John Jonas explains why asking friends for VA referrals usually fails: great people are already working. Hire someone yourself first, build trust, then ask them for referrals. Those recommendations stick around longer and are more reliable.

How to get a referral to a great va in the philippines. I get asked all the time, do you know any great whatever from the Philippines? The answer is always no, I don't. Because if I knew them, that means that I recruited them, I vetted them and I hired them to work for me. And if I did that, chances are really high that they still work for me. And it's the same for almost every other successful entrepreneur I know. Almost nobody has a list of great people they want to share with you. As soon as they share, those people aren't available to work for them anymore. And so this is why you recruit and hire full time people on your own rather than trying to have someone else hire them for you or to try and find a referral. However, there is a way to get referrals to great workers. First you have to hire someone on your own. Then after you've established trust with that person and you know they're doing a good job for you, when you're ready to hire someone else, ask your current worker who else they know who you can hire. Often they'll know someone and since they really want to keep their job and they feel like their reputation's on the line, they'll only refer to you, somebody who they really trust. You're likely to get a really great worker this way, so just be aware that it often takes weeks for them to refer someone. Why weeks? I don't know. I just know that I've seen this over and over again. So can you get a referral to someone great? Yes. It has to come from an employee. I'm John Jonas and I created onlinejobs Phoenix.
