of the fathers would be turned back to their children. If we can get this right in this culture in general, I think we'd see a lot of healing.
