In this second installment of his prophecy series, John Humenik explains what it means to be a prophet within the biblical fivefold ministry (apostle, prophet, evangelist, pastor/shepherd, teacher). He emphasizes that every Christian can step into these gifts, but the prophetic office is often under‑utilized in churches lacking a vibrant fivefold structure. Humenik outlines the core purposes of prophecy—edification, exhortation, and comfort—as described in 1 Corinthians 14, and describes the progressive levels of prophetic gifting: spirit of prophecy, regular prophet, office of prophet, and prophet to the nations. He stresses that being a prophet begins with being a prophet to oneself, involving hearing God’s word, seeing the future, and speaking it into the present to draw people toward God’s vision. The essence of prophecy is described as spiritually seeing what God sees and speaking it before it manifests, thereby building up and encouraging believers. Humenik concludes with a call to support his ministry via free and paid Patreon memberships to further the mission of preaching the gospel worldwide.

Hi, I'm John Humenik. Welcome back to the channel. I'm so excited you're here today because today is part 2 of our prophecy series. We're gonna be talking about what it means to be a prophet as we continue along this beautiful journey. Let's hop right into it. There's a lot of confusing things that come into understanding when it relates to the fivefold ministry that Jesus Christ gave to the church as a part of the walk. If you're in a church that does not have a vibrant and active fivefold ministry, it's going to be a new concept to talk about the prophet and how that applies, especially when we go into part 3, which will be in a couple days, when this comes— the office of the prophet. But Jesus Christ came and gave us these 5 beautiful gifts. Those gifts are apostle, prophet, evangelist, pastor or shepherd, and teacher. These are the giftings that every single Christian can step into as a part of their walk in Christ. You'll see that a lot of things that you'll see in today's church revolves around the teacher giftings, especially if you're involved in Small group, or pastors, who are generally those who are leading the church. But if you are a part of a vibrant fivefold ministry, you'll know that the office of the prophet and that prophet, which is the second rung below it, is very, very much active in the church. And if you are part of the church that does not have this, that's okay. God can still continue to grow in you all the aspects of the prophetic so that you can become— being a part of the process. But edification, exhortation, and comfort are the Things that the prophet will bring into the church body and into people overall. And you can be a part of this amazing story. So let me hop into it and give you a background of what it means to be a prophet and how you can operate in today's church as you go forward. This is key to recognize that being a prophet starts with being a prophet to yourself. Most people who move up through the levels of the prophecy, uh, starting at the spirit of prophecy, regular prophets, office of prophet, and finally the prophet to the nations, what you start to recognize is, is that you'll start to demonstrate the gifts of prophecy throughout your entire life because people are born prophets. These are things that were given to them, whether they're latent gifts that started when they were young or something that may have been activated later. These are the very things that God has imbued upon you and it becomes a part of your walk. It talks about this very detailed in 1 Corinthians chapter 14, where Paul says you should go and desire all the gifts, but prophecy be the one that you should desire the most. Prophecy is the only gift that's a part of the gifts that the Father gave, Jesus gave, and the Holy Spirit gave to their church. This is extremely important to recognize, that being a prophet starts with being a prophet to yourself. It's understanding and hearing the word of God. The core aspect of prophecy is kaleoing the future into the presence, because what you do by the power of the Holy Spirit, God will give you a vision of what is about to happen so that you can speak it and pull it forward. How does that pertain to edification, exhortation, and comfort, which is the core of what 1 Corinthians 14 talks about? What it means is, is that as a prophet, your job— he or you, he or she— are supposed to look into a person and see their future, to see them as Jesus sees them, to understand who they really are, not by what you see on the surface, but rather what you see underneath. and pull those things into being by your words. That's the essence of a prophet. Now, it may sound confusing for those who are hearing this message for the first time, and maybe you can go ahead, watch some of the other series and information we talk about on this channel, but understand this one key moment, one key statement, this one key aspect that will help you unlock what the gift of a prophet is to the church and to yourself and to your family. It is being able to see as God sees in the supernatural, in the spiritual, understanding what he sees and being able to speak those things as if they are, even though they're not yet to become. And so when you recognize how the prophecy works, how you can pull things forward, how you can look into a person and see the greater, to see the deeper aspects, the understanding, the well that's poured into them by the Holy Spirit, to be able to step forward and upward, that's the essence of a prophet. A prophet prophet is specifically designed to be able to talk into a person, reveal what change needs to happen, and move them forward and up. That's the essence of a prophet. It starts with you first. It doesn't necessarily always have to relate to dreams, visions, and other things, although those are clearly a part of the prophetic gifting. It isn't always just a prophetic evangelism, prophetic giving, or prophetic utterances, or even, even teaching. Rather, it is at the core being able to reach out into the spiritual to see something that is just hidden so that God can show something and reveal something in you and others so that you can pull them forward and upward in an amazing and powerful way. That's the essence of prophecy. That's the essence of what this gift does, and it is meant to edify. It is meant to build up. It is meant to strengthen. It is meant to pull people forward, exhort them into a place of success. Yes. So that they can walk out their life in Christ Jesus in victory. So I hope you like this video series.
