Ep. 351: When your business makes a difference

Welcome to the Secret Sauce of outsourcing podcast that's dedicated to making you better at working with OFS online Filipino specialists. This is episode 351, when your business makes a difference. So I've been on a kick recently with making a difference in the Philippines, and probably partly because we are seeing it in our business. And then I'm just getting a lot of messages from other people talking about how they have changed the lives of the people working with them.

So.

So, for example, every once in a while, we get a request for a certificate of employment. They call it a COE in the Philippines. It's a letter saying that the person that this person works for you, and here's how much they make and here's their role. And it's super simple. It's like a one sentence letter, but it's official, like, signed by you on your letterhead, which we don't really have letterhead, but we make something up. So the reason for that COE usually is something happy. Typically, this person is getting a loan for a car or for a lot or for a house or something. Something that's a really big change in their life. Usually it's the first time this family has ever had something like this. And so when I get this email, this request for the CoE, often it's accompanied by a lot of joy. They tell us how excited they are because this is the first time someone in their family, like their extended family, could ever afford a car or they're buying a house and they're gonna allow their parents to stop renting for the first time in their life, something like that. And none of this was ever possible for them. And they didn't think it was gonna ever be possible for them until they started working for us. And it's not just us that's seeing this. We see this all over the place. And when we get it, I mean, it's humbling and it's often overwhelming. Knowing that our business did this, or you guys express these same feelings to me. Knowing that your business created this life change for someone, El, it's amazing. You're not just giving a paycheck. You're giving them an opportunity to improve their lives, to step out of poverty, to contribute to their community. You're helping them build a future for themselves and for their family that really they never thought was possible. So today I want to show you what Atiba did. What happened to Atiba? So Atiba has a team of ofs working for him, and he has helped families pay rent and buy groceries. He's helped parents send their kids to better schools so those kids have a better future. He's helped families move from cramped and unsafe neighborhoods into better, safer neighborhoods and homes where they have a better life. So now if you're watching this on YouTube, you'll get to see Atiba. Otherwise you're going to hear what he says in this video that he recently sent to me. And now, just so you know, over the next couple episodes, I'm going to show you multiple videos of Atiba because he sent me this really long video that was really, really amazing. And, and when I got it, I sent it to a couple people on my team and they chopped it up into relevant segments and we created different stories from it and this is the first one. Atiba's business is making a difference. So here goes.

Hi, I'm Atiba. The video content Superman with client Attraction Pros. And we've been using online jobs to hire for the last three years. Now, our company, we've been virtual since 2013, so we've been doing it a very long time, but we were virtual strictly in the US and it was really about three years ago that we started looking internationally. And I want to just share a couple things with you today. Actually, three things that I want to share with you today about the advantages specifically of ofs in the Philippines and online jobs in particular. Start here. As an employer, this is an opportunity for you to make a meaningful impact in what I consider the global economy. Right? Yes, sure, you're not changing the GDP of an entire country, but you are of households. So it's a great opportunity for you because, hey, employee costs are super high. This gives you an opportunity to control your employee costs at a much lower rate. But, but at a rate that's still really great for the employees that you're hiring. And you make a major, major impact. We've had ofs who have sent their family members to school who couldn't go to school. Heck, we had one ofs who didn't even have a working fridge and because of the salary we paid her, she was able to buy a fridge. We've had ofss who have moved out of one room homes into actual homes with bedrooms. You're making a major, major impact. So that's number one. Number two. Number two thing here is culture. Number two thing is the culture. And the culture is super, super important because let's face it, if you don't have good company culture, it's only so long your company will actually last. And as the owner of this company Instead, culture. Here's what I found when I found the right ofss, When I found the right people through online jobs, they came in and they latched on to our company culture, and then they protected that company culture. Then when new ofss joined the team, they were the ones who championed our company culture even louder than me. And I'm pretty loud, y', all. And made sure that everybody got in line and stayed in line. And when someone was out of line or someone didn't fit, they made sure to bring it to me and say, hey, look, this person's gotta go. That's major in helping you manage your team and grow your team. And ofss are great at that. And the third thing, and I'm going to quote Dennis Yu here, who is also a huge champion of ofss and online jobs, is this. You're getting to hire the best of the best. You know, in traditional settings, you only hire people who are close to wherever your business is. Working with online jobs, working with ofss, you can go and hire people who are in the top 1% of of their craft to come in and work for you. That changes the output that you can make in your company. That changes what your company can do. So don't just look at this as, oh, I'm just hiring a bunch of virtual assistants, because that's not what it is at all. You're not just hiring a bunch of to do people. You're hiring people who are. When you find the right ones, and that's the key. You go and you can search and find the right ones. You hire people who are in the top 1% of what they do, and they make major, major impact in your company. Now, listen, like I said, it's been three years for me. We're now we have 32 OFSS, over five divisions of our company. You think? I'm invested a little. Yeah. Love it. You know, and I thank John Jonas. He's been on my podcast, and I thanked him. Then I'm going to thank him here again. Thank you for what you've done. Thank you. Thank you for allowing us to affect the lives of 32 individuals in the Philippines. Thank you to all of the other companies that you've also allowed to affect lives of individuals in the Philippines. I'm telling y', all, this will change your business.

So I agree with Atiba. What we're doing isn't much like. It's not. We're not changing the world, but we kind of are. Because you're contributing to the global economy. You're doing good and it's sustainable both for you and for them and it's helping your business to grow which is then bringing more money locally and more money overseas and it's just a really good thing. So yeah, you're not solving world hunger but you kind of are contributing to solving world hunger because people in the Philippines are starving and you're helping to solve that. And in the end isn't that really what matters? Like helping one person at a time? So if you don't have a story like this yet that's okay. Just keep working with your people in the Philippines.
