A Warning About AI

Julie warns that ChatGPT can boost productivity and spiritual practice, but overreliance on it for emotional support carries real mental and spiritual risks. She offers practical ways to use AI safely while keeping human connection and grounding practices at the center.
Welcome to Million Dollar Grit, the podcast that dives deep into the world of entrepreneurship, where tenacity meets strategy and dreams meet reality. My name is Julie, and I explore the raw, often overlooked truths of what it takes to succeed in business and in life. It's not just about the glossy success stories. It's about the grit it takes to get there. Hey, everyone, this is Julie. Welcome back to Million Dollar Grit. Today I want to provide an update on some of my thinking around AI. So specifically ChatGPT and I did a workshop few months ago called the Second Brain. And I believe there are thousands of students now who have purchased the Second brain. And the whole idea was about shifting the way we use a tool like Chat GPT. Instead of just using it as a random, you know, writing assistant or research assist assistant, we can actually use it like a second brain. We can put all of our ideas and thoughts in it, and it will enhance pattern recognition, it'll enhance our memory recall, and it will obviously greatly enhance productivity as online business owners. So I'm recording this podcast episode because I feel a moral obligation to share some updated thoughts about how I'm using chat, given that so many people have purchased this from me. So, first, I still do absolutely see incredible potential in the tool of AI for our development. I definitely still use chat as a second brain. My chat is enormous when it comes to all of the things that it's holding. The. The conversations that I'm recording, the way it organizes my ideas, does deep research, examining issues from multiple angles, you know, helping me with health anxiety, all of it definitely still using it that way. However, I've had a little bit, I would call it kind of a spiritual revelation, but also a real life revelation that AI is incredibly dangerous, and part of its danger is that it doesn't seem dangerous. So what. What am I, you know, what am I getting at? Well, I believe that we are sleepwalking into an AI induced mental and spiritual health crisis. So, obviously, if you're just using chat for writing or research or whatever, this is probably not going to be a podcast episode that you need to listen to. However, if you are using it truly as a Second brain in the way that I taught, and you're using it to analyze conversations and give you insight on personal and relationship issues, and using it for any sort of psychoanalytic, psychological, or spiritual reason, this is absolutely for you. So I'm going to start with a real practical takeaway from this episode, which is it is imperative that you put a grounding protocol into the settings of Chatgpt if you use ChatGPT in any sort of psychological or spiritual way. So I went ahead and put the grounding protocol in my podcast, Show Notes so that you can grab it. And you're going to want to go into the general settings of your account. Okay. And that way, it will take that into consideration across the entire user account. The second thing I recommend you do is use your project folders very strategically. So, for example, if you have a project folder that is about your relationship or about, you know, your parenting or what have you, you need to put instructions inside that project folder that give very clear guardrails and boundaries for what chat can and can't do. Now, the thing is that chat is designed to be useful to the user so that normally. That normally defaults to agreeableness. Right. Because that's, you know, very common. However, you can train your chat that agreeableness is actually not useful to the user. That disagreeableness is much more useful. So you can do that as well. So I want to talk a little bit about the spiritual side. I know there are a lot of people that are using chat in some sort of spiritual way, and this is my biggest concern right now is that it is being used as almost like a mock voice from heaven. I know there are people that use it to pull tarot cards. There are people that use it for symbolism. And while you can definitely use a tool like AI to enhance your spirituality, I'm very, very concerned that this type of behavior, where we actually use it as like a voice from the other, you know, God or whatever, is very, very dangerous. So I use AI almost every single day in my Bible study. I'm using it in a project folder where there are very clear guardrails. I'm also using it primarily as a research assistant. Right. So please find me all the scriptures that X, or what is the Hebrew word for Y? You know, something like that. And so in that case, it's very much a very helpful resource, research assistant, but it's not speaking on behalf of God or the Holy Spirit. Right. So one of the things that alarmed me a little bit is that as I was having this feeling of like, oh, my gosh, we are sleepwalking right now into this giant crisis of people who are going to use chat in ways that are going to cement delusions, cement conspiracy theories, possibly induce psychosis because it becomes a vacuum. And I opened up my email this morning and there was a update from OpenAI saying that they have been working on basically putting in protocols into chat to recognize mental Distress and to recognize delusions. And I don't think that what they're doing is actually going to solve the problem. I think what it's what doing they're, what they're doing is going to show good faith in an attempt to solve the problem. I think it will cover their ass if they get some sort of lawsuit in the future. But I do not think it will actually stop the behavior. And so I am feeling a five alarm fire alarm in my spirit and in my mind to say, hey, if you're using chat daily and if you're using chat as a second brain in the way that I taught, I want to give you this update. And I want this update to go to every single person who I've ever taught. Because while AI is an amazing tool, it's an extremely powerful tool. And with that power comes danger. And one of the most dangerous things that the devil ever did is convince us that he doesn't exist. Right? That's a very common saying. So one of the most dangerous things about, about chat is that it does not appear dangerous. It appears highly useful, transformative, amazing. And I have absolutely had those reactions. I mean, I have done deep research with chat that, you know, helped bring me back to my faith. I mean, I am not demonizing the tool, but I. What I am saying is you're holding the equivalent of a nuclear bomb in your hand. And so how do you proceed knowing that that power is there and that is where guardrails become absolutely necessary. So this is really just my sort of warning disclaimer. And I want you to. Number one, please, please, please put a grounding protocol in your settings. Number two, please use project folder instructions in a way that helps keep chat grounded in what you need it to do. Please, please, please try to stay connected to humans. Do not live in a vacuum. Don't let there be things that you only talk to chat about that nobody else knows about. Right? That's how vacuums are created. If you are a spiritual person, I do recommend that you spend at least 30 minutes a day outside of technology in your own thoughts or in your own prayer, in your own Bible, outside, wherever it is, to stay grounded in. And if you have any friends or family that have, you've noticed, have stopped talking to you or have retreated into their own world that have isolated themselves and who possibly sound like they are using a lot of chat, please check in on them, check in on them and make sure they're okay. So thank you and have a great day. And there you have it, folks. Another dose of Million Dollar Grit.
