John Jonas explains how to hire virtual assistants from the Philippines who work your time zone. Look for candidates already doing night shifts, like call-center workers, and verify they're comfortable with late hours before hiring. Disrupting someone's sleep schedule defeats the purpose.

So I'm driving to a dentist appointment and before I left I just got this question from someone in an email saying can I get a VA to work on my time zone? You know, so the Philippines is on the other side of the world from the United States or from the UK or Canada. If you're in Australia, this isn't an issue. But for all the rest of us, here's the issue. Can you get someone to work on your time zone? And the answer is yes, you can. So in the Philippines there's a lot of people that are already working in call centers or working the night shift already and they're used to it. There's also a lot of people that really prefer to work from like 8pm to like 4am or something like that because it's cooler during those hours and so sitting in front of a computer is a lot more comfortable to them. Here's something that you should be careful of if you're going to try and get someone to work on your time zone though. During your recruiting process. When you're interviewing someone, ask them if they are comfortable working at night. Because if you take someone who's used to working during the day and you try and get them to work at night, it's very likely to seriously disrupt their schedule and their body and their family and it just creates a big mess. So the first person I ever hired, the agency said to me, do you want this person to work on your time? And I was like, oh well, sure, yeah, let's do it. Couple weeks in I get an email from him. He's doing great. But he says, sir, this is really, really hard. I'm not sleeping. I can't sleep during the day, I'm working at night. My family's a mess. Can I maybe work the work during the day and my time? And I was like, oh yeah, that's a total no brainer. I don't need you working on my time zone. I just thought if it was the same to you, then yeah, sure, and it's not the same to him. So yes, you can absolutely find someone. Find someone who's either currently working in a call center or someone who wants to be up late at night. Just make sure that you do it. You find out during your recruiting process if it's okay with them or not, if they're already used to it or not.
