Why Hiring a Filipino VA Could Never Be Your Biggest Regret

Mike Killen hired Filipino VAs through onlinejobs.ph to handle admin work and bookkeeping. When he took a year off for cancer treatment in 2021, his remote team kept the business running and actually increased profitability. He now advocates hiring early, before courses, and has shifted to a four-day work week with unlimited holidays.

My name is Mike Killen, I'm the founder of Sell youl service. We produce a lot of YouTube content and I used onlinejobs ph because initially I was overwhelmed with admin work and I'm not very good with numbers and I kept missing deadlines and lots of things weren't getting done within the business that needed to get done. And a friend of mine recommended onlinejobs ph2 to me and I'd also heard about them from a few courses and a few coaching programs and things like this. And the process to hire in the past I have hired people and was a bit kind of put off by it, but actually the process with online jobs was unbelievably easy and simple. I basically wrote a job post listing what I wanted and I followed online job sort of recommendations and they're really good training, got lots of blog articles and they've got an amazing website one va away that helps you sort of put that together and followed that through. And initially it was a bit overwhelming with how many applications I actually got for the job, which again was a good sign I suppose. And I loved how I could check that the each applicant's background and scores and everything from their CVs. And I also really liked that everything was handled with inside online Jobs platform as opposed to having to go through my email because as we've already discussed, I wasn't very good at admin, so adding that to the pile wouldn't have helped. And at first I just sort of assigned admin tasks like bookkeeping and accountant content updates and stuff like that, chatting to customers or refund requests. And over time my team have begun handling more and more complex work, everything from banking and finances, video editing, graphics, coding, everything. It's literally been game changing for me and for my life. In 2021 I was diagnosed with cancer. I had to take pretty much an entire year off and my team who I had hired through online jobs basically ran the company and if anything they made more money and we were actually more profitable, which maybe said something about my management style, but since then we have always become more profitable since hiring them. And I also discovered a passion for managing people and helping them and helping them achieve their best, which is something I never thought I'd enjoy because in the past I haven't enjoyed being managed. But I like being a manager. Looking back, like I said, my biggest achievements have been able to take time off from the business to recover from health reasons, chemotherapy, surgeries, all that kind of stuff. And I wouldn't be here today. The business wouldn't be here today without the amazing team that I had put together through online Jobs. I'm now working way way way less but I'm more focused on big picture tasks which is kind of my area skill set. I'm exercising more, I'm really writing more. My entire team has a four day week with unlimited holidays. Nothing makes me happier than seeing my team and customers achieve something that they are proud of and online jobs has been a big part of that. My advice for people looking to sort of do work with online jobs is if I could do it all again I would actually hire someone through online jobs way sooner. I would do it before taking any courses or training. I would get someone on board to help with the business if you're overwhelmed. Onlinejobs PH is the best platform on the planet and they have some incredible candidates on there. Thanks again to online Jobs and I hope this was useful for you guys.
