Was Jesus Broke?

John Humenik explores whether Jesus was broke and argues that biblical wealth comes from balancing faith with work, not from pure spiritualism or pure hustle. He teaches that money is a seed to plant through stewardship and obedience, with tithing, budgeting, and character refinement as foundations for generational prosperity.

We're going to tackle the one concept that keeps coming up over and over again on my channel: was Jesus broke? I know this has been a topic of many videos that we've created recently, and it's been a topic of much discussion along the community, both here on YouTube as well as on Instagram and elsewhere. So we're going to go ahead and cover some of the scriptures that talk about the essence of what Jesus did, how he walked out life in victorious nature, and talk about how you can Do the very same thing as God calls you to both build not only wealth here on earth and in heaven, but also to create his kingdom and allow it to move forward in victory and in power. Let's go ahead and unlock it. If you're new to this channel, my name is John Humenik. Welcome here. I'm so excited. If you are no friend or someone who's been struggling with finances, we are gonna be talking about tons of core topics around finance and the very things that power the kingdom of God and allow God to confirm his covenant as you walk out the victory here So I want to talk about a couple of things to first level set a couple areas, because the Christians and a lot of folks have been stuck between 2 worlds, primarily those that have the original religious focus and ones of the spiritual nature. And there really are 2 opposite ends. And so if you know someone who ends up being in this space, you're going to want to share this video with them. So it'll allow them to unlock the greater mysteries that God has for you, because the reality is, it's a balance between both what kingdom of God wants you to operate and how you can receive it and walk it out. It's very, very clear. So the 2 natures that I'm seeing very recently along in the community and also in a lot of the folks that I'm working with is this nature of spiritualism. And I wanna go ahead and cover that a little bit here. Spiritualism is this nature of where you can continue to pray, you can continue to donate, you can continue to act as if God's blessing you through finances and through abundance, but it is all done through faith. And ultimately your pocketbook. And what you see here is a lot of people waiting on God. And this is the thing that you'll see over and over again with spiritual people, is what they do is they try to bring their tithe to the storehouse, and then they cry out Malachi 3:10, and then they go ahead and then donate to the poor, and then they cry out the blessings that come from almsgiving. And they continue to do this over and over again where they think that their giving moves God forward. Now let's assume that they're doing it with the right intention, but they're not seeing anything manifest in their world in the sense of what's supposed to transpire. Because what you recognize, what Jesus teaches, is that this world operates very similar to the Garden of Eden. If you want to understand how God works, he operates with core covenantal promises, and that started in the Garden of Eden. And everything he does is driving us back to the garden, to that place of presence where we can sit and be with Jesus full-time. That's what he wants. But what you see with the spiritualism side of is, is that it becomes this one-sided toss it over the fence. I did my one act, I did my faith with, you know, I did my faith with actions, and now I'm going to toss it over the fence and let God deal with it. That's really a truly short-sighted view of how God operates. Deuteronomy 8:18, Matthew 6:33, and so many of the other scriptures that too apply, even the stuff that talks about Proverbs and inheritance, really does, you know, really show the depth of where people are missing out. On the flip side of this, what you're seeing is people focus on religion, focus on activity. You'll see people talk about you can outwork the competition, that you can do this side hustle, you can have income-producing assets that just generate income over and over again. And you can spin those things up in weeks and make money and continue to just generate. And the more energy you push, the more content you create, and the more things that you accomplish, it will allow you to expedite your finances in a big way. And in many ways, what happens is, is that some of those people, find success. And then what they realize is, is then they start to talk about it and they miss the underlying aspect of why that success occurred. And so what happens is, is these religious folks are just these work-based, you know, mentality. So where you have the spiritualism, which is like, I did my one action, or I'm just walking out in faith, I, I'm a tither and therefore God's going to bless me. You've got this one end of the spectrum where there's just lack of work, and then you've got this other end of the spectrum where it's just excessive work. And you're going to say, well, is it something in between? Well, the thing about God is, is it's actually a little different than that. And let me go ahead and unpack the truth about how God operates through wealth, through generational wealth, and through kingdom building. Because you have to understand is that there's a lot of layers to this and not one size fits all. But I can describe it to you the way Jesus described it to his, his disciples and his apostles, is that money is a seed. This is a concept that people truly miss because everyone talks about money as a tool. It's something that you use to generate more money. Well, if money was a tool, then you could create more of those tools in order to be able to make more money. But we can't directly do that. This is a system that God put in place where he is the source, you are the resource, and the— and what happens is it's through your creativity that you actually solve the problems. You see, what happens is when people are successful by working very hard, ultimately the reason of their success is they've solved a problem that's a major pain point for people. And therefore they find great success. And that's the thing is, is a lot of times what you'll see is, is those people will constantly become problem solvers, and sometimes they do it by brute force, and sometimes they don't. What you're starting to see is, is the way God wants wealth to be distributed here on the earth. It's a combination of obedience and timing, which is very, very key, and you get that from his presence. It's also tied to servicing those people that he's called you to service. So when you start to couple those things together, What happens is now you can move from a posture of lack into a posture of provision. And this is very important to understand because this is the balance that most people make because there's oh it's something in between. No, it's actually not. What it does is it starts with God's presence. It starts by hearing God's voice and allowing Him to minister to you and allow you to move forward. But you have to understand this one core concept about wealth. God doesn't see wealth just in basically your bank account. He sees it in the context of your character, in the context of your heart. Are you obedient to him? Are you humble to him? Are you honoring him? Are you giving him his just due? Because if you're not, what happens is, is that you're just doing the things that you want to do, and they quickly become an idol. This is the thing that God wants you to understand: is he does not want your success to cost your relationship with him. In fact, he will be more than happy to just. Wreck your entire life, bring you back to a place where he can minister to you to build you back up if he knows that will be the successful way to bring you out of the season you're in. And I know that might sound hard for some people, especially those who might be having pending foreclosures, dealing with bankruptcies, maybe debt that's out of control. But what God is showing you is that he already knew you were going to have those problems before you even walked into them. He already has a plan to be able to pull you out. He has a highway in forest. He has a river in the desert. But what you have to understand very clearly, it starts with presence. Your purpose is driven by his presence. He's going to reveal to you in this moment how to move forward. This has been a challenging thing for Christians, especially those in the United States and very well-developed countries, because success has been birthed into the nation. It's been birthed into the generations where people no longer have to survive by hunting. They no longer have to survive By going for fresh water, they have roofs over their heads. They have cars that they can go places. There's this whole generation of folks that have never experienced true poverty and have been pushed into a place ultimately of complacency and contentment, which then led to comfort. And what happens now is is that they stay in that cycle of comfort, and then they die there. So what I want to talk about today is how do you break out of this cycle? How do you get into this position where you? taken idols and you've put them on different altars of your life. And now you're stuck in this recurring, repetitive life that does not seem to ever move forward. It hits thresholds. You've seen people talk about glass ceilings, and it becomes something that's not ultimately what God wanted for you in your life. Now, what we can do is take a step back and understand God's vision on your life. If you've done that already, great. If not, that's where you've got to start. You've got to go into God's presence and understand God's vision on your life. The most important aspect of this is to recognize that God's vision is generally so big that you can't accomplish it yourself. If you've traded your job for a business and you're doing it by yourself, you just traded a job for another job. And in fact, what you've done is you traded for a worse job because now you have to deal with all the other things that a business already takes care of, including HR benefits and more. You know, you're having to chase customers for money and you now have to pay bills, whereas when a company is established, they have a whole slew Of people that's doing that, you have to recognize that God's vision starts with something that's birthed from within Him, and then it starts, then it continues into you. But you know that it is from Him whenever it's of scale. It's not something where you continually chase and have to work towards thing after thing after thing, but rather what you're doing is is you're meeting God at the place of provision. This is where a lot of Christians start to misunderstand the essence of. Provision and what it means in your life, because it's clear provision in different seasons mean different things. And this is the thing that you get into the religious side where they want to work for things. You get into the spiritual side where they just think things are going to come for them. And then you get even to the side where you get a lot of other folks that continue to say that Christians should be poor, that pastors should be underpaid, that they should donate their money to the poor. They shouldn't stockpile anything. They shouldn't fly private jets and all these other things. What you have to understand Is that a diligent Christian who is obedient to God over an extended period of time will become one of the wealthiest people on the earth. In fact, they will become so wealthy that they will be able to be generous more than even governments are even today. But what you see is is that people don't understand the seasonal change that as God's continuing to develop their character, so what happens is they plateau when things go well, and you'll see them. They'll start to have nice cars, nice houses, kids. Yeah. Maybe their kids are going to great colleges, maybe they're able to take tons of vacations, and then they get stuck. Maybe some people get stuck before that, but what you're seeing is, is that when you start to understand that you've reached the peak of what you can accomplish, God's like, no, I'm going to rebuild you from scratch and allow you to move forward. You'll see a lot of people lose their jobs for an extended period of time. You'll see God work on their character relentlessly. He'll focus on minds, the strongholds that are in their minds, the emotions that are in their hearts, and continue to focus on their will. What God is trying to do is not establish a person until they can handle the work in front of them. The biggest mistake God can make is give you something that you can't handle, which then drives him further away from you. God is always going to continue to work on these elements with inside you so that you can move forward in victory. And there's a ton of things that applies. It's not even just finances, it's management of your finances. It's being able to understand how to pay bills, when to pay bills. What we forget What we get in society today is, is with all of these subscription services, all these things that are being built, what happens is there's just a ton of money coming in and out of our accounts. Our money gets direct deposited into our bank accounts. It gets auto-debited when we, when we, when you need it, when it comes due. And then you have your spouses, your children pulling money in and out. And what happens is, is there's no fiscal responsibility. It's this, this onslaught of change and churn. And what happens is, is without seeing and understanding it, it can just get out of control. Super fast. This is the essence of what society has built today, is this microwave society where everything's done automatically and there's no structure and there's no diligence. When you start to see where God wants you to operate from, you can start to see that, hey, you know what, you're going to control when you pay your bills regardless of when the vendors say they're going to collect. You're going to set aside those times, whether it's at the beginning of the month, at the middle of the month, wherever you choose. You're going to be one to start to dictate when things get paid. You're going to also see that you're not going to be frivolously purchasing and having all these different services and going out and spending money excessively, because you need to set some standards. Like, tithing is going to be first, saving is going to be number second, and then you're going to have your, your core bills, and then you're going to set aside additional things for things that you want. Because this is the aspect where a lot of Christians struggle to get this, is that God is always the God of more than enough, except when he's trying to move you into a place of success and you aren't ready for it. So what he's going to do, he's going to continue to strip He's going to continue to cut you. He's going to remove people out of your lives. He's going to shift the dynamic. He'll get you fired from your job because what he wants you to do—he needs to prepare you for the next season, which is always greater than the last. And what he has to do is he has to rebuild you back on the rock that's Christ. If you are following God's will and God's obedience, that doesn't mean you're not going to have that happen because the when he puts you into a storm, that storm is not designed to destroy you; it's designed to refine you. It's no different. Than being thrown into the refiner's fire. You know, when you throw gold into fire, what happens is the dross, the impurities, rise up and can be scooped out. And now you can purify it by the work of that metallurgist, that master craftsman that's trying to create this perfect, you know, piece of jewelry or whatnot. That's what God's doing, is he's crafting you. So when you're in this situation where you're struggling and you're in pain and things aren't working out and you're trying to just make sense of something, what you have to do is get back into the presence of God. You have to get back into that place where you're now obedient, because what happens is people want systems and they love quick, quick verses. They want a devotional, they want a quick help book, they want something, a 10-stepper that allows them to be able to apply in their life and then move forward. But that's not how God works. In fact, there is so much diversity in the entire world, both timing, education, understanding current economic conditions, the governments that's involved, the local people involved. Maybe there's a season of drought, maybe there's there's a season of rain. What you have to understand is that your situation is unique to you, and God knows that. In order to move forward, you have to be able to have clarity on the next step. Because what happens is, if you don't, what happens is you'll just walk around a tree, or you'll walk around a forest. You'll end up always getting back to where you began, or some place on that path, because you're leading yourself. God's always going to move you to the greater place. But you know, those moments of transition, those seasons When things are shifting, when everything seems to be falling apart, because God is reforming you to be able to sustain you through that time. But he has to know that you're going to trust him and that you're going to count on him and not the giftings that you have. This is the thing that really Christians start to miss, because when you can get through that season and God has established you, you trust in the word. You don't necessarily love your life the way you used to. You understand that you're going to pick up Christ's cross every single day and walk it forward. You're going to And you're going to start to see transformation happen inside you and then transformation around you, because God is working things out from a perspective that the future person can handle. This is the thing where a lot of Christians miss. You as a Christian need to walk out victory, but you have to understand is the version of you today isn't good enough to walk out that future season. And I know that might be a hard thing to understand, but this is the season a lot of Christians are in. As I'm talking to a lot of people and I minister and I mentor and I oversee a I can assure you that where they're going, that, that current version of them isn't cutting it. I can, I can go through and create a list of all the things that I know God wants to change, but he wants to partner with them to walk it out. It isn't about just being just hyper-obedient and being able to walk it out. It's to recognize that Jesus is holding your hand, that he's there, that he's your guide, that he's your counselor, that he loves you. You, that he cares for you, that he wants the best for you because he wants him to come out of you in every situation. When that stuff starts to come into place, what happens is, is elevation's going to occur. When pressure comes, the Christ comes out. That when pressure comes in all the situations, instead of anger or resentment or maybe even a puff-hearted, prideful, hubris-based mindset, God's gonna come out instead because that's what he wants. He wants him to be shown on this world because the thing about it is, and this is very important to recognize, is he already knows what's best for everyone. He already knows what's best for you. He already knows what's best for everyone else. So there's nothing in our natural mind as we're walking out this victory that will relate that gain and that success to the other people other than Jesus himself. And when you understand that, you realize that the perfection that God wants to work through you is the essence of your surrender. It's the essence your obedience. It's the essence of humility. So when you start to understand Deuteronomy 8:18, it talks about that he gives people the power to make wealth in order to confirm his covenant. He proves himself by your success. You look at Matthew 6:33, it ties directly to the Great Commission, which is pursue my kingdom and its righteousness and everything's added. It's no different than when you join the military or you go work in a monarchy. What happens is, is in those situations, your housing is taken care care of, your food's taken care of, everything about your house, your— all the different things that you would want and want to accomplish, your wear, your food, all of that, your utilities, all addressed. Because what happens is you're taught a new language and you're trained and equipped to go out and serve the military or the monarchy or the structure that you've decided to serve under. The kingdom of God is no different. He has to see you talk like him. He has to see you walk like him. He has See you act and react like him, because all of those future situations in which he continues to level you up will be more and more tedious and difficult for the present version of you. But an incrementally improved version of you can continue to handle it. Think about the situations that you took on when you first went to college. Imagine that compared to when you were over in kindergarten. You couldn't have handled all the stresses and all the anxieties and things that you had to deal with at college when you were 5 or 6 years old. You have to mature. Through grade school, middle school, and high school to get to that point. It's no different in the kingdom of God. Your walk is predetermined by God, but you have to take your free will and align it with his. And that's the challenge where a lot of people won't give that up. They won't succumb to the king who knows what's best for you, who understands the gifting, the desires that he put in your heart that you can then walk out in order to achieve those things. It's no different that Paul talks about that. How can the clay look at the potter daughter and say, why did you make me like this? It doesn't make any sense because you've got a divine, supreme, sovereign being who has architected this entire universe, architected you to be in this place in this moment and thrive in all the things that are happening. This is the thing. When you hear a lot of people, you hear a lot of people talk about, I wish I was born back in the '50s. It was so much easier. Life is so much more complicated. You know, this generation that's growing up continues to struggle and doesn't understand. They don't understand discipline and just, you know, fruitless activities. You hear that over and over again because the mindsets of people who are struggling don't understand is, is they were created for times such as this. And because they were, the giftings that they have are uniquely designed to solve the problems that God puts in front of you. But you have to be obedient to walk into those places, solve those problems, and deliver the outcomes that people want to see so that you can become successful. This isn't about serving yourself. This is about serving others, and it's done through the kingdom of God. Over a long haul, what you'll start to see very clearly is success upon success. This is where you start to see is is that people are like, oh yeah, they were an overnight sensation twenty years in the making. When you start to see people that are becoming multi-millionaires and multi-billionaires, what you'll see is is that there's the diligence done over an extended period of time, and through that fruitfulness. Which does include generosity and potentially excessive generosity. There's so much still left over that you can't spend it all. This is the thing is when you start to see some of the folks in the ultra-rich is they will actually create foundations and they'll donate all their money to get the tax write-off because they're not, they're not dumb people. They put this in foundations and then guess what happens is then people go in and continue to give it away on top of that. And then they realize is that they can't give it away fast enough because they're making it too fast. And So what they do is they purchase things like yachts and boats and private jets and all these other things. Some will do it along the way. Some will do it at the end of the journey. Some will even do at the beginning of their journey and leverage it and turn it into a business opportunity. I mean, actually purchasing a private jet early on in your journey and actually leasing it out will make you a lot of money. What you people see is is that they see the end fruit, and then they judge the actions. They judge the heart. But what you have to understand is from a Christian perspective, when you start to understand that wealth is not just finances, it's the wealth of your well-being. It's having clear mindsets, having great relationships, having a fantastic physical life where you can actually move and accomplish great things and enjoy hiking or golf or any kind of other sport. You have to understand this: God sees wealth in multifold, but he sees it first from the presence in the private place, in the quiet place, in your prayer room. That's what he sees it— that's where he sees it first. From there, God's Wealth is abundant. It's abundant with the air you breathe. It's abundant with the food that you eat. It's abundant with the things that you can accomplish. It's not limited to money, but it is centered around at least one pillar is centered around that because you know as well as I do with economies there has to be some forward motion and money allows that to occur. So I want to encourage you today that if you're stuck in this situation where you're really really hurting and you're trying to get a better grasp of all the things that you want to do and you want to be able to accomplish something amazing in this earth for for the kingdom of God. You've got to start and get back to the basics. You got to get back into the presence of God and understand season after season where God's going, taking you. Because over time, each season is going to develop some form of skill and rigor that then applies to the next season. When you start to stack this year after year, decade after decade, success becomes excessive. There's no way around it. It's impossible to take someone who has stewarded a gift of God for 20 years and say, wow, this person's broke. It just doesn't work that way. It's impossible because finances will flow to that individual because they're stewarding things very well. And that's just the beginning of it. Relationships, new doors will come to them, favor will come to them, people will seek them out. There's so many things that come with success that you have to understand is, again, Jesus is the And since he's the source and he wants you to be successful, he will continue to guide you in these seasons, and he'll fix your ability to budget. He'll fix your ability to spend. He'll fix your character, and he'll know that these are things that need to be addressed. He'll work on your leadership capabilities. He'll work on your ability to delegate. He's going to work on all the things you need in order to go to the next season, as well as set you up for future ones. And again, diligence over time—it's impossible to be able to be in a place of lack unless you've donated all the money away. And you know, if you're in God's presence, He's going to be telling you those things in advance. And I can assure you, for the most part, very rarely in all of history does that actually happen. So when people are donating money in excess, they're either doing it for themselves or they think they've heard God correctly. And in most cases, they haven't because God. God is designing systems around the wealth that he's going to create through them in order to go to the next level. Because— and here's the thing, and here's why I know this is true— is because most Christians don't do this. And so if you have a small set of Christians who become exceptionally successful, then they're going out and creating these great structures, these great companies, and then donating all the way, and then restarting something that may have taken 20 years. It doesn't make sense. It doesn't make sense in the kingdom of God. It doesn't make sense in all those things. It does make sense when he wants you to business and then use it for something else. But what you'll see is, is that there's always some level of increment for you to move forward so that whatever you did before sets the stage for something greater. And very rarely is there a big valley or a chasm in between. It's just not something that you see and it doesn't make sense. Now, if everyone had been doing amazing things and continue to be successful, well then at that point it wouldn't surprise me at all because money would be basically fluid and moving through the system. And when you see that at scale, that's when things are really, really working. But today, successful Christians aren't going to be called to sell everything unless they, they've made it an idol. And so what I want to encourage you today is to come back into God's presence, come back into his heart, and see and do an inventory. Where are you falling short? Where are you looking at the things that you should be looking at that are basically dry wells, the areas and spots that God's like saying, look, I've moved on, I'm over here, I'm not over there. And look at it from his perspective. Start to take an inventory of the relationships that are in your life. Take an inventory of your knowledge and the things that you're making mistakes or the problems that continue to cycle. Is it a lack of understanding? Is it a lack of knowledge? Do you need someone to help you with something? I can assure you, when you start to Understand all these things and start to take a bigger picture of all the things God's doing. Overlay His Word on top of it. You will start to see the things that need to shift. You'll see the things that need to be cut. You'll see the things that need to be focused on in a greater portion. And when you start to do that at scale, God's going to bless you in amazing ways. And I can assure you, next time you watch another video, your life will be changed because you applied the principles of diligence that are throughout all of Scripture. Because when you're building a garden, remember, we're trying to get you back into the garden. Garden of Eden. When you're building a garden, it takes time. You cannot just plant an entire field all at once. And if you can do it pretty quickly, you've got to water it, fertilize it, weed it, and take care of it. There's work involved before the harvest. So there is time whenever you're doing something before you'll start to see something shift. And when you do, trust me when I say this: God's going to bless you in really big ways, and you'll be ready to handle it. I hope you enjoyed this video. Please subscribe and share it with a friend. God bless.
