John Jonas (host) argues that Online Filipino Specialists (OFS) cannot build your business for you unless you (the owner) already understand how to build it and can give clear direction and training. He lists three prerequisites for outsourcing to succeed (owner knows the business, trains/onboards the OFS, and defines the OFS’s role) and describes an efficient hiring workflow (job post with a reading-trigger, email screening of top applicants rather than immediate video interviews). He shares audience/reach metrics and an anecdote about hiring a content writer in ~45 minutes from 30 applications.

Welcome to the secret sauce of outsourcing podcast that's dedicated making you better at outsourcing to the Philippines. This is episode 316, get your business off the ground first. So, of the people that listen to this podcast and the people that read my newsletter and that are customers of OnlineJobs ph, which about 100,000 people that get my newsletter, and we've had about half a million employer customers at Onlinejobs ph. Of those, I would say 95% are experienced, experienced business owners. But the other 5%, I will often get emails from people that say, john, I'm just starting my business out. Can I have an OFS build my business for me? And my answer is maybe, like, if you know what you're doing. But in order to have an OFS build your business for you, you have to ensure that you understand your business and you know how to build it yourself, even without an OFS now. Now you can have them do the work as long as you're willing to give them direction. Next, you need to train that person, or at least onboard them, if they're an expert, so that you know that you have control over what's happening, that they have some direction for what they're supposed to be doing and how it's going to go. They're not going to come in and build you an affiliate business. I had someone recently that said, hey, do you have someone that can build me an affiliate marketing business? I was like, no. He said, well, don't you have people that know affiliate marketing? Yeah, there's lots of people, but they're not going to just build you a business. They're going to build a business. They're going to do it for themselves. He was like, well, I want someone who's an expert at affiliate marketing. Well, that's fine, but they're not going to just go build it for you. And then my third thing that I tell these people is, you have to know what your OFS will be doing in your business. Don't expect them to just figure things out like, oh, my God, me, an affiliate marketing business? Well, what do you want me to do? I don't know. Go figure it out. Which is what this person really wanted to do. OFS online Filipino specialists are not magical humans. And you'd be surprised at how many people think they are. They won't just build a business for you without your full attention and direction. But for the 95% of you listening to this who do have a business, do know what you're doing, have revenue coming in. It's amazing what giving a little bit of direction to someone can do to to move things forward in your business. Like if you just know, oh, we're doing this thing, this marketing thing. Let me give this to someone else who knows what they're doing and here's how we do it. Wow, that can go so far towards helping you move the business forward and getting things off of your plate. It's also shocking how just posting a job will start to move your business forward. Posting a job on onlinejobs page gets the ball rolling. And it's so easy to hire someone once you've posted that job, especially if you have a good recruiting process and you understand how that works, which I will detail you exactly how I do it at 1vaoa.com. It's super quick, efficient, easy, and just really quickly I'll tell you. I post a job, I include a trigger in that job post so that I know if they read my instructions. I then respond to people who obeyed the directions and did not send me a form letter and I send them questions via email. I do not schedule a video interview with them. I will send the same exact questions to the best 10 people who replied to my job post and then from there I will ask more individual questions until I feel like people will drop themselves out. I will drop people out. It'll be obvious. So you're not good enough. You're not good enough. Oh, you're really, really great. I really like you. I just did this last week and hired an amazing content writer and it was really, really actually easy. In fact, I probably spent 45 minutes total from posting a job to you're hired in communicating, and I probably got 30 applications. So 30 applications, 45 minutes from post a job to you're hired. Wow, that is such effective time. So if you're a business owner, in my opinion, my experience, posting a job is about the most effective time you can spend towards building your business.
