John Jonas explains how to hire Filipino VAs across time zones. Utah is 13-14 hours ahead of the Philippines, so state your required hours upfront to find candidates already working nights. Be flexible on exact overlap windows rather than forcing 8-4 alignment.

Can a filipino va work on my time zone? Hey, my name is John and I'm going to talk about Filipino virtual assistants and working on your time zone. So I'm in Utah in the United States. The time difference between here and there ranges between 14 and 13 hours, depending on the time of year. If you're in Australia, their time is basically the same as your time. If you're on the east coast, it's like 16. They're like 16 hours ahead. I think that's a significant difference. One of the questions I often get is what about them working on my time zone? So I have a couple thoughts about this. So the first time I hired someone, the agency said, well, do you want him to work on your time or do you want him to work his time? And I was like, oh, well, I mean, if it doesn't really make a difference, I want him to work on my time. And they were like, sure. Great. And so we started working and after a couple weeks, the guy said, hey, sir, this is really hard for me. Like it's hurting my family and I don't sleep well and my work suffers and working the night shift is really, really difficult. And I was like, oh, well, I don't need you to work the night shift. It's totally fine for you to work during your daytime. And he was like, oh, so thank you so, so much. That's such a big deal for me. And that was a really good eye opener to me. So can you get someone to work the night shift for you? Yes, you can. So they can work their night shift, your daytime hours. It's hard though. So here's what I recommend so it can be easy. All you have to do is post in your job post you need them to work the night shift or that you need them to work your hours. And if you do that, you'll attract more people that are already used to working the night shift. And that's a big deal. There's a lot of call centers in the Philippines. A lot of people are already working the night shift hours or they're already working Eastern hours or Pacific hours or whatever it is. Yes, you can definitely get someone. You can find someone who is used to working your hours and who is going to be okay with working your hours, and that's totally fine. So the next thing to consider is if you're flexible, you'll have a lot better experience with this. So for example, if you don't need someone to work 8 to 4 Eastern, what if they were to work 6 to 2 Eastern or maybe 11 to 7 Eastern or something like that. So in the Philippines what you'll find is just like in the US there's people who are more night people and there's people who are early morning people. And the Philippines, often the sun rises earlier there than it does here and so they're often getting up earlier. I find that my workers normally get up at 5am and start work. And so if they're up at 5am for me I'm catching them at like 1, like 1 to 5 already, just their normal daytime hours. So they're going to work like 1 to 9 or something like that. And whereas other people are like, they're up super late, they don't start work until four in the afternoon and then I'm going to catch them at 8am or 9am and so there's already some overlap for a lot of people between my working hours and their working hours. Now this isn't true with every VA, but a lot of my VAs this is, this is the case. So if you're flexible with your work time, instead of saying I need you eight to four, maybe you say, hey, my work time's flexible as long as you're online my working hours four hours a day, then that gives them a lot more flexibility to say, okay, I can sleep later and then work in the afternoon, evening or I can get up an hour earlier and I'm already on your time for four hours. It really makes a big difference. And then you, you widen your hiring pool and you can hire basically anybody say yeah, I just need you online some of my time. Rather than being strict 8 to 4 or whatever that might be. So can a VA work in your time? Yes, they absolutely can. You can find someone who's used to it. You can ask someone, ask anybody to do it and they'll often just do it. It's going to be hard for them. And then if you're flexible you can get them to overlap their time with you often. You don't necessarily need all of their time to be exactly coincidental with your time. So. So my name is John Jonas and I want to help you find a great VA. Find the right person.
