Why 100 People Wanted to Hire This One VA

Welcome to the Secret Sauce of Outsourcing podcast that's dedicated to making you better at outsourcing to the Philippines. This is episode 248, a va I know who is available for hire. Okay. So today is kind of going to be special and different for me. I have a full story for you. And this comes from a newsletter that I sent a couple weeks ago about A VA who I know who was available for hire. He's not anymore. So here comes the full story. My oldest son is serving as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He. Yes, it's the Mormons. Yes, we are members of that church and we're very active and we're disciples of Jesus Christ, and we try. So my son got assigned to go to the Philippines. And the crazy part about that is when you decide to go on a mission for the church, you send in your application papers and they then assign you somewhere and tell you where you're going, and you don't really have any say in it. So my son puts in these. These application papers and he gets his assignment to the Philippines, which there are no words for me for that. He has friends in Mexico and Brazil and Germany and Austria and the UK and South Africa and all over the US And Canada. And I mean, like, we. We know people all over the world who are missionaries right now. And my son, of all places, gets assigned to the Philippines, which, I mean, he's been gone for five months now, and even talking about that still makes me emotional. So when he gets, he. It's very well organized. The missions are very well organized for the. Within the church. He gets there, he gets picked up at the airport by some other missionaries. He gets taken to his mission area, which has a mission president who presides over all of a bunch of missionaries there. It's probably like, I don't know, right now it's probably 130 missionaries. During COVID it was probably like, I don't know, 20, but previous to that it was probably 200. So it's growing again right now. And in this little area in the Philippines, the Philippines has like 25 different missions that have a mission president and a set of missionaries. And those missionaries just work in that area. So my son's in this area, and he gets then assigned to a specific area in. In this little area near San Pablo City in the Philippines, and he gets assigned a companion, and he gets put on this little island called Marinduque, which you've never heard of it, and I had never heard of It. And it's actually not that little. So if you were to look at a map and you follow, like, Manila, which is on the really big main island of Luzon, and if you follow Manila south, you would look, you would see a big island just south of the main island called Mindoro. And then if you looked east of Mindoro, there's another big circular island called Marinduque, and you never heard of it because population is not very big. Even though it's kind of a big island, it's also a unique place. So my son gets assigned here. He doesn't speak Tagalog. He only speaks English. And on this island, there's not that many people that speak English, which was different for me, because all I know is that the Philippines speaks English because that's all I deal with. I mean, we have over 2 million profiles of Filipino workers at OnlinejobsPH. Every one of them speaks English. I mean, The Philippines has 100 million people, so that's 2% of the overall population. But, like, most kids now speak English, and we don't have any of them. And the older generation probably doesn't speak as well. But it's all. It's all changing. And especially my son tells me, because of YouTube, all these kids speak English. So he gets assigned to this island, and he's like, two days from the mainland, two days travel from the mainland and from contact with other missionaries and with the mission president. And, like, he's pretty remote, and he's been there now for two or three months in this specific area. And he's gotten to know a lot of people, and he's gotten to know some of these people really, really well. And we talk to him once a week, and he tells us all these stories and. And he. He tries not to talk about onlinejobs Ph because he says everybody knows about it, which I didn't know that. I didn't know that everybody knew. He said everybody knows. And when they find out that my dad owns onlinejobs Ph there, he says it's weird. People do weird things with him. Like, they want to be his friend. They want. It's almost like a worship thing. Like, they start to worship him, which is really. It's a weird thing to say, but I don't really know how else to describe it. So he doesn't talk about it very much. And he hasn't said anything to me about people who need jobs other than he said, you know, like, people are poor and they need jobs and whatever. He's never said anything to me until A couple weeks ago, when he came to me and said, hey, dad, I have someone that needs a job. And I was like, well, you know, that's fine, but I'm not really likely to get this person a job. And then he started telling me about this person and he. I mean, they're a good friend of his and they are married and they have two little kids. And he says, this guy is a super hard worker and he's reliable and he's willing to show up and he speaks English and he doesn't really have many skills. He has some graphic design skills, but he's just not that great. But he really needs a job and he'll show up and he'll work really hard. And I was like, okay, I mean, I could maybe try and find something. I don't really know what I'll do, but I'll see what I can do. And the next day I was like, okay, this is a good chance to send this out to my newsletter, which goes out to 100,000 people. And since my son, who. Let me just tell you a little bit of background on him, he's 20 years old. When he was 11, he started his own business. He was making too much money for an 11 year old or a 12 year old or a 13 or 14 year old. So I always had to find excuses to take money away from him because you can't let someone that young have that much money, right? So his senior year, his goal was to make more money than his teachers, which he did. He's running like a $300,000 a year business. And now he's vetting this person and saying to me, if it were me, I'd hire this guy in a heartbeat. Like, okay, well, then I know a lot of people will want to hire this guy. So I send an email out to my mailing list, a newsletter, 100,000 people get it. The next day I have a hundred people saying, I want to hire him. Which obviously is just one person. And I sent it to someone who I knew was really good. One of the first employers who responded to me. And I knew the guy was, he was a good employer. And so this guy gets a job, this guy in the Philippines on this little island with a good Internet connection and a good computer and a good family. And his option was. And the reason my son finally brought this one to me was because his option was either he leaves next week to go to Manila to work, to find a job in Manila, because there just aren't jobs on this island, or he finds Work online. Those are basically his only options. Because on this island, he can't. He can't really make money. Like he's looked. He's been looking for a long time. And the Philippines is odd in that they'll hire someone on a contract basis, and that contract will last for a month or six months. And when that contract is up, like, you're done. That's it, you're done. So you. You're working at a grocery store, you're stocking shelves, Your contract is for three months, your contract's up, you're done. That's it. See ya. Even if you're great or whatever. I don't understand it. It's weird. I saw it when I was there. I've only been there once in 2010. But my son reiterated this same thing to me recently. He told me, this is how it works. So this guy's gonna leave his family, gonna leave his wife and his two kids to travel multiple days away to find a job. This would be like, you live in Los Angeles, there is not work there. So you' gonna, you're gonna take a bus to Atlanta to get a job, because there's work in Atlanta and there's not work in la. Well, you know, in the US like, that's. That's not really how it works. Like, there's work. There's work in most places in the US and that's not how it is in the Philippines. So I send this email. He gets hired, he gets a job, and he started work. And I get this email back from this guy, this friend of my son's in the Philippines that says, I'm so thankful for you. I have this job and this is amazing. And they started me at $4 an hour and they hope to get me to $5 an hour soon, depending on my work ethic and my skills. And I hope, sir, I will get there. So my point, in this episode, like, this guy's not available. You can't hire him. But there are so many people just like him where they're trustworthy and they're honest and they're hardworking and they're not super skilled or they are super skilled and you can hire them and find them@onlinejobs.ph I know that everybody wants a ve worker, which is why I had a hundred responses of people saying, I want to hire him because I was vetting him. The reality is you can find people and they're trustworthy, you can vet them yourself. It's not that hard. I just did this last week. I followed my process@1vaoa.com. It works super well. I ended up hiring two people because they were both so amazing. I was like, dude, I think we have to work for both of them, not just one. And I hired them both and they've both been so good.
