Plastic grow tubes protect young grapevines from heat, wind, and animals while shielding them from herbicide spray during weed control. Vines outgrow the tubes by three or four years old, when they can handle both chemicals and harsh weather on their own.
We are now putting the grow tube, this plastic protector. The young vines need this to be protected against the extreme heat, some winds, small animals, and when we use herbicides to do the weed control, the herbicide doesn't affect the vine that is young. When the vines are 3, 4 years old, the herbicide doesn't do anything on them. And same thing with the sun, the wind, for example.
