John Jonas explains why hiring your top technical candidate for a VA role can backfire. A strong skill set doesn't matter if the person has a bad attitude, misses work, or can't communicate. He fired a technically excellent VA because the personality clash created constant conflict.

Maybe you shouldn't hire your first choice of a virtual assistant. So often when people go to hire a virtual assistant, they try and single out like the one that they think they're gonna hire and then they try and contact that person and hire them.
And often it doesn't work out.
And one of the reasons I think it's okay to not hire your first choice is because there's more important things than just technical skills when you're hiring a virtual assistant.
So there's a bunch of things that.
I look for when I hire someone and I'll give you a list. So number one, do our personalities mesh together well? I expect this to be a long term working relationship and I want to know that we can work together well, that when I get an email from them, I'm excited to get an email from them. That it's easy to communicate, that it's not like super difficult all the time.
Number two, I want to know, are you going to show up every day?
Are you going to be dedicated and hard working?
Because those are more important to me.
Than just raw technical skills. I recently let someone go who interview process. I picked up on some of his kind of personality differences, but I kind of ignored it.
And in the end, he showed up.
Every day and he was a good.
Worker, but his personality was so different than me and we just, we were.
Just constantly beating into each other and he was beating with other people, like batting heads with other people.
And it just didn't work out. And his technical skills were the best of everybody, but it didn't work out.
Because I had just hired for technical skills and that's the wrong thing to hire for.
So when you go to hire a.
Virtual assistant, there's more important things than just their technical skills. You need to look at how well do they communicate, how well do your personalities mix, mesh together? Are they going to show up every day? How often do they show up during the interview process? What's their attention to detail like? Are they leaving out things in the interview process? They're going to leave them out when you ask them to do it.
So my name is John Jonas and.
I have a full hiring process available at 1vaoa comm where I will walk you through everything that I do to make sure that I hire a a good VA almost every time.
