Episode 428 of the "Secret Sauce of Outsourcing" podcast (hosted by John Jonas) profiles Janina, a Filipino online specialist who works as an administrative assistant for a Hollywood talent management company. The profile is a day-in-the-life: Janina describes her work schedule and tasks (checking urgent emails, searching roles on Breakdown Express, supporting actors from audition through contract), names clients on her roster (Alice Amter, Brad Benedict), and notes she has worked with the employer for over a year (approaching two years). The segment also covers her personal life: she trains regularly in Brazilian jiu jitsu, attends physical therapy twice weekly for mild scoliosis (which has shown improvement), and credits onlinejobs.ph for helping her find the job. The host frames this as an example of Filipinos contributing to Hollywood work beyond small e-commerce roles.

Welcome to the Secret Sauce of Outsourcing podcast that's dedicated to making you better at understanding people in the Philippines. This is episode 428, Hollywood hires ofs two. So we've been doing these, these videos of people in the Philippines and showing their lives and showing their work and showing the culture. I've talked about this before and I got this video back recently about a girl who works for a Hollywood studio. And this one was interesting and different, although I guess maybe not that different. But it was interesting because she talked about the work that she does for this Hollywood studio in. She said she has these specific actors, this group that she works with has specific actors that they find roles for and she has some names that you might recognize on her list of people she's looking for roles for and she goes through like what she does for this Hollywood studio and it's pretty cool to see. Hey, look, this isn't just the local person running an E commerce store that's hiring people out of the Philippines. This is like big budget Hollywood. And even though when we think of Hollywood, we think of big budget and we think of these fantastic productions and these movie stars, there's all kinds of other stuff going on at the same time. And some of that other stuff going on is not huge, but it's still required for the production of these big films. And some of that work is being done in the Philippines. So this video that I just got back is about Janina and she works for this Hollywood studio. But there's the other side of this that is really cool. Janina does jiu jitsu and she goes to her jiu jitsu gym regularly and she works out and she. So she's gonna show us some of that in this video, which is really cool and that's cool to see the culture. So I remember the first time I went to Mexico, which was a couple years ago. My wife's parents were serving as missionaries there and we went to visit them. And the first morning I woke up, I went outside, there were people jogging, there were people going for a jog which. So when I served as a missionary in Brazil, which has been 20 something years now, there was no, there was no exercising. Like people didn't, people didn't go for a run. That wasn't really a thing. At least that wasn't the thing that I saw or remember at all. Right. Exercising is generally a sign of affluence. Where you're doing, you have, you have extra time to spend taking care of your body and not just working and when we were in Mexico, that was one of the first things I noticed was, oh, there's. This isn't just this poor place, which is what I grew up thinking it was, which is really, really terrible. But there's, there's a lot of affluence going on here. And in the Philippines, that's also the case. And I see it all the time where these people have these hobbies. They're riding bikes, they're playing badminton, they're working out at the gym. There's all these things that are going on that are like, wow, that's really similar to me and my life. Obviously, we live different lives and we have different lifestyles, but these are just people and they're working jobs and they're doing a good job in their jobs and they're being honest with their employers and they have problems and they have hobbies and they do fun things. And anyway, so if you're, if you're listening to this as a podcast, I'm going to play this video for you. And if you're watching it on YouTube, hopefully you get to watch this video of Janina because it's interesting to see what she does for work and her hobbies and how she lives her life.
Hi, I'm Janina. I'm an online Filipino specialist. I work as an admin assistant in a talent management company based in Hollywood. So at around 5:30, I wake up, I wash my face, I brush my teeth and then I get water. I turn on my laptop to start working. I work at 6am until 1pm in Hollywood Pacific Time. It will be 3pm soon. I work mid shift, so that's 3pm until 10pm As a talent management company, we help actors get film and TV projects from audition until contract negotiations. The first thing I do is I check if there are urgent emails from actors or the managers or the casting offices. I've been working with them for more than a year now. So in a few months I'll be two years and then I go to this platform called Breakdown Express. So this is where we look for roles. Part of our roster is Alice Amter. She actually played raja's mom or Mrs. Kootrapalli in big Bang Theory. We also have Brad Benedict. He played Sheriff Jackson in the movie A Jasmine's Blues. And then after work, I usually do my home care physical therapy. I just found out recently that I have mild scoliosis, so this is due to bad posture. So right now I am doing my best to correct it, or at least not worsen. It. So I have regular physical therapy twice a week. So it's 4pm and my PT session has just finished. I always feel better after our session. Great news that I had is that my curve here, it already improved after a few sessions. So Yini and then my husband, he comes home around 5pm we bund a little, and then I prepare to go to Jiu Jitsu. So this is the way to the BJJ class. We're here now at the Jiu Jitsu gym. This is Abby, my training partner for the day. She's also my sister. Hey, guys. So we're gonna warm up, we're gonna stretch, then we're gonna do some solo drills. Are you ready? Yeah. So the session is over. It was very fun. We did some takedowns, submissions, and also passing. How does this affect your scoliosis? Actually, in my six months of training, there was no negative effect. Thank you, onlinejobs ph, for helping me find the employer that I have now. I'm so happy because it's in the same industry as my interests. You know that I love movies and I love TV shows. And aside from that, I am empowered economically. I get to travel a lot these days. So thank you so much. I'm so grateful.
